well.. it doesn't sound like a ballad to me. So I am wondering why is it in there. :)

Yea it's actually the loudest song in the Ballad cd lol

I think during the the ear when Alive was being played, it was their softest?

Maybe thats why they included it. It took me a while to get used to the song too.

I think it surely can count as a ballad in the original sense of the word-- it used to be that "ballad" just meant a song that tells a story.

But I agree that on the Ballad Collection they mean "ballad" as in "a sentimental love song", and Alive is much different from the other songs on that album.

Always thought it was interesting that they included Alive on that album rather than Voiceless Screaming... but Alive is a Yoshiki song and Voiceless Screaming is not, which I'd say is the answer right there.

Yepp, Taiji has the rights on songs like Voiceless Screaming and Desperate Angel since he left the band as far as I know. And the Ballad collection was released later, hehe.

Oh, does he really own the rights to his songs?  I didn't know that actually-- if that's true, then good for him!  I had always guessed it was rather a matter of Yoshiki not wanting a non-Yoshiki song on the album.

It seems so, that he does. X Japan never performed songs like Voiceless Screaming or Desperate Angel as far as I know. But those songs were on the setlist from Otokaze (or was it one of the other projects? Heavens? I'm not sure, but I saw it about one and a half year ago on a setlist were Taiji played).

X performed those two songs in 1992. They are included on the Hametsu ni mukatte DVD (Visual Shock 4)

Ah, I didn't know that, thank you! :)
What about after 1992? I cannot remember having seen Heath together with those songs, but on the other hand - I anyways have seen not many X Japan videos.

Voiceless Screaming and Desperate Angel were never played after. And Voiceless Screaming is played by DTR (Taiji's band) under the name "Voiceless" with different lyrics ('cause it's Toshi I think who wrote those for Voiceless Screaming).

X (not X JAPAN) performed those two songs with TAIJI.
