I don't know why, but this song is just 'teh sexorz' for me.  :P

Sure, the lyrics don't mean jack, but it's a fun song to listen to for sure!

I would say that the single version of the song really has a lot to do to measure up to the live version of the song.

Stand up! Fuck up!

: Would you jump off a bridge just because everyone else was doing it?
A: Yes, because the pile of bodies would break my fall.

Sounds like something you wouldn't think to write about unless you recently did it.

As I imagined them performing the song, I am somehow getting an image of the temple's abbot getting a heart attack while his assistant is being held back by the younger monks from burning the temple due to the 'Crime of Visual Shock' that was performed there. xD

Or maybe i'm just twisted, oh well.

Merry, Merry give me Merry, why'd you have to be ripe?

The song was not completed when Sony wanted to release Jelaousy, so they put Art of Life and Standing Sex in separate releases.

hi there

So, what's "Number 24"?

Given all the drug references in the lyrics, I first thought it was supposed to be 420 (marijuana) with the numbers turned around so they fit the melody of the song... but...

It's come to my attention that those "straight edge" people use 24 as sort of a slang term for the letter X, since X is the 24th letter of the English alphabet.  Straight edge people like to use Xs to symbolize being drug-free/alcohol-free/no promiscuous sex (oh, the irony...).

So, anyone know what our X meant by "Number 24"?  Drugs?  X?  Something else entirely?

Really I'm endlessly amused by the idea of Standing Sex having ANY connection (even though of course it's unintentional) to straight edge.  It's, uh, not exactly a straight edge song.

Well personally, I don't consider drunken brawls and trashed hotel rooms as making for a clean, wholesome, straight-laced band... ;)

Anyway, I was just curious as to whether anyone knew what "Number 24" meant in the context of the song, but given that the "did X do drugs?" topic has come up-- honestly, I think it's impossible to say for sure given that none of us (as far as I know) were there in their hotel rooms, and given also the nature of the Japanese media.  Even if they did, we wouldn't necessarily know.

Certainly it's entirely possible that all the "sex drugs rock'n'roll" was just an image, though given that they chose this image-- i.e., they thought this stuff was cool and wanted to present that to their audience-- one could reasonably speculate the possibility of their having had more than merely a passing interest in such things.

I think, what he meant  is, that one could easily assume that they had contact with certain drugs, because they simply showed a certain lifestyle where it wasn't that unusual to take drugs. I mean, what Japanese think of that lifestyle I (and of course every other person who doesn't live in Japan or doesn't have experiences from there) cannot know, but since their appearance was similar to western bands, who indeed took drugs, one really could get this suspicion.
But that's then far away from claiming they really took drugs, in my opinion.

  Well and since a not Japanese cannot know it that easy - you know what I mean? Not everyone investigates about the drug market of other countries just because he listens to a band from that country. xD

Is there a special reason that you write "rugs"? I'm confused, hehe

I only was confused because you wrote it twice that way. LOL Thought it's on purpose like some write pron instead of porn. xDDD

Meow, but I think it's okay then to say sth like "One could assume, they took drugs, but I cannot say for sure, because I wasn't in their hotel rooms." *mumbles pouting*
And now I feel reminded of the fact, that I wanna read the Heroine Diaries from Nikki Sixx! LOL

NEVER! :P I don't blush while pouting! *giggles* But you can go on try!

Well, since I know that you indeed have much experiences about Japan (NOT about drugs, don't get me wrong!), I can say: Nice to get assured about that X haven't taken drugs.
(Though I still wonder about Taii's cannabis leave pyjama! But that's from nowadays, not from the past.)

P and M? @.@ What did I miss now again?

;) And you didn't really REassured me. Since I don't care much if someone took drugs in past or not, I don't really thought about those facts before. For me it's simply a secondary information about musicians, unless they aren't obviously inspired by taking drugs during creating their music. :)

Yeah, that's precisely what I was saying. :)

I mean, when for example I see Taiji wearing a pot leaf necklace in DTR, it's a perfectly reasonable assumption to figure the guy likes pot.  If he wore a necklace with a cat on it, I'd assume he likes cats.  I personally don't know and don't care at all whether or not he really smokes pot (or whether or not he likes cats :P), and I also don't care whether or not X did hard drugs-- but when a musician is obviously inviting speculation by singing about drugs or wearing pictures of drugs on themselves (what's this about Taiji's pajamas...?  did I miss something interesting?), I don't see any harm in such speculation.

If they didn't want anyone to wonder about this stuff, they could've sung about white fluffy clouds and baskets of puppies.

Man, whenever I re-listen to this song after not having heard it for a while, I fall in love (maybe not quite the right terms) with it all over again. Might even have to change my sig for it, I'm THAT into this song right now. :P

I'm curious by the way.  During the chorus:

"Stand up!  Fuck up!
Show now mercy Like a lunacy

Kick off!  Fuck off!
I'm getting in the count down"

...in "kick off!  fuck off!", do they mean "get off!"?  That would be more something to "get in the countdown" for, as opposed to beginning something (kick off) or going away (fuck off).

Random observation, but once I thought of that, that part of the chorus suddenly made slightly more sense. :P

1st post in standing sex w00t w00t love the song
simple, heavy, rough, badass and shows that other style of X while keeping same sound. And of course one of the all-english songs.

personally I most like the heavier bridge right before "stand up fuck up" and the refrain "marie marie kiss me hurry"
the transition into and the second half of solo - buckets of hot sex (no pun)

great observations about Number 24 by the way, I was really wondering about that too

get in the countdown?
Yeah I definitely think it means get to orgasm get to orgasm (sorry for bad puns), also cause it comes right before refrain

Welcome!  Great place for a first post.

My favorite part of Standing Sex musically... damn, hard to say, I really like the whole thing.  But I particularly like the main riff-- the one they play in unison after the intro stuff in the beginning-- it's so simple and yet so badass, really a piece of genius.

Pata's long intro when they play it live is great too.

OH HELL YESH, Pata's intro makes me drool. Seriously. I get multi-orgasms when I watch it.

In the song itself (so not live) I like the intro the best. Then I get the feeling like "OMG STANDING SEX IS BEGINNING 8DD"

THAT IS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL! :D When I hear that intro I get so ridiculously excited. I always think of the video/interview thing, where Yoshiki is doing the photo shoot for Standing Sex and he's swinging his hair back and forth to the intro beat. It's such a sexy movement, it just sets my whole feel for the song.

...now I have to put that on. :P

Lady, lady are you ready to go?

I just realized the other day that my Itunes put this song as "Static Sex". I wonder why it did that. I never really noticed until I was organizing it a couple days ago. Weird. But great song.
