-When you audition for a spot in a band and all the songs you play them to show off your skills are X Japan or songs from the solo projects or other bands of various members.

Not that I've done that or anything... yet.

Same here.

I'm sure it'll pop up sooner or later. I remeber not being able to find the second reunion concert until nearly a week after it aired. Maybe the torrenters are waiting for night two so they can upload them both at once.  :P

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: Tokyo Dome Concert dates announced! Team Yoshiki!

Totally agree with you Astralmind, I'm in Toronto myself. And yes darkcat, I will cause it's bullshit. :)

I feel your pain my fellow south Ontarian.

And I totally agree with those saying another orchestra concert would be freakin' awesome. They got a lot more songs now than in '91 or whenever the last one was that I think would be enhanced with an actual orchestra playing along with the band instead of having the strings on play-back.

Awesome! I wish I could travel outside the country more often (my lifetime average at the moment is once a decade) so I could be asked those questions.  :D

A lot of people have mistaken my quietness for arrogance instead of the social anxiety I suffer from and, combined with my general look of long hair, at times random clothing and unshaven face, for some sort of mental retardation. Yet, when I'm clean shaven the quiet, clothes and hair lead people to think I'm a full blown homosexual. Not sure how exactly long hair + unshaven + quiet + bad fashion sense = totally gay, but long hair + shave + quiet + bad fashion sense = retarded, but to some it apparently does. Freakin' weirdos.  :-X

I'm Canadian and... uh... we got Rush... *cough*

Really though, the fact that we're such a small country (people wise; 33 million sounds like a big number, but people wise, it's pretty small) and have been able to make a signifigant impact in medical science, world affairs, sports and entertainment is something I'm proud of. And our booze is good too!

Sugizo / Re: New Member

I agree. I pretty much saw the New Year's gig as Sugizo's debut show as a member of X. If it isn't Sugizo, I'm gonna be a bit disappointed. He fits better than any other people I can think of off the top of my head.

I watched it over the week end. Prettty cool documentary, crazy what some governments do to people just because they want to enjoy the "wrong" type of music. I was watching MuchMusic (Canada's MTV... if you don't count MTV Canada *cough*) for the first time in forever and they were talking about the documentary and sure enough, for a brief moment, a picture of X popped up on the screen, no names or music or anything, but I was pleasantly surprised. As soon as they said they were going to talk about the documentary I thought "come on, reference X Japan" and sure enough, there it was. Not much, but hey, it was X Japan on national television for a moment, something two years ago I thought to be impossible. I'll take it! Hopefully coverage of the documentary and the documentary it self will encourage more people to give the band a listen.

Rock Band: Japan

On June 2, 2008, Harmonix announced that it had begun co-developing a Japanese version of Rock Band with Q Entertainment for exclusive release in Japan on the PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Wii. According to Harmonix, Rock Band: Japan will be "the first US-originated rock music game to be heavily localized for the Japanese market". A release date has not yet been announced. While the game mechanics are expected to remain the same as Rock Band, the game will be localized and its soundtrack will include songs by popular Japanese artists.

Ah nuts, the Japanese fans get all the neat stuff. :P

That commercial would be AWESOME! Much like this news. New song, a Christmas show and X getting worldwide exposure through a popular video game series? I can safely say this conference did not dissapoint. Nice to see them doing something on new years eve again too.

Yoshiki / Re: Yoshiki to hold a press conference in Tokyo on 15th September!
« on: September 07, 2008, 07:35:45 AM »
Hopefully this involves an announcement of the world-wide release of the new greatest hits album. I wanna finally be able to walk into a store and purchase an X Japan album, and attempt to get others to do the same! Though hearing an announcement of when the NYC gig will be happening would be great too.

Dream scenario would be an announcement of a Toronto world tour date and the entire main X catalogue being released world-wide as well but that's just insanely wishful thinking.

Though now that I think about it, I wouldn't be shocked if DVDs of the reunion concert series are mentioned. Ha, guess we'll see. I wish more musicians I listened to did stuff like this. I can't remember the last time a band I liked held a press conference.

My favourtie early song. Would have loved if they recorded it on Vanishing Vision or a later album like Stab Me in the Back was, but alas, 'twas not to be.

Toshi / Re: Toshi's new single to be released!
« on: September 07, 2008, 06:54:40 AM »
Yes! I like the T-Earth album so I'll defintely be trying to hear this somehow when it's avaliable.

And has Toshi always been this busy? I figured he'd release less solo-wise with the reunion happening but he seems to be doing quite a bit more than usual (T-Earth album and tour, X reunion shows and future tour, new solo single a month after the T-Earth album, etc.) lately. Not complaining or anything (:P), just curious.

Other Bands / Re: Top ten favorite all time albums?
« on: August 11, 2008, 09:04:33 PM »
I tried figuring this out awhile ago. Was really tricky. These are top ten albums of the few albums that I can listen to front to back without skipping a track. I'm sure if you ask me this a month later, my answers will be different. :P

Not in any particular order:

1. John Lennon- John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band
2. Metallica- Master of Puppets
3. X- Blue Blood
4. Guns N' Roses- Appetite For Destruction
5. System of a Down- Toxicity
6. hide- Hide Your Face
7. Megadeth- Countdown to Extinction
8. The Beatles- Revolver
9. Paul McCartney- Memory Almost Full
10. Ozzy Osbourne- Blizzard of Ozz

A REPLY!!!!

Ha ha, yeah, it ain't System that's for sure, but still good. It'll be a great day when Serj, Daron, Shavo and John get back together, but until then, this and Serj's solo project will do.

And I don't really mind Daron's vocals. I don't know if it's just the fact I'm a shoddy vocalist myself (:P) or if I'm just so used to Daron's vocals that they're sorta comforting to me, but I really do find him a good singer. Though much like the way I heard areas where Daron's vocals would have went when listening to Serj's album, I heard spots during Daron and John's album where Serj's vocals would have went. Shavo seems to be the only one completely moving away from the SoaD sound.

I checked out One, and wow... Lars really needs to take a few drum lessons, my god he's horrible nowdays.

Sad but true

Heh heh heh.

Yeah, Lars ceartinly seems to have sorta been slacking recently. I'm sure he'll probably kick his game up during the tour for Death Magnetic though.

And damn it! No Toronto show. I'm sorta surprised, but hey, if the Death Magnetic tour is anything like the St. Anger tour, it'll last for about a year or so, so I'm sure there'll be a show in Toronto eventually.  :P

Metallica is the band that made me fall in love with music and made me pick up an instrument, I wanna see 'em live at least once!

Since that can too easily happen once again (anybody ever read 'The wave'?... just found out some days ago personally that's too easy to happen

So true. Lately, I really have the same feelings...  Our political scene is depressing. :-\

Same here. Ever since I saw that footage a few days after 9/11 of some woman yelling insults at a Muslim whose only crime was proudly displaying their reiligion. I feel for all the muslims out there. Just because a small group of their peers twist their religion and make it something that encourages hatred and destruction, they're all being judged by a majority of people (from what I've seen) as potential terrorists. It's fucking bullshit. Stuff like that is what almost killed my great-grandfather (he was a fighter pilot captured by the nazis, but, luckily, they didn't notice he was a Jew) and, if the third reich's infulence had reached here in Canada, would have probably killed my entire family before I even existed.

I'm probably ranting here, but racial profiling really hits home to me, and really angers me. Both as a man with Jewish ancestory and as a man with a black brother in-law and nephews.

And my grade 10 history teacher was thinking of trying 'the wave' experiment with my class, he decided against it, but yeah, just hearing about the experiment was sort of disturbing. It seems so easy for people to be bred to hate one another.

And I hate that WW2 bad stuff is all about the Nazis... Do you know how many innocent people the Soviet Union sent to Siberia and/or killed? How many problems it created to Estonia, Latvia (and possibly others) with bringing people from other Soviet countries to work and live here (Estonia has 25,6% ethnic Russians, Latvia 27.3%, Riga around 50% and Tallinn 36.5%)...

Not to mention the fact here in Canada we sent anybody of Japanese decent to concentration camps. The Canadian government treated them better than the Nazis did the Jews of course, but still, it was not right to do in any way, shape or form. It was racial profiling, plain and simple.

As for Japanese musicians wearing Nazi-eqsue uniforms, it doesn't really bother me, despite my Jewishness. The Nazi were snappy dressers! Horrible people, but as far as millitary uniforms go, they did have a fashion sense. I'm sure none of the musicians wearing that clothing are promoting Nazism, so it doesn't bother me.

Other Bands / Re: The Guns N'Roses Topic !
« on: July 21, 2008, 01:16:17 PM »
Ah, my poor brother. He saw Guns N' Roses a few years ago but didn't realise the only members left were from when he was still closely following the band were Axl and Dizzy Reed, so needless to say when he saw Tommy Stinson (speaking of Tommy, awesome to see a 'Mats song on the list too!), Ron Thal, Robin Finck and Richard Fortus running around on stage with Axl he was a little confused. Still enjoyed the show though.

As for the new song, yay. Most of the Chinese Democracy songs I've heard so far have been good, and if the band's willing to let this be the first song people will officially hear from them since '99 I have faith this'll be a good one too.

Other Bands / Scars on Broadway
« on: July 21, 2008, 12:52:47 PM »
I was looking around for some live recordings of this particular band to listen to a few days ago instead of going to youtube or just listening to the two songs the band already released to the public when what should I find but the entire album? Despite fully intending to buy it when I have the money next month (honest!) I couldn't help but download it. I've listened to it three times already and have yet to tire of a single track. My favourite album of 2008 so far.

For those unaware, Scars on Broadway is the new band of System of a Down guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian and drummer John Dolmayan.

Probably my favourite non-X album Taiji's played on. Cool to finally see some live footage.

How long did Taiji play in Loudness?

I remember that once there was somkind of festival near my home where they played when I was younger

Not very long, '92-'94 I think. Not sure the exact length of time but it just a few years.

seconded.

Thirded.

Probably my favourite X song. The interlude (or whatever the piano/string section would be concidered) really added to the song, gave the next section more of an emotional impact. I miss hearing it when I listen to the song on Blue Blood album.

The Last Live / RUMOR: Last Live played against X Japan's will?
« on: July 01, 2008, 10:47:13 PM »
I'd be shocked if they were'nt legally forced into performing the show. They didn't announce the break up until September, so it's highly likely the contracts for the New Year's show were already signed. I imagine something like that would have to be done quite a few months in advanced, maybe even nearly a year before the scheduled date of the show, and if that isn't a mistranslation, wow, would have been quite strange to see The Last Live be an entriely instrumental set. Really shows how hurt Yoshiki was, and makes that hug he shared with Toshi that night all the more powerful.

Finally reading confirmation Yoshiki planned to revive X in 2000 was quite a surprise too. I always thought that was just a rumour. What could have been.
