I've had this stupid little fantasy for a long time, here's the line-up I've always wanted to see in an X Japan Super Group Tribute Band.

Guitar: Syu (Galneryus, ex-Valkyre, Animetal)
Guitar: Kaoru (Dir en grey)
Bass:
Keyboard:
Drums: Shinya (Dir en grey)
Vocals:

It's not complete, other people I have in mind are...

Guitar: Die, Miyavi ( -.-; ), Paul Gilbert (Racer X, Mr.BIG), Marty Friedman (ex-Megadeth, ex-Kakaufany [sp?])

Bass: John Myung (Dream Theater), J (Luna Sea)

Drums: Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater)

Vocals: ...It's hard to come close to Toshi or even find a vocal that can hit those notes...

Just something stupid that would make me gitty to see.

Guitar: Sugizo (Luna Sea)
Guitar: Steve Vai
Bass: Billy Sheehan (Mr. Big)
Keyboard: Alan Wilder (Depeche Mode)
Drums: Bryan "Brain" Mantia (Primus, Guns N' Roses)
Vocals: Sebastian Bach (Skid Row)

Would this combination get along well for more than 2 oder 3 gigs? Propably not, but who cares   Besides the fact, that I don't think that Sebastian Bach speaks japanese.

Not to want to be a target, I thought the vocalist of Dragonland did a good job on Rusty Nail...

Vocals: Demon Kogure (Seikima-II)
The best vocalist there is, except Toshi :D

I wouldn't call him "the best", but Demon Kogure always kicks ass on every cover he does, so he would definitelly be an interesting choice...

Vocals: Demon Kogure [Seikima II]
Guitar: Tak Matsumoto [B'z, TMG]
Lead Guitar: Akira Takasaki [Loudness]
Bass: Masaki [Animetal, Canta]
Drums: Munetaka Higuchi [Loudness, Sly]
Keyboards: Rei Atsumi [Vow Wow]

^^

Hey... this was a cool thread.

Arucard already chose EXACTLY the same lineup I would have, other than bass (my first choice on bass would've been Crazy Cool Joe).  So I'll pick some other guys just to be original:

Toshi: Blackie Lawless (WASP)
hide: Kyoji Yamamoto (Vow Wow)
Pata: Slash (Guns 'n Roses, etc.)
Taiji: Crazy Cool Joe (Dead End)
Drum Yoshiki: Tommy Lee (Motley Crue)
Keyboard Yoshiki: KENJI SHIMIZU (D.T.R)

That's a good choice as well... Kenji rules, but I don't know... Rei Atsumi's style seems closer to Yoshiki's to me... ^^

And if I had to choose again the band I guess I'd go for Gargoyle's Toshi on bass... His style is just sooooo similar to Taiji's...

Not a bad cover, not bad, but the synth kills it for me!
Edited to say that I mean not the synth in itself, but the sound of this particular one.

I love animated X though! Kind of trippy as I've got one of the worst headcolds of my life and a temp.

I would cry if any member of Dir en grey was involved in this band, should the band be real.

I don't think that any of them are worthy, in every sense of the word.

Oh yeah, I agree, Rei Atsumi makes more sense in that position-- Kenji seems to have more of a rock'n'roll/pop kind of style, kinda Jerry Lee Lewis.  But Endless Rain and Say Anything could turn out pretty interestingly with that Hammond organ sound he sometimes uses.

Randomly, a Japanese rock (non-metal-scene) X tribute:

Toshi: Kohshi Inaba (B'z)
hide: Hisashi (Glay)
Pata: RAN (Twinzer, hide's Psychommunity days...)
Taiji: J (Luna Sea)
Drum Yoshiki: Junji (Siam Shade)
Piano Yoshiki: D.I.E (Spread Beaver, etc.)

Agreed... I just love that Hammond sound... Can't really imagine a Hammond organ sounding bad in any song... Well... Maybe a Slayer one... But just maybe...
