I'm a huge fan of the visual and somewhat psychedelic aspect of X Japan and wouldn't mind knowing more about who designed the clothes and how the lighting was done and where they generally got their ideas from, and what else those people surrounding X have done since, that could be worth checking out.

That will be hard.
For X Japan's stage performances (all stage design and lighting design), hmm.. you need to be able to understand Japanese at least.. check the names out from DVD booklets and get some info about them (who mostly are Japanese and info about them surely 98% are in Jap lingo). You know, people behind the scene are the least credited, thus difficult to get to know more about them.

Quote

So, for me, to see them is part of the whole impression as much as to listen to them. I know others differ, but I experience their performance as a complete work of art rather than just music, so every toss of hide's weird hair, every leather-squeaking leaning forward of Toshi to get that voice into high pitch and etc is an important part of it.
Very much agree with you.

...And I know Im going off topic..    XD

Note::

Visual 刑 = visual penalty, punishment

huh? where did you get this?
I checked 2 of romanized jap -english dictionary books printed in 1993, couldn't find the word 'kei'. (does it mean the word kei didn't exist before that?)
However, according to my Jap friend living in Jap, kei means type.

Quote from: "Maverick"

And if you don't believe it, have a look at the Japanese entry for 'X Japan' in wikipedia - there's also written that "that [X] with their eyecatching style were the pioneers of what was in Japan later called 'visual kei'"

That's the thing. Wikipedia can be written and edited by anyone. And the people who understand or hear VK is started/ invented by X Japan are more than ppl who say differently. And another thing is, most ppl know more about X /X Japan than Murbas, Visual Scandal, etc (bands before X) simply because X was and is terribly famous and huge. So mostly, they, especially in generation after 80s (both who live in Japan or overseas), only know X as the oldest band doing this visual thingy.

And Radical Pan: Who do you think was it who came up with the concept 'Psychedelic Violence X Crime of Visual Shock' first?
I simply think what here was called Glam Rock or Hair Metal was there then called Visual Kei... no big deal, so

Actually Murbas, 1981, had their logo with words Visual Violence and that was before X with Psychedelic Violence Crime of Visual Shock.

On what I know:
Kei = style/ type. So in terms of word vocab (literally), visual kei = visual style/ visual type which means visual is equal to visual kei or visual is under visual kei category.

However, in terms of the time, history and style, they are different.
Visual is the style of the hair of early X, with armor costume, just like knight era or Hercules/ Xena costume style, looks masculine, hardcore & wild. The style came from western rock/metal style.
Visual kei is whole lot combination from here and there even til now, it keeps evolving. Lots of sources said that Malice Mizer started the first idea of Visual Kei, which was feminine and looking pretty or elegant, combining ribbons or laces, and the person in it normally appears androgyny. (heavy make up).

But nowadays in Japan, it seems that any visual style that's used to support the music or to express the music as a complete piece of art is called visual kei.
Not only limited on lolita & gothic style but also, kimono, school uniform, angel devils, and bright cheerful colorful rainbow style and I believe in the future visual kei category grows even much bigger than now.
Perhaps robotic? o.O

And what I notice is what VK now does not necessary have to be as heavy make up and dress as previously.

Yeaaaah, something is fucked up there. I think the manager doesn't get it, or maybe he's parroting Yoshiki's blather that he was first,

Well I wouldn't say that he's quoting/parroting Yoshiki as the interview was from the producer/manager and the translation came from his words, not Yoshiki's.

At the first line of the producer's words, I was like Huh??
-They started VK and the first to take the Manga Culture with rock music? and the grapndpa of it (the pioneers)?-

With what Hypno said, i think, invented and started are the same meaning. And from my knowledge they didn't start this visual thingy. In Japan there were other bands using this path before them.
I don't know if the translation is wrong or this producer guy blew things up. :?

Anyway, thanks for this, Siri =)

@blues, thanks for the info. =)

I would say that the song was written for hide but it's ambiguous: it had messages for Toshi, that's becoming some reasons of the different version between EMII which was printed in the booklet in year 2005 (before reunion) and live version 2008 (after reunion -- both band and friendship reunions). It's not that surprising if it was made that way, for example, another case I.V. as the song title holds more than 2 meanings.

-------
EDIT:
Quote from: "radicalblues"

About the omitted lines from Tokyo Domes: it could be many things, maybe just for live version, maybe Yoshiki did felt they didn't fit. But...

Nah, I don't think so. He wrote the song since.. hmm 1998 and at 2005 it's formally published as well as with the lyrics (EMII). If he just simply felt it didn't suit the song, it wouldn't need 7 years or more to realize that.
There must be some reasons, a deeper reason for that.
If the demo song was sung before 2007 (before Dec 2006) and the lyrics was the full one, that makes the question even bigger, however if the demo one was already cut before then (before he got acquainted with Toshi again to be precised), then I would think differently.
--------

And...

Quote from: "Maverick"

That's the point. Naturally, there ARE reasons why I.E. I personally think there can be another interpretation. Tho, sorry, I won't reveal this point in public since there are some thoughts in it I don't want to share publicly, which would naturally make a further discussion useless. That I do understand and that also makes me a bit helpless to state my point of view publicly.

And just like Mav said, some other reasons from my own interpretation that I won't talk further here, as the discussion already becomes 'warmer' and going endless.

Quote from: "Maverick"
I'd suggest to let it rest, because going forth with that would cause much more disrespect than already exist.

Agree.

Hmm.. interesting. Thanks for the post blues. It kinda changed my perspective.
Since Yoshiki said that way, the song is for hide.
I'm not in hide's or toshi's side, but, there's something bothering me, which is... those parts that were cut for the live version. I mean, why would they eliminate them and exactly them?
Maybe, except if that explains Yoshiki wrote some parts of the lyrics especially those ones by thinking of Toshi (as lots of things happened and his feelings to Toshi and hide were mixed) and he realized they just didn't really suit the whole context. Or although it's intentionally for hide, it held a 'message' for Toshi before their friendship returned.
In your deleted post, you mentioned that a male and female singers sang the song as a demo, did they sing the full lyrics (EMII version) or something else?

hide / hide's diary about Vanishing Tour, 1988

Very funny!
Man.. really I never imagined their hard indies days, where they even needed to push the car themselves.
When some people shouted 'FUCK YOU' and "I WANT TO KILL THEM!" thought. Lol.
When they had to sleep in a room with 5 cockroaches! xD

Really these very 'human' and honest stories about these mega stars encourage me and make me want to fight more for my life.
Thanks for the post.
Thanks hide, for the diary.

Yeah, this is supposedly how it went:

1. Pink Spider
(started on piano, possibly, and then back to the regular song ?).
- X JAPAN AND LUNA SEA: Yoshiki was on guitar, Shinya (LUNA SEA) on drums

2. BELIEVE
-X JAPAN and LUNA SEA: Yoshiki on drums, Shinya (LUNA SEA) on guitar

3. X
-X JAPAN+LUNA SEA+T.M.Revolution+MUCC+Spread Beaver+LADIESROOM RYUICHI+TOSHI
-Yoshiki on drums, Shinya (LUNA SEA) on guitar, and I believe TMR, Toshi, and Ryuichi all on vocals

ic.. so Yoshiki's been on drums all the way only for 1 song he held guitar.

there's another of X Japan's set list that's totally different from above. So yeah I think it's wish list.
I'm sure nobody knows what setlist X Japan will play today.

82
thanks verisimilitude!
Too bad it's raining again in tokyo. Hope it stops sooon or not raining at all. *need some pics to confirm this*.

I think today's summit will be longer than yesterday, therefore they started 1 hour earlier.

84
it means 15.00 here, only 1 hour difference from Japan which is very good for me. But today I have some schedules that prevent me to be here on time :S
Will buzz here as soon as I get back home.
Thanks in advance for the sharing!

Thanks guys for answering my questions.
After gathering some infos here and there, I have my own conclusion, (I know I will be debated so hard), that it originaly was for Toshi or about Toshi despite that indisputable evidence that Anna was talking about.
My main "evidence" is.. the cut off parts for the live version which are exactly the parts where it's "obviously" indicated Toshi. Why would it be cut off? if for shorten the song, why are they exactly 'those' parts? ..... Because the live version was for hide, so it's purposely edited that way.
*again, my own opinion and conclusion*

But anyway, as previously mentioned by others, we better close this discussion, cuz it goes to personal opinion at the end, that will lead to never-end full rage discussion.
