The summit-level session of the United Nations Security Council held on September 24
made me hopeful that perhaps the world can shift to an amazing new direction.

Nuclear disarmament, non-proliferation, a future without nuclear weapons…
for a long time, I’ve felt that Japan
 – the only country in the world that has been the victim of a nuclear bomb –
should lead the world towards abolishing nuclear weapons.
I’m entirely in favor of the five declarations that Prime Minister Hatoyama
presented at the United Nations General Assembly.
Regarding those dealing with disarmament and non-proliferation,
I was especially impressed by the lofty goal of dealing with climate change
and assistance for the Afghanistan issue.
I wasn’t necessarily a passionate supporter of the Democrats,
but right now I’m in favor of most of the declarations made by the new administration.
In the future, I hope that they can take these high ideals and turn them into reality.

Japan should be proud of its thoughts and intentions and share them with the world.
I think that the meaning and importance of Japan’s three antinuclear principles
and Article Nine of the constitution will only grow from here on out.
The chains of nuclear power and weapons gain strength endlessly,
and I strongly feel that the world must graduate from this fear.

In any case, I’m interested in the actions of the new administration and the world at large.

 JUNO REACTOR in TOKYO

I’m sure some of you already know about it,
but please allow me to promote JUNO REACTOR’s first gig to be held in Japan in two years!
It’s taking place next Sunday, October 11 at EBIS 303.
Our last Japanese show was actually the Fuji Rock Festival,
so it’s been three whole years since we’ve performed in Tokyo.

Over the past few years, JUNO has played all over Europe, America,
and a number of other countries.
The relationships between the members have deepened,
and our groove and the nuclear fusion we create on stage have grown stronger.
I can’t wait for you all to see the newest version of JUNO REACTOR!

We also have a long journey before us - in the last half of the year,
we’re going to tour India and Europe once again.
Being able to see the amazing band JUNO REACTOR in Tokyo
at such a perfect timing is a truly unique chance,
so I hope that you all come and experience our supreme, multinational, transcendental groove!

The web magazine "Musicjapanplus" also put up an article about this:

JUNO REACTOR will perform in Japan! The band hasn't performed in Japan for quite some time. Their last live performance was at the Fuji Rock Festival '07. It will also be their first time in 3 years to hold a concert in Tokyo. What unique performances have they in store for their Japanese fans?

SUGIZO was quick to urge fans to have a look! In his blog he wrote passionately about why everyone should go see the artists live. He called out to his fans, “The various selling points of the band, such as the teamwork between the members, their bubbling groove, and the ‘nuclear fusions' that could occur at any moment onstage, have all been strengthened. That has made the latest JUNO REACTOR the greatest JUNO REACTOR of all time. I guarantee they will put on a great show. This is the best moment and once in a life time chance to see the most powerful JUNO REACTOR. You just got to experience the greatest multinational ‘out-of-this-world' groove out there!”

Everyone head to Tokyo to see the band perform!

 The Berlin Wall

Today, the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, is a very special day.
I wonder if the world has truly gained hold of freedom since that historical event?

The world is full of chaos.
There are so many duties left to us – ones I don’t want to pass along to the next generation.
I think that my generation should work to settle the mistakes of the past as much as we can.
If we could, it would contribute to a peaceful future for all of the children out there.
After all, we are all connected to each other.

I’d like to refer to the wonderful words written on the Berlin Wall:
“Many small people, who in many small places, do many small things, can alter the face of the world.”

SGZ

Was the Berlin Wall a sign of communism or something?

After the Second World War Germany was divided in two parts, western and eastern Germany, by the winning forces of the war. East Germany got a communistic regime. Later the wall was built and divided Berlin, the former capital of Germany. 1989 the wall fell and Germany was reunited again as one country.

The two days of performances in Tokyo, followed by two days in Taipei, are finally over.
After coming back to Japan, I went immediately to Ashinoko Lake yesterday
and had a photo session from six in the morning.
On top of that, today and tomorrow are TD for the new song to be released in February.
I don’t know how much more of this my body can take... (>_<)

NEXT PHASE OF COSMIC DANCE was beset by all sorts of problems and troubles,
and it didn’t go exactly as I had planned,
but it was still great to be able to ascend to the heavens in both Tokyo and Taipei.
There are lots of problems that we have to resolve for next time,
and I plan to seriously take on these challenges.
And I also want to further evolve the many wonderful things that happened at the shows.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the fantastic musicians who participated, the staff,
all the people involved, and all the fans.
Everyone was beautiful, and I look forward to putting on an even more amazing performance together next time.

Ten hours after returning from Taipei,
I went to Ashinoko Lake for a photo session with a fantastic photographer who came from Singapore.
I was so sleep deprived that I felt like I might die,
and didn’t think I’d make it through the photography at the freezing cold lakeside (>_<).
But the photographs turned out wonderfully, and it was a lot of fun!
She’s a genius photographer, and I believe that she’ll be able to take her work to amazing places.
I’ll tell you more about it at some point in the future!

Today and tomorrow I’m doing TD on the new song to be released in February,
marking the last of my work for 2009!
The new song has a “new wave electro guitar rock” feel, and I’m sure it’s going to turn out great,
so I hope you’re looking forward to it!

On the 31st. 1st, and 2nd, I’m taking a brief break. Then on the 3rd, I head to LA to do some work with X JAPAN.
I’m going to stay there for quite a while,
and there are tons of things I have to do – so many that thinking of it makes me dizzy. (^_^;)
Somebody, please help me!

2010, the year I’ve been waiting for, is finally almost here.
I’m going to devote myself body and soul to my work next year as well,
and I’d like to say “thank you” once again to everyone.
I’m going to move forward at a blinding pace next year, and I hope you’re all there with me!

Happy Rockin' New Year!
I’ve been looking forward to 2010 for so long, and it’s finally here.
Unfortunately, we don’t yet have the technology to go to Jupiter, but I want to keep evolving full of hope for a shining future.
In any case, I’m sure that 2010 will have its difficulties as well, but I’m looking forward to spending it with all of you. m(_ _)m

Everybody has probably already heard, but I’ve been running on a crazy schedule since the beginning of the year, and I’m currently in LA.
Last week was an insanely busy one entirely devoted to shooting video with X JAPAN.
The final part involved an outdoor live performance in which we took over the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood.
All of the members were excited to be working together for the first time in half a year,
and our first show in the United States took place suddenly in that way.
I was really inspired by the power of the many fans that came from all over America,
and I poured my energy into what turned out to be a really fun event.
As usual, X JAPAN was surrounded by all sorts of strange happenings, and things almost blew up entirely. (^_^;)
But the relationship between the members is a great one, and I think that the footage for the music videos is of exemplary quality.

We continued performing for six hours, stretching ourselves to the limit,
and so my body is killing me and I can barely move…I’ve got all sorts of work and projects to take care of in the next week,
and if I don’t somehow make myself feel better, I’m not going to be able to survive this stormy year!
I truly believe that my body is an important asset.

Anyway, X JAPAN plans to proceed forward actively as a group, so I hope you keep an eye on us!

In the midst of all this, we’ve entered the second phase of my crazy monthly solo release rush,
and the single “FATIMA” will be digitally released on January 27.
I played this song as the NEXT PHASE OF COSMIC DANCE show, so there are many people who have already heard it.
It’s an electro piece that is part of the flow begun with “MESSIAH,” but it’s “guitar techno” with a more ambient approach.
If “MESSIAH” is male, then “FATIMA” is female. Where “MESSIAH” is flame, “FATIMA” is ice.
The two songs are entirely opposed to each other.
And among the “SUGIZO music” up until now,
I think that “FATIMA” is an important piece that is even more cosmic and transports the listener farther into the next dimension.
I also feel that it’s a “spiritual dance track” full of salvation
and love in which the intentions and purposes of another dimension flow directly through me.

On the surface “FATIMA” seems cool and feminine, but on the inside it blazes with an extremely hot flame.
It’s also perhaps the grooviest of my songs – a beautiful track that evokes images of the Virgin Mary.
This is the current incarnation of SUGIZO, in the year 2010, and I hope that you all can experience it.

Also being released at the same time as a sort of B-side is a new recording of “DO-FUNK DANCE,”
which is one of the most important parts of my live shows.
The intense artist Sine6 created this song in 2007, when it was included on my remix album “SPIRITUARISE.”
This time, I’ve re-recorded my guitar, Ruike’s trumpet, and Origa’s vocals. We also updated the rhythm track, making it even more intense.
Performing this song live awoke me to its potential and explosive power,
and I wanted to reply to that with a sound source version that leaves nothing out.
It’s a totally groovy, psychedelic, and heavy tune.
And I don’t want to brag, but I think it’s an amazing fusion of psychedelic trance, funk, and loud rock music,
as well as being one of the destinations that I have arrived at…although actually, it’s unclear whether such a hybrid has ever existed before.
I’m sure you’ll love it!

In any case, starting with these two songs,
I intend to push forward this year as well, and I hope that you’ll all be watching my journey in 2010.

PRANA

For the past week, I’ve been totally absorbed in songwriting.
In fact, I’ve barely set foot beyond my studio at all. But I did somehow manage to finish everything in time!

I also have an announcement: “PRANA,”
the third part of my insane project of digitally releasing a new solo single each month,
will be available to purchase on February 24. I’m going to release a song each month, so it’s going to be a wild ride.

“PRANA” is an electro piece in the spirit of recent musical trends, with an ultra-guitar rock, new wave, electro feeling.
It refers to the decadent atmosphere of the 1980’s, the era when much of my generation was baptized,
and also combines new wave, punk, and goth with my current style.
And since I went nuts playing the guitar, it’s also pure electro rock!

For this song, MACCHO and I went crazy setting off musical fireworks together,
and I feel like we were able to create an amazing chemical reaction.
“PRANA” personifies the degenerate sense of the 20th century and the transcendent sensation of the 21st century,
and might beckon you to ecstasy or to the heavens above.
It’s a hybrid tune composed of all the elements I possess, and the essence of the present. I really hope you all enjoy it.

In the midst of all these other things, I took part in recording a new song with TOSHI the other day.
There were all sorts of difficulties,
but his eyes are trained only on positive things and he is possessed of clarity and an unshakeable strength.
It was an amazingly fast recording session, but I think it turned out really well.
And TOSHI is truly an unbelievably talented vocalist! I take off my hat to him. I really respect you, TOSHI!

Next week will also be devoted to writing songs. I almost feel like I’m training to be a monk – I have no private life at all.
(^_^;) Still, I feel good, because I’m absorbed in what I’m doing.
And I look forward to meeting you all on February 24.

Hope to see you soon!

With Love,
SGZ

You know, Prana sounds like the fish piranha.

Yes!  Health care reform passed in America!
I’ve been in favor of reform from the beginning, and I’ve had great sympathy for President Obama,
so I’m really happy about what has happened.
Through this, American citizens other than the affluent should be able to take advantage of a new public health insurance system.
Of the forty-six million people who don’t have health care, thirty million will be able to break out of their predicament.
I think that is wonderful.
The opposition party and factions are crying out that public finances will have to bear most of the burden (which is a significant issue),
but isn’t ensuring the livelihoods of the citizens and people necessary for nation building and economic development?

Life and money…I can’t help but feel that we’re failing to evaluate the importance of what is most vital.
Up until now, only a handful of affluent people have been given favorable treatment,
and I cannot possibly sympathize with the American way of doing things in which the poor are excluded.
I truly hope that people become more tolerant of immigrants as well.
As someone who has many friends and relatives in America, I feel very close to these issues.

In any case, I’m looking forward to seeing what the Obama administration does from now on,
as well as for the ability to accomplish even more tangible things than before.

So Beautiful!!

I went to see a Bob Dylan concert.
It felt so luxurious to be able to see him play at Zepp Tokyo!

Dylan has an unbelievably strong presence - with a single word,
he’s able to control the entire atmosphere of the venue.
His amazing aura, depth, intelligence, persuasive power...all of it goes beyond what humans can do.
He’s sixty-nine this year, but has aged beautifully.
I truly admire Dylan along with David Bowie, both of who are in their sixties,
and respect him from the bottom of my heart as well.

Lately, I’m no longer afraid of getting older.
As I age, I gain greater depth, skill, intelligence, sharpness, and accuracy.
At the same time, there’s really nothing to lose.
I’ve come to look forward to entering my fifties and sixties while looking up to the wonderful people
who have gone before me like Dylan and Bowie.

Let’s all grow older and more beautiful together!

 Dear SPIRITUAL LIFE

I have an announcement to make.
The fourth entry in my crazy monthly release series, entitled “Dear SPIRITUAL LIFE,” goes on sale March 31.
For the past few months I’ve been creating upbeat songs and trying all sorts of new things,
so this single a bit of a break for me, a chance to catch my breath.

This song was originally a “dubby” remix that I made for my remix album “SPIRITUARISE” that was released in 2007.
I wanted to take apart and reconstruct what was originally a ballad-esque song with a 6/8 beat,
giving new life to it as first-rate SUGIZO-style chill-out music.
The 2010 version features an all-out acoustic guitar solo, which comprises the foundation of the track.

When I created this song, I was inspired by the chilled out, ambient, blissful atmosphere of Ibiza.
But I realized that I had gone beyond that and referenced the seashores of a parallel universe and other solar systems,
like a scene on the beach of a planet in the Pleiades.
The song has a psychedelic feeling that doesn’t exist on Earth,
a sensation of utter joy embraced by the sun and ocean of a parallel universe that shimmers in brilliant colors,
and an aura given off by an improvised guitar that swims freely through this landscape.
I would really like you to experience the bewitching, high-quality trippy feeling of these images.
It might even make you remember an important light that you knew well a long time ago...
This song is quite a departure from the amazing tension of the five songs released over the past few months,
and I would be honored if you enjoyed its chill-out atmosphere.

This month’s release marks yet another giant step forward for the “SUGIZO Music” of the future,
and I hope that you enjoy its depth and sensuality.

With Love,

SGZ

 From LONDON with LOVE

I’m currently in London for an important task.
I’ve visited Brighton many times over the last few years,
but this is the first time in quite a while that I’ve been able to enjoy a relaxing stay.
London was truly my second home in the 90’s,
but this is actually my first stay here in over eight years.
There are so many nostalgic places that make me shed tears.
And unlike Japan and Asia, the weather in the UK is really cool and pleasant.
It feels like the scorching heat of Japan can’t be real...

Before coming here, I went to Hong Kong.
I’m sure most of you already know this,
but we held the LUNA SEA REBOOT press conference there.
We wanted to tell the whole world about our rebirth at the place where,
ten years ago, we announced that we were “drawing the curtain.”
We also wanted to share how we feel.
After long individual journeys,
the five of us have returned and our paths have begun to cross once again.
From now until the end of the year, I want to devote all of my energy to LUNA SEA.
The future is full of unknown elements, but I want to live with the full potential of this second.
And I also want to showcase our energy in Europe, America, and Asia.
I want to ascend to the heavens together as one in each of the countries we visit,
and I hope that you’re all looking forward to our future activities!

But before that, X JAPAN’s North American tour is waiting at the end of this month.
We mostly finished recording our new song
after I came back from Hong Kong and before I headed to London.
We’re still dragged down by all sorts of problems,
but I really feel like we’re also ascending higher.
I look forward to giving my all to X JAPAN until our tour is done,
and I think it’s a wonderful thing to be able to share the energy of all our fans in North America.
It's really exciting just to imagine what sort of moving experiences are waiting for us this time.

I’m right in the middle of a totally insane schedule,
but I feel like I’m somehow able to live on thanks to the support of music.
I am sort of exhausted, though. But I do feel like my life is a miraculous thing,
and I plan to keep on running forward throughout the latter half of 2010!

From LONDON with LOVE

I'm sure now is the time for Japan to shift everything after the war.

We should show our new and evolved attitude to the world

and take the lead.

In many volunteer message I got

I fould something like this.

"I really wish to join but it's not possible because I'm pregnantt now."

"It's not possible because I have small child and am busy for taking care of them."

"I wish to join but I'm still a student of primary high school."

First of all, I would like you to know.

The important thing is acting at your own pace, also with all your strength.

We all have our own role.

Of course, if you are pregnant, you should give highest priority to

your own health and the baby in your body.

If you have small child, you should give highest priority to taking care of them.

You should try your best for your most important thing.

Of course helping revival is important.

However, at the same time, new life, the growth and safety

of children are also important.

If you are student, you should use your energy for your studies.

Something like these are most important you should do right now.

You should perform your duty.

So please don't feel guilty if it's difficult for you to support our revival difectly.

Because you all are working for important thing for our society.

Your positive emotion will be delivered to our society.

Anyway, we all have our own important role, meaning.

Performing them with all our best is important and meaningful for our society.

This is the way for us to contribute to our society.

Please don't forget.

And let's keep connecting to each other from now on.

For our future.

From Paris with Love
I'm currently in Paris.

We finished X JAPAN's first show in London, which is part of our European tour.

It was also my first performance in London in three years,

after my most recent performance there with JUNO.

I can't even calculate how much I've been influenced by the UK scene,

and I've visited many times,

so it was really wonderful to have our first performance on the first day of our European tour there.

The London fans that have been waiting for us for so long were very powerful,

and I think the show turned out to be pretty fantastic for the first day.

Of course many unexpected things happened, but it was still a really moving experience.

We performed at the Shepherds Bush Empire, which is a theater with a great deal of history.

All sorts of famous British artists have stood on its stage, and I went to see Björk there in 1997,

so playing there was really inspiring.

Yesterday we appeared all day at Japan Expo in Paris.

We completed various interviews, photo shoots, and "talk lives," and will be performing tonight.

I've looked up to and been influenced by the French culture for a very long time,

so I intend to devote my entire power to our show here in its central city of Paris!

From Berlin with Love
I'm currently in Berlin,

having arrived here today after finishing our shows in Paris and Utrecht.

I've performed in Paris (a city I admire greatly) with JUNO in the past,  so the recent show was my second performance there. And as you know, X JAPAN's show in Paris was the realization of a long-held dream. The audience was made up of around 7,000 people, and their transcendent heat was truly wonderful and magnificent. The passion of the Parisian fans – who have waited for us for a very long time – was extremely affecting. I've personally been very influenced by French culture from the 50s and 60s, including Godard and Gainsbourg, so this particular concert was especially moving for me.

Given the tone of the subculture in the past, it was inconceivable that Japanese rock musicians like us would become so appreciated in France and Europe. This inspires my desire to express myself and seek for the truth, and is also quite moving. I would like to share my heartfelt love and gratitude with all of our wonderful fans in Paris.

After Paris we continued on to Utrecht in the Netherlands. We played in a small concert hall-type building, which was so tiny that it was unthinkable X JAPAN would perform there. For that reason it was definitely a very rare type of show! The concert had a capacity of around 1,000 people, and there's no way X JAPAN has played a show like for over 20 years since they were an Indies band.

Just like our performance in London, the stage was extremely small. For that reason the string instrument group couldn't sit on the risers and had to stand up during "Endless Rain," which was both somehow fresh and also difficult because we weren't used to doing it that way. The audience members in Utrecht were really excited at being able to see X JAPAN up close, and the night was both amazingly punkish and hardcore. I feel the greatest love and gratitude for the excitement of all our fans in the Netherlands as well! This tour was really about getting back to basics, and I think the band's potential and unity became very strong.

After our show in Berlin tomorrow, our European tour will be over and I will return to Japan. Our new song "JADE" will become available to download in Japan this month. With Summer Sonic in August, our South American tour in September, and our album, X JAPAN is going to keep on going at full power throughout 2011!

translation of the message SUGIZO
to taiji

Five days have already gone by since TAIJI passed away.

I still haven't processed it...I'm bewildered by this sudden parting that nobody expected,

and also incredibly sad.

TAIJI was an overwhelmingly talented player who was the highest grade of musician.

I respected his transcendent groove from the bottom of my heart.

Losing him is a heavy blow to the Japanese rock scene,

since he was a genius bassist that Japan could be proud of.

In recent years TAIJI had been constantly struggling with illness,

and his life was certainly not easy.

Yet he was always very humble, and he never lost his passion for music.

When we stood together on stage at Nissan Stadium last year,

his groove and presence were truly amazing.

This parting came too fast, and I still haven't come to terms with it.

But there is one thing I can say,

as my friends keep departing on their journeys for the other side

and now that so many people have lost their lives in the earthquake:

those of us who are still living should feel heartfelt gratitude for our lives.

Those of us who are still living must not waste the lives we have left.

I would also like to say to everyone that I want them to keep living on...

to be thankful for everything, including their life, family, and friends.

Your life does not just belong to you; people love you and need you.

People should live their lives while feeling in their hearts the reason for and miracle of being alive.

And people should absolutely not take their own lives,

since there are many people who love them and are always together with them.

TAIJI was loved and needed by many people, yet he took his own life.

This is a very sorrowful thing.

From the bottom of my heart,

I pray that TAIJI – who was a masterful musician and fantastic rocker – will rest in peace

and find happiness in the next world.

Rest in Peace & Fly Away..... My Friends,

SUGIZO post this on your facebook

South American Tour 南米ツアー

It's already September. Time flies so fast.

It's about 10 years after that detestable day…

Though the world has been changing dramatically,

unfortunately it still takes so long until the evolution for peace...

SGZ is now staying in Chile

for X JAPAN South American Tour about to start.

Since here is the other side of the earth from Japan,

it is winter now. So cold.

After 2 days rehearsal, the show will start here.

It is first time for me to come to South America…

Excited-.

Especially since I am a big fan of Bossa Nova,

Brazil is the country I've been longing for.

Besides, I've been so much interested in Inca and Machu Picchu.

I am so happy to visit Peru.

However, more than everything, I've been longing for meeting you,

everyone in South America… my dream will come true over years.

So happy…

I will show you the best performance with all my strength.

Please forgive me for not being in contact with everyone for more than two weeks!

I returned from South America via L.A.,

and then once again began recording work for my album without taking even a moment to rest.

Recently I’ve been involved in the climax of TD work, so I had absolutely no time or mental leeway to write.

But as of last night, I have made it nearly to the final round of this crazy lifestyle.

All that’s left is to mix one last song that hasn’t been done yet,

to put the final touches on several songs, and to finish mastering.

As I’ve already told the people in my fan club, my new album will be released on December 7.

Since it was utterly impossible to include my vast number of songs and ideas on one disk,

I will be releasing two new CDs at the same time.

I’ve continued releasing my work for a long period of time –

including soundtracks, remixes, best albums, and many digital singles –

but it’s actually been some time since I’ve released a “pure” original solo album like this one.

The album is a collection of all my “SUGIZO Music” up until now, and has a high degree of density.

I hope you’re looking forward to it, and I’ll write about the details later.

From now on I’m going to put aside the final work for my album and plunge into full-on LUNA SEA mode.

It’s been around 10 months since LUNA SEA’s last concert,

and this show is a vitally important one that is the realization of our desires and hopes.

Starting today we’re going to begin working with great concentration in order

to devote our full power to this concert.

Let’s meet at Saitama Super Arena!

Seven months have passed since that day,

and these activities are an important part of helping with reconstruction.

Let’s all have pride and hope as we create a fantastic night together.

X JAPAN ASIA TOUR

I’m currently in Hong Kong as part of our Asian tour.

We finished our crazy shows in Seoul, Korea (amazingly, it was actually my first visit there)

and Shanghai, where I hadn’t been for 12 years.

Unfortunately, our concert in Beijing was suddenly cancelled,

so I spent the few days that should have been dedicated to that show in Shanghai.

Then I arrived in Hong Kong – which I haven’t visited for about a year or so – yesterday.

It was my first time in Seoul, and the power of the town and the fans there was truly amazing.

It left a sophisticated impression in a variety of ways,

and I strongly felt that progress was taking place in an intense, vigorous way.

We suddenly played in a like this venue about the size of the Budokan.

I really do like places that hold between 10,000 and 20,000 people,

like the venues on our Asian tour and the arena in Saitama we played at recently.

It’s just the right size – it’s not too big, we can really draw people in,

and it feels like a concert hall.

I think that I’ll be able to play with a fantastic feeling on this tour.

The show with the fans in Seoul, a brand new place for me,

was a fantastic night as the first step on our journey throughout Asia.

I’d like to express my heartfelt gratitude and love to all of the Korean fans who waited for us!

I visited Shanghai in 1999 with LUNA SEA as part of our first Asian tour.

Back then there weren’t many skyscrapers, and the town seemed like it was in the midst of developing.

Twelve years have passed since that time, and Shanghai has evolved in an astounding way.

Right now, everywhere you go is fascinating. Unlike 12 years ago, many fans were waiting for us.

The entire scenery was different, including the state of the town and the way it felt.

The power of the Chinese fans was as strong as I had expected, and the show was a truly crazy one.

As always, the public security there is really strict and I had complicated feelings in a variety of ways;

for example, the delicate relationships between nations, the economy, and environmental destruction…

There are lots of different problems that need to be solved.

However, our relationship – which is bound together through music and culture –

has nothing to do with differences related to national boundaries, race, religion, or culture.

In fact, it makes these differences seem beautiful, and we can become one together.

I deeply felt that I would like to keep going around the world in the future while placing importance on this feeling.

The Hong Kong show is next, followed by the show in Taiwan.

Both of these places feel like my second hometown, and I intend to give everything to my performances.

Also, I pray that the situation in Bangkok will be resolved as soon as possible,

and for the well being and safety of all the people who are suffering there.

We haven’t given up, and are praying that we can hold our concert as planned.

In any case, X JAPAN’s Asian tour has been a series of trials. Still,

I’m going to give my everything to it until the very end.

SGZ Tour 2011 STAIRWAY to The FLOWER OF LIFE

X JAPAN’s Asian tour wrapped up around 20 days ago,

which was the end of our tours for this year.

All of our shows were fantastic, including the ones in Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Bangkok

(where we managed to successfully overcome the flood disaster to hold our concert).

During the last part of the show in Bangkok, I got too wrapped up in the moment,

fell from the stage, and bruised my entire body.

For that reason my entire body hurt up until a week ago…

Despite that, I’ve been extremely busy for some time now in a hell (heaven?) of album promotion

and various types of studio work.

Today I’m going to write about my solo tour that will take place next month.

It’s called “STAIRWAY to The FLOWER OF LIFE”

and is my first solo tour as SUGIZO in almost two years.

In honor of my new album (which I’ll write plenty about next month)

I’m going to begin with a show on December 13 at Shimokitazawa Garden for fan club members only,

followed by shows in Taiwan (December 15), Hong Kong (December 17),

Osaka (December 20), and Tokyo (December 22).

http://www.backstage.co.jp/artist/index.php?id=22

http://www.puffinent.net/

For this tour, the shows in Osaka and Tokyo will have an intense lineup of members based on the

“COSMIC DANCE ORCHESTRA” format of the past.

The lineup of members for this tour is the strongest ever:

Origa on vocals, Takumi Samejima on guitar, TOKIE on bass,

Shinpei Ruikei on trumpet, and Kenji Yoshiura on percussion.

My pal d-kiku will serve as programmer,

and this time we will also welcome Motokatsu Miyagami of THE MAD CAPSULE MARKETS on drums

in addition to our regular members.

I plan to use our past format (electro, trance, dub, ambient, loud, and improvisation styles),

and new songs will make up the majority of these crazy and amazing psychedelic electro rock shows.

In Taiwan and Hong Kong we will further refine the above lineup and appear under the name

“COSMIC DANCE QUINTET.”

The shows should be both danceable and totally strong,

and I look forward to becoming one with everyone in Asia.

I hope you all come to see my shows to fully experience sensuality, ecstasy,

a sense of breaking free from your ordinary life, and unity with the Earth and universe through music.

I also want to provide an even more emotionally moving type of ascension to the people

who have participated several times in the past,

and a brand new type of sensuality to people who have never experienced it.

My hope is to have everyone experience my “SUGIZO Music” in a more real way at concerts

they can feel with their entire body.

While I’m writing this, I’m actually staying in Brighton (the UK) for recording with Juno Reactor.

Before my eyes is the back of Ben Watkins, who is skillfully editing the many guitar tracks I just played.

I’m so busy that I don’t know where my world is, and feel like I’m losing my self-awareness…

I’ll be in the UK, in an explosion of creativity, until the beginning of next month.

I’m going to devote myself to recording,

but I also hope I can fully experience the wonderful air and scenery here.

With love from Brighton,

題して「STAIRWAY to The FLOWER OF LIFE」。

新しいアルバムを引っさげて(アルバムについては来月にドップリ書くね)、

12/13の下北沢GARDENでのファンクラブ限定GIGを皮切りに

12/15台湾、12/17香港、12/20大阪、12/22東京とを回ります。

http://www.backstage.co.jp/artist/index.php?id=22

http://www.puffinent.net/

COSMIC DANCE QUINTET

From Tokyo with Love
Seventy years have passed since the attack
on Pearl Harbor and the beginning of the Pacific War.

This year – in which we experienced an unprecedented and massive disaster –
I am reflecting even more on beauty, gratitude, and the preciousness of life.

As humans, we have no choice in the future
but to co-exist with and be impacted by the power of nature, without working to oppose it.
However, we should certainly be able to use our will to move past murder
and wars between people.

We must never wage war again.
From the bottom of my heart,
I truly hope that a time comes in which the countries of the world can overcome issues of territory,
religion, and ideology to choose a peaceful path.

Right at this moment, people are living in the midst of war and destruction.
Yet all we can do is pray.

I hope that the world will someday be capable of mutual understanding.

Very Merry X’mas!
http://www.sugizo.com/will/?p=671&utm_source

My performance at Zepp Tokyo

– the last day of my STAIRWAY to The FLOWER OF LIFE tour and my last concert of 2011 –

was completed on December 22.

Thanks to everyone, it turned out to be a wonderful show!

There were all sorts of problems and plenty of things didn’t turn out how I wanted them to,

but I think we definitely managed to overcome these things and create a fantastic,

intense feeling.

I would like to express my heartfelt, deepest love and gratitude to the amazing members,

the amazing crew, and all the amazing audience who came to the venue,

and all the people in Japan and throughout the world who participated via Niko Niko Douga and Ustream.

Thank you so much!

This tour made it possible to truly believe in and experience the possibility of creating futures

and the wonderful qualities of music,

which can transcend various types of ideas, in a real way.

The situation is still a severe one and it’s difficult to carry things out in an easy way,

but I want to continue these activities – which I think of as my life’s work– without giving up next year

and in the future as well.

I also want to join together even more, to ascend to the Heavens,

to be together amidst this amazingly sensual groove.

This year is also the first Christmas since the earthquake.

On this holy day I can’t help praying from the bottom of my heart

that the people in the affected areas will be able to spend a warm, peaceful night.

I also want to devote myself to doing what I can to ensure that day comes as soon as possible.

In addition, I’d like to offer a heartfelt prayer for equality, happiness, and warmth to all people:

affluent people, people who are struggling to live,

people living in peace, people who are forced to be on battlefields,

people with freedom, people who are ruled and controlled,

strong people, weak people,

safe people, disaster victims,

people living in their own homes, and people living in temporary housing...

Very Merry X'mas My Dear...

Days immersed in music 音楽漬けの日々
Over the past crazy few weeks, I’ve been even more wrapped up in music than usual.

As you already know,

I’ve been working on three important projects at the same time since the beginning of the year:

LUNA SEA’s new single to be released in March,

the video from the earthquake charity concert we held at Saitama Super Arena in October 2011,

and writing music for the play "7DOORS."

It’s been a really crazy period of time, but I’ve felt very fulfilled since I’m totally immersed in music.

Still, my body continues crying out in protest...

We’ve finally nearly completed two important pieces of work for LUNA SEA.

Our first single in 12 years is an explosive,

large song that lasts over 22 minutes and overflows with the current creativity of the five members.

That’s how much space we needed to fully express our current potential.

I’ll write in more detail about the single later,

but I wanted to say right now that LUNA SEA’s most intense, wonderful music is being born now.

It features a fusion of the spirituality of all five members, with the highest density ever.

The song seems to beckon you with an impossible, unknown, intense power.

It is amazingly natural and smooth, as if this music has existed since the very beginning.

Since it expresses the truth of LUNA SEA right now without any exaggerations,

I really hope you’re looking forward to it.

The editing and TD work on "A Promise to The Brave" is close to being finished successfully as well.

I think we were able to create a video that preserves every detail of the sense of that day,

which overflowed with positive, wonderful energy and resembled the giving of hope and light for the future.

Without question it was a truly rare concert;

it was one of our best shows in which we were able to realize superb quality

and the greatest sense of unity up until now.

The proceeds from this piece of work will also be donated to supporting reconstruction.

Even though it’s several months old now,

I hope that you view this video to experience the current form of LS.

Starting from today I’m concentrating on work for "7DOORS" once again.

This play – which portrays a very deep, aesthetic,

unfathomable world while completely expressing the greatest depths of human psychology and emotions –

has begun to inspire some beautiful, insane music.

It is a new interpretation of the only opera written by Bartók, who I have loved since I was a child.

This project feels comfortable while also involving great pressure, and is a great honor as well.

In any case I am wrapped up in my work while giving myself up to the inspiration that pours down from above

and wells up from within me.

There’s only a certain amount of time, so the question is how far I can go before time runs out.

I plan to fully concentrate on this play for the next several weeks.

I’ll let you know what’s going on again soon!

We will never forget this day.

Let us create the future full of true happiness, relief and brightness

beyond this hurt, pain and grief.

Now we are at the biggest crossroad.

The door to a new dimention and concept is about to open.

We should choose how our idea is

for new generations who will lead a new world.

Thank you sincerely, all people around the world.

We are connected so strongly.

We will never forget this day.

7DOORS ~Bluebeard's Castle~
Many people already know this,

but the play “7DOORS ~Bluebeard's Castle~” starts from today (March 16).

I am the musical director for this play and am also performing in it for the first time.

Since 2012 began I’ve been constantly immersed in composing the music for this play

at the same time we’ve been working on LUNA SEA’s new single.

It is a new interpretation of an old European fable,

which was made famous by the only opera written by Bartók (who I have loved since I was a child).

It is produced by Katsuhide Suzuki and depicts a condensed version of his universe and philosophy. “7DOORS~Aohigeko no Shiro” is degenerate, deep, crazy, and beautiful.

The original theme of “seven doors” is synched with the Christian concept of the Seven Deadly Sins

to express the emotions, desires, virtues, and vices that all humans possess.

It seems like a type of warning or purification,

and I think this theatrical performance has become a very rare and unique piece of work in the best way.

It is a wonderful production that conveys the worldviews and concepts of Katsuhide Suzuki.

This play stars Natsuki Mizu,

a former top performer of male roles from the Snow Troupe of the Takarazuka Revue.

Her bearing, aura, beauty, and persuasive power are all what could be expected of such a true star.

I truly respect her – she is a true professional as shown by her attitude of dedicating

her whole soul to her work as well as her overwhelming passion and shrewd discernment.

The seven veteran actors are also all wonderful performers,

and they taught me various types of intuition in a range of different ways.

All of the actors are profound and beautiful;

I made great efforts and demonstrated my potential as much as possible while surrounded by a fantastic cast

and staff. Of course, I always devote my entire power to everything I do…

I’ve been a huge fan of Bartók since I was a child,

so it was both frightening and a true honor to be involved with the sounds and works he created.

While paying him the highest respect I attempted to create music for this play through methods

that were the most suitable for my style.

Based on ambient compositions that resemble work by Brian Eno and David Sylvian,

I also made free use of modern and contemporary musical approaches from the eras after Bartók.

The result is simultaneously acoustic, ethnic, and religious music.

Although this music is fairly different from the image of my usual “SUGIZO Music,”

I am confident that it still has a SUGIZO-esque style.

I also used and reconstructed motifs from a certain song on my first album to create a song

that occupies a very important place in the play.

This exciting song inspires involuntary emotion together with experiences of music,

passing time, and the cycle of death and rebirth.

If you are a devoted fan – and certainly if you are a member of SOUL’S MATE

– I’m sure you will take notice of this piece of trivia.

I play a lord who doesn’t appear for a very long time in the play.

But because he rules the entire castle, and through the music that expresses these things,

I think he has a fairly strong presence through the entire performance.

The words spoken by Judith, the heroine who enters the labyrinth,

and the butler, who serves as the narrator, are beautiful, deeply meaningful, poetic, and cruel.

The theme is a personification of human desires and sins, from which it is hard for anyone to escape.

This concept is very deep and also important for everybody to learn about.

In any case this play is becoming a wonderful piece of work, so I hope that SUGIZO fans, Takarazuka fans,

and people who are fans of neither will come to see and experience it.

When you do so, please “feel” the play while giving yourself up to its inspiration.

New doors will definitely be opened.

The stage of 7DOORS over 3 weeks.

We finally came to an end successfully.

Everyone who came and watched us,

Thank you so much.

Everyone who couldn't come but send power to us,

Thank you so much.

It's over 1 and a half month including a rehearsal.

2 and a half month including composing.

I tried my best with all my strength.

Although I can write my feeling as much I like,

in a word… it was just awesome experience.

It was the compilation of our passion and creativity

with awesome casts and awesome staffs.

Awesome stage work.

Thank you so much…

And… exhausted…

I take a little rest.

After then, I will start producing the soundtrack of this work.

The DAY of 69

How is everybody doing?

I haven’t written here in quite some time – I think more than a month has passed.

All sorts of things have happened during this period of time.

The latter half of April was taken up by recording, so I was holed up in the studio as usual.

I saw Ryuichi perform in the play “Ginga Eiyu Densetsu,”

attended the Nagoya and Tokyo shows of DEAD END (a band I really respect),

and went to my first GLAY show in a long time at the Budokan.

I also took part in a ton of photo shoots and meetings,

held SOUL’S MATE DAY (the fan club members-only event that is a place of true relaxation for me),

and immersed myself in Russian music at La Folle Journée.

There was also the 14th anniversary of the day my “older brother” departed on his journey...

During Golden Week I went to Ishinomaki, Ogatsu, and Onagawa

– the areas affected by the disaster – for the first time in a long time.

I experienced heartfelt salvation due to the true warmth of the local residents that I hadn’t seen in one year,

as well as by watching them living with great earnestness.

The old woman who said she was happy with just “chopsticks and a bowl” has re-opened her cafe in a new location,

and our reunion was quite touching.

There was a truly wonderful type of energy for moving forward

– even in small increments – such as the new market that was started in Onagawa,

as well as the small charity items made from famous local products.

Still, at the same time there are houses that have not yet been disassembled more than one year later,

perhaps because the owners have not yet returned.

There is a vast amount of rubble lying in piles waiting forever to be dealt with in turn,

as well as areas that have become ruined towns about which nothing can be done.

Furthermore, Okawa Elementary School is still experiencing very sad circumstances.

There are still many situations that are much too painful to see, and I was at a loss for words.

How long will it take before the functions of the Japanese government start to work?

I also feel doubt about the way people have responded to the issue of receiving rubble.

Why can’t the entire country join together even more to move forward and promote reconstruction?

In the future as well, I feel that I must take actions

and search for approaches towards this end both as an artist and as one individual.

After returning from the affected areas I began composing songs for my next important project,

spending several more weeks confined in the studio in a continual struggle with inspiration.

While I was doing so, the 20th anniversary of our debut took place on May 21.

Even 20 years later, it seems like my creativity is more constantly explosive than before,

and I am repeatedly beset by inspiration and the desire to express myself.

My various projects are moving forward rapidly, and it doesn’t seem like I’ll be able to relax yet.

Even though I feel a heartfelt desire for a lifestyle with more ease,

I am truly grateful for my current situation that is so filled with music.

I’m also grateful for the people who are walking at my side.

I wanted to feel released from the feelings of stress and oppression that have not stopped for several months,

so I fled overseas for about one week to relax.

During this brief period of relief I received more images and ideas, and I felt charged with new energy.

In addition, LUNA SEA’s new actions began on May 29.

What sort of future is waiting? A very important person also passed away the other day.

In this era I hope to live with my full power so that I feel no regrets no matter what happens,

even if everything ended tomorrow.

I kindly ask for your support in the future as well.

43th

I’ve received many messages from everybody in honor of today

– thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I am now 43 years old.

Now that I’ve come this far I no longer have a feeling of disbelief,

and becoming older feels very comfortable.

On one hand,

thinking that I’ve lived 43 years makes me feel like this is a long period of time.

But considering that the earth has gone around the sun only 43 times,

it also feels very short…

I’ve written this many times in the past, but it is exactly how I feel.

I am also full of gratitude to the parents who brought me into this world.

No matter how old I get, I want to always be a dazzling challenger.

I want to become the type of rocking “old man” that I admire,

and I kindly ask for your support in the future as well!

Right now, I’m as always incredibly busy with work for Wowow for LUNA SEA,

my solo DVD, new songs, and more.

I’ll be on the attack in the second half of 2012,

and I hope you will spend the rest of this year of ascension with me!

With LOVE,

SGZ

FINAL OF THE MESSIAH Remix by SYSTEM 7

How is everybody doing? It’s still really hot.

It’s less like late summer heat and more like midsummer.

Over the past few years the seasons have been utterly out of alignment…

Today, I have an announcement to make.

I’m going to be moving at a furious pace over the next month or so.

As you know, I released “FINAL OF THE MESSIAH Remix by SYSTEM 7,”

my first digital single in about a year, on August 29.

It’s being promoted in a big way on places like Facebook and BARKS,

so I bet many people have already listened to it.

As you know, this single was remixed by System 7, the leaders of the techno world in the UK.

“MESSIAH” has evolved into an intense dance track.

In it, my guitar roars violently and become intertwined with their groove.

The fantastic twin guitars played by myself and Steve Hillage, a guitarist I really respect,

raise this composition to new levels and guide it to a world of ecstasy.

It features a cosmic sensuality and an explosive rock attitude,

so I hope you will all listen to it!

Furthermore, a miraculous joint tour with System 7 and myself will take place on September 16

in Osaka and September 21 in Tokyo.

I’ve been a fan of System 7 for a really long time, so to me this is like a dream.

I am sure we will create a psychedelic art space that is totally cosmic and blissful.

For the show, my band will be the COSMIC DANCE QUARTET

composed of guitarist Takumi, drummer MOTOKATSU, d-kiku, and myself.

It will be an ecstasy of hardcore, danceable, psychedelic groove.

It’s definitely going to be a fantastic party together with other wonderful artists,

such as UNI, the leader of the Japanese trance world who is an important musical partner of mine,

DJ YUMMY, who is fantastically glamorous, Miss MELERA, in her first visit to Japan from Amsterdam, KOTARO, a fantastic creator and DJ who is my dear friend,

and ZAKROCK, who serves an important role in the visuals for my work.

I hope you all participate – you’ll definitely have a joyful experience in a blissful place!

My official Facebook and mixi pages are full of videos, information, and interviews.

I also started an official YouTube account!

I hope to interact with you in all sorts of venues, so I hope you’ll come and visit.

SUPER LOVE 2012 feat. COLDFEET

I have an announcement to make.
After “FINAL OF THE MESSIAH,” a new digital single entitled “SUPER LOVE 2012”
– which is a collaboration with my friends, the members of COLDFEET –
is available to download as of September 11.
“SUPER LOVE” is a funky tune that I released in 2002 under the name “SUGIZO & THE SPANK YOUR JUICE.”
I wanted sublimate it into a current SUGIZO-esque electro song,
as well as revive it as a glamorous female vocal track.

I wanted to attempt something different from the cosmic, psychedelic, dark directions
I’ve been exploring in recent years.
I also wanted to try incorporating a soul- and funk-like sensation that is overflowing
with light into my own techno format.
For that reason I asked COLDFEET, a fantastic duo that I’ve shared mutual respect with for 15 years now,
to jointly produce this song.
In this way we created an amazing hybrid house tune that fuses the various elements of house music;
it’s like a deep house style.
Our collaboration, affinity, and chemistry were even more fantastic than I had imagined
– just as you might expect of COLDFEET!
The song is groovy, soulful, funky, and jazzy.
My guitar cries out, creating a rocking feel that entwines with the delicate, psychedelic sensation.
Lori’s beautiful voice flutters about, creating a sensual, pop-like, brand new type of SUGIZO Music.
I hope you will all listen to it!

In the future I hope to keep focusing on cosmic, hard, psychedelic, spiritual electronic music.
At the same time, I intend to use this series that features female vocalists
as a way to explore a worldview that is sensual, soulful, and suffused with light
– for which “SUPER LOVE 2012” serves as the starting point.
I want to broaden the world of SUGIZO Music,
just like the pull of gravity between opposing elements such as the moon and the sun,
or between darkness and light.

I hope you’re all looking forward to my musical journey in the future as well,
so please make sure to check out “SUPER LOVE 2012,” my newest work!

1213

Today is the 48th birthday of my “big brother.”

I bet he’s drinking like crazy in the other world,

while rocking out just like a kid dumping out the toys from a fantastic toy box.

It’s remarkable that LUNA SEA is on its first nationwide tour in 12 years at this timing.

I wish he could have seen how we are right now.

I’m sure he would have been really excited and had a wonderful time.

I also suspect he would have cracked up when he saw how I injured both of my legs,

saying, “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Furthermore, I bet he would have loved the new version of LUNA SEA as shown on the new single

we released yesterday that is comprised of two A-sides – “The End of the Dream” and “Rouge.”

After all, I’m confident that these amazing, crazy,

upbeat tunes are condensed versions of our unique qualities (did you all like them?).

We’ve overcome a series of stormy circumstances to arrive at a new point,

from which we will walk forward into the future.

Furthermore, we have a groove and attitude that has evolved from those of the past.

The shows in Osaka, Nagoya, Fukuoka, and Sapporo as part of our first “standing tour”

in quite some time were truly fantastic.

We were blissfully happy, and we were also able to experience once again the strong bonds

we share with our fans who have been waiting for us for many years,

as well as our new fans who came to see us for the first time.

All that’s left is the three days of performances at Zepp Tokyo,

our Christmas show at Osaka-Jo Hall, and our concert to support reconstruction at Sendai Sunplaza.

I’m going to devote all of my energy to LUNA SEA’s last spurt in 2012

(although my legs aren’t yet in the condition to be doing much running ^_^;).

I look forward to ascending to the heavens with hide and everyone else, too.

But before that, it’s time to vote!

Have you already decided who you’re going to choose?

Each party has things I agree with and things I must protest against,

so this election is a really difficult one…

I already took part in early voting, and I hope you’ll all vote before coming to Zepp Tokyo!

I pray that the world will be filled with light.
