Hi! Does anyone know anything about BC Rich Mockingbird guitars, specifically telling the difference between the Bronze and Platinum types?
I was looking to buy one and know the Bronze is the cheaper version so just wanted to make sure. Is there any particular shape/hardware difference to indicate which is which?

What kind did hide play?
Thanks

Hide played with a Fernandes, not BC Rich. I've tried some cheap BC Riches, and to be honest, they suck ass. I've heard that the more expensive ones are decent, or maybe even good :P But if you're looking for an authentic hide-guitar, you have to go for a Fernandes.

Oh i thought Hide played BC Rich's aswell. that wasn't the main reason I wanted one (just because hide plays one) but thanks for pointing it out. The Bronze series was the one I was offered (cheap) but I already have a Gibson Les Paul for serious playing - just though a BC rich would be fun, as Les Pauls are quite difficult to handle, especially playing hide's parts in X songs.

Ok, well just make sure you try the guitar before buying it, if possible :P

You trumped me! 'I'll see your Les Paul and raise you'
thanks for the info, would love to hear if anyone has or has played a BC Rich/Fernandes and can explain the difference.

By the way: hide also played B.C. Rich, but you're right, Hurley, he has preferred Fernandes.

Two of his 42 guitars were B.C. Rich models:

B.C. Rich Warlock that he has used during his amateur time and B.C. Mocking Bird (also known as  Amoeba) that is one of my favourite guitars of hide.

The hide models from Fernandes seem to be extremely difficult to get. I've asked around many places online and all say that they are a Japan-exclusive item and only available from special/specific and limited dealers. That is even what the Export office from the Fernandes Headquarters told me. I was pretty shocked.

I think, Ebay is the only way for people who don't settled in Japan to get a fernandes guitar or an other copy model of hide's guitar. I hate ebay (must I say why?), but now I really superior about should I buy an orginial vintage guitar that Taiji also had played or a Fernandes of hide (MG 120 X)... well, I should mention, I can't play guitar, but I want to learn it and this guitar (vintage or fernandes) would be a spur for me to improve and get better and better... and one day I can play even guitars of Fernandes... but anyway I don't have much time at this time T_T." And their is also my japanese cd-seller... but he always sell cds very  expensive... that's why I make him happy.

I think I've seen that store before - it mainly sells second hand (and normally imperfect models) at astronomical prices which rival, and in some cases, exceed the original shelf price.

About BC RICH mockingbirds, they play really well, especially the higher end models. If your willing to pay a bit over 500€, you'll get a great guitar with superior parts.

(I have experiance playing them)

I dunno... The time I played one I wasn't really impressed. I think a cheap Epiphone SG (let's say one you can buy for 200 bucks) plays a LOT better than a high end BC Rich Mockigbird. Hard to describe why... I think they play easier.

And by the way: buying a guitar for the way it looks (or who also played on that particular model) is probably one of the dumbest things you can do. I love the way Jackson RRs look, but the one I played on once (and that was a VERY good one, around the 700 euro price range) played pretty much the same as my old cheapo Ibanez guitar.

I was just wondering what the guitars were like, and thought that this was the right place to ask. Saying that, I don't think its dumb to buy a guitar for that reason-whatever inspires you to play cannot be a bad thing. Sure you have a point about trying what make/type suits you best, but there is a lot to be said for just going for it

Hmmmm.... Of course the best thing is to actually try the guitar before you buy it. If you play on (for example) a BC Rich Warlock and a Epiphone Les Paul, and you think the Warlock plays better (HA! Now that's funny ;D) but you like the LP more because Jimmy Page plays on, I think it's extremely stupid to go for the LP. But then again, it'll be your problem, not mine. ;D

depends what you feel more comfortable playing. maybe the warlock dosn't suit your style or what you want to play. I don't see how you can call someone 'extremely stupid', if someone wants a LP because it reminds them of their favourite artist and inspires them to play then there is a lot to say for that.
