My dear fans, we (YOSHIKI, HYDE, SUGIZO and MIYAVI) have formed a band called THE LAST ROCKSTARS. Kind of like the Avengers. Song snippets were pretty lame. Disappointing it’s another new project and the X album is still unreleased. That being said, this might be my best shot at seeing Yoshiki with my friend. Got him into X over a decade ago and he didn’t get to see them with me. Might fly to NY

So it’s S.K.I.N. with Hyde instead of Gackt?
Cringe name…

Feeling much the same.

I am interested in seeing what they come up with however, new music is always a good thing.

I am sure a lot of X Japan fans will be slightly frustrated by this though...an album that has been in the works for 15ish years, apparently complete, though unreleased, and here we are getting a couple of new songs from Yoshiki in the very near future, from a band that I presume hasn't been together very long at all?

I think this is the last (rusty) nail in the X Japan coffin.

S.K.I.N was Yoshiki's big return to playing drums and first foray into the 'international' market. It fell apart because Gackt got cold feet and Toshi returned to X Japan shortly afterwards. Yoshiki's focus was then going global with X.

It sounds like Yoshiki wasn't able to keep X going with Toshi over the last few years. Maybe Red Swan being listed originally as an X Japan song featuring Hyde was Yoshiki trying to buy more time to get Toshi back on board. That didn't happen, so he decided to revive S.K.I.N with Hyde on vocals.

Either way, we'll never see an album. I'll eat my shoes if we do.

Well, that's disappointing. I check in once every six-ish months to see if there's any actual X news.

What a fizzle out for X this feels like. I know that it isn't a definite end, but come on, the writing has been on the wall for years. It's been excuse after excuse, and a long time coming.

I live in New York and checked on the cost of tickets for seeing Last Rockstars for their live performance here in a few months out of morbid curiosity and the cheapest ticket is $143 USD for standing room only. No thanks. But it's also Ticketmaster, so, no surprise there anyway.

The name of the band should've been Passionate Grannies ft. Sugizo and Miyavi

Debut single “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (Paris Mix)” is out on the 23rd. Looking forward to hearing what the full track sounds like.

How does everyone see this project going? Think we will see an album or two out of it?

Will we need to create a child board here under other projects or will this thread ultimately suffice? XD

Well the first single is very modern Yoshiki.
Cringe lyrics, lots of piano runs, but some of the riffs are pretty cool!

For a generic Yoshiki pop song it’s be ok but the We ArE tHe RoCkStArS really ruins it

Agreed. And, does anyone know what “Bigidin Bigidin Ban Ban Ban” means?

Just watched the live version of the song from the Kohaku. It's a very Yoshiki song. Nothing too special. But these four guys look just too great together on the show.
I also want to know what is the meaning of Bigidin ban ban? Are there going to be more songs?
Title: Re: The Last Rockstars

Are there going to be more songs?

The original teaser they released included samples of both The Last Rockstars and a song called Psycho Love.

Both were labeled debut singles and, from memory, they mentioned on planning to have released a couple of songs before the live shows, so hopefully Psycho Love will be coming out in the next few weeks?

Latest from Twitter was that Yoshiki was busy putting together a full music video for The Last Rockstars...what do people think of music videos now a days? I have to say, even if it is an artist / song I like, I hardly ever seek out the MV to watch...

EDIT: Just pulled the below headline from melodee.com, “INTERNATIONAL SUPER GROUP THE LAST ROCKSTARS TO RELEASE FIRST SINGLE “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (PARIS MIX)” DECEMBER 23RD
- NEW MUSIC TO ROLL OUT THROUGH 2023”

I reckon they will end up releasing a couple of singles throughout 2023 and then it will either end, or they will pull something together for an album.

Not into how the first two songs sound at all. There's a teaser out for the 2nd called called "SHINE". How creative to have another song called Shine considering Luna Sea also has a song called Shine......come on, Yoshiki

Yoshiki keeps reusing certain phrases like "time after time", "We will fly". Other than cringe weaboos and 45-60 year old Japanese women, I don't see who is going to these shows lol

While I was watching the video of the Paris mix, my husband asked if it's a new Yoshiki/X song.
Even someone who is not a X fans can recognise the song is from Yoshiki, it said it all.

To each their own.
I would go! (but hey, I am matching at least two stereotypes  ;)  )
The first concert videos are popping up on  YT and even if they might be the ultimate cover band I don't mind them hijacking X Japan songs and using them.
Or even releasing them,

I am looking forward to the global livestream.
I don't mind waiting until the last concert, until then they had pretty of time to perfectionise the show  ;D

Someone posted the LA concert on YouTube.
To be honest, I love it a lot. There's so much energy going on every member on stage.
Hyde definitely did a great job singing beneath the skin and born to be free.

From the article: "Band members YOSHIKI, HYDE, SUGIZO, and MIYAVI promise to flex their artistic prowess in ways connoisseurs of both music and cinema have yet to witness.
This milestone will surely mark Japan’s greatest contribution to the annals of Thespian mastery."

In my opinion Beneath the SKIN is the best X Song after reunion... well... is it even an X song? Was a SKIN song first, now TLR...

I remember when I heard it first at Wembley live :-)

So, based on comments Yoshiki made at the Grammy Museum press conference and Q & A, we have confirmation that there will be a The Last Rockstars album, (for what it is worth!).

A fan also asked about their second single, PSYCHO LOVE. Yoshiki confirmed that they were still "working on it".

In the perfect world, we would see another single or so this year, a full album and supporting tour next year, and then maybe a live video/album release...wouldn't that be something!

Agreed, that concert in LA was great.

They are all amazing musicians in their own right, imagine if they prioritised the band over solo work for the next few years…We could end up with some epic albums…one can dream.

The Last Rockstars second single "Psycho Love" will be streaming worldwide 4th August.

It was composed by HYDE and the lyrics are by HYDE/Yoshiki.

The Last Rockstars concert in LA has been postponed. I wonder what's up.

accordig to the homepage:
The concert was to be THE LAST ROCKSTARS’ only U.S. stop for their Fall 2023 “Psycho Love” tour, following concerts earlier this year in Tokyo, Los Angeles, and New York. The band will return to Los Angeles on August 29, 2024, with more international dates to be confirmed.

What does international dates mean? Once again only US and Japan? I hope not

I wonder what happened…was hoping to catch it through a live stream.

Hmmm, and with the new date being so far away, it feels more like a cancellation than postponement?

Would be nice if they would be touring next year off the back of an album?

and why only LA not not Tokyo?

X Japan's Wembley concert had been postponed for around a year after Pata's health scare.
That was even longer.

If they really intend to have a larger tour it makes actually sence to me that there are a few months in between.
Planning and getting all the venues takes a bit of time.

Someone poted this on Twitter regarding the cancellation

https://twitter.com/EfficientTimes/status/1726224205799358465

I am a bit unsure about the time line.October 20th was 4 weeks ago but the postponement was only communicated now?
Title: Re: The Last Rockstars
Post by: mC on November 20, 2023, 03:24:49 AM
Thanks for that. It helps clarify Yoshiki’s recent comment on Twitter, where he says something along the lines of he is not too sure how much time he has left as a drummer.
Title: Re: The Last Rockstars
Post by: Tahemet on November 20, 2023, 05:29:43 AM
yes, I read that.

A lot of drama could have been avoided with better communication. By now Yoshiki knows that blaiming him for everything is the default status.

I don't understand though why LA could be canceled but not Tokyo.
Don't artists have insurances for exactly those cases?

So it was announced last night, that TLRS will be providing the theme song for Tekken 8! The song, Messiah.

Though I am not really a fan of Tekken, I am excited because, (with the game coming out in January), it means we will have another single release, and Messiah is the one I have been looking forward to most, to hear the studio version!

You know...I really think we might have a chance of seeing an album next year...

I haven't been able to find anything.
I am not even sure that they ever planned to release the song along with the game on Jan 26th.
From what I saw news articles  only mentioned that the song would be the image song for Tekken 8 which would be released  on January 26th but no release date for the song as such was mentioned.
Yes, of course it would have made sense to get game and song released on the same day but that doesn't seem to be the case.
And yes, I had January 26th in my mind as well as release date....wishful thinking I guess

I had a look on Spotify as the soundtrack has been released - it's not on there.

People on Reddit have suggested the song isn't in the game.

It's disappointing but also not unexpected.

it was classified as "imagine song" not soundtrack, or?
Then it kinda makes sense that it isn't on the OST.
but yes, I wish it was released.
