Well, it's confirmed, Yoshiki will be holding a panel with Stan Lee at NYAF/NYCC on Saturday, October 9 at 6:30. They'll probably talk about their collaboration. Unfortunately, this is uncomfortably close to the VAMPS concert, so I might not be able to make it... Oh well.
-
Yoshiki / Stan Lee > VAMPS :P
I dont have tickets for VAMPS, in fact i've never heard of them.. so i'll be at the panel :D
-
Bring us the latest then! :D
-
I wish I could be there :<
-
Bring us the latest then! :D
I'll try but I can't really use the data package on my iPhone abroad. It costs too much money. If the building has local computers or wifi then I'll be able to :-D
-
Oh Manhattan is totally full of open wi-fis xD Good luck with finding one, i'm looking forward to the news... :)
-
What i'm hopefully going to do is pick up a cheap prepaid mobile phone when i get to US and then set up my twitter with that mobile so i can just send twitter updates through SMS messaging.. that way I can tweet on the move :D

Stan Lee and Yoshiki were last together at MAX even back on July 1st 2010, as Stan Lee was put into one of X Japan's new music video and came to support the Yoshiki Foundation which was cool.
Now a day right before the Final US show he will be at NY comic con.......so wish I could go to this but anyone in New York will be able to see Yoshiki twice.
Heroman season 2 with X Japan anyone?? lol
-
Merged the topic with the old one.
Also it would be nice to include the source. - http://www.jrockrevolution.com/index.php/news/jrock-news/1605-x-japan-stan-lee-and-yoshiki-to-make-a-unique-announcement-at-new-york-comic-con.html

Any updates on this? I was at Comic Con earlier today and just completely ran out of gas, so I didn't stick around for the panel...it should've started 20 minutes ago!
-
Apparently....
Yoshiki Hayashi, the co-founder of the X Japan rock band, has announced at his New York Anime Festival/New York Comic Con panel on Saturday that he is collaborating with American comic creator Stan Lee on a music superhero comic book series. The comic series will be translated into various unspecified languages and adapted into a motion comic. Lee also appeared in X Japan's "Born to Be Free" music video.

This could be interesting, I'll keep my eyes open!
-
I've been waiting all day to know what happened at the conference! I can almost imagine Yoshiki as a superhero (though somehow he seems more a mastermind/Professor Xavier/X than a crime-fighting do-gooder). What would be his power...?
Hope someone posts video links...
-
*sigh*....I don't like this :P

Me neither, it´s slightly ridiculous - but who knows, maybe I will actually like the outcome in the end! :)

According to this source here http://www.examiner.com/japanese-culture-in-new-york/cosplaying-fan-girls-and-an-atypical-collaboration-at-nyaf-nycc , it actually WILL be yoshiki who's the super hero in the comic... >_<;;;
-
Lol, that article made me laugh so hard! If Stan Lee can´t even get Yoshiki´s name right it´s not exactly a promising start :D
-
LOL!!!
Yoshiki and Stan Lee may seem like an odd couple, but the two definitely have a rapport, even if Stan Lee called him "Takashi" and "Yokashi" before Yoshiki politely corrected him.
;D
No matter what he's called, it's clear that Yoshiki has a huge following, especially among Japanese women. A number of them had to be physically restrained before they were allowed to enter the room; then screaming and squealing ensued. They jumped over rows of chairs to get closer to their iconic hero. They yelled out his name. They told him they loved him. It's unclear if they heard the announcement, or if they even cared.
:( I hope not such actings in our Europe tour please!!!
-
This sounds immensley retarded.
-
This sounds immensley retarded.
What does that mean Ulquiorra? I don't know that expression.
-
This sounds immensley retarded.

He thinks it sounds stupid.
And yeah, Stan Lee is an old man. He can be forgiven for getting people's names wrong. It's not that he doesn't know Yoshiki's name, as I know for a fact he certainly does, I'd just imagine it's just momentary speach lapses, especially given that he gave two seperate wrong names XD
-
I also have to agree...this sounds pretty lame. I'm really not sure if this is the right way to get people to know about Yoshiki/X Japan here in the West. In a positive note, this is a HUGE deal, I mean come on, I'm no comic-fan but I understand how BIG Stan Lee is...so for the sake of how big this is for Yoshiki, I'm happy. As long as he keeps healthy, and continue touring the world and don't change the band too much from what it is now, I'll be happy forever.

Some more information about the project - http://www.roadrunnerrecords.com/blabbermouth.net/news.aspx?mode=Article&newsitemID=147454&utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+blabbermouth+%28Blabbermouth.net%27s+Daily+Headlines%29
-
And an even better article - http://www.japanator.com/nyaf-10-stan-lee-can-t-hear-sh-t-16864.phtml
-
The picture they choose on RoadRunner to represent Yoshiki left me more Speechless than the actual concept of the motion-comic.
-
This screams "publicity" rather than a very serious project... I'm kinda on the fence about this one, I don't want Yoshiki to make a fool of himself, but heck, he's probably doing whatever he wants because it's fun!
For some reason, I can imagine this superhero looking like the 80s Yoshiki with the stockings and banana hammock...
-
Haha well just let those two guys have fun. xD
I don't really know what to think of it either but I guess we just have to wait and see, as always :P

Q & A Yoshiki and Stan Lee ;D
-
This will be the craziest idea the two will put together and that will probably make it a dark horse idea, but X Japan an Yoshiki's fans will probably really want to see how this will be put together like me. I will check this out and go from there Stan Lee has had some great ideas in the past that included working on Heroman and Ultimo and marvel working licensing Iron Man and Wolverine over to Japan so the comic presence is just getting bigger and bigger.
I can somehow see this getting turned into an anime or live action
-
T-takashi? Yokashi...Toshiki...? makes me think of some kind of fangirl-wishful-thinking induced pairing. I'm glad that Yoshiki corrected him.
There's probably potential in there, given that it's Stan Lee and Yoshiki is such a perfectionist. We know virtually nothing about this project, but I think that as long as it's not too heavy/serious then it could be pulled off. I dig a superhero who's a part time musician, but a crime fighter with musical special powers..? (The picture is my head is a magical treble-clef beam a la Carebears :()
Thanks for the links Ann!
-
So its a motion comic, and Yoshiki's doing music for it and everything.
-
I'm just sad enough to buy this. :/ lol
-
I'm just sad enough to buy this. :/ lol
I think thousands will join you, but hey if a motion comic voiced and done by yoshiki will probably turn you from sad to an avid fan haha
-
I don't know what to think. Sorry i have been away for awhile.
-
everyone will have their own opinion heck i thought the yoshiki hello kitty and the gothic outfits shown at the Yoshiki foundation events were creepy and not my style, but after my friend bought me one I love my hello Yoshiki XD
I also save my opinions until the release of the comic/motion comic but expect it to be epic in one way or another
-
Very humorous video of the panel with Yoshiki and Stan Lee: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg8Y6Gg_LHs (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tg8Y6Gg_LHs)
-
But I thought Yoshiki was so busy with Violet UK =p
-
I don't know where to post this, it is an interview with Yoshiki yesterday in La at the 4th Annual Rock The Casbah to benefit Virgin Unite and the Eve Branson Foundation at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los Angeles

"Motion comic"? Is that like those. . . what-cha-call-its. . . those, you know. . . The closest thing I can think of is a "online graphic novel" where you can read it & there would be voice overs & there would be some music as well in the background. But, I could be wrong. . . Anyways, I'm seriously on the fence about this. Something about this doesn't bode well with me ((I think it's Lee's decision to do this was a throw outta left field for me, so I guess that's what is making me a little wary)). But I know that I'll probably get in the end only because I such a fan of Stan Lee's work.
-
I think it was a smart idea to use Stan Lee's new company to do this, while some of the more recent stuff done by the company hasnt been the greatest in America, in Japan it's done really well. Yoshiki and Stan Lee seem like a good US to Japan mix and yes the motion comic is pretty much what you described.
-

Ohhhhhh. . . **nods** I see. Hm. I just hope it's a free thing or it's fairly inexpensive then.
-
The comic will be revealed at this years San Diego Comic-Con - http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118035722?refCatId=16
-
6 months later, this project's still retarded.
-
@ Hypno - Err. . . I still don't know if I want it or not. . . |= /
I bet five bucks that it'll be as bad as the Backstreet Boys comic. Anyone want in on this?
-
Kurenai_Akari Ill take that bet, I think it has a chance to be good since its Yoshiki's super crazy creativeness and Stan Lee and his team's creativity, and ability, plus Stan himself is just Crazy as heck in a good way lol.
I'll be at SD CC so I will make sure to take a good look at what will be coming.
-
@ Jrockergirl - Sweet~ We have a own little gambling pool now, heheheheheh.
Arrrugh! I'm regretting not meeting Stan Lee now. . . Back in January, he was going to make an appearance nearby my Dad's place in L.A. & I really wanted to go meet Stan (and ask about the Yoshiki project), but you had to buy the tickets (which was only $30). Long story short, I didn't go. . . /gets shot for irrelevant story
-
http://twitter.com/TheRealStanLee
Seems like the comic will be based on an upcoming X Japan PV. I guess it will be Born to be Free, where Stan Lee plays the Satan...
-
OMK... they better release that one soon...gosh, X and procrastination >.>
-
sounds kinda cool, I remember seeing the image of Stan in a cape looking cool.
I figure we will see tons of Yoshiki's imagination and vampire style incorporated either way comic con is a bit more than a month away so then we will be able to say worth it or crap lol.
Its a mixed lot at his point, and id like to win my lil bet with Akari

Stan Lee & Todd McFarlane Team with Music Icon
Stan Lee, Todd McFarlane and international music superstar Yoshiki have paired up for an exciting new comic book series titled Blood Red Dragon, set to debut at the San Diego Comic-Con on July 21. The comic will star a superhero based on Yoshiki. IGN's got an exclusive first look at some concept art released by Todd McFarlane Productions.
Blood Red Dragon #0, according to the press release, "focuses on the origin of an ancient and benevolent force, locked in an epic battle with the dark armies of Oblivion. Creative expression and destiny collide, as once in a generation an individual is born with the potential to unlock the awesome might of the Blood Red Dragon, thus channeling a power beyond comprehension and assuming the mantle of Earth's protector.
When agents of Oblivion discover that the key to accessing the Blood Red Dragon's energy lays in music—the melodic heart of the human spirit, they launch a series of violent attacks on musicians across the globe. As he performs in front of a large crowd during the opening show of a massive world tour, drummer and keyboardist Yoshiki comes face-to-face with his destiny, experiencing a transformation that will forever change his life—and possibly the fate of the world. "
"I am extremely excited about Blood Red Dragon," said Lee. "Yoshiki's exceptional musical abilities, visual flair and passionate humanitarianism made him an amazing and inspiring collaborator and I think readers will experience every bit of that in the comics."
"Working with the one-and-only Stan Lee has been an incredible experience for me. He is truly a genius and one of the best storytellers living today," added Yoshiki. "I'm excited with the results of our efforts and look forward to the response from readers and music lovers around the world."
"Being able to collaborate with creators on a global level is always a thrill," said McFarlane. "Working with two big names, like Yoshiki and Stan Lee, I hope I'm able to add a little bit of my touch to a book that my, Stan's, but most importantly Yoshiki's fans will enjoy. At the same time, I hope this book helps introduce Yoshiki to fans that don't know him on American shores."
The panel will take place from 1-2 PM in the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel with Lee, McFarlane, Yoshiki and writer Jon Goff and will debut the first issue.

P.S.
Don't count your chickens before they've hatched!
-
with Todd Mcfarlane working on the project I imagine it being way more dark, Spawn-ish if you will mixed with Yoshiki's wanting to be a vampire and Stan Lee......before i thought Stan Lee and Yoshiki was a crazy mix, but I was wrong Mcfarlane and Lee are alone enough to make ppl go wow.
I'll be at the panel for sure to check this out.

Ehh.. It doesn't look anything like Yoshiki? :D
-
If that is Yoshiki, who wants to be "lean and wiry", I don´t want to know what muscular would look like ...
-
That's his alter-ego, the Blood Red Dragon. Gotta wait to see what Yoshiki himself looks like.
So lucky, my friend is going to ComiCon and I going to give him as much as he needs to get this comic... That, and McFarlane studios is based here in Arizona, so wudduuuup, I might swing on by the studio. =P Being an old huge fan of Spawn doesn't hurt, either.

really cool

very cool pic, I´m bit jealouse about skills like that, but only a bit, may be we can get some more please?
-
At first I was a bit scared about what would become of this project. But now it seems that the character design is fortunately a bit different than the traditional marvel-style. Yoshiki is not too muscular ^^. Can't wait for the actual story. I hope it's not too cliché.
PS. ForeverFades, cool pic & mad skills.

The more I think about my inability to go to this panel, the more depressed I get. XP
It's like... I was raised on Marvel Comics so Stan "The Man" Lee is a huge part of my childhood, I got into comics seriously with Spawn and I've met Todd McFarlane a few times, and Yoshiki is invariably a huge part of my life musically and emotionally, and it's like... These 3 people are a powerhouse to me, and to have them all in one room at the same time, it's just bringing me down a bit more than I thought it would. =P
Alas. My friend's going, hopefully he'll be able to give 'em that drawing with a note I left at the bottom... Yeah. Here's to hoping.

Thanks a lot for posting those videos, very interesting. I heard Stan Lee on press conferences before, he's pretty entertaining and seems to be a very kind guy.
They've sure got a dream team up there, comic book wise. I'm just not too convinced about the whole Yoshiki angle but time shall tell.
Without being mean, I must say I expected Yoshiki to be more fluent in English by now... I thought it was quite surprising to see how he struggled, weird.
Looking forward to this!

I think it depends how nervous he is. I've seen him speak completely fluent and flowing English in some interviews and then struggle like he only knows 10 words of English in others.

The tag is still in so the music hasn't been played yet... But... I dunno if I wanna pull it...
-
The has potential to not be terrible, sort of typical comic fare, but the artwork leaves a lot to be desired.. -_o
-
I was able to get 2 copies and one of them is signed, so I have one well protected and one to read. putting the tag back in was a bit hard so I was hearing the song for a good while lol.
but overall the comic #0 is pretty well done, the story is good, drawing are above average and yoshiki is amusing as a white blonde guy haha

Here’s a highlights reel of the Yoshiki/Stan Lee/Todd McFarlane “Blood Red Dragon” panel at this year’s San Diego Comic Con! Yoshiki, the leader/drummer/pianist of X Japan and one of Japan’s most influential rock musicians, was on hand to help introduce the new comic book “Blood Red Dragon,” where he plays himself as a superhero against a demonic realm. The comic is a collaboration between him and Marvel impresario Stan Lee, who seems to be endorsing everything these days.
It’s published by Todd McFarlane’s Image Comics and its preview issue—which everyone at the panel received—included a music chip that plays a 30 second piece written by Yoshiki for the comic.
For more Yoshiki goodness, check out the liveblog of this panel I did onsite, along with the impressive photo gallery below! (Photos by our very own Jeremy.)

began to sell the magazine
http://forbiddenplanet.com/76575-blood-red-dragon-0/
Some of the auctions for the #0 sold for 40 dollars on ebay in the last few days, I like sitting on mine one for personal one for sealed reasons in case it gets popular plus its signed ^^.
I heard Yoshiki is happy because the reviews on the comic have been very positive that even ppl who were doubters are giving this a good score.

I wonder what kind of publicity Yoshiki and his PR company will be doing for this comic. While the response from CC was very huge and I've seen some positive reviews for Blood Red Dragon, I imagine Yoshiki wants the word to go out as far as possible.
Something cool and over the top is what I imagine between yoshiki, Stan Lee and Mcfarlane.
