Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, CA - September 25th Buy tickets - US $39.50 - US $75.00 (http://www.livenation.com/event/0900450C43CF895B?crosssite=TM_US:1481693:73790)

The Wiltern Theatre and adjacent 12-story Pellissier Building are Art Deco architectural landmarks located on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Western Avenue in Los Angeles, California. The entire complex is commonly referred to as the Wiltern Center. Clad in a blue-green glazed architectural terra-cotta tile and situated on a diagonal to the street corner, the complex is considered one of the finest examples of Art Deco style architecture in the United States.

The Wiltern Theatre [--- allows] for a variety of configurations from a standing room only crowd of 2300 to a more intimate seated arrangement holding 1850 people.

That is an incredible venue visually. :o Wish we had something like it here. Hope the acoustics do the band justice.

Managed to snag 2 floor tickets cheaper on stubhub rather than buying from the actual site :)

The Wiltern is nice but it looks old in comparason to Club Nokia which I wish they should have played in.

Its also best to line up the night before if you really wanna be a few feet away from the band. 5-11 PM seems like a good time.

I'm curious about this since I bought (the more expensive) pit tickets.  The pit tickets are the ones near the stage, right?  Since I don't know how many pit tickets were sold, are you saying we'll still have to line up that early to be close to the stage?

Yeah. Your guranteed a spot in the pit but that doesnt autmatically mean your up front because a good 250 people will be there too. First come first serve. Does your ticket actually say GA Pit or just GA Floor?

Does it have a seat number as well? Reason I ask is because I just checked the ticket page and they have Official Platinum Seats being sold as 2 tickets with GA PIT and seat numbers for $139 and $159.

I have no clue what kind those are @_@

Man, the ticketsale is really a mess.... @_@ 34875349 kinds of tickets showing up and noone knows what they are exactly. xD
I hope it'll be better planned in Europe (with an announcement BEFORE the sale starts, preferably...)

Do you think you really have to line up that early? 250 tickets don't sound like so much to me, and most people show up at the venue only a few hours before it starts anyway...
Well, you have numbered seats anyway now, no...?

(Don't get me wrong, I'd totally camp for X aswell, but only because it's fun to hang out with friends like that and not because I have to be first row XD that would only be a nice side effect haha :D )

I agree.

I wouldn't mind lining up if I had to but if they're assigned seats, then why put yourself through all that?

At some point, I'll probably call up the Wiltern and try to find out how the pit seating works.

P.S. - My tickets are for row five so I wonder what's so great about row four (the tickets Snapback linked to) that costs twice as much? :)

Ok, I figured out what those tickets were...it seems that theyre trying to sell more PIT tickets so they're selling them in pairs of 2's, which is why they're so expensive.  Every show I've been to in the Wiltern Ive gone to the pit and there's never any seatings, which is wierd considering some PIT tickets are $139 and I dont know why the're a little less. This would be the first time a show in the Wiltern has pit seating if that were the case.

In most cases, every GA ticket has a seat number, which is odd since every show Ive been to on the floor/pit was standing, but that still dont explain the different pricing on those platinum tickets.

It doesnt sound that much but most of the time they let a few people in the pit if there's room so sometimes it can be about 280/290 in the pit or try to fill it up as much as they can. Its best to line up early to be up close to the stage and because you dont want to stand behind someone taller than you lol (The stage is literally  like about a foot away from the rail of the pit)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PTdQEJYe3E

If you look at 0:15-0:17 you can see the pit area and how many people it holds as well as 0:24-0:31. The wall in the back and beyond that is just the regular floor area. I'm really surprised tickets are still up for sale considering this is probably the biggest JRock band to play at the Wiltern. I hope its at least 2/3rd full. And you're right, 250 tickets does not sound alot. If we were to assume those were the only tickets sold, the venue will look really empty. I hope that's not the case. =[

It's fun waiting the night before because there's not much people so its easier to talk with them and mess/run around the sidewalk like a loon and not look crazy in front of police lol

Got a GA ticket. It was 49.50 and not a pit. The last time I saw them is 1994!

Oh, Btw, the show starts at 6:30PM, is there any opening act?

Thanks, Snuffy

It's unclear. X Japan don't tend to have opening acts at any of their concerts - but in America it's almost a neccessity. I think someone said their ticket said "X Japan + Guests" - but that's as much as anyone knows.

It will be interesting to see if they bring a Japanese band over with them or they have an American artist open.

That sounds about right. I've never actually known X Japan to play with an opener unless playing at festivals. They've been a "one-man" live act in Japan since Vanishing Vision.

I actually bought my tickets almost immediately after the show was announced for the Wiltern, nice to see a lot of other fans in different sites so was easy to join here.

My tickets for both Wiltern and Oakland say X Japan only so I'm not expecting an opening band but that's fine by me, just means a few extra songs for me to hear from X. Tickets for the show were pretty well priced after i chose the pick up at the event option so everything is good for my week of X Japan.

**also when I ordered of off Livenation it shows you the area you sit or stand before you get your tickets its not the greatest but gives you an idea, I have pit tickets for Wiltern seat tickets for Oakland.

Its all standing unless you ordered mezz or lodge seats which you didnt. If you look on the map of the Wiltern, youll be able to be at level 2,3, or 4 depending if its packed and how early you are. Level 1 are for GA PIT tickets only. But dont worry, you can still see the band pretty good from level 2 area. When Dir en Grey first performed in the U.S for the first time I didnt get in line early and I was in level 2 and it was a good view.

I think the movie preview guy voice is way over done for these previews. Also showing that huge Yoshikitty doll right at the start would just turn off fans from the US who've never seen them before.

I think there are very few North American fans that are not familiar with Yoshikitty or with Hello Kitty for that matter. I mean they'd have had to live under a rock not to know about it. I just wish they would have run this video a month ago (and not just for the LA show).

And the songs in between?
I wished I was a fly and could follow the whole tour...
How many people from this forum will be there tomorrow?
Are you going to line up?
For those who are friends with Dean Karr on facebook, I think he will be there. Take a picture with him and have a talk with him, he is a very sympathic person.

Anyone know if cameras will be allowed?

Good question.

With JRock bands the usual answer is 'No', because in Japan bands often regard fans taking pictures of the band as a form of piracy, with proffessional photobooks being a lucrative source of income for bands. When I saw X Japan at Tokyo Dome the same policy applied.

But... This is America where it's normal for cameras to be allowed, and X Japan seem to be doing their shows 'the American way'. So it's quite a tough call.

I want to smoke a cigarette with Pata, looks like that is what he's doing there in the pictures.
That video with lining up fans 'we are x' is really very hilarious in the end  ;D

I have to say though, Art of Life in a small club/theatre? No small theatre could possibly contain the awesomeness of Art of Life!

Haha, the beginning is starting to sound alot like their countdown gig the other year with the instrumentals and ballads, just wait, they're going to break into Blue Blood!...well, I doubt it, they were speaking of an english version of Rusty Nail, so they'll probably open with that...but still, Blue Blood would be awesome to open with!

I don't think there's as much of a time limit at smaller American venues as Tokyo Dome, so I don't think there's much to worry about.... A lot of bands also plan for that sort of thing, so I don't think they'll shorten the set list unless Yoshiki manages to injure himself again. =P

02. Rusty Nail (English)
03. Silent Jealousy
04. DRAIN
05. Sugizo Violin Solo
06. Kurenai

08. Yoshiki Drum Solo

Its only like 10:40 or something like in LA if I have my timezone conversions right, they have plenty of time for Art Of Life. Looks like they're already gone through most of their playlist, even if they play songs for an hour more than do Art Of Life, it would only bring them to midnight. I've seen plenty of concerts go up to or just past midnight.

Great setlist, but I really would have liked to see some Week End in there, and perhaps some Orgasm...but since the venue i'll be at is nothing but seats with no pit, it would be rather pointless, lol.

Haha yeah. Massey Hall.. I was hoping they would do more ballads, but honestly, that's the setlist I expected. I mean, I'm surprised they did "Drain". But then again, it's largely in English.. so it only makes sense.
Title: Re: X Japan World Tour @ Wiltern Theatre, Los Angeles, CA - September 25th

I'm really happy they brought back Silent Jealousy to the stage! Cannot wait to see that one performed in front of my eyes in about 2 weeks! Drain doesn't really come as a huge surprise to me, its been occasionally included in various setlists since their reformation, but i'm happy they have Drain! Great song! And of course Art Of Life is one the best pieces by X, so i'm happy they will perform it! Hopefully they play all 30 minutes of it!

I think there was a small break before Endless rain. So that and Art of Life were the encore. But this is only my guess.. And this is also a guess but someone said "Now to the drums" so maybe AOL was played from the piano solo to the end.. We'll know better soon.

I can't believe they played art of life! r23ioro32roirro3-can die happy now- never been so happy, yoshiki sounded happy when he said we finally fu-king- did it XD he talked for a while with toshi saying it was hard, now his friends believe him that he's a musician lol vampires everywhere got boo'd off like expected, with fans chanting X. the set list goes as,jade, silent jealousy, drain, rusty nail. kurenai, IV, born to be free,X,drum break, endless rain, art of life, forever love not particular order they took a while to play, and doors didn't open till 8 and they said 6:30 that's my only complaint... but other then that best show of my life, was well worth the wait, got there couple hours before the show, it was pretty packed, alot of cosplayers, took a few pictures got flyers for vamps and luna sea, wish I can go see them too but spent all my money for X japan.

Sounds like a great concert, quite a good setlist, but I have to point out something, they only played half of Week End at the Taipei live, and havn't played Week End at any concert since then. Why have they suddenly decided to not play Week End anymore? Don't they consider it to be a classic song/good song anymore?

Anyway, Silent Jealousy, basically all the video is the opening with Toshi singing on his own, seems his voice isn't at its best, but still quite good (I blame Yoshiki for making Toshi do pointless straining solo singing moments where they're not nessacery).

Toshi I think did a good job and wondering how the others shows will do but its ok since im heading to the oakland show as well so Ill be able to see the differences

Good quality videos. Toshi sounds great.

Rusty Nail

Kurenai

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jrrqoFxINh0

Endless Rain - for some reason they skipped the "its a dream, I'm on love with you" and the second chorus and went to "I away from my dream" straight after the first chorus. I hope that was a one off.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFlRwZ1U8wE

Rusty Nail and Kurenai are 720p

I was totally thinking the same thing!

XDD

I'm really anxious to find out some kind of attendance figure. Most of the videos and pictures I've seen are from inside the pit, and those from the balcony give obscured views, so it's difficult to gauge what sort of attendance they pulled.

Also, given that this show is in LA and has recieved the heaviest level of promotion for all their NA shows, is it possible that this show will be the most heavily attended of the tour?

Another thing I'd like to point out is that there was X Japan management notices all over the venue saying that the show was going to be filmed for later re-broadcast, so it's possible it's gonna appear on WOWOW at somepoint, either on it's own or as some part of a special X Japan North American tour digest or something (it's unlikely they'd screen 7 concerts, unless this is the only one they've decided to film).

If this show gets good critiques and reviews from the fans theirselves there is a good chance that more tickets will sell for the other shows, I think. Alone the fact that the show wasn´t cancelled in the last minute should reassure some people who were hesitating so far.

The venue was packed, I was really impressed that it sold as well as it did.  Being in line for about 10 hours was fun as hell, too. =D

If the tour continues the way it's been going, I have no doubt this will not be the last tour they do here in the states.

It may be similar to the last VAMPS DVD where they toured North America. It showed parts of all of the shows, then kind of behind the scenes with the band as they traveled, culminating with a full show at the end.

I dunno, I didn't really see any VE fans, to be honest. o_o

Vampires Everywhere was getting booed and heckled, from what I heard.  I was at the merch booth, I couldn't stand listening to them anymore than I had to, to be frank.

I'm worried that X fans were a bit too harsh to VE, if there were any strictly VE fans there, to make any new friends for the band.  It also didn't help that the time between X and VE was, like, 45 minutes or somethin' crazy like that.

Well... Heh... I made a sign that said "I wish it was Vampires NOWHERE" and my buddy held it up on the second tier.. Apparently, the singer pointed at him and did the whole "Come hither" finger action, provoking my friend.

At the end of their set, he just yanked the cord out of his mic and left the stage.  The drummer approached the audience and gave some thanks to a few fans and walked off.

Don't get me wrong, I dislike that band a whole bunch- mostly the vocalist, everything else isn't that bad, it's just that he's abysmal- but I kinda felt bad.  Not that bad though.. =P

How unproffessional of them. I mean, yeah, it's never nice to be an opener who no-one wants there, but at the end of the day if he decides to confront audience members and act so immaturely he's just asking for it.

If it's clear that he reacts to it, other X fans who want to rile him up are going to thrive off it.

I'm sure they won't be hated too much when they come to Canada. Many of the concerts i've attended here in Canada, when an opening act plays their set, they don't seem to get hated or anything, we just seem to stand around doing absolutely nothing at all. I'm dead serious. We just stand or sit and just watch without enthusiasm of any type, usually an applause or two comes out after a song, but thats it. Its pretty funny.

This is true! I remember when Bullet For my Valentine opened for Iron Maiden in 2006, reviews of the shows said that people were shouting insults at them, throwing things etc. But when the tour came to Toronto, nobody did a damn thing, we all just looked at them like they had 3 heads or something.

LOL @ Bandon. It's true. When Apocalyptica played the Vogue (a TERRIBLE venue for metal btw) my son and I were actually asked to 'tone down the rowdiness'. We were doing what most people do at a metal concert;  yelling; jumping; singing along and holding 'horns up'. My son laughed and asked them if they were sure they were in the right concert. "After all, cellos and all, you sure you weren't expecting Yo Yo Ma clones?" We laughed and continued to go wild with a large, but not large enough, portion of the audience. Miyavi's concert at the Commodore was an entirely different experience however. HE complained with jocularity to US that he couldn't hear his guitar on his video playback after the concert, so we will see. Vancouver is a city of 2nd and 3rd generation as well as immigrant Asians. Japanese students come here to go to school and  every Japanese Canadian I know in is attending X Japan, so something tells me this won't be a quiet or impolite concert. I will post a report here: http://katemiotto.typepad.com/blog/ (http://katemiotto.typepad.com/blog/) either way.

Maybe the lack of hide pictures is because of this legal situation with Headwax...?

Overall it seemed like the venue was pretty well attended. Hopefully the tour will continue to be successfull for them!

If I recall correctly, I remember reading a thread on this forum saying the case of Yoshiki vs. Headwax was thrown out of court. But still...did they at least use hide's image for the beginning of Kurenai?

I think they're using violin+piano for the kurenai intro, so it wouldn't make much sense to put him there. But I was thinking they'd at least use him for the "tobe tobe tobe" X jump part...

How did VE take the booing? I've seen some opening bands get visibly upset in the past about it, while others enjoyed it and continued to piss off the crowd lol.

Well...

that was you? haha I kept booing them I was right in the side of you guys XD

According to this (http://natalie.mu/music/news/38201) article at natalie.mu, the hide's management forbid the use of hide's images on the day before the show. It is still unknown if they will be used in the future.

And Barks has some pictures from the show, including the crowd - http://www.barks.jp/news/?id=1000064440

It looks like it was sold out alright!

Hey guys, hope you don't mind me asking a dumb question here. Hopefully it isn't considered off-topic since it mostly concerns the NY show in 2 weeks.

I actually live in NY and I'll be attending Comic Con, and will also be attending the Oct 10th X show. I'm curious for any of you who were in line for the LA show, when did you get in line and how good was your view? I'm fine with getting there Sunday morning before noon, but I'm worried I'm going to end up in a corner or behind a pole or something. Camping out isn't an option because of comic con (I'm doing some portfolio reviews the day before and want to get some rest, as Saturday will be a day I've been working my butt off towards for the past several months, and I want a good night's sleep as a reward). Anyway, I was just wondering how late or early any of you may have gotten there, and if you were pleased with the view as a result.

Thanks so much!!

Everything, apart from the hide playback and the changed lyrics seemed completely awesome from the videos I've seen. I don't personally like it but I can understand the point of the changed lyrics - they're trying to win new North American fans. the hide solo playback, however...I know if I was checking them out for the first time and saw that I'd think it was horrible in a 'these guys can't play their instruments live' sort of way...and that's NOT a vibe you want to give off, especially to metal fans...that being said, I want to repeat that everything else seemed VERY awesome.

I've realised that the reason they included Drain in the setlist, and unfortunatly the reason they're never going to replace it with something else is because its completely in English.

A not-so-big-fan said in his blog (http://jamesoliveirablog.blogspot.com/2010/09/x-japan-show.html) that the sound "blew ass" and that Yoshiki was "the only one really getting into the music it seemed like. Everyone else was kind of just standing around nearly their whole set".

What do the concert-goers say to that?

JrockRevolution (http://www.jrockrevolution.com/index.php/webzine/feature-articles/1599-x-japan-wiltern-theatre-live-report.html), however, liked the show.

Yeah, he's definitely struggling.

I think the the part he struggles with the most is the cadence. The pitch and delivery of what he says isn't right.

Like when he says stuff like "I want to hear... Your voice, okay?" The delivery is labored, but not because he's lost for words, I think he's just struggling with sentence delivery. If you hear people speak Japanese then you'll kind of hear them break sentences apart and deliver quite slowly, especially when speaking in public. I think he's just caught in the habit.

Toshi obviously doesn't really speak English or doesn't speak it often enough. They have to work on this. BTW, this sort of goes for all of the other members as well. Sugizo is OK because he is making a concentrated effort. But even Yoshiki's English is more like Engrish... After 10 years of living in LA there is no excuse for that. Yes he will always have an accent but there is an obvious lack of active vocabulary which will hamper their song writing in the long run.

LOL  It is kind of funny though because Japanese do have "R" but they don't have "L".
If he can pronounce words like ratsuko, ringo or even sakura, then he should be able pronounce the English "r" s too. Now I can see having a problem with the "rl" combos as in Ballroom. It most likely would come out as "ba-room"

I don't think that will hamper their song writing. Because before he lived in LA he made already very beautiful English songtexts!

I speak English fluently (it is my second language, I'm originally from Hungary) but I can't say Vaughan (as in the City of Vaughan) for the life of me! It sort of comes out as Waughan....  So, I can sympathise regarding the accent. It is more about the ease of speaking the language. English doesn't seem to come naturally to Yoshiki even after 10 years in the US. Maybe he does better with Spanish , after all he lives in LA... ;D

It's not really an "r". It's sort of a hybrid between l, r, and d. My teacher had us all try to pronounce it, and told us where to put our tongues in our mouths. (Weird, huh? He drew diagrams and everything.) He said it's most like the (American-) English word "party", where if you say it really fast it sort of makes a "par-dee" sound. That's the Japanese r. (I think it's similar to the Spanish rolling "r", too.) That, combined with the fact that almost all Japanese sounds end in a vowel make it very difficult for most Japanese people to even hear the difference. I think he did a pretty good job...

I can simply say that as far as concerts go, especially first ones, this one was good.  I didn't expect a perfect show, but I got a damned good one.  There were a few slip ups in Silent Jealousy, which I understand- I don't think I've ever heard Sugizo play that song- and I'm sure legality issues were there, not to mention an unfamiliar American sound crew... This was the first show.  Mistakes will be made and corrected.

I saw my favorite dudes rock out.  I heard the songs I wanted to hear.  Did I hear all the songs I wanted to hear?  Hell no, and the only reason why that is is because the simple fact they didn't play all of their songs in their library. =P

But I came, I got right up front, I got doused with water, I never stopped smiling, and I have Yoshiki's drum stick.  It was a definign night for me.

Random happenings from the show. All credit goes to Yoshikiart @ x-wonderland forum.
http://www.xwonderland.net/viewthread.php?tid=708&extra=&page=1 (http://www.xwonderland.net/viewthread.php?tid=708&extra=&page=1)

- Toshi MC: We've gained a lot, but we've lost a lot too. We've been f*ucked and we've been sucked.

- Pata keep on chewing something in his mouth during the whole concert.

- A jewelry design student made each Pata and Heath a necklace, Heath found out that the girl is in the front row, so he wants to pass/throw her a bottle of water which he took a drank out of near the end of the concert, but a tall guy behind her took it from her.

- Yoshiki asked for a staff for a bottle of water, the staff thought he wants water on his piano when he plays it, since that's what he did with his drums, so he poured a bottle of water on Yoshiki's crystal piano, Yoshiki smacked his hands aways, but it's too late. Yoshiki looked so angry! But he can't yell at the staff since they are performing. He asked Toshi for the mic "The pyrotechnic just f*ucked up my piano!" and started wiping the piano with a clothe himself. I bet the staff will get his punishment backstage after the show.

- People in the pit were actually not pushing. I heard from my friends who were at the floor level, people were pushing crazy! Trying to squeeze to the front every single second. One of my friend waited more than 10 years to see X live, instead of enjoying the concert, she spend the whole concert thinking why she has to suffer the pushing and squeezing, when is the concert going to end so she can get some air, etc. I know everyone is excited and wants to go as near as possible to the members, but pushing and elbowing people would only earn unhappy memories.

- Yoshiki MC (can't remember exactly but it should be close): LA is like my hometown, so I'm so happy to be able to play here. And of course, Tokyo too. My friends won't believe that I'm a musician. I told them I play the drums, and they're like "Right!". And I also play the piano. And I have a vocalist who I met when we were 4, and they're like "Right!".

- Originally, X got the permission to play hide's images at the show. However, hide's family called on the day right before the show asking them not to use any. SO that's the explanation why there was no hide videos.

- X planned to do two shows in a row in LA if the tickets sold out fast, however, tickets were selling slow, so that they didn't add another show. The tickets for Wiltern show was sold out on the day of the show.

Oh boy, I'm worried about the Roseland Ballroom concert now, since there aren't any seats. I don't want to be suffocated... I also don't want to lose track of my friends...

You'll be fine, just stay away from the very front. It's a small venue so you'll get a good view wherever you stand :)

I sort of want to stand there, though... I guess I'll see how long I last. I'll bring my elbows, haha.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UqKVnP54u28 JRR posted another video. Different angles, gives you a pretty good idea of what went down. Just get past the screaming in the beginning. =P

Look man, I'm not really complaining. I mean, there are pits, and then there are pits where people start tearing each other's clothes off and stabbing each other. I'm just hoping this leans more towards the non-lethal side...

My friend got a knife pulled on her at a Dir end Grey concert because she was in the 'coveted front row.'

I'll pass on the front front row bit, thanks.

I'm not trying to get to the front but if I happen to.. and someone pulled a knife? I'm not a violent person by any means.. but I'd make sure that person doesnt try that shit again with anyone. Thats fucking disgusting.

Holy crap, I was just talking about people with gratuitous spikes. I can't believe someone pulled a knife at a freaking Dir en grey show. The more I hear about those concerts, the happier I am that I never went to any.

Every concert isn't like that..  But it doesn't matter much where you're standing. I've been poked with fork and bitten many times. And I haven't been anywhere near the front row. But that's what happens if you happen to stand in front of crazy fangirls. But also I've been in the front row and nothing happened, even though there was 20000 people behind me.

According to some guy on youtube who was at the Wiltern concert:

"i forgot which song was it but yoshiki didnt get a tight grip on one of the drum stick and flew off.....sighhhh

it was also kinda funny when he tried to hit the giant cymbal and he kept hurting his fingers lol"

That's pretty stupid Yoshiki, better not do that again.

It's not the first time.  I noticed he did that recently as well.  I forget which one exactly now but it was either the Lalapalooza or Yokohama concerts.

When I saw him do it at the LA show, I couldn't believe it.
