The Concerts / X Japan 2017 World Tour - Acoustic Special
« on: July 11, 2017, 07:47:43 AM »
Here we go people, the acoustic shows are starting today over in Japan.

July 11 – Osaka-jo Hall
July 12 – Osaka-jo Hall
July 14 – Yokohama Arena
July 15 – Yokohama Arena
July 16 – Yokohama Arena
July 17 – Yokohama Arena

What are your thoughts on this? You think Yoshiki can handle this or will set him back a couple of weeks? To be honest, I was wondering/hoping that the six days would be spread out over the month or two so he could rest well afterwards, but I suppose not. . . Anyone think that we'll be getting any updates for the western areas after the Japan tour is over? (BTW, how is this a "tour"? They're gonna be in Yokohama for almost all of the shows.)

General chat / Japan Expo Premiere of "We Are X"
« on: July 10, 2017, 06:39:36 AM »
(FYI, I'm taking this from the Team Yoshiki page on FB, details are subject to change/be added)

From the Yoshiki Q&A after premiere:

Quote
- Yoshiki's recovery following his operation is 6 months, he wants to get back to the battery afterwards.

- prior to this operation, he had also been subjected to others, including a separation of the vertebrae at the neck.
His current convalescence is going well, he can again walk, move and talk (he could not even speak after his operation, he said). "his body feels the new spinal disc still like a foreign body", but he thinks he's getting used to it.

- the part of the nervous system in charge of the movements will recover, but the other part remains very damaged in depth (it is doubtful of the latter's recovery). Thus, he wishes not to take a long break with his musical career because, if he will be fully restored one day, he "prefers to die on stage" (if this is to happen). He also stated that he wished to be able to make a world tour as soon as possible.

- with regard to the film, it was his American agent who introduced him to kijak, who did not know the band and then discovered it in filming. A lot of daily scenes were not selected for this film but are archived, which led yoshiki to blow us off that there will probably be a we are x 2.

- Yoshiki may consider being an artist as a therapy to remove his pain, but he doesn't think pain is a mandatory condition for producing art (because we can produce from feelings of joy, a - He added).

- the symbol of the rose is particularly popular with yoshiki in its album artworks by its metaphorical reach (the theme of life, in particular).

- on his way of composing, he writes every day as soon as he has ideas, without necessarily needing instruments.
At the time of working on an album, he gradually eliminates the leads he thinks redundant or unfinished, from a hundred tracks to about,,, He prefers to produce only one high-quality lead rather than to focus on quantity, even if "it creates awkward situations with his fans, who don't even believe it" when he talks about a new album.

- for the new album if expected, it will have about 13 tracks, 8-9 of which will be a "good length" (the other tracks are rather des according to him). He also works on a symphony, but has not given us any more details.

- concerning a potential second piece of art of life, he told us that kiss the sky could join this project. He didn't think so at the time of writing, but he figured it out when he wrote the lyrics. However, he added that he was still considering an art of life ii different from kiss the sky.

- from jealousy and Dahlia, yoshiki often plays guitar in the album tracks. On the drums, he had trouble getting used to the tempo of his training in classical music.

- the first rock album that Yoshiki had bought as a child was a live album by kiss. The artists who inspired him are many, including kiss, David Bowie, Queen, the Beatles and the Sex Pistols.

- little anecdotes about the creation of the comic Blood Red Dragon with Stan Lee and Yoshikitty Official that took place on the same model. Yoshiki dined with the creators, who asked him for his job. He returns the question and, during the discussion, the creator asks Yoshiki if he can take it as a model and he accepts.

- he finally entrusted us, after a few sentences in French, wanting to continue his language learning as soon as possible. He has repeatedly expressed his joy to be present in France, in front of his fans.

I'm gonna 100% straight with you guys: I'M FUCKING HYPED UP FOR THIS

I have been requesting for Yoshiki, Toshi & everybody from X Japan to come to Anime Expo for the past four years or so & someone's finally coming! I mean, yeah, I've already seen it twice at the Hollywood screening/Q&A & at least four or five times at home with the DVD, but this is gonna be so cool!

I hope that I can get my copy of "Blue Blood" or "Dahlia" signed!

So, was anyone able to watch/record it? Did you see X Japan or any of your favorite artists play? What were your thoughts on it?

I wasn't able to watch (couldn't find a stream for it on the day of), but a X Japan fan page on FB posted this part of KGU on Yoshiki & Seiko Matsuda's performance. Thought that was really nice.

(^ link takes you to FB video of the performance or should. Be careful with the volume, it's up to max.)

General chat / "La Venus" to be released as single in 2017
« on: December 28, 2016, 01:39:37 AM »

We Are X Film theme song “La Venus” will be released via Sony Legacy Recordings and available everywhere in early 2017!

Adam Block, President of Sony Legacy Recordings, called the single, “a beautiful, powerful track from a stunning film that we hope will be considered for a nomination for best song from a feature film at this year’s Academy Awards.”

Watch Yoshiki describe the song's role in the film:

A new single, eh? Maybe it'll have that elusive guitar solo that were all craving for, lol. No, but seriously, this is the first single to be released in awhile, right? "Born To Be Free" was released sometime last year, if I can remember.

General chat / X Japan song in consideration for Oscar
« on: December 16, 2016, 09:12:07 AM »
And it's "LA Venus". From the Oscar's page:

Quote
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced that 91 songs from eligible feature-length motion pictures released in 2016 are in contention for nominations in the Original Song category for the 89th Academy Awards®.

. . .

During the nominations process, all voting members of the Music Branch will receive a Reminder List of works submitted in the category and a compilation of the song clips.  Members will be asked to watch the clips and then vote in the order of their preference for not more than five achievements in the category.  The five achievements receiving the highest number of votes will become the nominations for final voting for the award.  A maximum of two songs may be nominated from any one film.

To be eligible, a song must consist of words and music, both of which are original and written specifically for the film.  A clearly audible, intelligible, substantive rendition of both lyric and melody must be used in the body of the film or as the first music cue in the end credits.

Nominations for the 89th Oscars® will be announced on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.

The 89th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood, and will be televised live on the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT.  The Oscars also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.

Welp, for a song that no one had heard in full quite yet, this is a pretty big deal (I think). I wonder if it'll be given a chance? Even the prospect of being nominated will be a huge boost to the band's name.

Yoshiki / Yoshiki AMA @ Reddit Nov. 4
« on: November 04, 2016, 09:45:03 AM »
I'm surprised that no one's jumped on this yet.

Yoshiki put out a notice on Facebook earlier on the 3rd about an "ask me anything" event on Reddit on the 4th. If you wanna ask Yoshiki those difficult questions (but let's face it, WE all do), it'll be at this URL - /r/AskMeAnything starting at 3:05 PM EASTERN time

Let's hope he doesn't answer asinine questions like last time (I swear to God, if he answers another "what's your favorite anime?" question, I'm gonna scream). . .

EDIT: The thread is accepting questions right now!
EDIT #2: Changed the time from Pacific to Eastern Time as Yoshiki is in NYC currently

On Kerrang's website early this morning, they posted an article on "Born To Be Free". It's nothing to fancy in my opinion, it's just a bunch of live clips mashed together, but a video is a video. Watch it anyways.

EDIT - Also, it looks like there are a few bits from the documentary as well towards the end of the video.

« on: August 22, 2015, 03:04:01 AM »
OK, so from what Yoshiki said the press conference on Wednesday, we maybe expecting a new single on October 23rd of this year (hopefully). So the question remains, what will the single be of? Kiss the Sky (40%, 25 VOTES)
Hero (29%, 18 VOTES)
Something yet unheard (13%, 8 VOTES)
Born to be free (10%, 6 VOTES)
Beneath the Skin (8%, 5 VOTES)
Scarlet Love Song (0%, 0 VOTES)
Total Voters: 62

So everyone, what do think will be the new single? Have you voted yet?

Taiji / TAIJI - Sawada Taiji book
« on: July 21, 2015, 04:20:22 AM »
I've been seeing this book float around my news feed on Facebook for the past two weeks & apparently it's suppose to entail the final weeks of Taiji's life before the Saipan incident, along with some investigative insight to his passing.

Link is here - http://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/4800235987

So let's discuss people:
- Are you planning to buy the book?
- Are willing to read the book (if you know Japanese)
- What sort of information do you think the author knows about this?

My thoughts are:

- I'm on the fence about buying it. I mean, it was one thing to buy ToshI's book because it was written by him, but I'm wary about this.
- My Japanese is really weak, so I probably couldn't read even if I wanted to. I'd put in a request to the ladies who translated ToshI's to translate this one.
- I have no clue what sort of information the author would have & that's kinda scary to me.

General chat / WatchMojo - Top 10 X Japan Songs
« on: February 12, 2015, 02:25:22 AM »
I swear to you, it's not spam. I thought that this would be a good thing to pass the time.

For those who don't know, WatchMojo (https://www.youtube.com/user/WatchMojo) is a website & YouTube channel that does top ten list videos on various subjects like movies, music, television, etc. Last year, a user on the WatchMojo website put in a suggestion for top 10 X Japan songs, but unfortunately it hasn't gotten much attention for some reason or another. I think this would be an interesting thing to pass around the forums & other edges of social media, just to see what is the best X Japan song.

There are some things to know before you vote:

- I think you need to make an account to vote. I'm not sure to be honest

- Upvote the topic itself before voting! The more upvotes it has, the more likely it'll get a video.

- You can vote for as many songs as you want, but you can upvote vote once (i.e. You can vote for "Art of Life" & "Jade", but you can only vote once for each song)

- Songs with multiple remixes only count as one song on this list (i.e. "Forever Love" ("Forever Love" Last mix & acoustic version will only be listed as "Forever Love"), "Unfinished" (finished & unfinished version will only be listed as "Unfinished")), etc

- Songs that have been officially released through digital means or other albums count & are on the list (i.e. "I.V." (released on the Saw 4 OST), "Jade" (released on iTunes), etc.) By this rule, "Hero" & "Beneath The Skin" will not be allowed on the list.

- Concert introduction songs do not count in this list since they are under Yoshiki's solo works (i.e. Amethyst)

- SOLO works from the members & former members of X Japan will NOT be counted on this list (i.e. TOSHI with T-EARTH, hide with Spread Beaver, Ra:In, etc.)

Other than those rules, go crazy! Vote & spread this around like wildfire! Happy voting people~

*If there's any songs missing from the list that do not go against the above rules, feel free to add them.

Covers / Cover of ToshI's "Amaoto"
« on: February 06, 2015, 06:01:31 AM »
So, this is my first cover that I've released outside of my friends circle and I'm really nervous. I decided to do an English cover of ToshI's "Amaoto" because I had written English lyrics to it around a week ago & I thought it would be somewhat easy to sing because it's so slow. I honestly didn't do any editing to it (mostly because I don't know how) & I used my laptop built-in microphone to sing, so. . . everything is probably low quality.

I hope to receive some constructive criticism & some tips to improve  because I'd really like to become a wonderful singer, just like ToshI himself.

General chat / X Japan concert essay
« on: April 27, 2011, 01:22:07 AM »
Well guys, this was an essay originally intended to be my concert report for my "Intro. to Music" class, but since my teacher won't accept it. . . well, I feel that maybe you might enjoy it. Although it isn't completed & I have no intention of turning it in, I think that it was a pretty nice essay.

So, if you do read it, please tell me your thoughts on it. Maybe if I get bored one of these days, I might just finish it. ((Also, I have a nagging feeling that I screwed up somewhere about their background. . .))

Concert Report: X Japan

On September 25, 2010, I was fortunate enough to attend a concert for the popular Japanese rock band, X Japan. The concert was located within the western boundaries of Los Angeles California at The Wiltern Theater near Koreatown. The band consists of six members: Toshimitsu “Toshi” Deyama is the vocalist; Hiroshi “Heath” Morie the bassist; Tomoaki “Pata” Ishizuka the rhythm (secondary) guitarist; Yasuhiro “Sugizo” Sugihara is the lead guitarist and violinist; Yoshiki Hayashi is the band's drummer and pianist; and Hideto “hide” Matsumoto, the original lead guitarist (although he has been deceased for a several years, X Japan still considers hide to be an “eternal member” of the band). X Japan is known in their country of origin for contributing to the Visual Kei (Visual Style) movement which combined both heavy & symphonic metal with Gothic,Victorian style or glam rock dress attire. The band's musical style is fairly diverse, but most of the time it is considered to be glam rock, symphonic metal or progressive metal. The majority of X Japan's songs are written and composed by Yoshiki Hayashi. X Japan has been together as a band for a little over twenty years. In that time they have released four albums; seventeen CD singles; they have performed eighteen sold-out concerts at Japan's largest venue, The Tokyo Dome; and have sold thirty million record copies altogether. In 1997, X Japan disbanded because of Toshimitsu's desire to leave due of his dissatisfaction with the band's musical direction. After their farewell show on December 31st,1997, X Japan was officially dissolved and all of the band members at that time lead fairly successful solo careers for several years afterward. In 2007, X Japan reunited after ten years of disbandment and no communication (except for Hideto's funeral in 1998) and have been together ever since.

The first song that X Japan performed at The Wiltern was “Jade”. The song swiftly starts off with Yoshiki playing the drums while Sugizo & Pata follow along on the guitar for the first half minute of the song. After several moments of Yoshiki, Pata & Sugizo playing, the pair of guitarists stand silently as Toshi begins to sing while Yoshiki & Heath play their respective instruments. The opening of “Jade” quickly goes in to a decrescendo as it transitions into the first stanza of the song. During this time, Heath's bass becomes the dominant sound in between Toshi's vocals & the clashing sounds of Yoshiki's cymbals during the first two opening lines of “Jade”. The following lines after the first two, Pata & Sugizo join the others with subtle screeches from their guitars, making the the overall pitch to be deep. Then the song builds up tension at the bridge before the chorus while the dynamics are kept at a mezzo forte. Within two minutes, the song goes into a crescendo as Toshi sings the chorus while retaining the steady dynamics. The pitch and the dynamics remain like this for two more stanzas & the repetition of the chorus. After the second chorus, there is a duet of guitars between Pata and Sugizo, which brings the song to an all time high, making the dynamic change into fortissimo. Then after the duet, the song slides into a decrescendo as Toshi sings broadly with a bright timbre along with an incomplete cadence. “Jade” once again goes into another crescendo as the band plays the final stanza and final chorus of the song with brilliant tone color.

During the middle of the concert, Sugizo & Yoshiki performed a duet with their signature instruments, the piano & the electric violin. The duet between them lasted for about two minutes, then they slowly fade out. It's silent on stage for several long moments and the only thing that could be hear were the loud screams from the over 2 thousand fans in attendance. But soon afterward the silence upon the stage was broken as Toshi and the rest of band quickly began their song “Kurenai” (Kurenai translates into “Crimson” or “Deep red” in Japanese).

Help / Questions about lyrics & debates

Hi there. I have several questions about where to put these specific threads at.

1.) I was thinking about making a thread that pertains to me translating Toshi's solo work from Japanese into English. I (assume) that it would be okay if I put it in Toshi's forum right?

2.) I was kind of interested in a X Japan debate thread, but I wasn't sure if that would go into the X Japan general thread or the Band threads.

May I have some clarification about this please?

Toshi / Why do you like Toshi?

Well, I've just been wondering lately. . . why do you ((you fans of Toshi)) like him so much? Is it his charisma, his voice, his looks?

For me. . . I idolize ((not in a creepy way mind you)) Toshi for his will to persevere & his strength. It sounds a little silly, but I really wish that I was like Toshi in that sense because I'm a push-over & I'm the kind of person to let sleeping dogs lie, ya know? But, whenever I watch Toshi's live performance or read about the latest happenings with the H.o.H., it makes me feel. . . empowered, I guess is the word. It's like. . . I feel that if Toshi can be strong & overcome all these obstacles & all of these issues, then maybe I too can be strong & overcome my trials as well. Also, Toshi was kinda. . . there for me when I really needed it the most. ((This is a little personal, but I don't mind sharing it)) Back in March of 2009, my Mom passed away & Toshi's music was the only thing that I really took any kind of solace & comfort in ((especially "Jade" & "Longing~Togireta Melody")). I don't know. . . it's sounds really weird, but during that time. . . it was Toshi & his music that really kept me positive.

So, I'm a little interested in what you guys have to say. If it's too personal, don't feel obligated to say something.
