"Yoshiki Radio" to Debut on SiriusXM
Japanese Superstar to Launch His First-Ever Radio Show

May 12, 2011 -- Sirius XM Radio (NASDAQ: SIRI) announced today that Yoshiki,
Japanese icon and leader of Japan's multi-million-selling, superstar rock
band X Japan, will host his first-ever radio show, ³Yoshiki Radio,² on
SiriusXM¹s The Boneyard, Channel 38.  "Yoshiki Radio," the hour-long monthly
show, will launch on Friday, May 27 at 8:00PM ET. Beginning Sunday, June 5,
³Yoshiki Radio² will air the first Sunday of every month at 9:00PM ET.

³Yoshiki Radio² will offer an eclectic mix of East meets West, and will
include Yoshiki¹s personal favorite music tracks, and music from artists
that have influenced him, as well as an introduction to some of Japan¹s most
innovative and successful artists.  The monthly show will also feature
elements of Japanese pop culture that already have made their mark on
American life, from sushi to Sony to Nintendo/Wii, to the global megastar
Hello Kitty, to the bourgeoning western popularity of Anime.  Yoshiki¹s band
X Japan has been credited with pioneering ³Visual Kei,² a cultural movement
that greatly contributed to today¹s worldwide Anime craze.

³I¹m very excited to do the show exclusively on SiriusXM, as I¹d like to
help tear down the wall between East and West,² said Yoshiki.  ³I want to
show people that there is no one language, no real boundaries when it comes
to music and art, and that we are all more alike than not.  I also hope my
exposure of unique music choices to the West will allow me to show, with
pride, a beautiful side of our culture in these difficult times. ²

³We love introducing listeners to bands they may not otherwise hear on other
audio platforms and providing them the chance to discover great new music,²
said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SiriusXM Radio.
³Yoshiki¹s music ranges from heavy metal to ballads to alternative rock to
symphonic. Only on SiriusXM will you hear Yoshiki¹s pioneering choices of
songs that mix musical worlds.²

Earlier this year, Yoshiki and his band X Japan signed an exclusive,
three-year deal with EMI Music for distribution in North America. X Japan¹s
North American debut album will be released later this year.  The album¹s
first single, ³Jade,² will be available this spring.

X Japan is one of the most successful rock bands in Japanese history, and
the heart of X Japan is Yoshiki, songwriter, drummer, producer, and
classically-trained pianist who also plays guitar, bass and trumpet.
Yoshiki, who has been referred to by his first name only throughout his
professional career, is arguably Asia¹s most influential musical artist and,
according to one industry insider, ³is to Japan what Bono is to the UK.²
Hello Kitty, for the first time in its history, even designed a product line
after a person, creating a new character, ³Yoshikitty,² based on Yoshiki. X
Japan has sold more than 30-million albums, singles and videos, and
headlined and sold out Japan¹s 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome a record 18 times.
The band, having always wanted to break in North America, made its concert
debut at 2010¹s Lollapalooza festival with a critically-acclaimed North
American tour that followed last fall.  The band plans to tour extensively
in 2011, and has already announced dates in the UK, Europe and Latin
America.

I'm kinda stoked for it.  I wonder what his tastes will be?  I hope not too much self indulgence with Violet UK and X... Though I wouldn't complain.  =P  It's kinda like with VNV Nation, when asked what they listen to they said "VNV Nation.  Why make music I wouldn't want to listen to?"

haha, I must admit I like this kind of answers, especially because of their honesty x) In addition, I do believe that it's OK when mucisians love and listens to their own songs, and it doesnt seem odd for me. Meaning, it's better when artists are really satisfied with their own creation.

Thanx for the news! I'm wondering what Yoshiki's tastes would be either.

@CreepyKlutz: but spring isn't over yet >_>

That's pretty awesome, although it's too bad I have so much on my iPod that there's almost no need to pay for XM. But I am interested to know what music he likes, so I hope someone will be kind enough to post the playlist.

I'm gonna be honest, this sounds terrible.

Based on his recent interviews in English I imagine it going something like this:

"Erm.... Um...... Ah.... Erm... Hrere is a songu thrat was veryu.... erm... inspirational... and.... erh.... yeah.... inspirational... to me withu X Japan and so on... *Plays music*

It's not too coherant though, really, is it? I mean, he's presenting a Radio Show on his own. He has to talk at length and be personable. How many radio hosts do you know who are largely incoherant and influent at speaking? He doesn't really ever speak at length about anything. I'm not being harsh on him, I'm just being honest. Yoshiki was born to be many great things, but one of those unfortunately wouldn't seem to be an English language radio host.

@Beauty/Broken: I do agree, radio hosting may be not for him) But for some reason or other he decided to do it, so..what can I say? I hope everyone will have fun, no matter what ;)

anyone remember a time when Yoshiki did that whole 'making music' thing? :p

I love Yoshiki and his random side projects, but this is getting a bit 6 year old on a sugar high, i'm waiting for the words 'and I wanna be an ASTRONAUGHT!'

Do you hear the people sing?

I'm also a little worried about Yoshiki's English fluidity, I reckon he'll have an American co-host or at least a radio producer to help him along. Though I am looking forward to this (if it gets on youtube or something) it would be the perfect place to premiere the Jade single or other songs.

hey, Yochan, don´t worry about that all, like my ol stinks teacher always said when we started a sentence like ääähm, ja... - "untill now nothing is wrong!"
So keep on going telling us what you wanna say ;D

I wouldn't be surprised if the first show was pre-recorded to be honest. o_o

I'm pretty sure it will be live. I've concluded that Yoshiki's mystery trip to NYC is for the radio show. First, he said after Anime Central, which ends May 22, he will be in NYC. Second, The radio show is scheduled for May 27th and third, Sirius XM studio's is in NYC, so it's quite obvious that is what he is going there for.

It's not so much his English that bothers me, mostly he's just stuck with the older Japanese habit of saying 'um' ALL. THE.TIME. More it's his habit of getting his train of thought utterly derailed, we've all seen/read/heard instance of him going "so the new album's gonna be...OMG ICE CREAM!!"

Do you hear the people sing?

Yoshiki is scheduled to record the Sirius show at ACen. I'd link that thread but i'm on my iPhone now :-)

Really? Hmm how sure are you? I just can't see the first episode being pre-recorded and also his secret trip to NYC is very revealing about the radio show, as it happens to be a week after ACen and that is where the Sirius Studio's are.

Well we know it won't be live so he will have plenty of takes trying to get it right, or else we would get a lot of random cussing randomly every time he messes up.

I plan on listening to the show since my roommate has a XM radio in his car we can take out, but I imagine it will be great for hardcore fans who want a better in depth look into Yoshiki's mind and likes.
