Just talking a wee amount of something to reduce the depth of that philtrum. Just a little fill, there.  It's nowhere as deep in later photos as it is in earlier ones and video as well.

As far as his smoking, sometimes he said 4 packs and sometimes 2 or 3.  I notice he lets the cigarette just hang between his fingers which is something I used to do.  I'd waste an entire pack doing that and never smoke them even though they were lit!

My entire family smoked as they were tobacco farmers on my mom's side.  Many of them used chewing tobacco.  Nobody had blackened teeth.  Brownish, yea, but not blackened.  Google Bulimia teeth and do an image search.  You'll see it.

As far as the teeth...

:O

He was also a chain smoker and drank a lot. I believe he had stained teeth but I don't think he had any braces. Ad plastic surgery, I don't think it s viable, either. He didn't seem like the type of guy who'd go under the kinfe. He did wear tons of makeup, and you can slightly alter your face with makeup too, with correct shading techniques.

You can't see the braces on his bottom teeth in the first photo?

Smoking doesn't give a person blackened teeth.  Rust or brown, yes, black and/or grey, no.

No I don't see it in those photos or the video. I see bad teeth, but not brackets and wires. I watched the Last Live a hundred times already, too.  Also, don't forget that these videos are all really low quality, with a lot of pixelation... It can be really deceiving. With old photos, also. There were researchrs for example who said that Sergei Yesenin (one of my fave Russian poets) was killed and you can see the indenture on his skull in the photo taken at his bier. It later turned out that the photo was a multi-reproduction of the original and what people saw as a hit-mark on his skull was actually due to the multiple manual reproduction of the photograph. People standing next to his bier saw nothing of the sort on his head.

Or you need to stop seeing things into pixelated old videos, maybe? ;)

Now you are just trying very hard to prove a point that isn't true.  There's no way you can't see those braces on his lower teeth and that's not an old pixelated photo.

Well that's going to have to wait for tonight because I have to get off here.  And you will not convince me that he did NOT wear braces at one point.   ;D

I hope Yoshiki stop talking about hide's eating disorder. I've never heard hide talked about it himself. If I was hide, I would not feel good.

He must not have kept it a secret because there are a group of photos of him (staged) where he is sitting on the floor next to a toilet with the lid up and a lot of toilet paper all around the side where he's sitting.

Just for the record, I never said I could see braces on his TOP TEETH!

It's the bottom teeth that have the braces on them.

One more time...

Agree. Hide mentioned disliking his physique multiple times during his early interviews, but never hinted at an eating disorder. Yoshiki throwing their sympathy puke parties out there like it's a funny fact kind of makes me cringe. But what do I know, maybe bulimia is cool is Japan?

When I first discovered this band, everything was really shocking. I wondered if their behavior was normal in Japan. But after looking into Japanese communities, I noticed that most Japanese think like me. The shocking things to me are shocking to them, the cool things to me are cool to them, and the cringe things to me are cringe to them. The Japanese were not Martians. :D And they don't know either what we don't know - f.e. Why Taiji was fired? Did hide kill himself or was it an accident?, etc.

Bulimia can't not be a cool thing in Japan for sure. (But I think I'm taking your sarcasm/irony seriously)

I sure was being ironic, but looking back, maybe not entirely. Unfortunately eating disorders are still considered 'cool' in certain circles, here in the west. And I'm not even talking of those very sick kids who blog daily about their food restrictions and share what they call "thinspo" (pictures of scarily thin models and celebrities they consider pretty - just do a #proana or #promia search on tumblr, you'll see what I'm talking about). I have a bunch of (fairly sane and normal) female acquaintances who lowkey brag about their methods for maintaining their underweight silhouette. They don't make a big deal out of it, but will occasionaly mention how they stuff their faces with a huge brunch every Sunday, then puke it out. Some people seem to find this cool, considering the ladies in question are total glam dolls. Similarly, hard drugs were considered cool in Germany back in the 1970s-80s. A kid called Christiane F. wrote a book about her heroin habits and they made a film starring a pretty and scarily thin model in her role. Then they added in David Bowie, lots of shots of the kids shooting up to 'Heroes' and lots of Berlinesque eye candy. As a result, European kids started to think heroin was cool and the 'junkie' look became a form of aesthetic.

TL;DR: I can totally see young kids thinking bulimia is a cool/cute thing to have. But I have no idea if that's the case in Japan. (heck, I hope not)

I don't think so. Probably Yoshiki isn't aware of it, or even hide wasn't aware if he was really bulimic. Or even if Yoshiki was really joking about it, maybe there was an inside joke between them. They were close friends afterall. hide himself made jokes about his alcohol addiction.

There was a heroin epidemic in western europe back then, but the movie is actually pretty depressing and repulsing (although it makes the drug scene look kinda fascinating at least in its first half). Thinking it drove it drove teenagers to taking heroin is like thinking that ego shooters or horror movies cause violence. It also wasnvt that big of a success.

Apparently in Japan, eating disorders are highly frowned upon and shameful according to multiple news sites on the net.

Off topic: the film is fascinating, and so is the book. Probably depends on the countries and the cultures, but in the 1990s, it was our go-to forbidden book about everything we were curious about: drugs, sex, prostitution, porn, society beyond our boring and sheltered family lives, you name it. It sure didn't drive me into heroin (though it drive me into David Bowie!), but a lot of the junkie kids were big fans of it.

Because that's an older photo, you can see it in its quality, too. The clothes are different, as well. I think the first one is a recreation using either a 3d model or his wax figure as a base.

Not sure, probably several in the hide museum. I only find photos of the one they promoted outside the museum, and it is incredibly life-like

Seeing the side by side did the trick for me, I'm quite convinced it's an actual picture of him. Features match in a way a similar looking model's couldn't. We're probably just so used to seeing pixelated pictures that have toured the internetz over and over, we're having a hard time believing the guy was ever photographed by a pro with a DSLR and not with a potato  8)

Still, it's haunting as fuck.

This one is the only one I am aware of and the reason it looks so life-like is probably because hide had it done, as far as the face, on purpose.  He had a wax or plaster cast made of his face.  That way, the wax model would be exactly him.

I am confident in saying this is not the face on the magazine cover.  It's very remarkable but it's not the same as that photo.  Even the eyes are looking a different direction plus the magazine or program cover and back, if that's what it is, are two different poses.
