X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X JAPAN's world tour plans for 2011
« on: October 13, 2010, 08:42:07 PM »
As soon as I read this over at JrockNation:
Quote
YOSHIKI of X japan says they have decided to play in France & Germany in 2011, the UK and other European countries are under discussion!!
I thought of you, Ashe! My first thought was, they better not f*&k it up this time or they will suffer her wrath! LOL

Very humorous video of the panel with Yoshiki and Stan Lee:

X JAPAN World Tour / Re: X-Japan World Tour Round-up
« on: October 12, 2010, 07:37:44 AM »
I actually wrote an absentee report for each night I couldn't attend, as well as one for the concert I did attend. I didn't discuss success or the future so much as the experiences of the moment.

Anyone who has the time and the inclination can read my 'round up' of the tour here: http://katemiotto.typepad.com/blog/ There are a couple of other reviews on the page, but the majority of the posts are the X Japan First North American Tour.

Anyone who attended one of the nights who finds any errors or glaring ommissions, please feel free to let me know so I can make corrections and/or inclusions.

Thanks for sharing a GREAT two weeks of miracle concerts with me!

4
Have an INCREDIBLE night to remember, all of you! Hope you meet up and make new friends. Keep us posted. We live vicariously through your reports! lol

5
Fabulous videos, Wohjai! thank you for sharing with us!  ;D

OOH! And APO! And DIRU! Even BETTER! Great footage. My eyes and ears are very happy.

6
Well, it is good to finally have at least one damned diagnosis for Yoshiki's continual health issues.

So glad you all had such an AWESOME TIME! It is now 5 days after my X perience and my ears are still ringing so I retract what I said about earpiugs in another thread! lmao!

Thank you all for the fabulous videos, especially Ulquiorra who has been posting them religiously since the beginning of the tour, but Ulquiorra, Toshi's voice only broke once in Vancouver on Endless Rain. It was perfect the rest of the show...honest.  ;D

7
@bahbah: The sound isn't that bad in the solo, just a little tinny. You could still hear evey beat. Good to see this tour's drum solos are more manageabley short than previous tours.

The Sound: Seems it is the same complaint from Vancouver on. I wrote in depth about the crappy sound here: http://jrockrevolution.com/index.php/webzine/feature-articles/1606-x-japan-live-report-vancouver-bc.html and posted on the Vancouver thread. It really did suck on the lower floor, but I never wandered up audience or to the balcony to see whether it was different. Could have used VE to check on that.

Jrock Revolution posted a beautiful report on Chicago:

http://jrockrevolution.com/index.php/webzine/feature-articles/1609-x-japan-live-report-chicago-il.html

Beautifully edited video footage bahbah! What a great Vid.

Here's Consequence of Sound's review of the Chicago show:
http://consequenceofsound.net/2010/10/07/x-japan-drain-chicagos-riviera-theatre-106/

Insane? Getting there? X Japan IS my sanity!! LMAO! Good review.

@BahBah: Excellent video of the dive! Thanks, he didn't attempt one in Vancouver. Glad you had an awesome time. In all my years of concert going, I have never been to one where such strict security was employed. I take meds, and wear chains, but at worst I had to throw out a bottle of water before entering. Sorry to hear things are so tense there.

10
Vampires Everywhere should just be taking the stage. Arms up X Freaks! Have a night to remember!!!

11
Sorry to hear the crowd was so small, and no glow sticks? WTF is up with THAT!? Glad to hear Yoshiki felt safe enough to crowd surf though.

Not keen on the new Rusty Nail solo yet, but as it grows with Sugizo and the band, it might grow on me. And Toshi's voice on Silent Jealousy was amazing. So happy to hear the crowd singing from the beginning of the concert through.

@darthchilli: If the thread for Massey Hall Thread in Toronto tonight is any indication, they are going to fill the hall with X Freaks alone. lol

12
Just an idea: Each of you make an X Freaks sign and hold it up so you can all get together, instead of trying to find each other based on your clothes in a crowd of a couple of thousand.   ;D

13
If the size of this thread is any indication, Massey Hall is going to bring the roof down!

@ashtrayxx If T. fans are anything like Vancouvers, they won't be rude to VE, but sadly, VE is not yet a band so much as 6 performers. They really aren't very good...yet. And yeah, it isn't unusual not to meet the opening band on tour unless there are friendships involved, they have media gigs together or everyone is travelling in the same bus. Everyone has too much on their plates to socialize as a rule.

Re: Cameras: No one in Vancouver lost a camera to front of house. Like Brandon said, they scanned the ticket, some even with a smile, and shined ya on. Not one member of security budged even when a camera was right in their face. There was this one huge MF at the front glowering at the audience during stage set change and the fans were totally unphased moving around him like a river around a rock.

Re: Yoshiki;s health: He was very subdued at the concert in Vancouver, actually lying down on his piano for a short time during one song, so he is taking what care he can while not short changing the fans. Everyone, just send him your love and healing energies. It can't hurt. From what I have heard from Paramedics, and people backstage at that collapse Mar 29, it was totally real. Yoshiki regretted falling forward though, saying it was stupid because he got all cut up from the nuts, bolts and other debris involved in keeping a kit upright.

ALL of you, HAVE A GREAT TIME!!! I will be thinking of you all. It is an experience you won't ever forget. My hearing JUST returned to me today.

@RoseofPain84 I can't say for sure what the answer to your question is. Perhaps they have a set amount for each show, carrying over to the next whatever does not sell at the previous. Or perhaps they have sold out the projected number for the entire tour and will have to order in more. 4 days should be plenty of time to bring in another batch, I would HOPE they would order in more. I can only suggest your friend gets there early and gets to the merch table fast. I stood on the mezzanine walk looking down on the shoppers while my friend and her daughter stood in line to buy ours. I wanted the little one to come upstairs with me but no WAY was she missing out out on the opportunity to stand in a merch line up with her Momma.

There were lots of T's and there seemed to be plenty of hoodys. There are also Keychain discs that light up, and wrist bands each for 10$ I think. There were only three staff on to cover a crowd of almost 2000 (capacity is 2031 and it was 97% full) so it took a LOOOOONG time for the mass to thin.

@Brandon I know! It seems so strange to read them called by their family names, and stage names are fine, but whatever happened to real first names? She missed these entirely except for Yoshiki. LOL Five minutes on line and she'd have had them all.

Thought you might all get a kick out of this. A total Neophyte becomes a convert. This woman was very excited to be there, she even took a photo of our 10 year old and chatted with us, but the shot didn't make it into the article.

@ YourFuneral Thank you.  ;D Yeah, I have attended many things at the QE. Having directed a play at its backdoor sister theatre, The Playhouse, in my youth, I was once intimate with its innards. It is more a symphonic hall designed for a different sound flow than arena rock. When I spoke with my son who attends rock concerts there all the time his answer was: "Yeah, welcome to Vancouver." I now understand why he has 'club ears' hearing problems. LOL Where we were seated was over what is usually the orchestra pit. It had been properly covered to accommodate a non-symphonic event and allow higher ticket sales. I can't help wondering if it was just our area that was under assault. So many of the videos of the night sound fine, but I know I wasn't the only one complaining. We had a couple of true metal heads from a band in front of us and they were noticing it, as were the rest in our area. One of our seat mates even had ear plugs in! I kept thinking, if they could just shift those big assed speakers a hair's breadth, but then I am not a sound tech. I believe they found the best angle they could for them.

And yeah, Yoshikitty sold out even with the left overs from Seattle, my poor 10 year old companion watching the last one walk away in the arms of an adult. LOL, she was a soldier though and wore her t-shirt with pride
I will have to come to the Paramount one day. What a GORGEOUS concert hall!

17
Thanks Ashe. I am still floating from the concert and the opportunity. ;D Mom had a good night and is in less pain today. I hope she will be home sooner than anticipated. Sadly the event made writing the review challenging and I made one error. It was Yoshiki who asked the two young men if they were alright, not Toshi. You can see it here:

The cool thing about this video is that the X Freak in the hat iin the middle of the shots is my friend, Shelley. You can see her speaking to her daughter Hannah, the little blond giving her hugs, just before Toshi speaks. I am out of frame to Hannah's left. Man what an awesome night!

18
LOL'd at nexys' comment on Sugizo's throwing arm. Being on the X crew better come with hazard pay! Sugizo seemed fine at the end, he was the very last to leave the stage, picking up a bouquet of flowers and blowing a kiss to whoever tossed them up. Although it is not noticable on any of the videos I have seen except one Ulqiorra commented on, sound issues plagued the night and Sugizo spent a lot of time in the wings with his personal tech.

@CharonCaori Thanks. My Mom is in her late 80's and she worries us. Yoshiki did seem to be feeling under the weather near the end of the night, but I think he is finally realizing that if he can't do something, he won't. If he changes the set list to drop Art of Life, I think those who know his health issues will understand. He was totally exhausted last night, but it was also damned hot in that venue. They had to open the doors more than once.

19
Originally I said I was going to post a review on my blog, but two things happened: one, my Mom had a medical emergency and two: I was asked to write this!!

http://jrockrevolution.com/index.php/webzine/feature-articles/1606-x-japan-live-report-vancouver-bc.html

I got home from the concert and there was my confirmation e-mail so I sat down and wrote it immediately. I am still floating! This has helped me make it through the rough day of visiting my Mom in hospital. Thank you Jrock Revolution and thank you X Japan, and thank you to my Mom, who is resting well, but won't be home for a few days.

Sorry I didn't get to meet darthchilli or Psyence. I was the red haired old broad in 7th row, wearing the long white coat; a 10 year old X Freak and her Mom at my side. Sorry to hear you got plastered. Seems I get that merch pack. ;) Woot! looking forward to reading your interview with VE! And am so glad you got to meet Yoshiki. You must be tweaked tighter than a mainspring over that.

LOL @ Bandon. It's true. When Apocalyptica played the Vogue (a TERRIBLE venue for metal btw) my son and I were actually asked to 'tone down the rowdiness'. We were doing what most people do at a metal concert;  yelling; jumping; singing along and holding 'horns up'. My son laughed and asked them if they were sure they were in the right concert. "After all, cellos and all, you sure you weren't expecting Yo Yo Ma clones?" We laughed and continued to go wild with a large, but not large enough, portion of the audience. Miyavi's concert at the Commodore was an entirely different experience however. HE complained with jocularity to US that he couldn't hear his guitar on his video playback after the concert, so we will see. Vancouver is a city of 2nd and 3rd generation as well as immigrant Asians. Japanese students come here to go to school and  every Japanese Canadian I know in is attending X Japan, so something tells me this won't be a quiet or impolite concert. I will post a report here: http://katemiotto.typepad.com/blog/ either way.

Pictures/Galleries / Re: My Commemorative Hoody
« on: August 25, 2010, 03:47:59 PM »
Thanks all.

@ LunaSlave: My friend who took the picture immediately posted it from her phone to YoshikiOfficial on twitter to show him so he, at least, will see it. lol

@ mC: I drew the lettering guidelines with a ruler then the letters freehand in pencil before filling them in with indelible ink Sharpies. It took bout an hour and a half, and smelled very sweet for about 48 hours. Oh, and I was a little 'ink drunk' for a couple of hours after as well. lol

@ darthchilli: I used to live and work in downtown Van until 2009. NowI live out in Cloverdale, in Surrey, but I do get into Van.City Ctr. on occasion so maybe you will.  ;D

Pictures/Galleries / My Commemorative Hoody
« on: August 25, 2010, 08:42:50 AM »
I have had this hoody for years. In 2007 I painted a small, stylized X on the front pocket, and a hide recycle symbol on the upper left arm. When I got my ticket for the October 3rd, 2010 show here in Vancouver however, I did this to the back to commemorate the event. If I wear this outside, it is guerrilla advertising. If I never wear it outside, it is a commemorative item I will cherish for the rest of my life. (Yes that is my 57 year old backside in the shot. I get such shocked looks when I turn around with all my face lines! LMAO!)

23
Me too and thanks! I have missed our chats, but I hope to remedy that soon. I spoke with my friend today that I wish we could get you here to see them, but we are both paupers right now. Sigh.

24
@ Darthchilli: Me too!

@ Hypno: Sorry about the double thread. I looked for this one, but seem to have missed it. Thanks for the redirect.

hide / Re: Headwax suing Yoshiki for using hide's image in concerts?
« on: August 21, 2010, 06:41:55 PM »
LOL @Palma. If  suburbia is La Jolla, California, maybe. The wife and 5 kids? Yeah, not so much.  :D

26
That is an incredible venue visually. :o Wish we had something like it here. Hope the acoustics do the band justice.

27
Here's the venue for the Vancouver show October 03, 2010. Tickets arrived today, say: "X Japan and Guests." We have a poll on who the 'guests' might be. lol

Who in Western Canada is going?

So happy to see there are a few days between concerts.

OMG BeautyBroken Thank You, :D you made me laugh so hard with this:
Quote
X Japan have had plenty of sponsors, not all of them have been gullible record labels - or even legitimate businesses.
Anyone who knows anything about the Music Industry anywhere knows the local Syndicates have their hands deep in the pie. In the 50's/60's here in the West, many of the 'crooners' were Mafia 'backed' (a much nicer word than 'owned'.)

I am not Japanese. Ann, Yakuza are Japan's syndicated crime factions, age old as the Samurai. They are like Canada/US/Italy's Mafia but with a longer history. As for the accident, I haven't heard anything about an 'accident.'

Going back to earlier in this thread, where losses in Metallica, et al, were being compared to X Japan's loss of hide: Despite Hiroshi's seeming disregard for the honour of his big brother's gift to him of Headwax upon his death, Japan honours their dead very differently to the USA or Canada or the UK , etc. There are immense cultural differences. Yoshiki has shown great honour to his dear friend by headlining him in the band. Hirochan? Yeah, not so much.

As an avid lover of not just the music of X, but of the band and their history, I would be disappointed to attend a concert and have no indication of hide's involvement, no segment of his music or visuals, because he is and always will be a member of the band. I agree with those who say it is about the entire event, emotions, spirit, etc. I ONLY attend lives of bands who have heart. LOL, If I wanted just the music, I would toss a disc in the machine or crank my PSP and blow my ears out. Now that I know of this lawsuit, I will be prepared for hide's absence on October 3 when I attend the concert, but when Toshi says, "On guitar: hide!" I will yell his name just as loud, if not louder, as I would if his playback and/or images were included, sending my love for him to the ether. This way I honour his memory and Yoshiki's visceral relationship to hide and his memory.

FTR: I adore Sugizo, he is perfection at what he does. He has played beside hide's spirit with humble joy since the 1st day he took the stage where hide used to stand/sit. With or without hide visuals or playback, Sugizo will undoubtedly continue to do so in a way only Sugizo is able.

Love and Peace Out Everyone

Epileptic episodes are called either Grand Mal Seizures (bad ones) or Petite Mal Seizures (minor ones) Frightening to witness, but gratefully the patient has no memory of them. It was so incredible to see Taiji back with them. I am beginning to think the world is going to end. First I saw Miyavi in concert, and now I will see X in concert, and I have seen Taiji play with them again via internet. I can die happy after October 3! LMAO!

Yoshiki / Re: YOSHIKI’s interview in BARKS
« on: August 20, 2010, 02:49:10 AM »
I saw this video in 2007 and laughed. I am 100% on Yoshiki's side in this. Triplet messing Dude should know that you don't remix the maestro's works, no matter WHO that maestro is. I am a visual artist, however I am nowhere near successful enough to have assistants work with me to lay down base coats or stretch and prep canvases for me. I do that myself. However, if I was as genius and as prolific at my craft as Yoshiki is; if I laid down a series of thumbnails describing exactly what I required for an undercoat, or perhaps what precious or semi precious stones I needed to be purchased and crushed for pigment, and my assistant substituted something they thought might work better, or ground them course when they needed to be fine; if they substituted powdered yolks instead of fresh egg yolks in the mix, all in hope to highlight their own, personal talent/ability, I would have done a lot worse than speak with a sharp tone and use a few profanities. I think perhaps said assistant might have left my studio wearing an oddly shaped canvas and wood necklace while on their way to find new work, even if I still called them a dear friend. (but then, my dear friends know how I am about my art and would never presume such a thing)

Want to mix your own paints/triplets? Go ahead, but do it to your OWN work. I invite you to surpass me and my art if you want. I am sure you can, but Dude, do it with your OWN canvases/compositions, do NOT mess with the Maestro's work in progress, especially one I have been sweating, slaving and struggling over for months or perhaps even years. He's a musician, not a saint. He's human.

Any one of us might feel angry, perhaps violated by such an intrusion. It is a form of theft when you think of it. I think Yoshiki was entirely within both his rights and the boundary of control and good taste. All he did was swear and say 'don't mess with my music, ever again.' I can think of a number of western musicians who A: would have punched Dude, and/or B: walked out in a pouting huff. Yo just went back to work. For all we know, they went out for dinner and a few drinks afterward.
