Title: HELP Please: Typhoon Ondoy, Philippines
Post by: pinku_ on September 29, 2009, 05:02:14 AM
As most you know --- Philippines is my homeland.
I may not have lived there...
I may only be partial in race as a Filipino.
But I have to do this.

Accounts in the news look bad, but hearing from the real people out there...
6ft - 20ft of water in the whole city of Manila...
Depending on where you are... cannot even be an "OMFG"-ing matter.
And this is no exaggeration...
My house back there, the ground floor was fully submerged.
As for the people renting in our place...
I have no idea where they went.
And had there not been another floor in my cousin's place...
My relatives would have nowhere to go.

With that... and not to mention people who lived near the rivers...
Or places that are lower...

I believe you guys can more or less, picture how it was.

This was the first time in decades a flood like that happened again...
It was during 1960's (I heard) and it took 2 weeks to flood the whole city like that.
But this, this one... it happened overnight.

OVERNIGHT ---

For the whole day, Sunday --- the whole city was like swallowed by the sea.
People drowned, over 30,000 are in serious need of rescue, afloat on their washed away roof tops
Some are just swimming and waiting for help. Others, lost and washed away.

I can't express how I feel about this, but I didn't sleep easy for the past few days.
For those who know anyone who could help. Please do pass this note on.
Please ask other Filipinos in your country to help their countrymen
and their relatives back there.

PLEASE HELP SPREAD THE WORD --- let's do something about this.
