let’s take back life,
earth, moon and abundance.

If not interesting just scroll down... This song is very much different from the ones you're used to listen to here, but its chords and the turn of the saxophone are so beautiful to me that I couldn't help but share them.

Everything here is linked to the atmosphere of Italy in the 70s. It is a song of hope aimed at all those "happy gypsies", free and non-conformist, who wanted to change the world in those years, yet I have no intention of conveying any political message.

(The last four verses of the final recapitulation are freely reworked from "Cantata of a Lusitanian puppet" by Peter Weiss")

'I also saw happy Gypsies'

It's true that we can't see the light from the window
Because the night always wins over the day and the night produces no blood.
It's true that our air is becoming more and more girlish
And he gets chased along dead-end streets.
It's true that we can't speak and that we always talk too much.

It's true, we spit on the ground
When we see a hunchback, a thirteen or a drunk pass by.
Or when we don't want to upset the wonderful balance
Of endless hatefulness
Of a happiness without the worst.

It's true that we don't want to pay
The guilt of having no guilt and that we prefer to die.
Rather than lower your face,
It's true, we always look for love in the wrong arms.

It's true that we don't want to change our winter into summer,
it's true that poets scare us.

Because poets caress their humps too much,
They love the smell of weapons,
They hate the end of the day.
Because poets always open their window
Even if we say it's the wrong window.

It's true that we don't understand each other, that we never speak the same language.
And we are afraid of the dark and also of the light,
It's true that we have so much to do that we never do anything.

It's true that the road often seems like hell,
A voice in which we cannot be together,
Where we never recognize our brothers.

It is true that we drink the blood of our fathers
And we hate all our women and all our friends.
But I also saw happy gypsies running after each other,
Making love and rolling on the floor.
I also saw some happy gypsies in Piazza Maggiore
To get drunk on the moon,
Of revenge and war

We are the ones who enrich the earth,
we who bear
the sleeping sickness and malaria;
we harvest cotton, rice and wheat
and we plant corn
on the whole highland.

We get into forests, we plough savannas,
our arms reach
every day farther and farther away.
From us the treasures of the earth come,
and with them all the others
have an advantage.

And we are the ones who embellish the moon
with our life
covered with rags and glass stones.
The same life that others repulse back
like an insult,
like a spider in a room.

Let’s take the reins of our life, our whole life,
let’s take back life,
earth, moon and abundance.

It’s true that we don’t understand each other,
that two of us never speak
the same language,
and that we’re afraid of the dark and even of the light, it’s true
that we are so busy
that we never do anything.

It’s true that our path often looks like a hell
or like a voice where we can’t stay together,
where we never recognize our brothers.
It’s true, we drink the blood of our fathers,
we hate all our women
and all our friends.

But I also saw happy Gypsies
running after each other, making love
and rolling on the ground.
I also saw happy Gypsies
in Piazza Maggiore
getting drunk on moon, revenge and war.

I also saw happy Gypsies
running after each other, making love
and rolling on the ground.
I also saw happy Gypsies
in Piazza Maggiore1
getting drunk on moon, revenge and war.
