Important / Important Announcement 2019.01
« on: April 01, 2019, 11:48:46 AM »
Dear Freaks,

Spring is in the air and cherry blossoms are abloom in the country of the rising sun! Things have been a bit quiet on the X Japan front as of lately, but we trust that the #Xdrought won't last too long. In case you're here for a quick TL;DR on band activity, we've got your back:

Quote
Yoshiki
Since January, Yoshiki has announced a theme song composed by him for Vin Diesel's latest XXX film as well as one for Spycies, an animation film currently in the works. And that's not all. He has played again at Carnegie Hall with the Tokyo Philarmonic Orchestra, then threw a Yoshiki Classical show in Tokyo with live ballet, promoted a web browse game called Idolm@aster, played piano with Sarah Brightman at Dolby Theatre (SF) and at the Radio City Music Hall in NYC, produced more of his Yoshiki wine, worked with Hyde on his new single Zipang, and most importantly... fell off a skateboard.

Toshi
Toshi's been on Japanese TV almost 24/7 yet stil found the time to start a new mockband, Y!Band, to promote Y!mobile in Japan. We'd otherwise call this a clever marketing move, except Toshi made sure to showcase his impressive vocal skills and even more impressive sense of humour by handing over the drummer role to... a cat. Oh, and by the way, we just got wind that Toshi's latest solo album, Im a singer, sold pretty well. Well done!

Sugizo
X Japan's newest member is still true to his values and, according to his Instagram, has been taking part in all kinds of sustainability-centric events. He has also played his solo show, Cosmic Dance, in Bangkok, Thailand, along with a quintet of household name Japanese musicians. Along with Motokatsu, he also played a visually striking show called Drum Tao8.

Pata
Pata is stil rockin' and meowing (really). He was Part of the 『猫好きさんの祭典 にゃんだらけ vol.7』"Cat Love's Festival: Nyanderake Vol. 7" and the『みゅージにゃんメイト #5』"Myugi Nyan Mate # 5". Has also played several gigs over the past year, including with the Tokyo Yankees at the Earthdom livehouse in Tokyo, at the WeROCK 068 festival and at the『hide tribute 2019 〜Stupid Side〜』festival. His next gig with Ra:IN is at the LOFT in Shinjuku, Tokyo, on April 4th. More info at the LOFT homepage

Heath
Heath released some merch lately and there might be more to come. Unfortunately it seems to be mostly sold out, though!

The Album
According to Yoshiki's latest interview on the subject, the album is 100% ready, he just doesn't think now is the right time to release it. Patience, young Padawan!

The Fan Podcast
In case you're wondering what happened to that awesome X Japan fan podcast that seemed to go MIA last year, know that the X Freaks here noticed a new episode is up!

As for the mighty X Freaks community, here's our latest news:

New mods!

Kasumi is now a moderator of the X Freaks Forum and of the X Freaks Discord chatroom! Welcome to the team Kasumi!

Quote
Hey freaks! I'm Kasumi from Germany. I was born 1991 and I listen to Japanese music since ten years now. nb introduced X Japan's music to me a couple years ago. It started with the Vanishing Vision album. Ever since I heard the first few seconds of "Dear Loser", I was hooked. I am super happy we joined the X Freaks community and I got to know all of you wonderful people. :-) Let's continue to enjoy their music together.

Hatsor is now a moderator of the X Freaks Discord chatroom!

Quote
Greetings X-Freaks! My name is Hatsor, I'm an old man from Portugal and I was born in '98. I love music and lots of it genres, from norse folk, to baroque, to black metal. I discovered X a while ago when youtube autoplayed AOL Live, and ever since I've started to like them more and more :) I've been on the chatroom for a while so most of you know me already, but for you forum only users, a big hello!

fluffy chose to take a break from her moderator duties on the Forum and on the Chatroom. Thank you so much for your help over the past few months. Please keep using your Alpaca superpowers to make this community a fluffier place!

New tech feats!

nb has been working hard on the Forum's software and features. He updated the forum’s SMF software to the latest release, version 2.0.15, and has also enabled video embedding from almost every website! By the way, the website's login feat is now encrypted - you can access it via https://www.x-freaks.com

Example: all you have to do is post the video link.

The Kurenights

...are still alive. We watch something together almost every weekend, on different schedules depending on what works best for everyone. We’re looking for volunteers to host the Kurenights and for new material we can watch - don’t hesitate to get in touch!

...and the important stuff at the end:

The end of X-Freaks.

Humans are naturally drawn to their routines and rituals, so it's not always easy to make a change. But sometimes it's necessary. We have been discussing this for more then a year and tried to find all kinds of possible logical solutions for it, but everything boils down to this: Yoshiki is X.

Without Yoshiki there would be no X, no Toshi, no Hide, none of the other guys. Yoshiki was the one who dropped everyhting to make X happen, including moving to America. He is the one that makes everything come together. And this, it's only logical to fully dedicate this forum to him.

And so today, we are working in that sense and making all the necessary changes. As you can imagine, this is not an easy process for a forum that's been online for 13 years now, but soon you will be able to access the site via https://www.y-freaks.com/

Hope you enjoy our new direction and hope you stay with us at Y Freaks for 13 more years! Today is day 1. Everything starts from here.

And while we’re here, why not learn a season-appropriate kanji?

Cherry blossom (pronounced sakura)

Yours truly, the Y Freaks team,
Sander, Asuka, Friday, MilleQDF, nb, matsumoto, Kasumi & Hatsor

Offtopic / I had a dream. It had X in it.
« on: March 09, 2019, 09:21:04 PM »
Hey folx,

This night I had a dream. There is not much I can remember of it, but I want to share it with you.

X Japan had planned a new world tour. This time, however, significantly larger than the last 2010/2011. They should come to many European countries and should play even four times in Germany. How cool is that?

What made the dream so realistic were the unclear decisions where X Japan should play. For example, on a barbecue challenge event in America or a beer festival in Germany. Such an event, where many small breweries and private brewers present their beer creations to a jury for tasting.
WTF? A beer festival? Why this? The decision is even stupider than Coachella. I mean, the audience at such an event is certainly not the target audience of X Japan. What do beer-drinking people do? Grooving, dancing and many other things, but surely do not listen to the X Japan ballads. And usually this is definitely not the ppl listen to metal. Ok, metalheads sure like to drink beer, but they do not necessarily see each other at such an event. I suppose fans of japanese culture are also rare at this partys. So what was the bloody point?

Well, now the dream is getting a bit darker. I had tickets for at least two shows in Germany. We have a big event planned for the concerts in the forum. I had taken several weeks of vacation and was busy with many organizational things. All x-freaks from Europe wanted to meet at several concerts.

But then another member of X Japan died. I have no idea how exactly, but the fact is, Yoshiki was dead.

* Please do not forget that it was a dream and that emotions and feelings are sometimes perceived differently than they would be in reality *

I just thought "So damn shit!" Everything was gone. The whole planning, the whole hoping for the new album, everything there. "I can never see them live again and there will never be new music."
The fact that Yoshiki died in my dream unfortunately did bother me as seriously as the death of Lemmy or Keith Flint in reality. Shit, but that's the way it is.

But enough of the feelings. Much more interesting was the following. Was it the end of X Japan? No! It was the opposite way round. All concerts took place. Similar to the acoustic special concerts 2017.
And that's not all. X Japan has become more and more successful and active. Toshi had taken the lead from X and the album was released. Tours and other song releases followed. Even another album.
Yoshiki was not replaced. Drums (on new songs) were played live by Toshi and Heath. That being said, the music became a bit more electronic. Like the songs of Ja Zoo or Dope HEADz or even Sugizo's Truth album.

I do not remember anymore. Unbelievable, isn't it?

PROLOGUE: CHILDHOOD DAYS
“Play ball!” My father’s booming call echoes in the vacant lot next to our house.
“Dad, here it comes!” I call back in a powerful voice as I aim for the glove and throw as hard as I can.
“The pitcher throws his first pitch...Strike!”
I loved the sound of that voice.
When the fun is over I sit on the cargo rack of my father’s bike, as he takes me to kindergarten.
“Alright, we’re off!” He says.
“Onwards!” I call out and hold on tightly to his broad back with my small hands.
The invigorating rush as we dash off.
Those twenty minutes on the way to the kindergarten, when I could have ‘daddy’ all to myself, were
more important to me than anything else.
On the 10th of October, 1965, I was born in Tateyama City, Chiba Prefecture. The youngest of three
children.
When I was in my third year of elementary school, my father was suddenly transferred to Chiba City.
It was decided that he would move there alone.
In February, wanting to see my father, I once took the train from Tateyama Station, alone even though
I was still a child, and rode for two and a half hours to go to him. I took the bus to Tateyama station,
went to the ticketing both and while standing on tiptoe I said, “One child’s ticket for Honchiba Station,
please.”
“The local train bound for Chiba is on platform three.” The station master told me.
Clutching tightly onto my ticket so as not to lose it, I quickly walked up the stairs.
The departure bell rang and with that I was off. As the train set off I looked out the window at the
sprawling view of the ocean, heart pounding.
I got off at Honchiba Station, quickly walked about twenty minutes and finally arrived at the Chiba City
court official residence where my father lived.
“Toshi, I’m glad to see you. Tonight let’s go for hamburger steak, eh?”
“Alright!”
We ate hamburger steak at a restaurant that had just opened. That was the only time I ate up
everything, even the carrots – which I hated – that were on the piping hot grill plate with the
hamburger.
“Toshi, you even ate the carrots, you’re such a good kid.”
“Yeah!”
It was a time when eating out was still a special thing, so going out to a fashionable restaurant in the
city with my father was the greatest thing ever to me.
After that, when I became a high-school student, my father was transferred back to Tateyama.
Almost every day, with an unpracticed hand, my father continued to make meals for me. Watching
my father like this, I couldn’t bring myself to ask for him to buy me any of the things I really wanted.
It was then that I started my part-time job delivering newspapers.
Tateyama is a city with a relatively mild climate throughout the year, so the early mornings during the
late autumn when I started delivering newspapers could get pretty cold.
I would jump out of bed at 5 a.m., quickly brush my teeth, wash my face, and put a jacket on over my
pajamas.
People around town were very early risers. There was even an elderly man who would wait at his front
door for me to deliver the newspaper.
“Good morning! Here’s your newspaper!”
“Yes, thank you. Keep up the good work.”
As I finish delivering the newspaper my work gloves would be black. I’d finish deliveries just after 6.30
and head home, where I my father would be standing in the kitchen like always.
“I’m home.”
“Welcome back! Quickly go wash your hands.”
The same ‘wash your hands’ my father had said ever since I was in kindergarten. Breakfast was ginger
pork (shougayaki) and hot miso soup, as well as freshly cooked rice. Once every two days this was the
menu. Even so it was delicious.
“Well then, I’ll be off.”
“Okay!”
It’s a casual conversation, but things like that made me happy.
On my second day delivering newspapers I found a small shrine. I rode my bike into the grounds. When
I stopped I rushed up the stairs, about ten steps. It was still dark and in the quiet grounds I brought
my hands together.
“May my father always be healthy.”
From that day on I continued every morning as a daily ritual until I stopped delivering newspapers a
year later.
The morning of the 17th of May, 1990, my father couldn’t get out of bed. He was taken to hospital.
Unable to move at all, the diagnosis that he’d had a stroke was clear.
He had narrowly escaped death, but unfortunately half of his body was paralyzed and he suffered
from aphasia (1) as a result. After that seeing my father just like a child, was a huge shock for me. He
may have been unable to speak, but he could honestly express his emotions and soon cried innocently
if there was something particularly pleasant.
After my father fell ill I would occasionally return home, just seeing my face my father would cry. When
I brought him souvenirs from around the country and overseas he would cry aloud. Seeing my father
like that, but able to do anything, I would be filled with a feeling of irritation.
My father loved singing and his singing voice could put professional to shame. His specialties were
‘The Bells of Nagasaki’ (2) and ‘Shanghai Homecoming, my little darling’ (3). I remembered those days
when his beautiful singing voice soft and full of life moved me.
However, the father right before my eyes had aphasia. He had difficultly speaking let alone singing.
One day, I put a microphone into my father’s right hand which was not disabled – “It will be good for
your rehabilitation, so sing.” – and suggested karaoke.
My father smiled and shook his head, but I pestered him. “Come on, sing ‘Sake, Tears, Men and
Women’ (4) .”
It was a song my father often sang.
Even though my father couldn’t pronounce words properly, I watched him as he happily cried while
he gave his all to sing. I was at a loss for words.
From the second verse we sang together.
This would be my father’s last duet.
More than any other singer’s song, it is my father’s singing voice that echoes in my heart even now.
Even from now on the song I want to hear the most, but will never get to hear ever again, is my father’s
singing.
If I were to say I had a singing teacher, now I think it would have to be my father.
On the 19th of March, 2003, my father died. I never knew about it for a long time.
I never realized the betrayal. Continuing to deceive people over many years. In a sense an act you
could say is more cruel than killing a person. Manipulating a person’s heart, repeatedly to no end, that
is the horror of ‘brainwashing’.
My brainwashing over the course of twelve years. The truth of all of that is written down here.

- TOSHL

NOTES:
(1) Aphasia: an inability to comprehend or formulate language
(2) ‘The Bells of Nagasaki’ 「長崎の鐘 」 (Nagasaki no kane): a song first performed by Ichiro
Fujiyama, 1949 and later taken on by Yoshie Fujiwara (1949) and Yumi Aikawa (1996). The song The
Bells of Nagasaki was inspired by a novel of the same name written by Takashi Nagai in 1949, which
describes Nagai’s personal experiences as a survivor of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. The novel
was later adapted into a film, The Bells of Nagasaki, in 1950 and then served as the primary
inspiration for the 2016 film, All That Remains.
(3) ‘Shanghai Homecoming, my little darling’ 「上海帰りのリル」 (Shanghai kaeri no riru): a popular
song from the 1950s with connections to a film of the same name, 1952.
(4) ‘Sake, Tears, Men and Women’ 「酒と泪と男と女」 (Sake to namida to otoko to onna): a song
by Eigo Kawashima, 1975.

Community / X-FREAKS からのメリークリスマス
« on: December 24, 2018, 11:00:53 PM »
Hey worldwide X-Freaks  8)

May we take the time to wish all X Freaks a very Merry X MAS!

This year the forum went down and people sought refugee in the chat, a red swan flew over to visit us, we exchanged chocolate and christmas gifts, gave up our social lives to watch X Japan concerts at the weekend and we're entertained by Toshi's new career as a Youtuber and baker. But Toshi is not the only one who is posting regularly on YouTube, because we now have Yoshiki Channel International.

The forum itself saw some major changes with a software-update and a new look and new moderators and admins. Also, since today, we have a special category "Community" where all events and other related stuff are located. Every member has write permissions.

Outlook 2019:
  • We collected your design for our new 2019 x-freaks.com T-Shirt. Because of our laziness it's not yet done, but we will start the next round for voting soon™.
  • SMF forum software update in early 2019
  • YouTube embeds will follow after the update

メリークリスマス Heath, Pata, Sugizo, Toshi, Yoshiki, Hide, Taiji and especially to you all. You are still here and still an X-FREAK. <3

WE ARE X!

Representing all X-FREAKS:
Fluffy, Kasumi & nb

And if you are bored and lonely and depressed and Yoshiki, then just take a look at the following:  ;)

P.S.: Since the new album is completely recorded and done, we hope that Yoshiki maybe makes his mind up and will release it in 2019

so we got the SKULL TRASH ZONE sampler a few weeks ago and I'm always laughing about the lyrics. But today I was listening to Jealousy and recognized how much the lyrics have changed.

Other Bands / I played drums to L'arc~en~Ciel
« on: October 04, 2018, 09:00:19 PM »
Hey guys,
I discovered something interesting that I did not realize before. I played drums to the SMILE album by Laruku and realized that I lost the beat at some songs. Also, I only realized when playing that yukihiro does a lot more than just play the normal beat that you take. Everywhere is fuddling and ghostings, doublestrokes and other little stuff.

I got into a lot of sweat and realized that far more is happening in this shallow pop rock band than I've ever heard.

My resume: They are pretty fast!

Hey guys,

I just realize we need new music. I don't listen to X anymore. Currently I mostly listen to Loudness, Elohim, Aldious, CORNELIUS, Fatboy Slim, Queen and DJ Shadow.

It's time for new music, because I want listen to X again. Are there any demos I don't know? Or maybe a 2010 promised album which I missed? ;)

Anyway, how is it with you? Are you listening to X on a daily basis as you used to?

« on: August 19, 2018, 09:14:09 PM »
Hello x-freaks,

there is an important announcement!

We have a new look and feel \o/

Oh, you already noticed? Well....

The new theme is a bit more dedicated to the actual needs of the modern Interwebz people. It is responsive, so you can use it on you mobile device as well as on your desktop with different resolutions.
Also it has a couple of new functions.

What do you think about it?

Sander, Lucs, Kasumi, Fluffy, Matsumoto and nb had alpha tested it for the last couple of days and so far we can't find any technical issues.

Now you all are the beta testers. And we need your feedback to improve it.

oh, and if you don't like it and don't want to participate in beta testing you easily can switch the theme back by clicking this url and change back to "SMF Default Theme - Curve"

Please, we need your feedback.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you like the new x-freaks theme you can donate Sych0 a few coins for beeing the maincreator of it. Please use "We Are X!" as donation text so he will notice it comes from us.

Community / The Official T-Shirt Of The unofficial X Japan Forum
« on: July 25, 2018, 10:10:14 PM »
Hello X-Freaks,

there will be an X-Freaks T-Shirt which you can order soon.
So you can show all people and all X Japan fans all over the world that you are a supporter of X-freaks! Fuck yeah!

And if you do not want the t-shirt to look like this, then get involved and post your own design until 31.08.2018 // 2018-08-31 // 08/31/2018 in this thread

Then we start a poll among all members and choose at least the one with the most votes, maybe also the design, which takes second place.

The file format does not matter. We will do vectorization later. The other conditions are not so important at first. Important is your creativity!

It would be best if the design were monochrome. This allows us to push the printing costs enormously. Two to four colors is also acceptable. But please no photo collages. That's it for now.

We look forward to your ideas!

Hi,

i was wondering if there is a list with unreleased X songs.

Break The Darkness
Feel Me Tonight
Install
No Connexion
In the Mirror (Loudness Cover)
Beneath the Skin
Only Way
Right Now
Tuneup Baby
Kiss The Sky
Steal Your Heart
Lady in Tears
Endless Dream
Stop Bloody Rain
Time Trip Loving
Hero
Angel
Kill Violence / Violence Killers
Light Breeze
We are X

Did I miss a song?

P.S.: Yes, Time Trip Loving and Break The Darkness were on their 85/86 EPs, but the quality is that bad, that it does not count.  ;)

Update: added Hero and Angel, thx
Update: added Kill Violence / Violence Killers
