General chat / Re: What X Japan needs to do to make it big in the US
« on: November 01, 2010, 12:39:02 AM »
Yeah, I was also wondering who in the band didn't like the idea of touring outside of Japan. I had initially assumed it was Pata and Heath, but after seeing them at Massey Hall, they all looked damn happy to be there. And as someone else already pointed out, Heath was very much into it! Let's also not forget Heath's bass solo in Hong Kong where he was totally wild.

Somewhat related to X Japan: before we saw them live, we ended up going to some Japanese bar/grill in toronto called Guu Izakaya. When we went in wearing our X Japan shirts all the chefs/staff started yelling and doing the X symbol. When we left they did the X sign again to the confusion (and amusement) of the non-Japanese customers. It was hilarious and awesome. Every time you go there they pretty much yell at you in Japanese and it's a pretty awesome experience. It opens at 5pm and the line-ups started around 4:35-4:45-ish.

Anyway, the entire staff is mostly just younger people (in their 20s/30s) and none of them seemed to know X Japan was actually even playing in Toronto. I guess maybe next time X Japan will need more advertisements in Toronto haha.

I walked by Massey Hall last night, and I thought about how a week ago history was being made at the venue!

I walk by there every time I'm going to work and I always think about it haha. I sincerely hope they play at the same venue. :)

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: Europe Tour: Hope/Wishes etc...
« on: October 16, 2010, 11:10:11 PM »
Oh I agree. But then again, American/English fans prefer the Japanese versions too... Many of us grew up listening to the Japanese versions. But like I said, I think Yoshiki is trying to appeal to the mainstream crowd in these countries - not Jrock/anime/visual-kei fans. English is, after all, an international language, so it only makes sense. But I agree with you - I love the Japanese songs much more.

They did Rose of Pain in France? that's amazing. That's my favorite song from Blue Blood.

Good luck to the European fans! I hope they come by Europe sometime in 2011. :)

Not from Europe, but that would be amazing if they did "Rose of Pain" and "Blue Blood", but it seems -extremely- unlikely they will be playing those songs outside of Japan. Their primary goal at this point seems to be attract the English speaking audience. While I understand that most Europeans don't speak English as their first language, they're MUCH more likely to know English as opposed to Japanese. They did Blue Blood at end of 2008 at the Countdown GIG... But it seems unlikely you're going to hear it outside of Japan/Asia unless they re-write parts of it in English.

They might consider "Unfinished" but they don't do that song very often anymore... I don't know if they've even done it since they got together again. :/  Also "Voiceless Screaming" is a Taiji song... so it seems unlikely we will ever hear it again. Other than Endless Rain, the new English version of "Tears" or maybe "Crucify My Love" might get played. Personally I would love to hear "Say Anything" more than anything, but it's in Japanese..

If they do a European tour, and they end up going to France, Germany, Greece - maybe four-five places, you might get longer setlists. Otherwise, given Yoshiki's health, I highly doubt you're going to get a very different set-list from what we had here in North America. "Orgasm" would be amazing - I mean the live version is even in English, but it's very long and the venue would have to allow them to run around like crazy haha.

The fact that it was a fully seated event allowed for this. If it would have been a standing room only event these age groups would not have been represented. I couldn't even imagine bringing my little guy if it would have been like it was in NY! No way! However, he was just fine @ Massey Hall. He had fun and he was able to sit down when he got tired. He is still singing the songs. :)

I never thought I'd ever like Massey Hall, but after X Japan, I will most definitely go there again. Hopefully that's where they play next time again instead of the dreaded Sound Academy *shudder*.

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X JAPAN's world tour plans for 2011
« on: October 13, 2010, 12:45:07 PM »
loved waking up to this news today. i know YOSHIKI's gotta be pretty excited about taking over the planet, but i'm hoping he doesn't tire himself out as he's done on several occasions. either way, if he decides to come back to North America, i'm really hoping he stops in Toronto and New York again.  ;)

Me too! If by North America he means Toronto and New York I'm going to die of excitement. :)

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X-Japan World Tour North American Leg Round-up
« on: October 13, 2010, 04:07:19 AM »
From my perspective, an X fan for roughly 11 years now, it was a massive success. I mean, from the perspective of most die-hard fans, I think it was incredible. I attended the Massey Hall show and I don't think I'll ever forget it. Like I said earlier, I mostly stopped listening to visual-kei/jrock/X JAPAN for a few years... I mean I listened to them on and off, but never constantly. Last summer my girlfriend and I started listening to them again.

Seeing them live was unbelievable.. I've been to so many shows in the past 2 years, but honestly, the sheer anticipation, the days leading up to it and then the moment they actually took stage.. I truly believe that was the greatest concert I've ever been to. I never wanted it to end. So from the perspective of a die-hard fan, it was amazing.

Now, I think the real question here is: what is the band aiming for? How serious is Yoshiki about filling up stadiums and being a mainstream success in the US? And will this upcoming album be a major break-thru in North America? It's impossible to know.. In an interview Yoshiki explained that X JAPAN never fit anywhere but even-so, I have to ask: who will listen to this band? Metal fans? Anime fans? Or dare I say, scenesters? Who knows.

I'm just forever grateful they came here to play for us and that it was just as incredible as I expected it to be. Even if they aren't a success here, I hope they realize that they do have fans here, and we love them very much. I swear, if X JAPAN announce that they'll play again in a month from now, I think 80% of their fans would show up again - if not more.

9
Yeah most people were moving, but some weren't. I guess it's to be expected.

Overall though, I was very happy with how it went. :) I'm usually the type that stands there quietly but even I was going crazy haha.

10
There was a couple behind me at the show who were pretty annoyed with the constant screaming/yelling of "X!!!". One of eventually got up and said, "Okay guys, we GET it". I was surprised to see someone at the show who wasn't familiar with this sorta thing. I guess in a way I can't blame them - maybe they were just metal fans who liked a few of their songs and decided to check them out live.

Overall, that concert was amazing... I'm hoping that it will convince them to come back one day. :) I carried my Yoshiki and Pata plushies around (my g/f had the Pata one with her) and I didn't see anyone else with them haha.

The Concerts / Re: Ever had a dream with X Japan?
« on: October 09, 2010, 01:28:17 AM »
Just had another dream last night once again with Yoshiki in it haha. I wish I could remember the details, but he was playing some weird hide-and-go-seek type game with a bunch of people including myself. I think he was the moderator and we were all playing.

12
That was a good report. Yes, the sound suffered in places. I could barely make out what Yoshiki was saying, but I yelled anyway.

Yoshiki: "mumble mumble Chicago pizza mumble"
Me: "YEAAAAAAHHHHHH!"
Yoshiki: "mumble f*cking mumble"
Me: "AWOOOOO!"

Haha. It was the same in Toronto. Just yell and cheer to everything they say!

I've been to a lot of concerts in the past two years and that was by FAR the best one yet. Simply wow. I feel so lucky to have seen them from so close. :)

For those of you using the ttc/subway system you have 2 options:

1. Get off at Queen Station, and go up Yonge Street. It's about a 3-5 minute walk (very close) and turn right on Shuter St and you will get to Massey Hall.

OR

2. Get off at Dundas Station, and go down Yonge Street and turn on Shuter St to get to Massey Hall.

Rows A-H have the best view and the best sound. But to be honest, most seats in Massey Hall are pretty good unless you end up behind one of those large pillar things.

We're in Row H 40-42. :) I'm happy with it.

20
From what I'm reading, the show was amazing, but after Art of Life apparently Without You was playing on the speakers? Did the band come out and do the curtain call with Forever Love as they've been doing so with the rest of the tour?

21
So doors open at 7 or 8? I'm a bit confused. Either way, we'll be there around 7:00-7:15-ish hopefully.

Doors are at 7, it starts at 8 :)

Great, thank you! In a way I'm glad it's seated. I'm guessing Vampires will come on around 8:30-ish and X will hit the stage around 9:30 or so. Should be over before/around midnight if all goes according to schedule.

22

23
How much are people planning to spend on merch? I'm really tempted to buy a Yoshikitty if they're still available, and I really want a hoodie, and of course a t-shirt, so thats like $190 right there! LOL!

I think the Yoshikitty's are sold out... If I had a $100 to spend, I would have bought one haha. But who knows, they might have restocked them maybe? Usually on tours when something is sold out it's sold out. I'd like to buy a hoodie or an official t-shirt... the t-shirts are around $30-ish.

24
I'll be wearing a black X Japan t-shirt and my girlfriend (she's on this forum -ashtrayxx) will also be wearing the same shirt (we just got them in the mail today, yay!). We're actually a group of about 7 people or so, but unfortnately, due to Massey Hall's ticket system, only my sister, my girlfriend and I will be sitting together at H40-42 on the floor while the rest of our friends are scattered.

I'll be carrying a Yoshiki plushie with me so feel free to say hi if you recongize me. :)

25
I hope he'll be fine.

Let's not forget: During the "towards destruction" concert in on 03.28 Yoshiki collapsed during "Art of Life". One day after, on 03.29, he was back in full force. As a matter of fact, he finished "Art of Life" from where he had left off.

26
A Blackberry shouldn't be an issue. It's a phone after all. And like thecrimsonidol said, I don't recall any patdowns either or anything of that nature. I'm thinking of bringing a small camera anyway in my pocket.

27
I've taken a digital camera to Massey Hall before and they didn't ask/say anything about it. Some people have posted entire songs which they filmed using their cameras. As long as you don't bring an SLR or something, it shouldn't be an issue from my experience, but I've also heard otherwise... Hard to know.

28
Does anyone know what the setlist was? Any different from the rest of the tour so far?

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X Japan North American Tour
« on: October 03, 2010, 06:33:41 AM »
Out of everyone who's been to the first 3 shows, how has the sound been? I'm debating on bringing my plugs since I'm 3 row from front and going to be by the wall of speakers. I've only had bad ringing in my ears from a concert last year but this is fuckin X LOL and I have work the next day x_x

If you've had problems with your ears before, then I say bring ear plugs. 80% of the concerts I go to are shoegaze/noise shows, and they're EXTREMELY loud, so I'm not too worried.

30
For people that bought the front row seat tickets, are we really going to be sitting down in a rock concert? The seats looks so tight that you can barely stand up and move around.

You're allowed to stand at Massey Hall but only in front of your seat. I've seen some videos and it looked like most people were standing at their seats. Chances are if you try to move up too close, the security will beat your ass down haha. I've only been there once before and everyone was sitting (but it was a folk/indie show, so that was expected).
