Trust me, World Cup 2006 was a LOT better than the farce that is 2002.

Bah, what's with the Italy-hating?

Lay off the world champs!

It will be very difficult for Italy to advance now though. Makes me very sad....

Oh well at least I can support Germany and not have a heart-break like last year's semifinal.  :D

I was a bit disappointed with 'The Departed' actually.

Andy Lau/Matt Damon's character was done badly IMO.

In IA, Andy Lau was a cold bastard, or at least a man in complete control. He may have loved his partner/woman, but he always looks out for himself first things first.

In the Departed, I thought Matt Damon's character was a bit shallow, which actually made me wonder why it won an Oscar, as much as I liked Martin Scorsese.

I don't know much about Heaths past, but he wasn't that popular before joining X was he? So naturally filing those massive cowboy boots that Taiji left behind wasn't too easy.

Yeah, I think he wasn't that popular before. I remember slightly the bandname... Majestic Isabelle? Don't quote me on that though. As far as I can tell he was rather underground or something.

I also think that Sugizo or MYV wouldn't have so big "problems".
And the fans who say hide can't be replaced and X isn't X without him would say so no matter who's standing there on stage on his place anyway.

Ah... poor Heath... I still think it is the Paranoia that makes people uneasy around him.  8)

Suggestions / Suggestion: let people talk
« on: June 03, 2008, 11:51:07 AM »
Proposal: Give the Admins a chance to formulate and implement rules. Give people a chance to say what they want.

A few things seem to come up constantly:

1.) People are concerned that this forum has suddenly seen a jump in 'official action'. By this I mean censoring, editing and removing of posts.

It must be said that it is the right of administrators/moderators to actively exercise this power.

What makes people concerned is the fact that no such rules were existent when these actions took place (eg. Removal of darkcat21's thread for Taiwan Concert, censoring of posts). Especially since we are not actually affiliated with any real company that deals with news or merchandise.

People are just worried about the state of the forum, given rapid changes we have seen recently. I mean, it is understandable, we have gone 2 years with little sporadic activity and then suddenly we have a World Tour on our doorstep. Be patient people, welcome to growing pains.

2.) People seem to either hate/love PanthereNoire. I can see why some people would be annoyed by her posts (the matter regarding covering 'Without You' as tribute to hide, the X Japan quiz thread).

All I can say is, people need to express their views more thoroughly. It is actually very difficult to gauge emotional level in written words, and PN's post seems to get people on edge partially because it may appear aggressive and in some cases, belittling.

3.) There are elements of bias, from both sides, regarding PN's status as a site admin.

Some people see her status as an admin on JRR as detrimental, especially given her actions stated above (removal of thread and censoring). Others see it as a mark of responsibility on PN's part.

What is obvious is that people are disturbed by the slide that the forum is going towards 'officialdom' with unclear rules. This is particularly obvious in the case of censoring a poster's view towards JRR, which people see as bias on PN's part since she happened to hold a position there as well.

Was the post defamatory? Perhaps it does, but was it within PN's rights to censor the post? According to the rules, not yet. I think this is the reason why people are up in arms about this matter.

--------------------------------

Can this be resolved? Yes. The key is patience. Let the mods sort out new rules etc. And let people talk. If there is something that breaks the rules, a friendly reminder works better than threats or 'executive action'. Indiscriminate use of ban-hammer will just make people leave.

What happened to Voltaire's "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" you ask?

Why, drowned under litigious lawyers of course...

Sorry for the Novel people, but I hope this helps. I don't want people to tear the fandom and each other apart. Don't point out differences, find similarities.

And for God's sake, leave egoes out of your views. And keep a cool head.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before, but does anyone know the model of Pata's guitar during Scars?

It looks like a Firebird, but it is a Burny and has a different headstock.

Thanks for any help.

Nirvana. - Total underwhelming.

Guns n Roses - I like some songs, but is never interested enough to actually get into them.

Pink Floyd.

Led Zeppelin.

hide solo works - I like to hear some songs, but most of them just makes me wonder what makes him a 'legend'.

It's the Paranoia haunting Heath I believe.

Though I guess it is undersandable, by 1993 hide is a mega superstar while Heath's career was still stuck in the indies scene. Must be why he had to watch every penny then.

I can't really say that I agree, I had to stop the DVD of Alien 4 after about 20 minutes and never watched it again (and I really don't do that often, I sit through bad movies if they're at least funny) whereas I saw AvP, but I can't remember much of it, only that there was sheksual tension between the woman and the Predator  :?

Emmm... creepy interspecies alien sex...

I bet hide could write a song about it.  :P

This isn't aimed at anyone, but this question has generated flamewars before, so I just would like to say, keep it cool people, no need to get aggressive.

As for whom it was written for...

I believe the song is about Toshi, but it is written in memory of hide.

Ignore le.pilote, it's a fucking sockpuppy troll who's trying to get us to fight.

Well... I don't think you are helping our case by resorting to insults either..

Again, I must reiterate. I don't mind hearing other people's opinions, I just loathe it when they try to pass it off as 'facts'...

So please people, keep it civil.

You don't want me to chain you into a chair and make you listen to 'Art of Life' on headphones...

and suddenly changing the track into the illegal love child of 'Barney' and 'Teletubbies' and 'Linkin Park' on repeat. For 10 whole years.

Trust Me.

19
Well, you see, it isn't as much a clash of opinions as a confusion of 'fact' and 'opinion'.

 For instance:

Quote
let's face it: toshi's voice during the last live wasn't as good as it used to be, when they recorded blue blood or art of life.

I don't like some of hide's composition, nor do I really like Toshi's vocals, or the fact that X became focused on ballads on their later years, but to state your opinions as 'facts' is another matter entirely. And in this case, the root of this disagreement.

By saying 'let's face it', you believe what you said to be a 'universal truth' that everyone fails to see, which in this case is what you see as Toshi sounding worse during the Last Live in comparison to Blue Blood/Art of Life.

Further examples:

Opinion:

hide composed the BEST rock songs in X.

Fact:

hide composed 7 songs for X.

Do understand, I am not attacking your opinion, rather I disagree with your belief that opinion=fact.

I don't want this forum to tear itself apart with flame wars, and we have been getting dangerously closer with each argument.

Eh? I think you are mistaking personal preference for fact/objectiveness.

To you Toshi's voice was not as 'good' during the Last Live compared to Blue Blood or Art of Life era, but the significant difference between these two eras meant that it is impossible to say which era is 'better' in empirical sense. It boils down to personal preference.

True, age will play a part in future performances, but give them some slack, high emotions and lack of preparations are significant factors as well.

Clarification:

They performed  Kurenai and XClamation for the audition, but the youtube video is only for the X Clamation part of the song.

If you open the video in a new window, the uploader has the Kurenai video as well. Sorry bout the misleading statement. :)

I believe Yoshiki has been working on Art of Life for a long time.

This video is X's audition for Sony, where they performed Xclamation and Kurenai. Note the piano parts from 3:15 onwards. :)

Other Bands / Classical music... anyone?
« on: April 16, 2008, 12:53:50 PM »
Well, Yoshiki got me interested in Rachmaninoff, and I like Rachmaninoff's other works as well, specifically the Piano Concerto No. 3 and as Hypno has stated, the one which Yoshiki used for his Drum Solo.

As for others...

Vivaldi's Four Seasons is great to listen too, Franz Liszt's Liebestraum and Hungarian Rhapsody are simply delectable. Offenbach, Tales of Hoffmann Barcarolle without the choir is awesome.

And can't forget Bach, Orchestral Suite No. 3 (Air) is very good to sleep to. :)

As for Tchaikovsky... I love his Nutcracker's ballet, but the rest is...

I never really got into Mozart, Beethoven or Chopin.

Serial Experiments Lain OST:

"Duvet" by Boa (A  British band, not the Korean popstar)

And you don't seem to understand
A shame you seemed an honest man
And all the fears you hold so dear
Will turn to whisper in your ear
And you know what they say might hurt you
And you know that it means so much
And you don't even feel a thing

I am falling
I am fading
I have lost it all

And you don't seem the lying kind
A shame that I can read your mind
And all the things that I read there
Candle lit smile that we both share
And you know I don't mean to hurt you
But you know that it means so much
And you don't even feel a thing

I am falling
I am fading
I am drowning, help me to breathe
I am hurting
I have lost it all
I am losing, help me to breathe

I for one think that they are all the more awesome because of it. Sure, they do not pull off fancy moves or show off their skills, but the music they produce is all the more powerful because of it.

Art of Life maybe simple to play, but it is just awesome to behold.  :)

He also had his own version of 'Miscast', which I found to be better than the X-version.

As for Scars, I actually found the Shiroi Yoru version to be the best. Toshi's deep voice and the solo worked better I think.  8)

Eh, the only way we can overcome cultural barriers is by talking through it, not by staying in your own compound and expecting them to do the same. :P

Nietzche won't be able to say anything. Cause he was dead and buried by the time the 'Say Anything' single was released. ;)

That said, the accusation of Yoshiki staging his fall was a result of his often-overdramatic 'falls' during concert. As someone has mentioned, a case of the 'Cry-Wolf syndrome'.
