Toshi / Re: Yoshiki: Toshi was Brainwashed
« on: September 30, 2010, 05:14:03 PM »
I'm not talking about the specific meaning of the word. To me it looks like he's talking about everything that happened after the break-up, all the rumours about Toshi being brainwashed, the press saying that he was brainwashed, all the trials, money, etc. I'd call that the "brainwashed things" as well.

I agree, I think it refers to the drama around the rumours of brainwashing etc. rather than Yoshiki actually stating Toshi was brainwashed.

Really like this new version! If this is why the album has been delayed then I have no problem waiting until next year! Love Sugizo's work and of course proper drums!!!

Wow, fantastic news (Sugizo has a busy few months ahead)!!! New music as well = awesome! I love Luna Sea!

Really tempted by Germany, but I don't think I can manage as I have a crazy time at uni then with deadlines etc. :(

I hope the "and more" might be a few more European dates!!!!

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X Japan North American Tour
« on: August 19, 2010, 04:51:10 PM »
Thanks Hypno for adding the images etc on the seperate threads - it is good to see what the venues look like (even although I won’t actually be there! :( lol)

Thank you Hypno for putting al the new threads together. I was just looking at all of them and realized that by choosing to play in smaller venues they actually get to play in some of the most beautifull ones in North America.
I always felt that a very theatrical setting would work great for X's music. :)

I echo this! The venues actually remind me of the setting for the Jade PV. I think the theatrical setting will work really well and even although they will not have the same large arena (Tokyo Dome setup etc) we are used to seeing, it will be good to see them in a smaller environment.

Its better to have a packed out small venue than an almost empty large venue!

Unlucky! During those 15 years I bet you thought it would never happen! Let alone when you are on your honeymoon!

Congratulations on your wedding! Hopefully the concerts will go well and they will tour again!

Good luck everyone trying to get tickets, flights, accomodation sorted! Can't wait to hear the reports! Glad they are going for smallish venues!

hide / Re: Headwax suing Yoshiki for using hide's image in concerts?
« on: August 16, 2010, 09:35:04 PM »
It’s a bit of a joke isn’t it – Hiroshi is suing because of hide’s image being used during something hide loved (X concerts) yet is quite happy to stick hides name/image on books, keyrings, lighters, pencil sharpeners, slippers, umbrellas (sorry I dont have time to list all of the other crap that has been produced and is for sale in the LEMONed shop) that are just money making tools.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t fully agree with the use of hide playbacks during X lives, I think Sugizo should be able to play the full song, however, I thought the kurenai intro was a lovely touch and I wouldn’t mind if that was used in future (but only that really). I still think his guitar on stage is the perfect tribute to him.

I would understand if Hiroshi had not used hide/hide’s image as a commercial tool himself and then I could see why he would be upset at X using hide’s image during concerts however it really seems to me that Hiroshi is more upset because he is not getting money (anymore) from it and that saddens me. hide is/was his brother, not a cash cow.

Well I'm happy with the amount of playback they used in the last concert!

Drain - totally justifiable, it's hide's song after all
Kurenai - the most beautiful footage of hide I've ever seen, Sugizo would be murdered if he ever played that beginning solo instead of hide; I wish they'd include the piano+violin beginning in the lives as well though
X - the tobetobetobe is hide's and I can see no one taking that part from him, nor any reason to
Rusty Nail solo - meh, they could do it without hide's playback, probably, then again the Last Live version of the solo is just so perfect... I do think it's ok for hide to have this one solo

So that makes one playback part where they might stop using hide, but I personally don't care. In all other places it's justifiable and, for me, the right thing to do. Many people here sound like it's the end of the world. Come on, it's one (really awesome) solo. I'm sure Sugizo would play it just as awesomely, but I mean, he gets to play 99% of the time anyway. Plus, he has all the new songs. He joined in 2009 and he has played in all songs since then AND in tons of songs that came before him. That's awesome, in a way, already.

I sort of agree here with Hypno, Drain was fair enough (a one off performance of one of hide’s own songs), tobetobetobe was a fun addition to X and the kurenai intro was lovely - in fact I really liked the way they did it and thought it was a lovely touch. However, I don’t think they need to use his solo(s) now as Sugizo is more than capable and it would be good to get his interpretation of the song – yes hide’s Last Live Rusty Nail solo is awesome but  if we want to hear a clone of the Last Live version then we can go watch/listen to that version.

I am disappointed that Taiji only appeared for X. I don’t know if it was bad planning (no time to sort out songs, arrangements etc) or that was all that was agreed to in the first place but it does seem like they had this big announcement and a lot of fuss etc just for one song when perhaps it would have been better saying nothing and having him appear (imagine the wow factor then).

Anyway, aside from that I really enjoyed the concerts; I thought Toshi sounded fantastic - really strong vocals. From the pictures/videos etc the concerts look awesome. Glad they mixed up the setlists a bit. Loved Unfinished!! It would be nice for a bit more variety – some Blue Blood, Sadistic Desire etc but I suppose at the moment they are focussing on this new album and new songs so I.V., Born to be Free, Jade etc are more likely to be played and I totally understand that! Born to be Free is really growing on me! It is so catchy! Anyway, I am really impressed with how they performed and I think future shows should go well – hopefully a few more songs and a few less breaks! Lol!

Some footage of Taiji and "X" is finally on youtube...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uXK19jQuYys

Thanks for posting! That video seems to have been taken from quite a distance away and it still looks so good! Really good atmosphere! Cool to see Heath and Taiji playing beside each other!! Who would have thought that would ever happen??

security took the blackberry and delete the picture in front of us. I feel so bad.
Heath saw happen and smile but not like supporting smile i don't know how to explain.

That is a shame. What do the tickets say? Did they say no cameras/phones?

Oh, actually, did the ticket say X Japan with special guest Taiji? Or did they just say X Japan?

9
They could easily be saving a couple of Taiji's songs for tomorrow.

That is true! That would be an excellent finish to the weekend!

10
I was hoping for some Desperate Angel! Damn! I really hoped they would perform it with Taiji!

Aside from that it sounds like it was a great show. Crazy to see Taiji back on stage! I hope clips will appear on YouTube soon and I would quite like an official DVD release - its not every day Taiji is on stage with X Japan, lol!

Thank you everyone for pics and streaming!

Don't worry. You should enjoy the show! What is the atmosphere like? Do you understand Japanese? If so what have they been talking about? Any mention of Taiji?

22
Surely they can't finish early! That is not good!

I think it might be so Taiji can come out - fingers crossed!

Taiji just tweeted from backstage

https://twitter.com/TAIJIofficial

He said "Soon, it is my turn"

Woohoo!

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: Full Lolla Press Round-up
« on: August 11, 2010, 04:06:42 PM »
I like that sentence from the CrawDaddy article as I think it sums up X rather nicely - even with the Sugizo being mistaken for a woman error ^^;;

The Phoenix Times interview with Yoshiki that Wakyan* linked to is pretty good too.  My personal favourite Yoshiki quote was the response to the question on how X's songs either rock hard or were emotionally charged ballads People have...like sometimes people are angry. Sometimes people are sad. So why can't we have different dimension in the music...Because I play the piano and drums, they're different instruments, but it's the same music. I mean, those instruments are just tools to express our feeling. Some people think it's kind of strange that we do heavy and...also I do rock and classical music which is the same music. For us it's not that different. Our show in Japan is usually three hours long. If we are playing three hours of heavy stuff, people will get really tired and then...we have a combination of those and that makes X Japan interesting. that's what got me into this band

I completely agree, one of the reasons I love X is because of the range of songs from ballads to heavy metal. Can always find a song from X whatever mood I am feeling. I know some people prefer either the heavy stuff or the ballads but I do think it is a strength of X that they have such a variety. I dont know why some people think bands have to be one dimensional and only do one thing, its good to have a range! If people like one song and dont like another then fair play, no need to drag the band down just because you don't like some songs - just listen to what you like!

Thank you Beauty/Broken for finding and collating all of the Press coverage into one thread - makes it easier to follow!

I am really impressed with the volume of coverage that X have had! It has certainly boosted their profile, so hopefully more people will recognise them and maybe look further into their music! I think Lollapalooza can be considered a success for X!

Great topic! ^^

I found this one: http://www.crawdaddy.com/index.php/2010/08/10/live-show-review-lollapalooza-at-grant-park-chicago/?doing_wp_cron

"An opera opening, a female violinist, and ‘80s metal-minded ballads that soar across acres." lol

lol, Poor Sugizo!

That is epic! It sounds so dramatic, I bet people in the crowd were like WTF!

Thanks to everyone who posted links, pictures, streams etc! It has been a fun night (even though I wasn't actually at Lollapalooza)!!!

To be fair to X, 50 minutes is a very limited amount of time for a band of their stature. With most songs being fairly long, it was always going to be difficult to accommodate a lot within such a small amount of time.

I'm more interested to see what the major music publications will have to say about their performance. I hope they had a good time playing Lollapalooza and I hope that the fans did too.

Totally agree!

Hopefully we will get some good YouTube videos uploaded later! Will be good to see the reviews, see what people think! Maybe gain a few more fans - maybe some will join here?
