Another classic. This song is so powerful when played live.
I love the intro so much, it's so soft...and then it goes BANG!
I like the Japanese version more, mainly because I only know the Japanese lyrics and can't sing along with the English version Oo
-
why you love the songs that i love?XD
-
Maybe we love all songs by X but don't realize it and we only think that we have favourites amongst their songst while it isn't so
-
lol...well when i first listened to Kurenai i was like that---->o.O
i mean this song is amazing!!the guitar at the beginning makes me cry.......
*i cry a lot wtf?* XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
-
I know what you mean...now that I think about it Kurenai has to be the very fist song I heard by X, I was blown away
It doesn't make me cry but I'm getting melancholic after listening to it.
-
i remember the first time i listened to it.i was sitting at my pc,listening to their whole discography and when i listened to the beggining, well.i couldnt believe that a song like that exists xd
and i listened to it a couple of times just to realise that it really exists xD
-
One of my favourites, I can also remember the first time i head it, i downloadind along Silent Jealousy, and at the beginning i said: what's that? but then i couldn't stop listening to it >_<
-
yeah same here....and i still cant stop listening to it >.<
-
I also like the Japanese version more... Becouse you can actually hear the lyrics there, the english version is plain gibberish (sorry Toshi :P )
-
Omigoshi that was 13 days after I was born... Cool!
And yea Yoshiki wrote the lyrics but they Toshi is the one who spoke them in gibberish :P I mean I understand the japanese words more than english ones :D
And a translation would be cool :)
-
That was great, I love it when they don't do the guitar duel at the end of the solos, but hide does that little lead-thingy when the singing starts. Plus it's nice to see X in a TV-show without using playback.
-
kurenai..one of X legendary songs...
-
thanks for that PanthereNoire. and yeah Toshi's english was unclear there. xDD
-
Thank you for the translation dear *hugs* :D
-
I love Kurenai, it's an amazing peice that was probably best live- the crimson glow of the stage, the pounding drums, and the multitude of masses banging their heads waiting for Toshi to give the verse to the audience~!
"KURENAI DA!"
Huh, does it seem to anyone that while Yoshiki was playing the peice by Bach he went into playing the intro from 'Unfinished'?
-
Huuuu!!! This is my favourite X Japan song. I adore it, his front slow , and beautiful , then a real one speed metal song !! :P
-
Totally legendary ^^
-
Yeah, I love digging up old threads.
It seems I'm one of the few people that prefer the Vanishing Vision version of Kurenai. I think the riffs, solos and harmonies sound a lot better on that version than on Blue Blood, which to me sounds more like a standard rock production. I don't like the ''Engrishness'' of the lyrics, but I think it displays some authenticity....
-
I like the Vanishing Vision and Blue Blood versions equally. If I had to choose just one, I'd probably give a slight edge to VV, though they're both fantastic.
Actually I think the contrast between them is interesting because they bring out different aspects of the same song. To me VV Kurenai is more angry, immediate, and personal, while BB Kurenai has a greater epic sweep (probably due to the orchestration) but is somehow a shade more distant for it.
And though the funny English on VV is a little... unfortunate, if you ignore the meaning of the words and focus only on the sounds of the syllables, I think the song works really well in English. The Japanese version is sung, the English version is practically chanted on the beat and (due to how English sounds as a language, more consonants and etc.) has a more explosive, percussive quality.
"MY HEART-has BEEN GON-na DYE DEEP RED" has a lot more punch and drive than "KU-RE-na-I (pause) ni SO-MA- -TTA", though the latter flows better and is more melodic.
-
I'd also say that Toshi reminds me of Kai Hansen (ex-Helloween/Gamma Ray) on the VV LP, which is one of the reasons why I like the VV version so much (hell, I think the whole first LP sounds like the early Helloween stuff!). But I also like both versions. VV's Kurenai seems more aggressive, more metal.
-
This song is soo great on last live...the people looke like there wearing all deep red clothes and sing along :D
-
I like the On the Verge of Destruction version, especially the part where Toshi's voice nearly cracks on the chorus:
Kurenai ni somatt-a-AAAAH!!
And then the audience comes in with the "kono ore wo..."
One of my all-time favorite X live moments in fact.
-
I love this song too !!! I prefer Blue Blood's version solo than Vanishing Vision's. But both version are great.
I noticed some weeks ago than the first sentence of the song was "I couldn't look back"... I always thought Toshi was singing in Japanese lol !
-
I love this song! I always melt when I hear the intro.
-
What does Toshi say at the start of Kurenai? He shouts something that sounds like "KURENAI AN I DIE!!"
-
I think he screams Kurenaida, but so my japanese sucks it doesn't have to be right *g*
-
HAHAH kurenai and I die XDDDD
Yeah, it's KURENAI DAAA!!
Which is an impolite version of "kurenai desu", "it's kurenai" or "this is kurenai"
:]
-
This song has so much energy it makes me want to go crashing through my wall. I mean that in a good way btw.
-
lol...well when i first listened to Kurenai i was like that---->o.O

*i cry a lot wtf?* XDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Huh, well I cry sometimes too, more to ballads..
their songs are emotional to say at least.
-
Kurenai rocks, I am one who prefers the japanese over the english also due to the fact I know the japanese ones and not the english ones so well. I personally thought the english lyrics were jammed in too much, it sounded as if it was originally written to be sung in japanese.
"MY HEART-has BEEN GON-na DYE DEEP RED" has a lot more punch and drive than "KU-RE-na-I (pause) ni SO-MA- -TTA", though the latter flows better and is more melodic.
I feel the opposite, I dunno I just thought the english chorus sounded rather sloppy and a bit wrong but both songs are good though I prefer the live versions first and foremost and then the Blue Blood version.
Also on the VV version are the lyrics different on the soft intro or is that Toshi's jibberish :P
I hear "Looking" rather than "Looked At"
-
This song is the first X stuff I have ... (but not the first X song to me though...)
A friends of my sister gave me this song when I asked her an X JAPAN's song...
and, fortunately for me, I have a red light lamp in my room ...
so, you know ... XD
just like in the concert, I always listen to this song with a red light turn on in my room xD
-

It's supposed to be "lookie" : D
-
Well, I know you're gonna will me but... Kurenai is not one of my favourite X songs. I prefer Vanishing Love, X or Rose Of Pain.
My first song... Rusty Nail. I found it on a "weird japanese stuff" topic.
-
Great choice ;D But it's kinda weird that you like Rose of Pain and X and not Kurenai o_O I mean, both Blue Blood songs, and most BB songs are classics.

HAHAHAH XDD

I know, but don't misinterpret me. I think Kurenai is a great song, and I love the intro. But listening the hardest X songs, Kurenai leaves me kinda indifferent.
-
one of my faviorites, absolutely brilliant song
-
I just seem to have found the original version kurenai, from 1985, I'm not talking about the English one, very interesting to listen to. Also Toshi at the end is hilarious.

I know that one : D
It's from 20 november 1985 @ Yoshiki's birthday gig.
Really funny indeed, I love pre-VV X!
