Albums/Singles / Break The Darkness (b-side)
« on: August 18, 2008, 04:19:18 PM »

Break The Darkness is one of those songs that don't really fit in anywhere partly because the lyrics cannot be heard when it's sung live and it really only get's it's aggressiveness and flair from the parts where you can shout "Break! Break!" or "Fire grow up from the ground." The song got faster and better while Toshi's voice matured but ultimately it didn't fit into X's repertoire anymore. It's one of those herky-jerky songs like 'Feels Damage' or 'Phantom Of Guilt' in my eyes. The song received a little revival (or funeral) later on in an attempt to give it a twist, with a drum guided intro accompanied by a guitar. Excellent examples can be found on the 1987.11.24 (Meguro Rokumeikan) and 1988.06.07 (Shibuya Egg Man) concerts.

When reading the lyrics, my interpretation generates the following; A howling wolf is prowling around in a destroyed city. The gray crows want his victims for their own desire. The people, who's dreams are lost, pass him by. Hungry for blood, his razorsharp teeth are ready to strike. He's not affraid for his own death, even if it may come tomorrow. The people, who's dreams are lost, pass him by. When he looks at his victims with a glare in his eyes, he attacks them.

A classic story of the crow and the wolf. A story that I have been told as a kid, and one that appeared in childrens books (In many variations of course since this interpretation of the lyrics only highlights the relation between these two animals). If you ever need something to do and you like reading, do a search for Wolf's and Corvid's (Crows and Ravens):

Quote from: Jila, Namu. Asian Folklore Studies
On the whole, the wolf and the crow appear to be mysterious beings in the myths and legends of peoples of the Altaic language group. Therefore, it is possible to think of them as being objects of belief, and that these beliefs as well as the myths and legends are ultimately based on the relationship between wolf and crow favored in nature. The legends of the Wu-sun and the Mongols are only one example of this. It is therefore likely that the people who have been observing the relationship since ancient times have thought of it as something remarkable. Thus they made the combination of these animals an object of their beliefs and a symbol of their social group.

So yeah.. this is basically what keeps me busy how bizarre it even seems. I doubt there are alot of people who would have wanted to create a thread like this after listening to Break The Darkness. This is how I generally spend my time (hours) being quite obsessive in something completely unimportant such as this. I guess I just am a little insane after all. The other two paragraphs likely refer to earthquakes or bombings. When I first read the lyrics it made me think of a scene in 'The Neverending Story (1984)' where the G'mork is in a cave when Atreyu approaches him and the whole place is falling apart. Anyway, just wanted to clear my head with all of this.

"There is an intricate relationship between the crow and the wolf. They hunt together, eat together and depend on one another for safety." --subtext to this painting. ©Bonnie Marris.
"When the wolf brings food, it is distributed and eaten by all; if the raven brings food, he eats it alone on a treetop" --Mahmud al-Kashgari

General chat / An attempt at writing lyrics for "A Night"
« on: March 27, 2007, 10:38:35 PM »
I made a line break at the moment toshi pauses in his sentence, this makes it a little easier.  And I also added numbers for easy reference. Naturally EVERYTHING is not certain 100% exept for a few sentences that are very clearly spoken! I put an asterix behind those that I think are pretty much correct. Feel free to speak your mind, and help make it more complete if possible.

This is from the short version of the supposed Osakajou song. Check my post here to see why I think it's supposed. I have used the original file, but you guys can use this YouTube link as well.

01. <inaudible>
02. (...) for you
03. <inaudible>
04. (...) beating my heart
05. falling down, with all of you
06. (...), is changing my heart
07. I take you away from (...) world
08. And now you know that you can(...) me
09. Steal your heart
--
10. Hope is gone, you have changed *
11. But this time, you can't (...)
12. Come on now! Let me go! *
13. Don't call me baby. *
14. Let you go
15. I gave you all of the (...) I (...) had
16. And now you know that you can(...) me
17. Steal your heart (see notes 09.)
--. repeat
18. <inaudible>
19. You must think you're my (...) your world
--  Come on..

<inaudible> = I cannot make up words
(...) = inaudible part of a sentence
ITALIC = A guess obviously. But I put it down because it's not far from the real thing, or something I'm doubting about.

Notes on:
01. (...) dream? can't hear it.
05. I think it's 'all of you' since 'of' is not spoken with an f.
07. this could be 'destructing' or maybe 'this dropping' world, with reference to 05.
08. can or can't.. love/let/leave? '..can let me.. steal your house' haha
09. could be a lot of things; "still in your heart" (silent 'in') 'Steal your hope' or anything close.
14. 'and'/'let'/'right' .. don't know. In the 1985.06.29 version it seems to be 'let'
15. 'The shit I ever had' Probably close.
16. This sounds more like: 'And now you know that you can't lay a egg'
19. Not really sure about the whole sentence really.. but I put it there because then again it DOES sound like it. Thats the weird thing about it. I listened to it the most of all, but I can't make anything of it yet.

Toshi / Ex-vocalist of 'X Japan' escapes prosecution over defamation
« on: March 24, 2007, 06:50:03 PM »
I understand now what the topic was of the new message on Toshi's website:

Quote
Prosecutors have decided not to indict a former vocalist of the popular rock group "X Japan" and an organizer of a special "self-education" meeting after a lawyer filed a complaint against them.

Lawyer Masaki Kito had filed a complaint against the former vocalist and the organizer of the meeting because he said the two had damaged his reputation on a web site.

Kito had already reported the "Home of Heart" group that runs the self-education meetings to law enforcers, claiming that it separates children from communities and keeps them in cardboard boxes.

In a related development, a woman who took part in one of the group's meetings sued it, saying that she was forced to pay a huge sum of money.

The Tokyo District Court ordered the group in February to pay some 15 million yen to the woman. The group has appealed the ruling.

Toshi / Just thinking.. like I always do hehe
« on: March 22, 2007, 10:24:13 PM »
So Toshi is active again and many hearts around the world are warmed by the news of the rejoined core of X. Including myself of course couldn't be happier. Home Of Heart and the Toshi Office seem very co-operative yet still somewhat protective and shielding.

I.. can see Toshi doing many wonderful thing in the precious time to come and I'm happy for that too, but Toshi still has his own ties with the Office and a concert schedule. I guess what I'm trying to bring out it that.. would it be a good or a bad thing if Toshi made a new album on Home Of Heart, since partially, although I might not really want it to be, this is good publicity for Toshi and in the end for the Office?

Would the sales go up and what would be in it for them? I mean that.. I just never saw them so open.. so quick, so helpful and encouraging I guess. I don't know if I'm really saying anything since most of the time I just write down my thoughts, but this sort of stuck in my head throughout the day...

.. just a ramble. Or "hersenspinsel" as they would say in dutch :P

P.S.: Watching Lost got me started to think of this actually, for they had a quote: "They make it believe it's your idea, but it's really theirs."

Pictures/Galleries / Arena37°c "The Greatest History & Interview"
« on: March 11, 2007, 08:16:32 PM »
Ok. I started scanning these for PanthereNoir after I did a few others from earlier in the magazine (They have been removed by sendspace, but I will reupload them per request).

The magazine is only 1cm bigger in width than A4 which leaves me 0,5 on each side, and that's just enough to be able to scan it on an A4 scanner. The only problem is that the spine of the magazine is in the way (the pages curl up) so it's hard to get the last line of text on the scanner.

There is a total of 23 pages. 8 'parts' of history, a Rose & Blood Yoshiki Interview (Rock Genie), 'Jealousy' Interviews with all members, X 'LA Life' section, a few pages dating from 1993 and a timetable (What's hide's birthday again? Not Dec. 19 is it?).

Well anyway that's what I'm trying to scan as good as possible even though 9 out of 10 times a scan fails. Here is the few few pages that I think are acceptable (1-6, 8); Arena37c-batch1.rar - 8mb

This is also a call to Sander to fix the HTML bug in this part of the forum. The options say HTML is on, and the box "Disable HTML in this post" is not ticked. Yet it doesn't show.

Other Bands / Animetal / Guntlet Draw / Sekiri / Sabbrabells / Serpent
« on: February 19, 2007, 12:42:52 PM »
FYI: These are all CD's I got recently. I put up single tracks so people can explore some taste or whatever :)

Animetal -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/rabzh6 (1996, first single \m/)
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2228/animetalladygd7.jpg

"Animetal (アニメタル) is a Japanese novelty heavy metal band who specialize in metal covers of the theme songs of classic and modern Japanese anime and tv series. Their music can be classified as high-energy melodic speed metal with a very high level of musical virtuosity. The albums are structured as nearly seamless barrages of short songs woven into well-structured medleys."

Guntlet Draw -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/jmdkvb (1996)

"An unknown band to me. They are around the Hiroshima area where this indie CD release on Python Records was recorded. Band consists of Heidi, You-Ki, Chako, Susumu & Q. Photo's on the insert show small venues like Live Station and Rokumeikan. Guntlet Draw play a mix of Saber Tiger and Anthem style music."

Sekiri -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/ftzbua
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/5027/sekirigk5.jpg

"Raucous, trashy girlpunk from Osaka, specializing in tasteless, foul-mouthed songs about sex, drugs and rock & roll."

Sabbrabells -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/dvrwsb (1986)
http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/2482/sabbrabellsln6.jpg

"Sabbrabells was a heavy metal band with a satanic and theatrical image originally founded in 1980, under the name of Reading. In 1982 when they started playing in Tokyo the name was changed. They played outstanding fast heavy metal (later on more towards power metal) with shades of  NWOBHM, and from their debut LP in 1983 up to 1987 they were among the best in their genre together with the likes of Reaction, Anthem, Sniper, Crowley and Genocide."

Serpent -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/j7rlnl (2005)
http://www.myspace.com/serpentjp

"Serpent is a Melodic Death Metal band hailing from Kobe, Japan. Serpent started off as a Heavy Metal band, but the whole music style changed when Keija listened to one of the In Flames songs in some CD store. The new style is close to old In Flames."

Other Bands / Passion Rose / Taiho / Magenda / Reds / Locks / Big Bad Bill
« on: February 18, 2007, 07:01:54 PM »
Magenda -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/5862v1 (1990)

"All-female Japanese hard rock band. The six songs on this CD have a playing time of a little over twenty minutes. The music of MAGENDA could be described as a catchy style of rock with references to bands like KISS, Bon Jovi, Suzi Quatro, Girlschool, or Runaways."

Taiho -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/grq7qi (1999)

"Metallic hard/thrashcore along the lines of Biohazard. Heavy and chugging, with a vocalist that sounds remarkably like Lemmy from Motorhead. Produced by Larry of the Garlic Boys. Featuring UNITED guitarist Shingo Otani as a guest. (Together with members of Space Combine & Panorama Afro)."

Passion Rose -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/7u463q (1991)

"The only album released by one of the top glam/sleaze rock acts in the late-80's Japan. Very few Japanese bands managed to play in such uncompromising and appealing way. PASSION ROSE would be a true wonder of glam rock world if they were Americans. But an overseas location was not the only problem with this band [...]"

Red Warriors (Red's) -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/1el1cq (1987)

"Also known as 'Red's', Red Warriors were formed in 1985 by Kogure Takehiko (ex. Rebecca). The Red's had a characteristic american rock sound. They would reform a few times in the 90's but have completley stopped activity in 2003. Casino Drive is their second album."

The Locks -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/kxline (1990)
http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/3613/00locksou5.jpg

Indie album release of this Hard rock/Power pop band from Tokyo. Don't know much about them. Check the pic.

Big Bad Bill -- http://www.sendspace.com/file/51t8o5 (1995)
http://img217.imageshack.us/img217/7923/bbbillhq5.jpg

"Indie mini-album release from a Tokyo based hard-rock band; Ryuji Himekawa: Vocal, MAKARONI: Guitar, Masahiro Jigen: Bass, Masashi Yoshida: Drums"

Taiji / Voiceless (Dirty Trashroad Acoustic)

DTR Cover from Voiceless Screaming. Toshi's lyrics have been replaced.

http://www.sendspace.com/file/xze9cr

Can't let go. I can't let go
Countless nights fell like a bottomless pit
I still hear your voice, I still feel your style
You and your innocence still linger on

Someone taps me on my shoulder
I turn around I find nobody there
I know so well I can't see you again
Your warmth has left me for heaven above

Please free me from illusions of you
Save me from the lonliness deep inside of me
The sun has left me to wallow in the dark
Got no shoulder to lean on to weep
Whimpers of silence got nowhere,
nowhere left to go.

*Voiceless cries weep inside of me
Too deeply felt to let go
Voiceless voice screams
Inside my soul
A song torn apart in the night

*Repeat

Vocal: Mitsuo Takeuchi
C.Guitar: Taiji Sawada
A.Violin: Ichiro Nakai

General chat / Blue Blood Remastered Track
« on: February 14, 2007, 08:14:22 PM »
I thought I'd put up a single song only if some of you want to hear the quality. The booklets are the same as the originals. The only differences are the second discs and the back covers and general lettering. The inside of the back cover says "Special Edition", and has a shining Psychedelic Violence Crime Of Visual Shock logo:

The remastering is nice. The instruments are a bit clearer and the volume overall is louder.
