I've been gone for a while, been going through a lot of changes musically.   My ipod used to be mostly JRock, now there's barely any on it (X Japan and a few others got to stay).   Just wanted to say hi again and see whats been going on with the rest of you?

Anyone else heard of this guy?  He's this crazy awesome violinist from Hungry.  Here's a sample.

I just ordered two of his CDs and I'm really excited to get them.  One of them has 28 musicians in the credits O_O.  Thank goodness they're not all playing for every song, as crazy as I like my music I think that'd be a bit too much for me.  But there should be some good diversity between songs so I'm excited!

Help / Issues logging in
« on: July 01, 2007, 10:13:36 PM »
For some reason the past few weeks I've had issues logging in, It seems to be quite random.  When I click log in it does everything as it normally would except I'm not logged in like I should be.  No matter how many times I log in and no matter from where it won't let me in.  Sometimes I have to restart my computer several times before I can finally log in.  Anyone else have this issue, or know how I can fix it?

I barely hear any mention of a CD coming out, and I really want to hear what this band's sound is like.  Anyone have any about when it should be coming out?

This is a new Australian metal band that is gaining popularity really quickly.  They kind of remind me of X Japan in that they have really long complex compositions, that are metal but take influences from other genres and also utilize other instruments such as acoustic guitar and violin in slower more emotional portions.  Also their drummer was a finalist in the worlds fastest drummer competition in Australia.  Biggest difference though is that they're really hardcore black metal rather than X Japan's older speed metal.

Not trying to say these guys are as good as X, but if you like modern black metal and X Japan's style you might like these guys too.

Travelled there all the way from New Jersey and WOW was it worth it.  Absolutely amazing show I almost don't know where to begin expect to say all the bands were amazing.  I've got lots of pictures but most of them are crappy quality cause of how far back my seat was, but I'll post some later if any are salvagable.  For now I'll describe Miyavi's preformance since it pertains most to X Japan, if you guys wanna know any other details just ask.

Okay, so Miyavi comes on stage but he's not with his band, but rather with some hip-hop preformers instead, and he has his accoustic guitar.  Theres a beat boxer, a tap dancer(street/ghetto style tap, don't know the official term for it, but he had a wooden platform and a mic by his feet), turn tablist(?), bassist, a drummer, and oddly enough a painter.

He did remixed versions of Selfish Love, Rock and Roll is Not Dead, and 1 other song I couldn't identify.  He also gave everyone except the drummer a chance to preform a solo, and they were all really talented, (even the painter got a solo).

Then he made the announcement about his new band with Yoshiki, Sugizo, and Gackt.  Then Sugizo came on stage and joined the strange band and was completely amazing.  Him and Miyavi played back to back and it was honestly the most amazing preformance I've ever seen in my life.  Then as if it could get any better the Miyavi Symbol in the back of the stage lifted and a platform was rolled in with a Drummer who had an Odaiko, and 4 smaller taikos for his drum set.  They then did an encore of Are You Ready To Rock? With the new drums.  Some of the beast music I've ever heard, it was amazing.  Miyavi also succeeded in being the only artist the whole night that could get the fans to sing a long(since Are You Ready To Rock? is in english).

After that outstand preformance, the band left except Miyavi and Sugizo and then Yoshiki came on stage and stood with them.  Yoshiki said the Gackt couldn't make it but he says "Hi", and then announced that they'd be preforming at the Anime Expo.  Miyavi and Sugizo left the stage and Yoshiki thanked all the fans from coming and asked where everyone was from.  It was a very emotional and touching moment.  I HAD SO MUCH FUN!!!

Offtopic / Help Educate me on What good guitar skill is please
« on: February 08, 2007, 01:07:56 AM »
I'll be the first person to admit I don't know all that much about music, and if a player is good or bad.  When I listen to music I usually listen to the style and whether music sounds good to me or not.  My biggest issue with music is I get bored very quickly with most songs and only songs that try to be new and different seem to grab my attention.

I really like the sound of X's speed metal, and I like the way they blend classical music into it to.  But I don't know why they're considered to be a really good band, I just like how they sound.

From what I've heard there are several things that influence how good a guitarist is.

One being speed, which it seems like people consider sepperate from technical ability.  Like people might say a guitarist is a good shredder, but not necessarily good at playing their instrument.  I know X can play fast, but they're not the fastest ever so theres more to the playing than that.

The other term I hear a lot is a person's emotion they put into their playing.  This seems to be something more abtract than other aspects and more of a feeling than something you can measure.  Seems like you can kind of tell by watching them play.  And when I listen to X live it seems to give me the feeling of being more powerul or having more feeling, but I could never say whether one guitarist has more emotion than another.

And the last thing I hear is technical ability, which I think is associated with how hard something is to play, but having never touched a guitar I don't really know whats hard to play and what isn't.  And, I have no idea whats involved in this.

I'm still going to listen to the music I like, but when my friends talk about guitar skill I feel like an idiot.  And when I recommend X to someone I can tell them that X is very skilled because I know they are.  But thats not the reason why I like them, and I don't know why they are considered to be skilled.

On the other hand I listen to J Rock only because I (in most cases) find the songs to be more interesting than other music and they usually keep my attention better.  When I tell my friends this and give them some music to listen to, they say theres nothing different about it other than the words being in a different language.

I know what I like in music, but I want to know more about music as a whole.  If anyone could try and help educate me in what other people enjoy in music it would make it easier to me to discuss music with some people and I think give me a bigger appreciation of music.

Any help is much appreciated.

I know this isn't an album or a single, but there's no forum for individual songs so I'll just post here.

Anyone else think this is a kick ass song?  I love songs that try to switch things up and sound new and different.  So much to be said about this song I don't know where to begin.  The singing at the very start reminds me of a southern baptist choir.  I love how it starts slow then goes into some kick ass drum work (and I'm not too good at discerning individual instruments but is that a bit of harmonica I'm hearing? It's a nice touch to the song), then how after the drum work it has a lot more power and speed than in the start.  The rest of the song is great too.  Anyone else agree?

I really like this band a lot, but I don't usually hear much about them when people are discussing JRock.  Curious what the opinion over here is of them.

Albums/Singles / Song Question
« on: January 26, 2007, 12:01:43 PM »
Not sure if this belongs here or not, but when downloading music I found Holy Lonely Light by X Japan.  However it's not mentioned in any discography and when googled it appears to have been done by another band.  When I google Holy Lonely Light and X Japan it seems to come up on a lot of people's playlists as being done by them, but it is never mentioned in any article as being one of their songs.

Does anyone know if X Japan ever did a cover of this song or why it's being confused as one of their songs?
