Yeah, Gene Simmons bass solos are really bad... But overall he's a good bass player... In my opinion he's better than John Deacon from Queen, who's also pretty good to me... But I never payed much atention to Lemmy's bass lines to say how good he is... And Paul McCartney doesn't seem like a very tecnical bass player either...

Well, I wouldn't say that Gene's solos are really bad - he just obviously has other priorities! XDDD He's just too visual!
I don't know really if he's better than John, but I simply find it easier to hear John. I mean, I only have to think of "Anotherone bites the dust" for example - Yay! Bass! So easy to hear! xD There doesn't come a KISS song into my mind now instantly, even though I know more KISS songs than Queen songs.
And Lemmy... well... I think he does a good job, but thinking of that Motörhead has only one quitar (at least I only saw three bandmates, so I guess it's only one guitar), it's really difficult to hear him clearly as well... I mean hear his play. His voice is really good to hear! xD

One KISS song where you can easily listen to the bass is "Sure Know Something". I think is harder to listen to Gene's bass lines because KISS has two guitar players, and the rhythm guitar is always playing pretty much the same thing the bass is playing... On Queen you have only one guitar, so it's easier to listen to the bass.

Motörhead had two guitar players for a while, I think... But Lemmy's bass is full of distortion, so it's harder to listen to it clearly...

Yeah, Lemmy's voice is unmistakale...

Ah, okay... right, Queen only had Brian May and this is not rhythm guitar - I see.

Oh and Lemmy was once able to sing clear. I bet some guys like Jack Daniels somehow changed his voice
Here you can hear him singing in Hawkwind  Maverick once showed me that, I was so damned surprised about his voice!

And out of the chaos I heard a voice telling me:
"Smile and be happy - it could have become worse!"
So I smiled and was happy... and it became worse

I really like KISS' songs but oh man, when you're at the concert, other than Rock'n'Roll All Nite and Detroit Rock City it doesn't even matter what they're playing-- you're way too busy with the explosions and spinning pyrotechnics and Paul flying out into the crowd and Gene spewing blood, etc., etc., and then the girls in the front row start throwing their bras.  It's totally visual!

But yeah, it's about crazy performances rather than great solos.  They're really awesome live, a total spectacle, but not the kind of group you go see if you want to be blown away by the musicianship.

That's what makes KISS such a great band... I'd rather listen to KISS than to Malmsteen...  8)

@VioletCamicat: Hawkwind was a good band, but in my opinion Motörhead is waaay better! And Lemmy's clear singing is not the great... xD

xD I have no single clue about Hawkwind! Well, then I trust your statement.
I only was surprised that he once had a clear voice. I mean now he has to put the microphone over his head and stretch the neck then, just to stretch the vocal cords as well just to make them puke out another sound, but something similar to heavy burps!

I've only listened to one or two albums from Hawkwind... People classify their sound as space rock... You can see why in that video... At least over here in Brazil "Silver Machine" is their most famous song... They're good, but not actually the kind of music I really like...

And yeah, I understand what you meant about his voice... It's weird to realize Lemmy could actually sing instead of... Quoting you... Heavy burping... xD

Space rock. xD Gotta think of Ace Frehley when I read that, hehe! Or Ziggy Stardust.
As for the heavy burping: He would sound like that, if he wouldn't stretch his vocal cords with holding his head so high to reach the microphone. I'm sure, the mic is that high above his head, because of that and not because of he being too small!

Ooops.. back to topic. Well... just now I notice again, that I have a heavy crush on the way Taiji plays! <3~ *listens to D.T.R the whole day* Nice groove!
And I'm afraid I give a damn on how much strings there are!
*runs off, because is still offtopic* :P

Well, still offtopic, but a few posts back in this thread we were talking about bass players that sound similar to Taiji, and I just remembered one that to me plays pretty much the same way Taiji does: Toshi from Gargoyle. His bass lines are pretty interesting, he does a lot of slapping and has some very groovy songs, but his bass is pretty easy to listen to even in the heavier Thrashy tracks... Just listen to songs like  "Kageki Na Junjou", "Hito No Tame" or "Samurai Dynamite" and you'll be able to spot the similarities...
