Title: bands/musicians you HAVE to see in concert before you die
Post by: ferret on April 03, 2008, 12:54:29 PM
Not meant like "X is great, SEE THEM!" but as in "I must see them before I bite the dust, I just HAVE TO".

Fortunately, I've already been to a concert of my favourite band, so technically I could die happily  :P  (no, it's not X) But there are still some I feel the need to see (like X-Japan, even though I wouldn't be crushed if I never saw them).

Unfortunately, some bands I would have died to see in concert are no more or the musician has died or the band/musician just isn't THAT good anymore.

You tell me yours, I tell you mine

There are a few bands I desperately want to see, but some of them have already split up (and I can't expect every band to do a reunion XD).

- Judy and Mary: Are seriously amazing live from the DVDs I've got, but they aren't together anymore.
- Bis (Scottish one, not the vkei band): Aren't together anymore either, but they have done reunion concerts in the past so I'm hoping they might again, one I can actually go to XD.
- X Japan: Well yeah, I can't believe I might actually see them live! I used to cry over the fact that I would never see them live.
- The Cure: There's one I've already seen XD.
- Sparklehorse: Seen as well! *happy*
- The Clash: Well, can you say 'never gonna happen?'. A Clash reunion would be a horrible thing anyway, but I'm very sad I wasn't even born yet when they were performing...

I think this is just a list of my all-time favourite bands o.o;;.

Bands I wanna see before I die :

X Japan
Johnny Cash :'(
MUCC

Bands I wanted to see before I die and I did see :

Guns N'Roses (3 times :D)
Ozzy Osbourne
Alice Cooper
Metallica
Bon Jovi (3 times)
Garbage
Megadeth

I'm so happy to have starting listening to JRock this summer cause I saw Ozzy Osbourne in June 07 and it was the last one on my list (except Johnny Cash of course) that I wanted to see before I die.

for me it would be System of a down they're my most often played band and well... I just love them!
Sadly they're on a hiatus and work on their own projects... so sadly right when I could have the chance to go to their concert, they don't tour anymore T_T

I really gotta see them as soon they play together again!!!

Another band would be... Machine i just love the little band of Hakuei and Kiyoshi!! I love them so much, but they're not very much known in or outside of japan XD so seeing them will be very tough

I'd love to see (excluding disbanded acts)

1. X Japan (well, duh. I used to cry over this)
2. Coaltar of the Deepers (GodDAMN I love Nackies music.)
3. Merry (so goddamn special and great music, especially the older works)
4. Muse (come on, legends :D I'd die to see Matt work his magic on stage)
5. machine (Hakuei and Kiyoshi are huge love.)
6. System of a Down (wow, yeah. They're also great.)

Can't think of any more right now.

David Bowie - absolute legend and one of the most influential artists of all time. His wild make up and dress sense is awesome. So many catchy songs and wonderful entertainer. Would be good for him to do a farewell concert as he is getting on a bit now.

Bob Dylan - Pure legend , one of the greatest song writers. His voice isn't the same as it used to be but still would like to see him before Dylan isn't around anymore.

The Clash - Really enjoyable band who are known for their amazing live acts. If only i had the ability to time travel..

Other notable mentions : The Velvet Underground , The Smiths.

Seen him twice, he still rocks.  TOTALLY worth it if you ever get the chance, funny voice and all. :)

As for me... I'm not really the "OMG I WOULD DO ANYTHING ON EARTH TO SEE ____ PLAY LIVE" type.  But these are the bands that I haven't seen and would be... hmm... extremely enthusiastic about seeing, if they played anywhere close by:

D.T.R
Rock'n Roll Standard Club Band (no idea if they ever even performed live...)
X Japan
Loudness (original lineup, or if by some strange chance it were to happen again, 1992 lineup with Masaki and Taiji)
Seikima II
Cloud Nine
Kings (good luck...)
really any of the major '80s Japanese metal bands
Buck-Tick and Luna Sea, "for old time's sake"

And yeah, that's all Japanese bands, because I've already seen most of my American must-see bands:
B'z (OK, they're Japanese too)
KISS
Aerosmith
Poison (twice)
Motley Crue
Bob Dylan
LA Guns

And if I could build a time machine:
X!
hide, especially during the "Hide Your Face" era
Johnny Cash

Aerosmith (I know, still existent, but... just the older days)

Sadly I must agree about the "older days" part... I saw them a couple years ago (after having wanted to see them forever), and it was honestly one of the most disappointing concerts I've been too. :?  Made me sad, since I love them so much.  (And it wasn't BAD or anything, just not great like I expected.)

I have to say, Motley Crue was disappointing too.  I went to a Scorpions + Motley Crue concert and... yeah.  Neither were what I'd hoped for.  But I saw them under bad circumstances (not-great venue with a really weird atmosphere) so maybe that's not quite fair.  I'd be willing to give both another chance (and still listen to both too)...

Oh, and I'll join you in your time machine for Appetite GNR, EZO, Meat Loaf, old Bon Jovi...

Forgot to add to my list (time machine or otherwise): DEF LEPPARD!  How did I forget them again?

I saw Aerosmith in September and thought it was a pretty good show. The fact I was inebriated before the show even began and it was the first concert I've ever seen probably enhanced my enjoyment of the show though. :P

Metallica, Paul McCartney and X Japan are really the only bands I'd have on a "see before I die list" but a reunited Axl, Slash and Duff line up of Guns N' Roses (wouldn't even matter to me whose on the other guitar or drums as long as they're good!) would be pretty up there too. If I were to include just bands I wanna see and "time machine" scenarios, this would be one loooooong list.

Gorgon (again, not that big of a chance)
Solstice

I could agree to not being able to sing the old songs on Nemo, I don't think Anette handles that pretty well, but for songs like Sacrament of Wilderness, I thought the song was like one of the crappiest songs ever, until I heard it sung by Anette last December in Jyväskylä. I really thought Anette made the song a million times better. Also I think she fits well in Ever Dream, Come Cover Me, She is My Sin and especially Dark Chest of Wonders.

And Winter Storm is a piece of Marcelo Cabulis excrement compressed into a record IMO ;P

And I think, I should add B'z to my "want to see list". At least what I've seen on youtube tells me, that I'd see a show full of energy and... uh... sweaty men in shorts, hahaha!

B'z are AMAZING live.  I swear, every song they have is at least 2x or 3x as good live.  Even if it's a song you usually skip when you listen to the album, when they play it live, you'll think it totally rocks.  I speak from experience. :P

BUGY CRAXONE

BONNIE PINK

Bon Jovi
Joaquín Sabina
Lenny Kravitz

I wish I could have seen them but I can't go back in the past:
X (indies)
X
hide
Toshi (Healing tours rock, but I like his early 90's stuff as well)
SIAM SHADE
B'z (I love them, but late 80's to early 90's music is my favorite)
L'Arc~en~Ciel (90's = FTW)
ZARD
WANDS (original setup)
DEEN (original setup)
Gackt (2004 til now = suck)
Supercar
Night Hawks
Queen

Catherine Russell
Bunch of Jazz artists and bands on a Jazz Festival

Kooria (formerly known as Yato Yuria. She wrote and performed theme songs for Saikano anime series. Sadly she is not that famous, so I guess the only chance to see her live is in Japan)

Hah you've seen ChthoniC? I was soo close to be able to see them in Taiwan, but they played like two days before I got there t_T.. But ah.. I guess I don't care thaaaat much about them, it's just hard to find the Asian bands in Europe. And, it's more cool to see them at their home 8)

I've seen all bands I HAD TO see now, after finally watching X Japan. I guess there are some deceased ones I wanted to see pretty badly, if I can count in both the early era of In Flames & X (Japan).

The ones I HAD to see and saw were:
In Flames, Strapping Young Lad (I was lucky, it was their last tour ever and nobody knew about it at the time), Opeth and X Japan.

I'll just copy my note on last.fm:

Bands I want to see live right now:

In Flames (back in the days~1997-2000)
X (early era~1988-90)
Hypocrisy
Decapitated (Dunno if I can get the chance after the drummer died, too young guy)
Slayer
Michael Jackson (preferrably in the past but I really wouldn't mind seeing him now neither)
Devin Townsend Band

Bands seen live (whether I wanted to or not) :

Gyllene Tider
Wilmer X
In Flames x 4 (++/+++/+++/++)
Judas Priest (+)
Lordi x2
Firewind
Pretty Maids
HammerFall x2 (-/+)
Mystic Prophecy
Freedom Call
Napalm Death
Black Label Society
Anthrax
Megadeth
Yngwie Malmsteen
Saxon (+)
Candlemass x2 (+/+)
Dream Theater
Mötley Crüe
Crucified Barbara x2

Title: bands/musicians you HAVE to see in concert before you die
Post by: Beauty/Broken on June 08, 2008, 08:09:30 PM
Bands that I want to see

1) Muse (I missed them on their Black holes and Revalations tour when they stopped locally due to some stupid assholes >_<)
2) Takanori Nishikawa (Either solo or with ABS, I'm not fussy)
3) Luna Sea (If they played in Europe I would be there in a flash)
4) S.K.I.N - Those 4 guys on stage will be one hell of a show, whatever way you look at it.

Bands which I have seen, and would otherwise want to see
1) X Japan (When they reunited, nothing could keep me away from Tokyo Dome)
2) Blink 182 (Yeah, I know, not an obvious choice - but they were one of the first bands I ever got into and seing them on their final tour means a lot to me - their final album kicks ass)

Bands which I will never get a chance to see
1) Queen (I don't count Queen + Paul Rodgers as 'Queen')

- X, of course  8)
 - Kiss @D@ they're coming to Graspop, in my country, but I don't have the money to go T_______________________T
 - Hanoi Rocks!! I love them!

Those are the bands that I can think of right now... I'll probably add more later.

My longtime dream has come true and some time ago I saw KISS, twice. Man it was awesome, that was an experience I had been waiting since I was six years old.

I've seen most of my top bands/musicians (X Japan, Mogwai, Radiohead et al.) but the one person I am desperate to see is:

David Bowie

Extra: Won't happen but..The Smiths doing a one off reunion would be beyond epic.

Of course I'd love to see X Japan, but I'm also agreeing on David Bowie. The guy needs to tour at least one last time.
I want to see Queen live, but Paul Rogers left the second I get into the damn fandom. :( I'm now wondering who will do the vocals.

Voltaire is another, and if I could see Heart again that would be fantastic.

I really wish I could have gone to a Klaus Nomi show, though. The guy had some great performances.

Absolutely HAVE to? Pink Floyd (well I'm seeing roger waters doing the wall [5 days before X!!], which is the next best thing) and X Japan (*knock on wood*). Others include Oingo Boingo (yeah right...), Daft Punk, Buck-Tick, Luna Sea, Miyavi, Fire Bomber (Jam Project works, too!), David Byrne (preferably with the rest of the Talking Heads)... Some of these are differing levels of impossible.

Bands I've managed to see already...Geez, let's see. Coldplay, L'Arc~en~Ciel, the Pillows, Psycho le Cemu, SKIN, Juno Reactor, Kalafina with Kajiura Yuki (she signed my .hack//OSTs!!), Nobuo Uematsu (with the Chicago Mages at a Distant Worlds concert), and I'm sure I'm forgetting someone awesome here and there. I go to see this Pink Floyd cover band called The Machine a lot too, they're awesome. I've also been to a few other western music shows, but they were sub-par for one reason or another...

David Byrne (preferably with the rest of the Talking Heads)

This would be absolutely amazing.

Stop Making Sense is the greatest concert video ever. It single-handedly got me into this band... Well, I can dream.

In alphabetical order

Guns N' Roses
They've been in Finland in 2005 and 2010 but both times I didn't have money to buy the tickets. I know what they used to be but still it'd be nice to see them

Iron Maiden
I've seen them 9 times already but still I want to see them as many times as possible

Judas Priest
I saw them in 2005 and even though they are getting a bit too old already I'd still like to see them at least one more time
Last time they were in Finland was in 2008 but it was the same day as my birthday. I was talking with my friend to go see them but we were so shit-faced we decided to get even more shit-faced and went to bar

Motorhead
I guess it's a band every metalhead must see and they come to Finland pretty often but for some reason I've never seen them

Sex Machineguns
Probably the best band ever from Japan even though the last 3 albums have been quite crappy.
I'd still like to see them though.

X Japan
Well, they're not either what they used to be but if they ever come to Finland I'm pretty sure I'd go to see them

- Dream theater (I've been in one concert, but it was pretty disappointing)
- The Cure

Bands I wont see :(

- Led Zeppelin
- Pink Floyd
- Dire Straits
- Green Day (they are too crappy nowadays to be worth paying for)

Okay I know this topic is old, but I've been thinking about that lately... so...

Musicians I want to see, before I die:
- X Japan (obviously)
- L'Arc~en~Ciel
- Chara (I freaking love that crazy woman, actually want to see her more than L'Arc and X...)
- Kyary Pamyu Pamyu (with nb-chan together, since he once said he was unsure if he fits in there... you do darling :P)
- Cocco

Bands I would've loved to see, but it's impossible now:
- Ladybaby (they lost Ladybeard)
- Malice Mizer (...)
