I'm a little freak cause I'm obsessed with a new band every three weeks :roll:
Right now, it's Luna Sea, or at least their music. I love how they combine rock with classical elements (violin)...should that remind me of any other band? :lol:
I have Image, Style, Eden and some other stuff but I'm trying to get all of their stuff somehow. Right now I'm waiting for their last live.
Damn I should stop watching last concerts of bands or I'll never get out of depression :(

I think everything they did after MOTHER sucked. Style was ok I guess, im kind of 50/50 on that album. Their last 2 albums are terrible though. Pre 1995 and post 1995 Luna Sea are definatley 2 different bands.

I hope, IF it is something like a reunion, it's just a concert to gain money for sick children or something, I'm not a fan of a real reunion :? Like Crows In Black said, the "new" LS was somewhat...weak, music wise.

So, just watched the TV-Broadcast of the concert, and it's really cool, great songs and a awesome band.
But what's up with asian men, how is it possible that they don't seem to get older (visually) or even look younger the older they get, especially Inoran. You can get really jealous as an european guy about that fact :wink:

Luna Sea is an amazing band. I discovered them only about a month+ ago... XD
o////o I feel so noobish.
Haven't listened to all the albums yet but about 3 or so. I like Style. To that one I even paid attention. XD Now that sounds stupid right, not paying attention to music... but I'm listening to music almost 24/7 and when I'm focused on something other, I have no idea what my Winamp's playing...
Yet... I can say they're really cool. They ROCK! ^_^

For Babak (and anyone else who wants to try Luna Sea)...
I think the video "REW" (a.k.a. Rewind) is a great starting place. It's mainly concert footage from their "Style" period-- my personal favorite period of Luna Sea, though some people don't like it-- but it also has a LOT of clips from earlier performances, some of them all the way back to their Extasy days, so you get to see them playing a lot of different styles and wearing a lot of different looks.
And the albums all sound pretty different from each other, so if you don't like one, you still might like another. Good first albums, in my opinion:
Singles (A-sides and B-sides from 1993 to 1997)
Mother (probably their most "classic" album)
Style (my first Luna Sea album, and it worked for me at the time...)
My personal favorite Luna Sea songs are Rosier and Desire.
And my favorite Sugizo guitar solo is on the song Rain (it's a B-side, on Singles). 8)

I also really like Wish. You should just see that song live, incredible !!!
I've still haven't listen much to Luna Sea though. I only have 2 CDs and one best of (Period, which I think is really good).

Period bothers me because of Ryuichi's voice. :? By the time it came out I was already a Luna Sea fan for a couple years, so hearing all those songs with his "new voice" was... really weird.
Agreed about Precious and Wish live though-- they rock!
I have to say, I don't really listen to Luna Sea that often nowadays, but I was a HUGE fan of them in highschool-- I started listening to them in 1996 or so, just before I discovered X-- and I still have all their albums and stuff (and still put one on now and then).
And I bet I'd still rock at Rosier/Desire/True Blue in karaoke, given the opportunity. :twisted:

The only album I've heard is Period, so I'm going to have to get all their studio albums now to hear the "true" versions of the songs.
Loveless was the first LS song I heard, but I think TRUE BLUE or perhaps STORM is my fav.

I recommend watching Mafuyu no Yagai Concert which took place on December 23rd 1996 in Yokohama Stadium. It's available on DVD.

May 29, 2010 is 21th anniversary of LUNA SEA’s formation.
Official website was updated this day and official twitter and youtube channel was launched at the same time.
Just a word “REBOOT” and unidentified vieoo are displayed on top page.
LUNA SEA is the rock band formed by 5 members – RYUICHI, SUZIGO, INORAN, J, SHINYA. On May 29, 2010 their history started from the first live at Machida PLAY HOUSE in Kanagawa. In 1991 they made their major debut with their 2nd album “IMAGE”.
They had overwhelmed Japanese music scene with incredible speed. They performed legendary outside 100,000 audience gig, and performed in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. Sometimes they encountered “stormy” weather, then people called them “the band calling storm”. They came to the end on Dec 26th-27th in 2007 at Tokyo Dome gig.
Then in 2007 they performed 1 night revival gig at Tokyo Dome on the day of a total eclipse of the moon since 7 years ago.
Dec 21th, 2010 is again the day of a total eclipse of the moon.
LUNA SEA gave us unidentified message on the day of full moon on May 29th -a total eclipse of the moon-…

Don't know if it has been posted before but Luna Sea will release a new single on march 21st. I think comparing it to Art of Life is no the best idea...the only similarity in my opinion is that they both are longer than the average song. The One is really soothing and very much Luna Sea...but I dislike how broken and separated the song feels. It's like 3 or 4 small songs put together. The beginning and ending are my favourite parts.

If Yoshiki would have wanted to go more into the metal direction he probably should have gotten someone like Teru, Hizaki, masa or Panther ;)
And speaking of The one, just listened to the songs a couple of times today when I went to work and I really start to get more and more into the song.

Yoshiki has already stated that his preference or direction for X Japan now is "edgy". So edgy, hard rock. I think we can kiss any hopes of pre-dahlia style metal songs goodbye. I've accepted that fact and don't really mind what they are doing now; I really like Jade a lot.

Jade is alright, Born to be free is meh to me, it's like an anime theme sound...

@ Matthias, I listened to The One again and that solo song of Sugizo. You're right, it's not my cup of tea but if it is played in the background it's ok.
I don't know why you guys like it. I think it's really different from X Japan's music. I can't listen X Japan when I need to study for instance but with Luna Sea it's better not to focus on the music. If I do I get like wtf is this transition?! I still like some songs of Luna Sea like "Another" (perhaps because its sounds like stairway to heaven :P)
I like IV the most of X Japan's new songs because it was quite special just after their reunion and the fact they used a riff from hide. Jade is pretty catchy but I'm not so fond of the solo and the bridge reminds me of a cartoon I used to watch as a child...anyone else knows Alfred Jodokus Kwak? lol

Haha, Luna Sea is like a band i constantly listen to and enjoy without any drama. well, or i am just not payjng attention. xD Sometimes I am surprised I know so little about them eventhough they are one of my favourite bands... @_@ They deserve more attention...

Have you guys heard their new album? It's pretty fantastic, and makes me sad that X Japan can't do half the things they've done since they've reunited (Several DVD/Blu-ray releases of new concerts, new songs and album, etc.) They're also one of the few bands that I think sound better live post reunion than before.

At the end of the year Luna Sea will release their new album 'LUV'. While I didn't love every song from their last record it was still a decent record and some songs I really like, i.e.

Somehow I cannot get used to their singer's singing style. It just hurts my ears. :D Not sure why. But there are a few songs I like. I will definitely check it out. Sugizo's new solo album is coming soon, too.

Ryuichi's singing stlye I got used to pretty quick, whom it really took me a while is Kamijo (and masa lol).
With Ryuichi the only thing I'd complain (and that's way too hard of a word) is that his voice (or the way he uses it) changed a lot from his early days. For example compare the same song from

I guess singers' voices do change over time. Toshi's voice is not the same, either. Or his vocalisation technique changed. Both of them sound more refined now versus a rawer, crispier sound back in those days. I don't know why but Ryuichi's voice creeps me out. I cannot. Seriously. I only watch their stuff because of Sugizo, LOL :D The songs are good, though.

Let me be completely honest, I don’t have high hopes because Luna Sea’s new material is verh lackluster, aside from a few Sugizo’s songs. Songs like Rough and Yamibi are a standout, those are grata, but A Will was very lame imo and A Luv (cringe) was better but still very mediocre.
I know X Japan has release very few material, but it’s still been higher quality than Luna Sea. There’s no point in releasing a lot of stuff if it’s not good. Sugizo’s songs and his latest solo album was very good, so maybe let him lead both bands? :)

And in both bands he wasn't when they formed the bands. But it seems he is very dedicated or let me say... into the bands. I think he really tries to participate as much as he can in the creative process.
I read somewhere he wasn't pleased with the last years of X, because he always wants to get up and tour and be active anx creative. But I'm not sure about it. Maybe it's a false memory..

That’s interesting. I mean, I wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case, very understandable but I’d be surprised that he actually said it! 😄 haha Because in X he always seems to be very passive about criticism and all that.

Luna Sea's new album has been released today. I am considering to download it from iTunes instead of buying the CD.
Anyway, listened to the sample, the songs I like more are Closer and Higher & Higher.

Yes, I have heard of Show Ya. I don't have much opinion because I have only listened to a couple of their songs back in the day.
The only thing is, that I am not too into female singers/bands. ::)
How about you? I wonder how you got to know so many Japanese music/bands.
I like Luna Sea since many many years ago, only not as much as X. Recently, I spent much time watching their concerts I can find on Youtube.
I must say their performance were all first class. ;D
