In regards to the Dahlia rock songs personally I think their more similar to the Violet UK stuff than old Taiji-era X

Yeah, exactly. I've read too (and from reliable sources) that Taiji and hide pushed for more rock and fewer ballads, and I guess hide alone wasn't enough (unfortunately) to hold back the ballad tsunami.
