We were just assigned our final art piece for the year, and it's going to be a watercolor. We're allowed to put anything we want on it, so I chose Yoshiki. :] Thankfully we're using watercolor pencils so it won't be AS messy, but still.

I got a great idea from my friend on how to do the project, since I fail at drawing; what she did was put a piece of carbon paper underneath the images she wanted to use and traced it onto the watercolor paper, and then colored the shapes in and painted them. So that's what I'm going to do, just because it's easier.

I haven't started it yet, but I've laid it out. Here's a pic of how it'll look (hopefully), and I'll update as I get further.

Some of it got cut off, but it's X-era Yoshiki with a blue rose in his mouth, a black rose behind his head and then two white and one purple roses in the background. I think it's going to look really nice, it'll just...take forever...

Update: Here's the sketch version. It's not very detailed (esp. the hair) because I'll catch all of that with the watercolor :D

I worked on it some more! I've colored in most of the roses and Yoshiki's face; I'm saving his hair for last cause it's going to be long and hard... XD I'm really digging the purple rose, but I'm thinking about changing the one on the bottom to red because...it just isn't a Yoshiki work without a red rose somewhere. Good thing I only colored in the shadows so far.

His face looks dark in some places because I took the picture when it was still wet and the paper kind of...warped. XD It looks flat now, though.

it's good to see the progress, I think it's going to be a great picture!
(I want to know, don't you mind all that small holes from the pins which you fixed on the drawing board????)

I wasn't at school on the day my class prepared them, so when I got back to school they gave me that board with all the staples in it D: I wish they weren't there, but oh well...

Thanks for all the comments guys! My piece is at school right now so I can't take a picture of it, but I did change the bottom white rose to red. :D

It looks awesome, but still kind of... unfinished?
I think it would be better if you'd add a bit darker colors around the eyes, and make the red on the lips stronger.
But if this is the style you wanted to achieve, then you did a great job! ;D

yes, I was thinking the same..... If I were you, I will use stronger colors in the hair, eyes and the roses. it's okay to leave the face in this way.   anyway, good job!

Thanks for the tips, guys. :D It looks a little different up close than in the photo but, I understand what you all mean. It's a little tough to achieve really dark colors with watercolor (at least for me XD) but I'll try and enhance it a little and see how it comes out.

Yes, watercolor doesn't really give the brightest results :D But I'm sure it'll work out, it looks amazing anyway!! ;D

miho, you can get some really bright colors from watercolors, i did the same pic for the most part a while ago, i suggest using Koi brand  water colors, they are so worth it.
amazing pigments
