Albums/Singles / Re: How would you like your World Tour DVDs?
« on: October 28, 2010, 11:15:58 AM »
Come on, Blu-Ray is already a success and it's here to stay. In addition to having a concert on just one disc rater than 2 or 3, we get HD video (don't know for sure if the recent shows were shot in HD, I'd assume they were) and lossless or uncompressed sound. However, I did hear Luna Sea's One Night Dejavu was poorly done. Either way, no one loses out because there wouldn't be Blu-Ray versions without DVD versions.

To answer the question of the thread, I don't think releasing 80-90% of the shows on video is necessary, but I'll buy whatever comes out.
Blu-Ray would be incredible!  Of course that means they'll just release it on DVD. :(

According to some guy on youtube who was at the Wiltern concert:

"i forgot which song was it but yoshiki didnt get a tight grip on one of the drum stick and flew off.....sighhhh

it was also kinda funny when he tried to hit the giant cymbal and he kept hurting his fingers lol"

That's pretty stupid Yoshiki, better not do that again.

It's not the first time.  I noticed he did that recently as well.  I forget which one exactly now but it was either the Lalapalooza or Yokohama concerts.

When I saw him do it at the LA show, I couldn't believe it.

4
It's disappointing to hear that it wasn't sold out.  I wonder if it was a mistake to book two shows so close to each other? (Seattle and Vancouver)

I have a friend who went to the show tonight.  He's not a huge X fan but I introduced them to him years back and he does like them.  I can't wait to hear his thoughts on the show.

5
Anyone know if cameras will be allowed?

6
Kinda disappointed to see there will be an opening band and I'm sick of all the vampire stuff that's in pop culture these days but honestly, I don't think they sound THAT bad.

I just hope this doesn't take any time away from X's time on stage.

I'm not talking about just a Blu-Ray release but in both formats. :)

Many Japanese music "DVDs" are released in both formats these days.

Hasn't Yoshiki heard of this thing called Blu-Ray?  :-\

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X Japan North American Tour
« on: September 03, 2010, 12:58:36 PM »
It's not really surprising that none of the shows have sold out. I mean, exactly how many people in America know ANYTHING about them? The album isn't out, the 1st single isn't out, almost no promotion... Unless the group kicks it into high-gear it IS going to fail.

I agree.  It's pretty sad to see how poor the PR/marketing side of X Japan is.

8.15 concert.  The quality isn't that great but it's the full concert divided into three parts.  For some reason, it says the 2nd video is blocked in my region. T.T

Where are the HD uploads? :)

11
Ok, I figured out what those tickets were...it seems that theyre trying to sell more PIT tickets so they're selling them in pairs of 2's, which is why they're so expensive.  Every show I've been to in the Wiltern Ive gone to the pit and there's never any seatings, which is wierd considering some PIT tickets are $139 and I dont know why the're a little less. This would be the first time a show in the Wiltern has pit seating if that were the case.

In most cases, every GA ticket has a seat number, which is odd since every show Ive been to on the floor/pit was standing, but that still dont explain the different pricing on those platinum tickets.

Quote
Do you think you really have to line up that early? 250 tickets don't sound like so much to me, and most people show up at the venue only a few hours before it starts anyway...
Well, you have numbered seats anyway now, no...?

(Don't get me wrong, I'd totally camp for X as well, but only because it's fun to hang out with friends like that and not because I have to be first row XD that would only be a nice side effect haha Cheesy )

It doesnt sound that much but most of the time they let a few people in the pit if there's room so sometimes it can be about 280/290 in the pit or try to fill it up as much as they can. Its best to line up early to be up close to the stage and because you dont want to stand behind someone taller than you lol (The stage is literally  like about a foot away from the rail of the pit)

If you look at 0:15-0:17 you can see the pit area and how many people it holds as well as 0:24-0:31. The wall in the back and beyond that is just the regular floor area. I'm really surprised tickets are still up for sale considering this is probably the biggest JRock band to play at the Wiltern. I hope its at least 2/3rd full. And you're right, 250 tickets does not sound alot. If we were to assume those were the only tickets sold, the venue will look really empty. I hope that's not the case. =[

It's fun waiting the night before because there's not much people so its easier to talk with them and mess/run around the sidewalk like a loon and not look crazy in front of police lol

Thanks for the info again Snapback.  Makes sense. :)

12
I agree.

I wouldn't mind lining up if I had to but if they're assigned seats, then why put yourself through all that?

At some point, I'll probably call up the Wiltern and try to find out how the pit seating works.

P.S. - My tickets are for row five so I wonder what's so great about row four (the tickets Snapback linked to) that costs twice as much? :)

13
Yeah. Your guranteed a spot in the pit but that doesnt autmatically mean your up front because a good 250 people will be there too. First come first serve. Does your ticket actually say GA Pit or just GA Floor?

It says GA PIT.

I didn't know there will be 250 people in the pit.  Thanks for the info!

Does it have a seat number as well? Reason I ask is because I just checked the ticket page and they have Official Platinum Seats being sold as 2 tickets with GA PIT and seat numbers for $139 and $159.

I have no clue what kind those are @_@

I just got my tickets in the mail today and it has a row and seat number in GA PIT.

i got 2 version of 14 august, the 7,6 gig (.vob /dvd version). and 6,5 gig version(hdtv)/. hdtv version shorter in beginning. but both are in very good quality.

Is the 6.5 gig (HDTV) version higher quality?  I'm still trying to find an HD version. :)

BTW, if someone knows how to get these, please let us know. :)

Yup, the link takes you directly to a Chinese X Japan forum.  :o

Okay, sorry about that.  Looks like you need to register with that forum.  Try this: http://rapidshare.com/files/414687832/X_JAPAN_WORLD_TOUR_Live_in_YOKOHAMA8.14_2_.rar

I have 7.6.GB version of 14.August show. I watched it on 37" flatscreen tv and it was a really good quality there.
http://paste2.org/p/953216 But it will take some time to download these files if you don't have a premium account there.

I found a torrent of what I believe is the same file.  I haven't tested it but I looked at it and it has the same number of RAR files and is also 7.6GB.

Torrent update:  14th is ready but we wait till the 15ht is ready then we combine them and make nice dvd from.
This should be done monday. We do our best, we have upload  to avi so the size is smaller and better quality.
the concert are ripped from WowWow and have good quality but the files are very large we have used programs to make them smaller and remain  quality.

I love watching X concerts at the highest quality possible. :)  Will you be able to upload the higher quality ones?  Or does anyone know if these already exist?

Either way, thank you for the contributions! :)

Managed to snag 2 floor tickets cheaper on stubhub rather than buying from the actual site :)

The Wiltern is nice but it looks old in comparason to Club Nokia which I wish they should have played in.

Its also best to line up the night before if you really wanna be a few feet away from the band. 5-11 PM seems like a good time.

I'm curious about this since I bought (the more expensive) pit tickets.  The pit tickets are the ones near the stage, right?  Since I don't know how many pit tickets were sold, are you saying we'll still have to line up that early to be close to the stage?

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X Japan US Tour
« on: August 17, 2010, 05:15:13 PM »
Was anybody else here a part of the research for the Yoshiki Discovery site back in 2008? I was and i emailed them about honoring the 2 free premium tickets yesterday and I hope they answer quick and honor them. I dont want the LA show to sell out :/

I noticed that Ticketmaster has a policy for certain venues (and the LA venue is included in the list) that you can get a refund on your tickets for 72 hours after purchase.  So you can buy them now and hope to get a response within 72 hours.  ;)

I agree with Feudal that it's safer to buy them now and not depend on the Yoshiki Discovery.  But here is the Ticketmaster policy if you want to read about it:

An article and some pictures from Natalie - http://natalie.mu/music/news/36197

What little I could make out with a translator, don't quote me on anything:

* Yes, the drum solo (which started suddenly, without fans screaming before it) was indeed on the second, pyramid stage
* It was the first time in over 10 years when Unfinished was played live; only one chorus though
* Heath will stay as the bassist of X Japan, Taiji won't replace him :P
* They do know that they have a lot of fans waiting in France and an European tour is said to follow the US tour
* Jade will start broadcasting in US radio stations next week, as a promotion
* They want to finish the work on the album before the US tour and release it within the year
* The US tour dates will be released soon (I presume on the 16th, as promised earlier)
* The US Embassador to Japan, John Roos, attended the concert, saying it was "fantastic" (check the picture of Yoshiki with that older guy in the Natalie article)

I'm very excited to hear Jade will be getting airplay here in the US next week!  But it sounds like the CD won't be out before the US tour, which is very disappointing to hear.

From the videos I've seen so far, the Yokohama concerts looked great!

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: THE Lollapalooza Thread!
« on: August 10, 2010, 04:42:45 PM »
"WE ARE? X! WE ARE? X! YOU ARE? X! YOU ARE? X!

Well, I sure as hell am now. Never, ever ever ever, has a band made me their new biggest die-hard fan so quickly. When I was bitching Monday night about the lack of what felt like, for me, a true headliner, Perry Farrell more than made up for it by tossing in an extra one on Sunday afternoon. X Japan’s massive set was only trumped by their massive sound; they drowned out everything, from other bands to conversation, across the entire south end of the park. You might be thinking to yourself, “Who the hell is X Japan?” So was I before the set. Apparently these guys are metal giants with a career stretching back to the mid-80s who have just reunited and, get this, played their first show on American soil Sunday at Lollapalooza. They sure as hell didn’t seem nervous. A flurry of orchestral noise in their intro was quickly obliterated by a stunning Motorhead-style guitar assault, complete with giant cones of flame erupting on stage. The band channeled everything from Journey to Metallica to Guns n’ Roses, complete with over the top piano solos and distorted violin breakdowns.  On top of that, these guys clearly had their amps set to 11. By far the loudest band I have ever heard at Lollapalooza, or anywhere else for that matter. One of the shows coolest moments involved drummer Yoshiki playing the piano while a pre-recorded guitar solo accompanied him. What makes pre-recorded guitar cool? The guitar part was laid down by deceased former X Japan guitar player Hideto Matsumoto. The show ended on a song that dipped in and out of epic “November Rain-style ballad and full on metal firestorm.” The crowd ate it up, fist pumping crossed arms and declaring they too were X."

It's great to read stories like this. ^_^

Hearing Tears (and the other songs) in English was definitely strange but I liked the slightly different sound in the solo (Tears).  It's kind of difficult to comment until the studio version though.  Come on and release it already! ^^

General chat / Re: X Japan new song - Born to be Free
« on: July 21, 2010, 05:53:40 PM »
If you take a cross section of X Japan' fans in Japan you will find a strange mix of people. On one hand X Japan endears itself to metal fans, given it's heavier roots and occasional speed metal epic. On the other it endears itself to younger Visual Kei fans, who are largely enticed by the genre and on another you have the middle-aged women demographic who adore X's ballad music and follow the band in a similar esteem to how middle-aged western women follow rock bands such as Bon Jovi. When I was at the opening night X Japan's reunion shows in 2008 at Tokyo Dome I was sat behind an adult woman with her young daughter, I was sat in front of two teenage girls dressed in Lolita dresses and sat several seats away from two middle aged metal heads. I think that goes some way to explaining the point I'm trying to make.

It's difficult to place X Japan's exact demographic because their diversity has gained them fans from many different sides of the spectrum. I think that their launch into the United States is unlikely to see the band entirely focusing on one style of music, but instead adding to the range which they already cover, as let's face it, a lot of X Japan's back  catalogue now sounds significantly dated - even in the late 90's X Japan sounded like band fresh out of the 80's. We already have a rough idea of what their album is going to entail, and as such I think if we were trying to establish a single demographic which said music would endear itself too we would be looking at a minority of eclectic individuals at best.

This is so true.  Even at the Yoshiki foundation event, I found the demographic mix of the crowd very interesting.

As tragic as it may be, I don't think X Japan's success or failure will have much to do with the music they put on out on their new album anyway. I think it's going to have a lot more to do with how much mainstream exposure they get, and appearing at Lollapalooza, in my mind, simply isn't going to be anywhere near enough.

I agree with this as well but I guess I'm cynical about all this because Asian music has never been accepted here and as much as I think that if anyone can do it, it will be X, I just don't see it happening at this point in time.

As for being the next Linkin Park, people can hate on them all they want for being a sellout/mediocre/too mainstream/whatever, but they are a incredibly successful band.  That kind of success in the West would be mind blowing IMO.

It does seem a bit simple but it works.  While I love their dramatic stuff, it's kind of refreshing to get something upbeat and catchy.

I've been listening to X since 1990 and I love all their newer songs: I.V. Jade, Born to be Free.  They all bring a slightly different style and feeling.  Maybe it's because I'm getting older with them so I don't mind the songs getting less "metal". :)

It's nice to see them grow and change along the way.

Toshi's voice was cracking quite a bit but finally hearing his voice in person, it's simply amazing.

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: Live in Taipei - May 30
« on: May 30, 2009, 07:39:41 PM »
These guys aren't 25 anymore.  While I also prefer the harder/faster songs as well, it's completely understandable to me that they are playing a little more ballads and a little less of the hard stuff.  I think they've brought a lot of new things to the table: the Dahlia and Without You violin intros, the "unplugged" sessions of Forever Love, Longing and Rose of Pain.  And I will never get tired of the Orgasm and X lives they play no matter how many times I see it and now I.V. is reaching into that category for me.  I just love the audience interaction.

These (leaked?) broadcasts we see should not influence how they do their sets in different countries.  This is all a brand new experience for the fans in each country.  And I feel so fortunate to be able to see all of the lives they are doing now while I'm still waiting for their tour to hit the U.S. (hopefully!)  If and when that ever happens, they could do the same set I've seen in every country for all I care.  I think the true fans should realize how fortunate we are to have them reunited again.  I never thought the day would come where I'd be able to watch a world tour of X and possibly have the chance to see them in concert again.  I know a lot of these points were already said but I had to throw in my $0.02 in as well based on some of the complaints above.
