I don't personally understand what "Cybernetic Crime" has to do with the rest of the lyrics.  What do you guys think?

I even don't have a clue what "cybernetic" means. xD
Well, let's take a look at wikipdia
Quote from: "wikipedia"
"Cybernetics is the interdisciplinary study of the structure of complex systems, especially communication processes, control mechanisms and feedback principles. Cybernetics is closely related to control theory and systems theory."

Well, with that definition, I'd simply say it's sth against the anonymity of the modern times. It's just that people feel more and more isolated these days with all the technical stuff and electronic communication (Welcome to the internet - you're right inbetween the cybernetic crime, huh? ;)).
So maybe - though I can just guess and as well can be completely wrong since it's simply not my native language - it means, that one should fight a little bit against that growing system of anonymity with control at every corner and should just try to find ways to get some warmth into one's life and then fight to keep it.

Quote from: "lyric extract"
"Preachers sing, 'Hallowed Be Thy Name'
Don't you dare believe a word they're sayin'
You'll never fall"

And about this I'd say, that there's not only meant the preachers in the usual meaning, but also preachers of the modern times. We do find them everywhere, how they try to tell us how to live our lives and suggest several lifestyles with advertisement, soaps and any other media around us - telling us that this is the best best way you'll find ever for your life. I think it's just a call to the listener, that one has got the fuckin' right to choose his own individual lifestyle, which one really wants and loves - not the ways one gets suggested everywhere, not those stereotypes.

 Err... yeah... feel free to tell me arguments pro/contra my theory, hehe. I just can hope, that I didn't fail completely, haha!

If it's meant like I analized, I reallly like the lyrics!

EDIT: How could I forget this now?! A BIG THANX to you, Hollywood!!!

You're welcome! 8)

And that's a REALLY great analysis by the way.  If that's what it means, then I really like the lyrics too.  (Also some great imagery in this one-- I like the "sun hangin' by the neck, leakin' its grease" and the "hymns of ventilator screams".  Nice!)

To be honest, I had always got my brain stuck on "Cybernetic Crime" as literally being cyber-crime-- crimes committed on the internet.  Actually I think you came up with some better ideas because it's not your native language... while this particular native speaker got hung up on the literal meaning of the title. :P

Your version makes a lot of sense in the context of DTR too, since a lot of the songs mention rebelling against popular society and finding your own way instead, etc.

Really nice work in your interpretation!

Woah! .... Thank you!

I frequently ask aunt wiki, when there are questions, hehe! 8) It's really a helpful site!

And about the sun image - that one I don't understand really. :? Could you please explain that to me?

Thanks for the lyrics Hollywood!

I think VioletCamicat's explanation is really good... I really couldn't understand the lyrics by myself, but after reading Violet's post, and then reading thew lyrics again they seem to make sense... ^^"

Oh, thanX! :D Though it's still only a theory, I dunno if it's really meant like that, hehe. But I'm glad that I could give you a little idea about what it could mean. ;)

"sun hangin' by the neck"
I'm sure this is a reference to an Old West-style hanging-- you know how in westerns they kill people, and especially execute criminals, by hanging them from a noose (rope with a special kind of knot)?  So I guess the sun has been hanged.

"leakin' its grease"
I guess grease (motorcycle reference, of course) is leaking out of the sun.  Probably a metaphor for sunlight?

I took it as a very DTR way of saying that the sun is high in the sky with light coming down out of it, with the implication that the sun has been executed.

Ah, I see - I didn't understood that "leakin' it grease" as sth related to motorcycle, hehe. Now it makes a little bit more sense to me, thank you.
But when grease is the sunlight and it is leakin' - I'd understand leakin' as something, that get's lost and becomes less and less. So maybe a sunset? Since one usually dies by getting hung and "the light of life fades". What again could be a metaphor then - it's getting darker and darker <--> prospects of future become worse with how it's developing in modern times. Again just guessing though, hehe.

:) And yes, I know execution by hanging, hehe. The last time I saw it was in the movie Maverick. :P Though in a little different way than usually.

:? Hey! Does anyone know what this is at the beginning of the song? There's some strange dialogue or something...
What I understand is a frequent computer voice "Warning... Warning... Warning" and a guy saying "Error 49... Error 49... Code [dunno, cannot understand]50..."
The next things I cannot understand.
Hm.. and somewhere there comes "What the hell?!" and then Mitsuo screams and the song starts. Being no native speaker and concerning that the English of those Japanese dudes isn't the best anyway, I cannot understand most of it clearly. :? Some clues..?

Cool, thank you! :D

Okay, it's not "target at your backside" and "he's right on top of you!"... I should wash my ears! Recently they make things sound gay...

Yeah, wash your ears! :P

Though I heard it a little differently than Babak-- I listened a few times (album and live versions) with headphones, and this is what I got:
WARNING... WARNING... WARNING... WARNING...
(IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?  IS ANYBODY OUT THERE?)
Arial 49, Arial 49... Code 51-50... Code 51-50... This is an emergency... Repeat, this is an emergency... Target at your back side... Target at your back side... Careful... Look out!
(Where is he?)
He's right on top of you... He's right on top of you... WHAT THE HELL?!
(Ahahahahaha...)

And then Mitsuo screams and the lyrics start.

It's hard to tell on the album version if it's "it's right on top of you" or "he's right on top of you", but on the live version I swear it's "he's".

Hmm... dunno, do I have to wash my ears too?  Is there anyone around who can confirm either version (or give us yet a different version)?  Now you've got me curious too!

What do you guys think the intro has to do with the song by the way?  I don't really understand the connection between this and the song... but Mitsuo's scream is cool anyway.

:D Cool, I'm not the only one, haha!

As for the connection to the song: Maybe there happens a cybernetic crime during that conversation? Cybernetics is about the structure of communication processes. Uhm... I don't know.. At least there's communication at the beginning, but I don't know what the crime should be. Saying naughty things during serious missions? No clue...

I'm not sure, but I really believe this conversation comes from some movie... At least it feels like it...

And after listening to it a few times I gotta say Hollywood's version sounds right to me...

On the live version too?  I think it's pretty hard to say on the studio version, but on the live version (which seems to use the same audio clip for the intro) I hear "he's" pretty clearly, especially in the "where is he?" coming from the left speaker.

And I don't think I've mentioned it before, but damn, that organ-style keyboard intro on the live version rocks.  Does a great job of setting the mood before the main part of the song kicks in.

Tooootally agree... It's the main reason why I prefer the live version over the studio one...

And still talking about this song, some dude covered the guitar from it and uploaded the video on Youtube:

Here!

And man, he totally nailed it!
