General chat / 2024 Activity Predictions
« on: January 04, 2024, 08:26:22 PM »
Happy New Year everyone!

I thought it might be interesting to get peoples’ thoughts on what might end up happening this year, in terms of activity. I think at this point we can use "X Japan" activity and "Yoshiki" activity interchangeably.

So here goes, perhaps we can do two lists, (3 items on each), one of what we realistically expect to happen, and a wish list of things that would be nice.

Towards the end of the year, I will review the thread and summarise how we have all got on!

Expected Activity:

 • Yoshiki releases the single, Requiem
 • "X Japan" perform at Heath's planned memorial summit, though Hyde will step in with vocals
 • The Last Rockstars will do further concerts, release 2 singles, (including the upcoming Tekken 8 theme), and announce an upcoming album release, (though it won't be released this year)

Wishlist:

I am going to keep this somewhat realistic!

 • All of X Japan's studio albums will become available on streaming services
 • Some sort of X Japan release will happen, though it will be either a re-release, or new compilation that may include some unreleased live recordings
 • The Last Rockstars will see some sort of physical release, whether it be a single, live video, or album

Get your bets in!

Yoshiki / Interview 25/02/22 on STATIONHEAD with Matt Pinfield
« on: February 26, 2022, 05:19:47 AM »
On 25/2/22, Yoshiki joined Matt Pinfield on STATIONHEAD for an interview.

Though it started off with a few technical hiccups on Yoshiki's side, the interview actually went really well, with Matt spending a good portion of the airtime asking Yoshiki questions that were submitted in the chat.

Topics of conversation were wide ranging and I am afraid I can't remember all that was discussed, but here are some highlights:

 • The purpose of the interview was to promote We Are X being released on Amazon Prime, 5 years after its initial debut.
 • The release of Under The Sky was also talked about, with Yoshiki again confirming it was coming, though no solid timeframe was given.
 • On the new X Japan album, Yoshiki confirmed that the delay was due to a variety of things, including COVID, but also confirmed that he is continuing to edit it. Not that it isn't complete, it is just that he admits to being a perfectionist and is still making adjustments here and there. (He mentioned working on Kiss the Sky before this interview.)
 • As to the release of X Japan's album, he advises that it is 100% coming out, he just can't say when. Though he hopes it is soon.
 • He actually invited Matt Pinfield to his studio in LA to hear the new album.
 • His solo projects were also discussed. He confirmed, though it hasn't been announced, that he will be performing a classical show somewhere in the US this year.
 • He also mentioned work on his "rock" solo album. I am assuming this is Violet UK. Even though fans have been waiting 20+ years, he still intends to release this as well.
 • As to what we can expect to see in the next 6 months or so, he mentioned that he is somewhat confused at the moment, not too sure what direction to head, though his main goal is to please his fans.
 • Something interesting to note, he mentioned priorities and that his solo album, (Violet UK, I didn't get the impression it was Yoshiki Classical 2), was a higher priority release that X Japan? That was the impression I got, anyway.

I have to say, that was the most enlightening interview I have heard with Yoshiki in a very long time. It did give me confidence that we will see new releases at some point in the near future, when is anybodies guess.

If anyone else listened, feel free to add further to the above. Unfortunately, I don't think STATIONHEAD keeps radio shows to be streamed at a later date.

Yoshiki / Yoshiki & Sarah Brightman
« on: September 13, 2018, 10:08:25 AM »
At his press conference today, Yoshiki announced he would be performing with Sarah Brightman on a song featured on her new album, Hymn, out soon.

After a little snooping, it looks like she will be performing a version of “Miracle”. See below Twitter video.

Toshi / Toshl New Single: Gunjo no Yugure (Release 25/03/15)
« on: January 23, 2015, 02:09:37 AM »
Toshl will release his new single, Gunjo no Yugure, on the 25th of March, a month after his collaborative track with sukekiyo.

The single will come as a 2 disc set, with the following track list:

DISC 1: CD

1. 群青の夕紅れ (Gunjo no Yugure)
2. 未来をEYEしてる (Previously released digitally only in 2014)
3. 群青の夕紅れ (Karaoke Version)
4. 未来をEYEしてる (Karaoke Version)

DISC 2: DVD

1. made in HEAVEN (Footage from his live performance at ZEPP Diver City last August)

There has been no announcement of a digital release yet.

This is an interesting release in terms of the DVD footage. I am not too sure how music rights work but since he has performed songs from his 90's solo career (broadcast on niconico from the Crystal Night concert) and is now releasing footage on DVD, does this mean that perhaps there is a chance his 90's albums will have a re-release? I hope so...

Merchandise / Great Catalogue of X Japan and Member's Items!
« on: February 06, 2014, 08:56:22 PM »
While working on the X Japan Wiki, I have come across a site that seems to have a good amount of photos on the releases of X Japan and it's members. I'm not sure if this person owns it all but judging by the backgrounds the items are sitting on, they own most of it...it's amazing! And the photos are all high quality too! I spent a good hour going through all the images on the blog and found out so much! I didn't realise that the "Message from X" CD's they gave to fan club members were actually Mini CDs, housed in little tins. Check this out!:

General chat / X Japan English Wikia
« on: January 31, 2014, 12:17:20 AM »
Hey,

This is a open invitation to all forum readers and X Japan fans. I myself have been a fan of X Japan for over 6 years now. Being a fan of a foreign band is sometimes challenging, especially when trying to find out more about them. Over the last few years since their reunion, X Japan have aimed for a global market and it has made it easier to get new, and accurate, information from the band and its members themselves. However, this information is scattered all over the web! Forums like this one, X Boards etc. do a good job at holding a lot of information, in an informal, roughly organized way.

I have decided to start up a wikia page, x-japan.wikia.com. I want this page to be a place where as much information as the net has to offer on our favorite band is put here. It is open for all to edit, and I hope you do so!

At the moment it is rather bare...I did just start it an hour ago. So jump in and help out with the fun! If anyone would like to design some logos/images/banners for the site, that would be great! PM me or reply here.

Thanks!,

Yoshiki / Yoshiki Classical Performances 2014
« on: January 30, 2014, 12:23:42 AM »
Dates for Yoshiki Classical performances have started popping up around the web, with tickets also going on sale. By the looks of it, there are going to be quite a few Classical concerts happening during the first half of the year, so I thought I would create a topic that consolidates all of these performances into one thread.

As has been mentioned on Xplosion Online, tickets have started going on sale, as well as the announcement of future concert dates. Although there hasn't been any official word from Yoshiki himself in any social media (as of 30th Jan) relating to particulars, with ticket sales going ahead, you can be sure these dates are solid.

Based on all the dates I am assuming a set up like the Grammy Museum one last year, with Yoshiki on piano and a string ensemble. I feel it would be too costly to travel with an entire orchestra. He could organise the local orchestras to accompany him, but with the dates below, I don't think there would be much time to practice with each one?

So far, the concerts are as follows:

LA, 19th February

Setlist:
1. Forever Love
2. Golden Globe Theme
3. Red Rhapsody (Violet UK)
4. I.V.
5. Art of Life
6. Endless Rain
Austin, 14th March *Part of SXSW* (Include a X Japan announcement!)
Costa Mesa, April 25th
San Francisco, 28th April
Mexico, 1st May
Toronto, 10th May
Moscow, May 21st
Berlin, May 23rd
Paris, May 26th
London, May 29th
Shanghai, 6th June
Beijing, 8th June

I will update the list as more dates and news are announced and, when the concerts occur, will try and round up as much footage / info of the nights as possible.

Yoshiki / Yoshiki Headphones
« on: December 11, 2013, 08:21:44 PM »
It has been known for a while now, via photos from Twitter, that Yoshiki will soon be releasing his own headphones. Today in Japan, (12/12/13), Yoshiki will be at an unveiling event in Tokyo where more information about the headphones will be given. From what I can tell so far from the posts on his Twitter account, the headphones are actually a Limited Edition of Soul Electronics headphones. In particular, the SL150 range (see link below). So I'm guessing that they will just be branded with Yoshiki's name and chosen color (red)?

Toshi / ToshI Official App
« on: June 10, 2013, 11:03:01 PM »
UPDATE: It's my understanding that the app has been released for Android devices on the Google Play store. iOS version will be coming out soon for Japan and then worldwide. The app does have a cost, so it will be interesting to see if it will end up being worth its purchase in the future. Staff have mentioned on FB that there has already been a recording been made of Toshi performing a song whilst playing the piano, so it will be cool if this app does become a source of original footage like this.

Toshi to be releasing an official app for iOS and Android devices soon. It will include exclusive concert footage, behind the scenes footage, message videos and photos of Toshi's work, including photos from X Japan's previous world tours. It is uncertain whether or not it will be released worldwide like his music has been lately, but I am assuming it will be considering the news has shown up on the English version of his website.

It is nice to see Toshi become more active recently and even making attempts to be more communicative with his audience other the internet.

Toshi / NEW RELEASE: CRYSTAL ROCK (Concept Album)
« on: June 04, 2013, 08:37:26 PM »
So it looks like Toshi is set to release some new material again, and soon! The worldwide release date for the digital download is the 12th of June, and pre orders for the CD will also begin on that date. The 3 track EP, which will be available on worldwide digital music stores such as iTunes and Amazon, is in the form of a concept album. The track list is below:

1. "CRYSTAL ROCK Chapter 1" SAILING TO THE END OF THE WORLD
2. "CRYSTAL ROCK Chapter 2" ETERNAL LIFE
3. "CRYSTAL ROCK Chapter 3" RED TEARS OF THE SKULL

The story behind the concept of the album is of a man's journey to find eternal life, leading him to transform into a skull. More information on the story and tracks can be found here: http://toshi-samuraijapan.com/en/info/002.html

It seems that this release is a tie in with a new brand being launched in Japan, called BEAUTIFUL SKULL CRYSTAL ROCK GENERATION. It looks like they make a mix of fashion, jewellery and even chocolates. Their site can be found here:
http://beautifulskull-crystalrock-generation.jp/menu.htm

As a side, on the brand website, under music, it lists Toshi's new album with a "to be continued" after that. Whether that signifies Toshi will be releasing more "chapters" to this story, or whether other artists will be contributing remains to be seen.

Not too sure if I'm that keen on artists doing brand tie ins to the extent of writing music with lyrics specifically for it but I'll hold my reservations until I have heard the album mid next week.

P.S. I have a feeling that Toshl is involved in this brand somehow...also, if you have a spare 15,000 to 21,000 yen (~$150 - $210 USD), the chocolates look nice... :P

General chat / May 20th, 2013 Press Conference, Tokyo
« on: May 05, 2013, 11:02:29 AM »
It has been announced through Twitter that the press conference that was meant to be held last month is being rescheduled for the 20th of May. Hopefully there will be news as to what X Japan's future plans are.

I thought I would start a new topic for this conference as I am really, really, really hoping that we will all hear what we have been waiting to hear since 2008. When will X Japan release their worldwide debut album?

As a side note, not long after announcing the new date for the press conference, Yoshiki posted this message: "いいニュースだとは言ってない". As I don't speak Japanese and can only go on what Google translate has given, could someone please translate this into English? The Google translate gives...a rather negative message.

Well, I live in New Zealand, and am currently a full time student at Auckland University. I finished High School in '07, but took 2 years off to work full time and travel a bit. I finally got bored and so...at the start of this year I started my uni education and am loving it!...I also quit my job and am enjoying...just being a student :P

What about you guys?

Other Bands / Inoran
« on: March 06, 2010, 02:18:08 AM »
On the 10th of March, Inoran will release his 5th studio album, Watercolor. For those of you who don't know, (how can't you!), Inoran was rhythm guitarist for legendary "ex" visual kei, rock band, Luna Sea. He has been doing solo works for a long time now, releasing his first solo album, titled "Sou" in 1997.

I first heard Inoran's music a few months back, one of the first songs being "raize". I was straightaway pulled into it because it was the first time that I have really noticed a turntable being used in rock music.....that actually sounds cool. The next thing was his voice. It definately is different from all other singers I have heard. If I were to describe it...I would say it can come across sounding, at times, whiny and annoying....without being either of those things, (if that makes sense...).

Here is the PV for raize for those of you who want to hear this great song:

Also, for those interested in his latest material, you can find samples to his songs on his myspace, and order his latest album, due to be released next week, at CDJapan.

Offtopic / Chinese New Year Festival
« on: February 27, 2010, 01:08:07 AM »
Starting last night, and for the next two days, the annual Lantern Festival began in Auckland, New Zealand. I have never been to a lantern festival before and had a great time. It was extremely crowded but the lanterns and live music were worth the wading through the masses.

Here are some pictures:

One of the groups that performed were a Mogolian Folk group called Hanggai, who I thought were great! Have a check out of their myspace page and listen to a few of their tracks.

Has anyone else been to their local lantern festival and taken some photos? Show them here!

Toshi / 武士JAPAN (ToshI's Final Solo Release)
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:01:03 AM »
Thought I might as well start a thread about the release. Even though it was advertised as a limited, 2000 copy, release, the limit has been removed and orders are being taken again. For those of you who don't know, this mini album contains four songs, all composed by ToshI, after being sick in hospital at the end of 2009. Guest musician's are Pata on guitar and Sugizo on violin.

Tracklist:

1.エアポート (Airport)
2.雨音 (Amaoto / Sound of Rain)
3.武士JAPAN (Bushi JAPAN / Samurai JAPAN)
4.春の息吹 (Haru no ibuki / Breath of Spring)

After having a listen to the CD, I feel that it Toshi has been influenced by both his 90's and his healing career. The second track, Sound of Rain, definately sounds similar to that of Masaya's healing styling, both in the song structure and vocals. Airport, my favorite track on the album, starts off with some interesting harmonized vocals in the beginning, and the song stays interesting enough for the 4 or so minutes....(sorry, what with my dislike of his 8-14 minute, repeteative healing songs, I like his songs that reveal all they have in 4 or so minutes with a minimum amount of repetition.) Samurai JAPAN sounds like a T-Earth song, with some shouting here and screaming there. Great fun that, again doesn't drag on. The final track, Breath of Spring, is a great song and, like all the tracks on the album, is very thin in its texture. Just a guitar and vocals. Very nice final track that ends his solo career nicely.

Overall, it is a great way for him to say goodbye. Sure, the production hasn't been dragged out, with nothing fancy, but it is that that makes this album good. Very simple songs that really show off his vocals. (Something I found interesting is that in the first track, ToshI goes to hit some high notes that he purposely, I assume, hits weakly....at first this showed to me a weak side to his voice but....upon hearing it again....sounds very effective....)

O well, for those of you that wasted your time reading this, tell me what you think about the album and discuss here. I would like to hear peoples opinions on his vocal work here and if they thought it was a good way for him to finish an....interesting....career.

Toshi / Toshi's Recent Song Structures
« on: July 31, 2009, 11:16:41 AM »
With a new T-Earth album and single on it's way, Toshi is one of the X artists that has actually been active in the releasing and creating of new material ever since X Japan reunited last year. I am constantly checking up on his progress, eagerly awaiting his releases. Before X's reunion, I never really paid attention to any of Toshi's past releases after their 1997 breakup. Listening to partial parts of his "healing" music, I found it to be too...slow, and somewhat repetitive. Earth in the Dark changed my opinion.

I have to say that ever since his new music has come through, both his solo stuff and T-Earth, Earth in the Dark has been the only song that I can say contains some magic to it. It doesn't seem to drag on and is well thought out in terms of arrangement. Once I heard this song, I decided to give his past healing music a try and am happy to say, I wasn't disappointed.

Perfect Love, Beautiful Love Song & Inochi are just a few of my favorites. I found his music to be both extremely beatiful and the way he used his voice was amazingly powerful, even if at times it was a mere whisper.

In saying this, I am truely amazed at the songs he preforms now, highlights being his duets with his wife. My only complaint is that I find his music to be highly simple in how they are arranged, turning out being highly repetitive. It is fare to say that most of his solo songs now go for 7 plus minutes and all of them, consist of verse, chorus, verse, chorus, verse, chorus....etc.

When listening to previews of T-Earth songs, you can hear great ideas in each song, but once you listen to the full thing, these ideas are overused, without going through any change.

Don't get me wrong, I love Toshi's music and voice, I just find that if he cut the song times in half, the power and beauty of his music would be more concentrated, not dragged out. Does anyone else feel the same? Opinions on his music would be appreciated!

P.S. After listening to his latest solo song いつまでも in full, it comes in just under 5.5 minutes. It has a beautiful chorus, with a hint of his old healing music singing style coming through. But yet again, it consists of chorus, verse, chorus, verse etc. all the way through....

Other Bands / Juichi Morishige & Ziggy
« on: July 16, 2009, 09:33:19 AM »
Just recently I discovered the band Ziggy and their singer Juichi Morishige's music. I was immediately hooked and bought his greatest hits album almost straight away. Unfortunately, Ziggy and their singer are pretty much unknown outside Japan as far as I can tell, due to the fact that I have found nothing about them in English.

From reading short summaries about their CDs on CDJapan and HMV, I have come to conclude that they have been around since the 80's and have continued to preform and release music. If anyone knows anything, I would greatly appreciate it.....

P.S. After watching a performance of Gloria live, I thought I saw someone familiar on drums...apparently, Joe from hide with spread beaver is part of Ziggy!

On another note, he also appears to be releasing a new single on the same day!

According to Toshi's Official Website, he will be releasing a new album next month, with pre-orders currently being taken from TOSHI NET MEMBERS.

I have been waiting for a new album from him for quite a while, considering the amount of singles he has released since last year, starting with Earth in the Dark. I only hope that this album contains all of them to date, so I don't have to spend loads on buying each single....

Tracklisting:

Found this clip on YouTube from the `1991 Extasy Summit. It has Toshi with the vocalist from Ladies Room singing that Beatles classic, Helter Skelter. Very Awesome!

Toshi / Toshi feat. HALKA
« on: April 27, 2009, 11:11:25 AM »
Reading from Toshi's latest blog post, it appears he will be preforming with HALKA, a 16 year old girl with an absolutely beautiful voice. She can sing not only in Japanese but English, Chinese and German and has won various competitions within and out of Japan. To hear more of her, visit her CDBABY page where you can hear her cover of Toshi's Beautiful World.

Toshi / 大地をしずめて (Toshi's 2nd Duet CD)
« on: March 28, 2009, 12:11:25 AM »
大地をしずめて has been released for download on HWch and will become available on CD on the 9th of April.

This is his healing career at its best. After hearing the sample on the site, then downloading the whole song, it simply blew me away. Wanku has a voice that goes great with Toshi and the music is amazing. GET IT!
