Are there any newer pictures (last ten years) taken from Toshi without 8) ?

I had saved a few newer (new-ish?) pictures, but I lost them with my old computer. They exist somewhere online, but I don't think he wants to be seen without his sunglasses..?

I think there were still pictures of him without glasses from around 2007-2009 or so, while he was still with HOH.
Sometimes I wonder if something happened to his eyes that he wants to hide? He wrote that he's been beat up by them multiple times, so it wouldn't be surprising at least.
If anyone came across some non-sunglass pictures, I'm looking forward to those! I honestly don't like it when people's eyes are hidden behind sunglasses... >_<

I can't help but think he may have some kind of little anxiety issue since the HOH debacle that he makes him constantly wear them now. Just a thought-I dunno.

I think I also remember him saying in an interview that he admires another Japanese artist who always wears (or wore?) sunglasses... but I'm not sure, and I honestly don't know if I understood it correctly.

In his biography Toshi said that Masaya told him to wear sunglasses when he is with X. Also he wrote, that he want to cover his scars.
Ah, and also in the "ToshI Cafe" show you can see light fells behind the glasses. You can see, that they are not totally black. The glasses looks more like my sunglasses with dioptres(? is this word correct?).
But still I want to see his real eyes, free of the hole HOH shit. Want to see his happy face completely ;D ;D >:( >:(

Yeah, I looked through my ToshI folder & what little I have of his glasses off, are from X days & some from when he was with HoH. All of his recent stuff is all glasses, all the time.
I wanna see a glasses-less ToshI someday too!

Part of me thinks that he may have suffered some sort of facial injury while he was with HoH and he wants to hide any scars he may have.
On the other hand, it may just be a fashion choice and he likes the look. The only one who has the answer is Toshi himself.

I believe I read that he performed with cuts or scars or possibly some bruises on his face when they did The Last Live concert. So I looked closely and it seemed I could see marks on his face, especially around his eyes. Small ones like cuts. IDK. First I need to find where I read that and see what it says and go from there.

This last photo is gold, but the thread is hunting photos from recent times without glasses. Like, post 2010, nobody ever saw Toshi without sunglasses. I could only find that one photo where the stage lighting makes his sunglasses a little more transparent and you can see one eye. :) I'm not sure he has scars. I mean, physical. He may well be just hiding behind his sunglasses, sort of like a stage persona, like a mask. It's ToshI, the singer of X Japan, and not Deyama Toshimitsu. That's my theory.
But this last photo, wow. He looks so good - and sooo Japanese to the core :D He looks really manly <3

I know, I know. I tried all night long on every kind of search engine and photo hosting site I could remember which was a lot. There is only one other I can think of but doubt there are X photos on there. If there are photos that are recent without glasses, they must be in magazines or books. There aren't even any without glasses on Getty Images. :(

Ooooh, yeah, those pics are old. I remember seeing them back in 2006-ish and being really shocked. They were some of the first pics of Toshi post-disbandment to emerge on the internet and people were wondering if it was really him. It's weird how people can change.
As for his sunglass-obsession, I don't think he has anything weird going on with his eyes. He's probably not into botox and needs an easy way to hide his crow's feet and transition from normal guy into superstar superawesome superToshi.

I have looked everywhere. There are no other photos of Toshi without sunglasses except a few that are very small and they're all as old as these as well. Maybe he does just like wearing them? A lot of performers do so maybe he is just doing the same thing, used to it and will continue because he likes it or is too used to wearing them. It would drive me nuts to wear dark glasses all the time but I guess you get used to it.

Probably that. Also, sunglasses are a great way to make you look more put together without makeup. Yoshiki only ever takes his own sunglasses off when on stage, in full make up. I bet he showers with them on as well.

Hahaha, that would be funny to shower with sunglasses on! Speaking of makeup, Toshi's eyes were killer in that makeup when they all had their hair 3 feet high. lol. Seriously, I think looking at him with eyes made up like that for so long, it's sorta a shock to me to see him without it. (I guess I prefer some of the older songs, huh!) Maybe it even makes him look ill or something to that effect because they don't stand out like they did with the makeup. I'll just have to get used to it, I guess. Naw, I will always love the look of his eyes with all that makeup. Cool dude! 8)

Same true for hide. And Yoshiki. These guys' eyes look pretty average Asian and rather smallish without make-up. It's natural. But monolidded eyes look reallllllly pretty with the right make-up. Their beautiful natural almond shape gets accentuated and eyeshadow looks so much better on monolids than creased European lids because there is no crease to break the eyeshadow. I love the look of monolids, especially on guys. I think Toshi has pretty eyes, with our without make-up. :)

Oh yea, I definitively agree they look very cool saw with that eye makeup on. You can't get that look with European eyes no matter what you do. Another thing I forgot was like in this photo. I wonder how old that actually is because someone used it as the cover photo for a video I am listening to right now that isn't that old and was uploaded this past November.
I wish Yoshiki would not wear those blue contacts, though. I would rather see his beautiful brown eyes!

This is definitely pre 1995, since his hair is blond. After 1995 Toshi never died his hair blond ever again.

The blogger says this photo was taken during the recent world tour. And the photo was posted in February 2013 on the blog. Then, "recent world tour" seems to mean 2011. I'm not sure. Anyway, it is certain that the photo was taken after the reunion. The person with Toshl is his doctor. The blogger says this is a very rare photo.

Toshi is sure an alien in the J-rock circles of alcoholist bad boy rockers. He's a cinnamon roll, as matsumoto here rightfully named him :D He doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't go around dismantling hotel rooms in drunken rages, can cook, he really is not cut out to be a heavy metal singer LOL.

I need to make some changes to what I wrote before. The person in the photo is not Toshl's personal doctor. He is a doctor for the X Japan world tour for all members. Sorry about poor English. He was photographed with Sugizo at the same place. That's why I think the photo was not taken during the T-Earth world tour.

ohhh thank you! I'm going to say pre-2011 because I think Sugizo had shorter hair by then. I think it might be 2009 because Toshi had longer hair in the 2010-2011 tour if I'm not wrong.

That reminds me. Last night I saw either a video or a gif of Toshi and his right eye was twitching quite a bit. That includes his eyebrow on that eye. I wonder if it really did twitch or if it was just something in the video... Hmmm. If it really did and did it often or all the time, that may be a very good reason that he wore those sunglasses all the time - at least at first. Nerve damage?

Nope, not even plausible. Legend says he lost his eyes circa 1998. Ate too many sweets, his eyes just popped out of his face. Ever since, he spends a fortune in sunglasses and photoshop to fool his fans, but he can't fool me. #bringtoshiseyesback #justicefortoshiseyes

I wanted to see his eyes again. I do not think it's just a physical scar to hide. He may be hiding the sadness of the 12 years he suffered. Or it could be a brand he uses. It's strange, because before entering a HoH he was wearing glasses, but infrequently.

by drinking I mean Pata level drinking. Having a drink or two sometimes is not drinking. During the new year broadcast he didn't drink much and most Asians get tipsy quite quickly anyways. While he sipped on pne or two glasses of wine, Pata drank like 8 or 10 glasses :D

Have you ever seen Pata drunk? I mean really drunk, stumbling around, hitting wrong notes, falling, dropping over onto the table?
Every time I see a video of him without the rest of X, he is perky and talks fast, looks bright eyed, etc. I am thinking he doesn't have that much of a drinking problem and some people can hold their liquor a lot better than others. Maybe he's one of those. :)

I disagree because there was a time when every single day of the week, I drank heavily. Then one day, I just decided to stop after about 10 years of that. I was just fine and no cravings to keep drinking. I know he drinks all the time and one does tend to build up a tolerance to it.

Well, but he does drink, he acts like he never drinks he even said he was offered champagne and rejected it because he doesn't drink but then drank it anyway. In the most recent Toshi Radio he said he found a fancy place where they sell delicious alcohol, so now he goes there sometimes lmao
I thought Pata being an alcoholic was a well known fact? I have hear him playing the wrong notes and his playing got worse and worse over the years but his playing has been better the last couple of years. Also, wasn't his illness related to alcohol? Toshi and Yoshiki were talking during the last concert broadcast in July and they said they always have to rehearse early in the day because later in the day Pata is too drunk to rehearse, I'd say that's not normal drinking.
But back to the original topic, I agree with matsumoto, Toshi doesn't have eyes, it's obviously photoshop.

Pata should stop drinking after having these intestinal problems in 2015. Yes, indeed, these problems may have been caused by alcohol.
In the 90's he was almost like the Lemmy of X. He was never seen without Jack Daniels.
But alcoholism is about as accepted in Japan as in the Western world in the 50s. It is not really seen as a problem.

I think it’s because he just created that sunglasses image. He always had them since the 80’s, then in the 90’s he started wearing them even more in concerts a lot... I don’t think there is a single solo performance by him before 1997 where he didn’t have sunglasses all the time lol and well, now we here. Besides, sometimes in his instagram posts he randomly puts the tag #MysterySunglasses haha

I have a feeling that the glasses make Toshi feel safe and less vulnerable or perhaps its a self esteem or shame thing? Like, sometimes when we can feel down and lacking in confidence about ourselves we don't want to look at anyone directly in the eyes. Then again it could just be because he is cool and doesn't care what anyone thinks! 8)
I would really like to see Toshi without glasses just once at least. We love you Toshi! Show us your face! It will make us all smile. Give us a dramatic reveal during a concert!
Ii agree with you, fluffy. I think he feels safe behind those glasses, somehow. It seems it all goes back to his time at HoH and what happened to him, there.
