Yeah, yeah, I know, it came out months ago... but I just got it. :P

What do you guys think of it?

I like it.  I think it's a bit of a departure from their previous style-- it sounds more modern and I don't get much cowboy feeling from it, neither musically nor lyrically-- but damn, it's DTR!  A new single!  After all these years!  Is that cool or what?

I thought it interesting that the music/lyric credits say "All songs composed & Lyrics written by D.T.R".  I'm guessing Taiji had at least a part in writing the lyrics this time, because if you know about all the really dark shit he went through in his life between then and now... I think the lyrics to both songs reflect that.  Admittedly the English lyrics (Wisdom is in English, Lucifer is in English and Japanese) are a little awkward compared to their previous material-- no Suzi Kim this time by the way-- but they seem, to me anyway, to be more personal and autobiographical (from a Taiji perspective).

And I know I'm being a terrible tease about the lyrics now but I have a feeling of not wanting to type these out, since if I don't, maybe more people will have to buy the CD.  It's STILL IN PRINT-- the only DTR release that is, I think-- and you can get it at Third Stage, which has an English page and ships internationally.  Personally I think 1500 yen for two 5-minute songs is a bit much, but!  This is DTR.  You want them to sell enough of these that they decide to make 20 more albums and go on a world tour, right?

Did they self-release this single by the way?  It really has that look, there's no catalog number-- not even a record label name-- and the printing on the CD and the front of the insert are kind of pixelated if you look closely.

And if that's the case, does this mean DTR currently has no recording contract?

I have the songs on my computer, but I'm still not sure about buying it...

Both songs are great, I really like them... When I heard about a new D.T.R single I was kinda afraid that it wouldn't sound as great as the old stuff, and that I'd get disappointed... Well, in my opinion they don't sound as great as the old stuff, but I wasn't disappointed at all...

Hm, I have now clue if it's self released, but I wouldn't wonder if so.

And I'm so damned curious about those two songs! Now that it was described here I have no fuckin' clue how it might sound. XD
Wasn't there not as well an album planned? Ot did I simply get it wrong. :?

And I'm not sure about how to pay there, if I'd order it. I'm just stupid in stuff like this honestly.
Btw: How long did you wait after ordering?

Yeah, I mostly agree.  I kind of hate to say "I don't like it quite as much as the old stuff" because to me it seems like it's a personal thing for Taiji, especially if it IS self-released-- but to be totally objective, yeah, I do like their old material a little better.  But nonetheless I like it and I'm not disappointed with it either.

@Camicat, the sound is... hmm... I guess I'd say it's like a more modern, less cowboy version of DTR's sound.  To me both songs sound more like "normal, modern-day heavy rock songs" if that makes sense.  But still recognizably DTR-- they're different but they're not WAY different.

Was there an album planned too?  I don't know either, but I really hope so!

About ordering from Third Stage-- they don't accept credit cards, but you can pay either with yen cash or with certain kinds of money orders (I'm not sure what kind of money orders they accept from Germany but I think it's on one of their help pages somewhere).  Basically you place your order on the website with their shopping cart system, they send you a confirmation email, you click on the link in the email to confirm, then you send your payment (in the mail) and wait for them to receive it.  They ship only via EMS so once they receive your payment (for me that takes about a week), you'll get your package in about 3-5 days.

And the site looks a little weird and untrustworthy :P, but I've ordered from them at least five or six times over the years and have never had any problems at all.  The only thing that sucks is that the shipping cost is a little high, even if you only order one CD, so what I do is wait until there's enough stuff I want (and enough money to get it) and then order several things at once to make the shipping more worthwhile.

If you need any more help, just ask. :)

:) ThanX for explaining, I should have a look at it again then. Just now it's a little bit difficult with money, but let's see.... "Can't rain all the time." 8)

And I guess I'd find some things there... already saw some 44Magnum CDs and I'd snoop through the used stuff as well, since I've heard, that the used stuff in Japan is often in a way better state then here. XD The Japanese CDs I already have are nearly like completely new, though all of them were already used. :D

Well don't make yourself poor just for Taiji!  But yeah, if you do order sometime I think you'll easily be able to find stuff you want there.

I've found the same thing about used CDs from Japan-- at Third Stage they're nice enough to rate the quality of each one, but in general overall I think they're usually in a better state than American used CDs (not sure about other countries') anyway.  There are some Japanese bookstores here that have used CDs, and though they plastic wrap them so you can't open them in the store, I've bought TONS of CDs there (they're really cheap...) and only had problems with 2 of them.

Now that some time has passed and we have some new DTR fans around...

Anyone else heard this yet?  What did you think?

I've really come to appreciate this single more and more each time I listen to it.  It's a new sound for them-- to me it sounds somewhere between Daring Tribal Roar and Cloud Nine-- but it's still very DTR.  And when you consider the direction they started going with Daring Tribal Roar and how 10 years have passed since then, I think it's a pretty logical sound for them to have nowadays.

And all history aside: these are two passionate, well-crafted songs.  Everyone seems to really care about what they're playing/singing, which is more than I can say for a lot of bands out there.  I like Lucifer especially, there's just so much cool stuff in that song that different parts of it stand out to me each time I listen: the bass solo, the guitar solo, the keyboard/manipulator stuff...

So yeah, this single keeps impressing me more and more with time.  WHERE THE HELL IS THE ALBUM??

That pretty much sums up how I feel about it...  8)

I'm not sure which of these songs is my favorite though... Both rocks!

On Lucifer's case I guess you could change that description to Daring Tribal Roar + Cloud Nine + video games soundtrack...

I don't know why but there are moments on this song where it sounds soooooo video game-ish...
