An article by Seattle Weekly: http://www.seattleweekly.com/2010-09-29/music/the-ex-x/

One interesting thing is that it claims that the new album might get a release by a major record label, though "the ink's not yet dry on the deal."

I can't wait for the show on Friday!  One thing though - the LA and Oakland gigs had GA/Pits on the floor which, IMO, creates a wilder energy at the gig.  The last time I checked, The Paramount was sticking with their all reserved seats plan...no GA (even though they have the ability to pull the seats from the main floor).  Anyone know for sure?

Nevermind - answered my own question.  It's all reserved seating for Friday's gig.

I think the article starts moving into pointless Muse bashing when it starts mentioning the Twilight soundtrack, there was no need for that just to make X look good. Also '80's *soft* rock' was a very bad term to reference X Japan's music style as. Apart from that its a pretty good article.

Not a bad article.  Seattle Weekly is a free paper around these parts for those who didn't know.

I've been to lots of shows at the Paramount and while they do stick to reserve seating and only allow people into the areas where they hold tickets (balcony, main floor, etc.) in my experience they are also very relaxed about letting people stand up out of their seats near the stage. How much they tolerate depends on the individual security personnel and the instructions of the performers, I think. They won't permit a pit but they also won't sic their overgrown ushers on you unless you're being a real prick.

I think it would be a good idea on all of the tour threads to also post what time the concerts start, it would be very helpful for people trying to follow it online. Figuring out when the Oakland live started was very confusing.

"Just a reminder that you bought tickets to see X Japan at The Paramount on Friday, October 1st. Doors will open at 7 pm, and the show is at 8 pm!

Approximate set times:

Vampires Everywhere! 8 - 8:30 pm
X Japan - 9 - 11 pm

Set times are approximate, so be sure to be there when the show starts at 8pm!

Yeah, I've been going to the Paramount since the 80's so I've seen my fair share of shows there.  I just wasn't sure if they were pulling the seating out on the Main Floor to make it truly GA or if they were going to leave the seats in, like most shows there, and make it reserved.

I kind of wish they would pull the seats from the MF and make it GA like I've seen in the Wiltern and Oakland shows.  Oh well - it'll still be a kick ass show!

I didn't regard as the article as Muse bashing at all, it just made a lot of positive comparisons between the two bands and the prowess of their live shows.

I mean, let's be honest here. Muse are regarded by a lot of people as being the best live band in the world right now, with only mega-acts like U2 rivaling their stage presence. To compare X Japan to that based on their Wiltern Gig is pretty damned high praise.

Don't get me wrong, the 2008 Tokyo Dome shows were my personal favorite gigs of all time, but in terms of how tight and rehearsed X are on stage, comparing them to Muse is quite generous. X Japan post-reunion have been quite sloppy at times, when I saw Muse at Wembley last month they didn't step a single foot wrong on either night.
Title: Re: X Japan World Tour @ Paramount Theatre, Seattle, WA - October 1st
Post by: saprobe on October 01, 2010, 08:11:28 PM
I think the Muse comparison is only drawn because their popularity--especially among young people--was a surprise to a lot of people who thought stadium rock was dead and buried. That's why they brought up Twilight. I don't think it was a deliberate dig.

I'm kind of concerned that the turnout for tonight's show will be low because there's not much buzz and this media coverage is all last minute. :E

Oh man! That article made my day.

X Japan has been my favorite band since 2002, but in 2007 or so, Muse came into my life and has been the only band to come close to contending for the position of all-time fave for me. To see X get praise like this, just feels great. Thanks so much for posting that!

I finally saw the ad for the gig last night on MTV (same one they've been using for LA and Oakland - just changed show to Seattle, The Parmount, etc).  As others stated, I think tonight's gig may be lacking in attendance for whatever reason.  There are plenty of tickets available and the media coverage has been next to nil.  I suppose those of us going will just have to yell that much louder to make up the difference   ;D

I just got back from the show.  The short of it - the set list was the same for those that are following every detail of the US tour.  The band hit the stage around 9:15pm and finished before 11pm (or so).

I was upstairs so I can't comment on the crowd on the Main Floor but the upstairs was barren.  The Paramount has a 3 tier balcony.  Each tier is split into 5 sections across.  The first tier/mezzanine was maybe half to 2/3rds full.  The first row of the second mezzanine only had a sprinkling of fans, with the rest of the section empty.  The third mezzanine was blocked off entirely.  Overall, the balcony was quite empty.  It was strange to look back and basically see no one.  :(

The crowd that was there was definitely into it, though.  The usual chants were going like at the previous two US gigs.

I absolutely loved seeing the band for the first time!  Wonderful memories I have now when I listen to their songs.  :)

I'll post more later....

It's disappointing to hear that it wasn't sold out.  I wonder if it was a mistake to book two shows so close to each other? (Seattle and Vancouver)

I have a friend who went to the show tonight.  He's not a huge X fan but I introduced them to him years back and he does like them.  I can't wait to hear his thoughts on the show.

Yeah - I definitely would of liked to have seen more people there.  I would hazard a guess that the Main Floor was 80% full with the balcony maybe 20% full (if that).  I'm sure others can give better stats on the Main Floor attendance.

The band played like the house was packed though  :)

I just realised, why aren't they playing Tears? I think Endless Rain is on the new album as well but, Tears is the song that clearly has the English lyrics finished the most, (plus it had a better guitar solo imo) so why have they got Endless Rain on their setlist instead of Tears? I guess its a bit depressing to play every day, and Endless Rain involves more audience participation.

Keep my eyes on the US Tour. Their performances are quiet great far from show in Japan, but just got few attention from US. I bet if this situation still goes like this, I can't see the future of the band in US and another World Tour. Let's see how Vancouver show goes.

this is what yoshiki promise, they are rock band, they only play 1 ballad, if they put another ballad, it will be tears rf forever love..  possibly, endless rain is easier to sing  compare to tears.

I was implying they play Tears instead of Endless Rain, as in there would still only be one ballad.

I think Endless Rain is at least a little bit like X. I just don't see it being removed...
So if they are planning to have only one ballad it will be Endless Rain till the end. If they were to substitute another song or to generally decide on adding a second ballad then I guess Tears would be it.

So hmm...too bad this didn't sell out but I guess it would be too much for us to expect all of them to sell out,  right?...^^;;;

If one show doesn't go that well, that don't mean much either. Look at Versailles first europe tour for example... in Munich it looked like there were maybe around 200 people? It was already a tiny hall but there were hardly any people @@ In comparision to that, a few days from that I sold out (i think) a BIG hall in Paris.
Well, it's not like the paramount theater was half empty... ;)

The only thing that surprises me, is that there is hardly any coverage around yet. Maybe that's because of the weekend? They had pretty many articles before the concert in that city...hm...

"On the U.S. tour, Toshi is singing most of the songs in English. ***Next winter***, the band will release its first U.S. album"

W.T.F.

"the natural assumption is that the band is filming the North American tour for a DVD release. It would be foolish on many levels not to do so. Yoshiki agrees.

“We’re trying to film some of the shows, yes, but I don’t know which ones."

I bet the only lives they record will be the one's where Toshi's voice f***'s up.

The next winter starts in a few months :P So don't worry! I'm sure it was a typo or misunderstanding. They never plan that far ahead XD

I saw someone post on twitter (I think from Canada) something like "Is it strange that I haven't heard of x japan? The commercial made it sound like the biggest thing to come to American soil." So the commercials are helping a little.

Did no one record anything at this concert except that one person?

Short compilation of songs from the concert, Toshi's vocals are crazy on 'X'.

Thanks for the video! They all sound great, and the crowd looked like they were having a blast.

Man, when I first bought the tickets I told my self I wouldn't look at any concert spoilers but that turned out to be an impossible feat....

Misc things:

*even though I don't expect the set list to change for the other remaining dates of the promo tour, Drain is the tune I would love to see them replace with something else.  The energy died during that tune.

*if they're going to bring a video screen around - I would suggest they make better use of it than having computerized designs running on them during the show.  Maybe sync up the camera man's feed to the video screen every now and then?  Or, some local footage from each city (like entering Seattle, or Sea-Tac airport, etc)?  Just seems like a waste to have that big screen with them and not use it to its potential

*Sugizo took his own pics of some of the band at the end of the gig while they were on stage.  Staff photographer took pics of the entire band with their backs to the audience (to show the audience of course behind them)...

*several water bottles were squirted and/or thrown as previously reported.  Sugizo managed to get 2 up to the balcony level

*free post cards advertising the show were at The Paramount.  Just had the 5 member image they've been using on one side, dates on the other...

*with all due respect to hide's legacy, I think it's time they consider letting Sugizo play the lead(s) for the entire show.  Whether you're an old school die hard fan or a newbie, it just seems time for them to move on.  A fresh start here in North America....

*I can't comment on Vampires Everywhere as we were sitting in the lobby chatting while having a drink.  Their performance was being shown on the in house TV's anyway.  Seemed like a good way to spend the time than bash the band.

Regarding that "winter" thing for the new album, it'll be early 2011. The band will be signing a deal with a US record label before the end of 2010 (if the haven't already). That's the word from the band's US-based promo agency, who are doing a killer job.

I didn't get to say anything on the forum yet because I was busy the rest of the weekend. But wow, X was everything I could hope it would be. It was really surreal being in the 2nd row from the stage, so amazing to see them live. I don't think I was ever happier to be at a live show before.

Just as the Vancouver live has happened, for some reason only now has every video under the sun from the Seattle show emerged on youtube (slight  exagguration).

Part of Art of Life, Toshi sings it really well

Jade, full song, okay quality.

Short section of Jade, much better quality.

A good blog about the Seattle concert - http://blog.naughtiest.us/2649

According to it, Sugizo played the Star Spangled Banner in his violin solo :D JrockRevolution confirms that in their report - http://www.jrockrevolution.com/index.php/webzine/feature-articles/1604-x-japan-live-report-seattle.html

Thanks to everyone for posting the videos. Yes, Sugizo did just slide right into the Star Spangled Banner during his solo and yes, it was f*ing awesome to hear the national anthem Sugizo-style. :)
