I have to say I'm proud of the man. He was leading the rock n' roll life until the end. We shall drink to that.
RIP Taiji. May you play the bass whever you may be.

Oh, please don't tell me that's the new song we've been waiting for.
It's bad. I'm dead fucking serious, it's horrible.
It's something you expect from One Republic or whatever they're called. The band that had the hit song Apologize a few years ago.

4 years ago I was really excited about my favorite band reuniting and I.V was pretty good but everything since that, the reunion concerts, world tour plans, album plans, new songs, have been more and more disappointing. After 3 "rock songs" we get shit like this, I'm thinking should I give up expecting them to do anything good anymore.

In my humble opinion Yoshiki should concentrate on the music and stop being the drama fag and spending all his time sending those pointless twitter/whatever messages

I've been thinking we might witness another Chinese Democracy. Of course I hope that's not the case but I've just got those kind of vibes lately

General chat / Re: Did Yoshiki write 'Art of Life' lyrics by himself?
« on: February 03, 2011, 11:12:11 AM »
Probably he wrote some version of those early English songs because if you read the credits from Blue Blood and Jealousy it says:

English proof reading: Brian Evans, Reiko Kudo, Terry Rose (Blue Blood)
English Translation: Michelle Bligh, Dan Levitan, Peter Kalish (Jealousy)

I don't have Art of Life so I can't check the credits but anyway my theory is that the guys (Yoshiki? 'cos his songs have more English than the other songs) wrote the lyrics as best as they could and those people credited on the album fixed the lyrics into understandable English.

On the other hand the "English Translation" on the Jealousy album could also mean that the lyrics were originally in Japanese and those people actually translated them into English, but it's kinda hard to believe the band members wouldn't have had any idea what the lyrics would actually be in English.

Other Bands / Re: bands/musicians you HAVE to see in concert before you die

In alphabetical order

Guns N' Roses
They've been in Finland in 2005 and 2010 but both times I didn't have money to buy the tickets. I know what they used to be but still it'd be nice to see them

Iron Maiden
I've seen them 9 times already but still I want to see them as many times as possible

Judas Priest
I saw them in 2005 and even though they are getting a bit too old already I'd still like to see them at least one more time
Last time they were in Finland was in 2008 but it was the same day as my birthday. I was talking with my friend to go see them but we were so shit-faced we decided to get even more shit-faced and went to bar

Motorhead
I guess it's a band every metalhead must see and they come to Finland pretty often but for some reason I've never seen them

Sex Machineguns
Probably the best band ever from Japan even though the last 3 albums have been quite crappy.
I'd still like to see them though.

X Japan
Well, they're not either what they used to be but if they ever come to Finland I'm pretty sure I'd go to see them

sorry to bring this up again but where's this from? is it on any dvd or video?

If I remember right that's the 2nd day of Nissin Power Station 3 Days in 1991 October 18th. I guess it's available as a bootleg, I have the 1st night and I believe a person  from who I got the DVD also had the 2nd night.

Edit: Well of course it's a bootleg if the video is on Youtube, how stupid I am :)
I just have no idea where to get it, haven't seen any of those on torrent sites ever.

Some years ago I bought most of my X Japan stuff from CDJapan. The out of print (mostly singles at that time) items I got through Japanese online friends. Nowadays when I buy stuff from Japan I use Japanese HMV. At least the stuff that I'm buying is usually cheaper there than in CDJapan.

Way to go Taiji.
Also I'd like to see Dustar-3 'cos of Noisy and Himawari. I have no idea how they are, but 'cos they are both ex-Sex Machineguns members I'd like to see a bootleg of that concert :)

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: Europe Tour: Hope/Wishes etc...
« on: October 18, 2010, 11:06:33 PM »
Well first of all I wish they come to Finland, preferably to Helsinki 'cos I'm too lazy to travel.
Also a longer setlist would be nice with some surprises like Vanishing Love, Sadistic Desire, maybe Weekend and Dahlia could count as a suprise also. Impossible wish would be ancient songs like Endless Dream, Lady in Tears and Stop Bloody Rain :)

I know Yoshiki needs rest from drumming so he could drop the drum solo which I've never liked and maybe fill the gaps with guitar/bass solos or Toshi's solos (like 1994 and during the Dahlia Tour). Also some acoustic stuff would be fine if they'd do a longer setlist, for example Rose of Pain acoustically and I mean the whole song.

If they come to Helsinki I'll go to see them anyway, no matter what they play but to travel to other city I'd need something special 'cos X Japan is not that important to me anymore as they used to be 4-8 years ago.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot. They should let Sugizo play everything, I really dislike the playback thingy. I mean a playback hide solo from 93-96 would be nice but when they play a song live, it should be live.

11

I really don't like how they've taken out hide's guitar intro and Toshi's opening verse, they were very iconic moments of the song, you can't just get rid of them just because you can't have hide on a screen.

My favorite opening was the one with piano and vocals. I can't remember when they did that but I remember hearing it on some bootleg. In my opinion they should have either the guitar+vocals intro or try piano+violion+vocals without the guitar intro part.
In my opinion the thing they have done lately with first piano+violin then guitar+vocal just doesn't work. The latter just feels out of place.

12
So how many different version there are of 14th show?
I know 3 so far. I have 4gb version and 7gb version.
Jpopsuki has the 7gb version and also 6gb version

13
Also I'm getting annoyed with Yoshiki's persistance to ignore/forget basically every song before Dahlia except for the top three popular rock songs, Oh wait, they didn't even play Week End this time. Its rediculous to constantly ignore 3/4 of your song library.

Imagine if Iron Maiden from now on only ever played songs from 'A matter of life and death' and the new album 'final frontier', and the only songs they ever played from their previous 100/1000/whatever albums before that were 'Run to the Hills' 'Number of the Beast' and 'Iron Maiden'. Its really sad and pathetic.

This is getting off topic but didn't they do something like that on the previous US tour?
Mostly songs from Brave New World, Dance of Death and A Matter of Life And Death, one new song (El Dorado) and a couple of old classics. But on the other hand I guess that makes sense 'cos the last tour was the Somewhere Back in Time Tour and they played only old songs. Also all those 3 new albums are pretty damn good so I don't complain about hearing those. I dunno what they played for example in Finland a while ago 'cos I couldn't go see them.

But at least Maiden can still do real concerts even though the drummer is 56 years old and the rest of them couple of year younger. In their 50s anyway.

14
Just watched the DVD last night and the concert fucking sucks donkey fuck.
It's sad to see how a great band has been reduced to this.
Long breaks, running around the stage, talking to the audience but what about the music?
It's a fucking rock concert, only the songs are missing.
I was counting that within the 1st hour they had played 3 real songs which were Jade, Rusty Nail and Kurenai. Yeah, they played the acoustic Say Anything but I don't count it.

If Yoshiki really has such a hard time playing drums that he needs to have a long break after every 2 songs, maybe he should just quit. Get a real drummer, or even better, use old Yoshiki playbacks. He should just play the piano and write the songs.

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: THE Lollapalooza Thread!
« on: August 09, 2010, 08:38:44 AM »
LOL you're totally right. As long as he takes care of himself and wears the brace, I think everything will go well. I actually didn't know that about Miyavi. That's insane...6 days non stop, eupphhh...

What's wrong with Japanese artists if they can't play 6 days in a row?
Iron Maiden did alsmot 200 concerts in 11 months and according to some tour diaries usually they did 6 concerts a week. Short breaks when they changed the continent. Now that's a way to do a world tour.

Albums/Singles / Re: Your Favourite X Japan CD
« on: August 06, 2010, 06:13:27 PM »
Well....  I found X Japan in 2002 when I was 18 years old and 3-4 years I thought they were the best band in the world.
In the beginning my favorite album was Blue Blood and it still is a great album in it's own way because of the songs. No one can deny that most of their best songs are on it. When I got more into the band and hearing different kind of live versions of songs, Blue Blood just didn't sound as good anymore. The mixing is pretty fucked up on that album and the several live versions of those songs just sound a lot better or simply are just faster than the originals. Only songs that I like better on the album than live are Endless Rain, Orgasm and Unfinished.

Later Vanishing vision was my favorite. It was a great album all the time but at some point it just felt the best one.
The sounds were really raw and you could feel the energy and aggressiviness (is that a word?) of a young band. I just loved it and to be honest it's still a pretty good album, though I wish for a better mixing.

Also Dahlia was amazing in my opinion. It never was my favorite but equal favorite with Blue Blood or Vanishing Vision.
And actually this album is the reason I wanted to give my thought to this topic. I just finished listening to the album and it's pretty crappy and cheesy. For some reason only songs I enjoyed were Scars and Tears. Even Dahlia which was one of my favorites sounded lame. Back in high school I had some friends who also got into X Japan but most of them didn't like Dahlia (the album) and I just couldn't understand why but now I guess I do :) Probably the album just hit the teenager emotions I was going through at that time, but today, to be honest I had hard time listening to it completely through. So booooriiiing

So I guess my answer is the album that I haven't mentioned yet which is Jealousy
When I was a huge fan of the band Jealousy was easily my least favorite. It just didn't give the same feelings the others did.
But nowadays when I listen to X Japan every now and then, Jealousy is the easiest to listen to.

It's strange how the opinions change when you older.

General chat / Re: X Japan new song - Born to be Free
« on: July 19, 2010, 12:19:09 AM »
Have to say I'm a bit disappointed with the new song
Back in the day when I.V. was released, eventually I learned to like the song and about 2 years ago I listened to it a lot.
But it's 3 years since X Japan reunited and they have made 3 songs (that we know of) so far. I'm just wondering what the fuck is wrong with Yoshiki, he has made 1 song 3 times 'cos all the new songs sound exactly the same. At least before he could make good melodic songs even though even back in the day he used the same pattern for almost all of his songs. If I'd hear any of the new songs on MTV one day without knowing it's an X Japan song, I'd think it's just another generic pussy teenage rockband that we hear on MTV all the time.

They could do better.... a lot better.

Possible setlist

Amethyst (5-6min)
Rusty Nail (about 5min)
Toshi speaking (5-10min)
Drum Solo (20min) and fainting of course
-------------Encore (10-15min of nothing)
Say Anything (SE)

They're sure to break to US market with that setlist

And probably they shouldn't waste time on talking too much, drum solos and other crap. Thank god Heath hasn't made any solo things (not counting the small bass solo) during the last gigs.

Actually U.S audiences of rock/metal bands like X (think about their style of metal songs) love long solos, a long bass or guitar solo would go down really well, but Yoshiki's drum solo? Absolutly not.

Yeah, I also like good guitar solos and bass solos. I haven't seen many bass solos but like Taiji's solo in Budokan in 1990 is really cool. I was more referring to the hide's and heath's solos in 1992-1996, when they were more like solo performances than guitar/bass solos. I dunno how well they would go down on Western audiences. At least I have never liked them, though 1994 hide had nice solo thingys.

I wonder if Richard Fortus or Wes Borland will join again. If I remember right, Richard wrote on his website after the Tokyo Dome shows that he'd like to do it again one day.

Doubt it. Think that was a one-time-only (or two times in their case) thing, and with Sugizo on board I don't see why they should include more guitarplayers on stage. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't mind seeing Wes or Richard joining them on stage, but I doubt it.

Probably you're right. I was just wondering would it appeal more to the US audience, if someone already famous there would join "unknown" band on the stage. And I have to say that in my opinion the coolest version of Orgasm was when Richard, Wes and Sugizo joined the band in 2008 :)

It's a good thing that Yoshiki understood that to conquer the USA (and rest of the world), they need to start from small gigs. At least "simple" gig, to me, refers to a club or other small gig and I believe I read from another web site that it's a club/livehouse gig.

Let's just hope that it's not as "short" as the Akasaka gig. I doubt the western audience will like if the band only plays a couple of songs :)
And probably they shouldn't waste time on talking too much, drum solos and other crap. Thank god Heath hasn't made any solo things (not counting the small bass solo) during the last gigs.

And let's hope they will finally remove the hide playbacks. New audience will be like "what the fuck" seeing some person with a pink hair on a screen all the time and hearing guitar solos but seeing both guitar players are playing the rhythm :)

I wonder if Richard Fortus or Wes Borland will join again. If I remember right, Richard wrote on his website after the Tokyo Dome shows that he'd like to do it again one day.

That's cool. I've hoped Sugizo would replace hide ever since the first Tokyo Dome show last year. He just fits in the band perfectly.
Now I just wish he would play every song on the stage and that they would stop using hide's recordings.

Albums/Singles / Re: How would you like your World Tour DVDs?
« on: January 21, 2009, 03:42:29 PM »
Well, I think they should release the best concert of the tour (probably from Tokyo Dome). Also a Bonus DVD with some other songs which they didn't play on that concert. I haven't seen the Hong Kong gigs but the Japanese shows are not worth releasing in my opinion. The New Year's gig was pretty nice and Toshi actually sounded good but it's just too short. The 3rd night of the reunion gigs was pretty good (if I remember right), but Toshi voice wasn't anything special. At least it was better than the disastrous 1st night. So if I have to pick one gig so far to be released on DVD, it would be the 3rd night of the reunion shows.
