The only thing real about that is Yoshiki listing himself as his favourite musician ;)

Is it this? I know this because the singer is a former Mixed Martial Artist. It matches your description well :P

The Concerts / Re: Has anyone ever met any X Japan members?
« on: August 19, 2010, 03:11:07 AM »
Concerning meeting bandmembers, does anyone has any idea when does X shows finish usually, and if anyone ever got the chance to meet them outside the venue, how much time it takes until they get out of there?

I'll explain the situation, I got tickets for the Toronto show today (my heart is still racing as I'm typing this) and I'm coming from Montréal, Québec, a 6-7h hours bus drive from Toronto. So I have to take a bus to come back, there's one at 00:30 and the next is at 7:30 the next morning. I would like to take the 00:30 one to avoir sleeping there, but I absolutely don't want to miss them after the show, especially since it's not an enormous venue. There would be a good chance that I would meet them...

What would you think?

If this was Asia then I would I think for a band of X's stature that it would be very unlikely to meet them and they would be ushered into their coaches/cars in a hurry. However, seeing as they're fairly low-key in America there is a chance that you might catch some of them at the back exit after the show, I mean, they have to exit the venue one way or another! right?.
When I met all five members of the band 'Pavement' they all came out separately in 20 minute intervals, but they're really down to earth guys so they stopped and chatted to us. They had no security at all but X fans are totally different.

It also depends on how quickly Yoshiki sorts out stuff with the venue. I would guess Pata and Heath would be out earliest and they would be most likely to stop for a quick chat or a cigarette.

However, my biggest qualm about meeting a band like X is the types of fans they might attract. From my limited experiences I know that musicians generally don't like being worshipped but prefer a more down to earth relationship with their fans (not sure if this applies to Yoshiki :P) That being said, there may be a high influx of crazy fans who would do stupid things to see their idols and in the interest of safety, this may result in the band making a quick exit.

Overall, it really does depend on the artist. Some may simply ignore the fans and head home, while others will stay for a chat and take photos. Also, you have every right to wait for them unless you're violating some sort of law or putting people in danger.

Best of luck.

I saw The Expendables the other day...that movie...has so many explosions and unlimited amounts of ammo...like, I can only think what the director was thinking: "Well, if we're going to shoot him, we might as well stab him and set him on fire as well."

It was very entertaining though.

Exactly what I had hoped for :D It's out here in the UK on Friday, can't wait!

I'm also a full-time university student ( but currently on vacation, until September 9th :P). My major ( that tires me off BIG time :P) is Communication studies/ Journalism and my minor is Visual Arts.

I am sure we've had a similar thread before as I recall someone from here studying "Communication and Journalism". I studied that for my undergraduate  :D

Looks like Yeasayer had sound problems which affected their overall performance, many people were disappointed in their set. Also, the casuals who opted to see X seemed to be genuinely entertained for good and bad reasons :D

I think any experience of X is worth it. I was reading that some people were casually watching from the beer tents too.

By the way valkyrie, what other bands did you check out during the weekend?

I was there. For the person who was saying the crowd looked small, I saw crowd footage on the screens and it looked like THOUSANDS. Far more than when they first started the set.

It was a goddamn good show, playback or not. BTW, did anyone notice Sugizo flinging his guitar down at a roadie - think it was during I.V. ? he looked pissed off.

Nice, do you know how far the crowd went back? it looked pretty sparse at the sides, but there is no footage/photos to indicate how far the crowd went back. It's a shame that the casual fans decided to see Yeasayer (who seemed pretty ordinary on the webcast) instead of X.

It is well known that Lady Gaga is a big fan of Bowie's and this collaboration (if legit) is pretty much expected.

Maybe he is gearing up for a comeback in 2011, fingers crossed.

To be fair to X, 50 minutes is a very limited amount of time for a band of their stature. With most songs being fairly long, it was always going to be difficult to accommodate a lot within such a small amount of time.

I'm more interested to see what the major music publications will have to say about their performance. I hope they had a good time playing Lollapalooza and I hope that the fans did too.
