I'm still thinking about that interview where Yoshiki mentions the difficulties of selling rock music to a new generation of Western listeners who are clearly more hooked to electronic tunes and "hit singles" on Spotify/whatever waiting for the right moment to release that "infamous" new album. Well, put the album out for free (It's been already recorded, so the bulk of money that was needed in the whole process is already gone)  and then compensate with the huge cash returns you get from commercials and fashion shows, I'd say 

Yeah, better keep on dreaming than simply waiting...

I'm just wondering how many times must Yoshiki has rehearsed this script in his head to make it sound 100% legitimate... Too pre-planned. I think that somehow it genuinely reflects his obsessive attention for the perfect timing of the release, the top-notch quality of his music but... Come on, he has released solo material during those years. He's been touring the world for his classical music shows. He writes new music as well. Man, what a tormented personality. I don't know whether to be scared or awed.

it can be summed up this way... 1) Yoshiki is so uncertain and shaky about the new release (be it perfectionism or the fear of not being able to keep up with people's expectations) that he deliberately chose to keep this album hidden from the rest of humanity forever. 2) Other X's members are tired of this endless tug-of-war and eventually ditched the whole project and they're willing to appear on stage only when it's needed as independent musicians. That also would explain why Yoshiki follows the other members but some of them don't follow him back (Pata being a giant example for that, pun intended).

Maybe we really need to get our hands on this:

it's funny how major music releases get leaked at any time, but X's album looks like is sheltered in a nuclear bunker or something. I wouldn't be surprised if the master CD is owned by Yoshiki only, without any copies elsewhere.

I see. So we can legitimately conclude that because of all Yoshiki's side projects (plus the YouTube documentary that debuts on March, that will become the center of endless promotional activities) we won't see the album for at least another 2 years. Surprise, who would have thought ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

So, apparently Yoshiki stated in his New Year's message that X Japan would not be active in 2020. That supposedly a number of contract issues with members and management issues have to be resolved before X Japan can resume.

Yoshiki's message was this

but he doesn't mention any hiatus for the band. The strangest thing IMO is his "I felt alone" while apologizing for missing the (supposed, I know) deadline for X's new album.

I don't think he's doing well at all...

Another idea and not particularly my opinion, but could it also be possible that Yoshiki won't say the actual reason bcs it would show him (Yoshiki) in a bad light? (I'm not sure if this is correct English, since I'm not a native speaker). Or maybe Yoshiki also is thinking that the reason was a bit childish and he doesn't want to talk about it anymore?

it might very well be that both reasons are one. Maybe a "childish reason that would also have put him in a bad light". What's certain is that almost everybody in their entourage knew that the break up was imminent, and Yoshiki spread the 'rumor' soon to be confirmed... I recall that paragraph from Taiji's autobiography where he speaks about his future without X in those terms... " My departure from X was inevitable. When I think about it now, wasn't everyone saying things like that when I wasn't around?"

he's constantly doing his best to keep the ship afloat (even though he's been spending most of his time in music-unrelated projects rather than X). Honestly, Yoshiki looks like he's permanently hurt and despite all the efforts he can't seem to heal... It's almost like he has an everlasting PTSD. To quote his own words, "if I can find a way to escape this life without killing myself... Maybe I should invent it". Quite chilling. I just hope that in his entourage he has other close friends other than Toshi.

Me too. Honestly, Yoshiki is way too secretive and the way he brings back the topic of Taiji being fired (in the movie) without allowing the interviewer to get an explanation is confusing to say the least. The only things I can think of are personal threats, violence involved-- and he doesn't want to disclose that information easily to keep Taiji's memory pristine.

Sorry to bump up such an old topic, but I remembered a Reddit post written by Yoshiki himself about the whole situation (here's the link https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/4a9o6b/i_am_yoshiki_pianist_drummer_and_leader_of_x/d0yim3p/ ). Seems like hide was involved in one way or another too...
