Other Projects / Re: TLRS - LA concert cancelled
« on: May 17, 2024, 10:03:04 AM »
Yea......When I originally heard about the postponement last year, with it being so far away, I didn't hold out much hope it would go ahead......I would really like to see TLRS / Yoshiki perform at some point in my life, but it is so risky! I was already burnt back in 2008 when X Japan were meant to play Madison Square Garden.....

Have you heard if anything was mentioned around X Japan during the press conference? I have been reading random translations on Twitter...something around songs that have been released outside of Japan, will be? One by one, starting in July?

If I had to guess....they would be referring to streaming services, right? Not physical releases?

EDIT: OK, so by the looks of it, X Japan's releases will be distributed via streaming services worldwide. TBH, it is about time....I believe there was also mention of his solo work as well....it would be nice to get EM and EMII included....

Sigh...I really don't understand the point of collaborating with other media, if your music isn't going to be available when that media launches. It just misses the mark...

So…does anyone know if the studio version of Mastery / Messiah is out anywhere? I understood that it was going to be released the same time as Tekken 8?

What's your favorite song of the movie?

I love "Closer" with The Chainsmokers..

The drum battle at the end is great

Completely agree with your comment! Yes, I think Closer is my favourite...followed by Red Swan and then Hero and I'll Be Your Love tied for third, I think?

Am about half through right now and...very much what I expected. Performances of songs interspersed with Yoshiki's monologue around how he knows the artists he is performing with, his life growing up, etc.

Two things I do want to highlight:

1) The performance of Hero by Jane Zhang is probably my favourite version of the song. Her voice is great.
2) Hyde and Sugizo's performance of Red Swan is awesome. I have never really been interested in Hyde taking over vocals for X Japan, however, I have truely come to appreciate his voice over the last couple of years, (solo works, "Anti", and what we have seen so far with TLRS). Perhaps we could see shows and releases as X Japan feat. Hyde, like Red Swan was originally meant to be?

General chat / 2024 Activity Predictions
« on: January 04, 2024, 08:26:22 PM »
Happy New Year everyone!

I thought it might be interesting to get peoples’ thoughts on what might end up happening this year, in terms of activity. I think at this point we can use "X Japan" activity and "Yoshiki" activity interchangeably.

So here goes, perhaps we can do two lists, (3 items on each), one of what we realistically expect to happen, and a wish list of things that would be nice.

Towards the end of the year, I will review the thread and summarise how we have all got on!

Expected Activity:

  • Yoshiki releases the single, Requiem
  • "X Japan" perform at Heath's planned memorial summit, though Hyde will step in with vocals
  • The Last Rockstars will do further concerts, release 2 singles, (including the upcoming Tekken 8 theme), and announce an upcoming album release, (though it won't be released this year)

Wishlist:

I am going to keep this somewhat realistic!

  • All of X Japan's studio albums will become available on streaming services
  • Some sort of X Japan release will happen, though it will be either a re-release, or new compilation that may include some unreleased live recordings
  • The Last Rockstars will see some sort of physical release, whether it be a single, live video, or album

Get your bets in!

Ah, not sure when it has been updated, (must have been over the last couple of days?), but the banner on Twitter now states: "COMING SOON IN THEATERS and STREAMING WORLDWIDE". So hopefully "worldwide" is actually worldwide.

Hopefully it will get a physical release at some stage. With We Are X, the only way I was able to watch it was buy a copy of the Blu-Ray from the UK as we have the same region code here, (NZ). I don't believe it has ever been on any of the streaming services here. I expect this release to be much the same, if not smaller, than We Are X.

(Interesting to note though, I do remember seeing the We Are X soundtrack in a music store here! There were only a couple of copies, and I wouldn't have been surprised if they didn't sell!)

So it was announced last night, that TLRS will be providing the theme song for Tekken 8! The song, Messiah.

Though I am not really a fan of Tekken, I am excited because, (with the game coming out in January), it means we will have another single release, and Messiah is the one I have been looking forward to most, to hear the studio version!

You know...I really think we might have a chance of seeing an album next year...

Thanks for that. It helps clarify Yoshiki’s recent comment on Twitter, where he says something along the lines of he is not too sure how much time he has left as a drummer.

I wonder what happened…was hoping to catch it through a live stream.

Hmmm, and with the new date being so far away, it feels more like a cancellation than postponement?

Would be nice if they would be touring next year off the back of an album?

Yoshiki / Re: Yoshiki Tweets about slander

Yes, I am also wondering what this is about. From memory, this is the second time he has bought slander up?

Now, more than ever, I feel Yoshiki is definitely chasing after success as a brand, rather than a musician...I was talking to a colleague about the band yesterday, (they have absolutely no idea who they are), and it was kinda sad to say that after everything that happened in the late '90s - early '00s, the reunion resulted in a handful of studio singles, a couple of tours and...that's it.

I am eagerly awaiting Angel, don't misunderstand, but it is quite bittersweet. I think in some ways it would be better Yoshiki announcing that the band was done, rather than us waiting around to see what happens.

As to his fashion brand, odds are it will result in a show and, that's about it. Yoshiki has a tendency to start project after project after project, and never really go far with them...(sounds like me with my work!)

It will be interesting to see what he will talk about at the Japan Expo in Paris.
In 2019 he talked about the YouTube doku and no one has seen that one yet.
And what happened with "Under the Sky"?

Yes, Yoshiki has quite the number of loose ends to keep track of. I know this sounds extremely dark, but I do sometimes wonder if we will see more material from Yoshiki after he passes?

I now really hope that Angel's release date isn't pushed back...I wouldn't be surprised. But, considering X Japan seems finished at this stage, and the new album isn't even on the horizon, I am really looking forward to at least hearing a new recording....

Yea, I am going to guess we won't see a physical release. If we did, they have enough post reunion material to spin out a nice EP with some live tracks as well.

The possibility of getting TLRS album is much higher than X.
I am really looking forward to TLRS, very impressed by their concert performance.
Agreed, that concert in LA was great.

They are all amazing musicians in their own right, imagine if they prioritised the band over solo work for the next few years…We could end up with some epic albums…one can dream.

So, based on comments Yoshiki made at the Grammy Museum press conference and Q & A, we have confirmation that there will be a The Last Rockstars album, (for what it is worth!).

A fan also asked about their second single, PSYCHO LOVE. Yoshiki confirmed that they were still "working on it".

In the perfect world, we would see another single or so this year, a full album and supporting tour next year, and then maybe a live video/album release...wouldn't that be something!

« on: May 18, 2023, 08:44:01 PM »
I hope Angel is pretty different from the live versions. In “We are X” it was alluded that it would have more guitars. Fingers crossed
After the press conference, they did a Q & A with the audience. Yoshiki confirmed then that it would be a full band version.

And yea, while I am more than excited about the prospect of hearing some new X, the announcement has been a bit off...

The first thought I also had was whether Yoshiki had simply got another vocalist to feature. However, during his performance, he made reference to the controversy surrounding Red Swan and Hyde as vocalist, and wanting to avoid any future controversy. So it makes me pretty certain that it is Toshi that will be singing.

Albums/Singles / Re: X JAPAN New Album(When??)
« on: January 07, 2023, 02:31:03 AM »
Yea, I agree that there must be some legal stuff tying things up. I just don't understand how they have a complete album sitting there and there doesn't appear to be any plans at this stage to release it.

Yoshiki did use the line that it wasn't the right time before, (and yes, with the pandemic, it wouldn't have been the best time), but there is definitely something more to this.

I would like to point out that we haven't even had any re-releases of material either. If it was just relationship issues, then I don't see why that would hold back re-releasing albums, compilations, etc.

I only hope that whatever it is, it is resolved so I can at least have the chance to see my favourite band live ONCE in my lifetime!

Are there going to be more songs?

The original teaser they released included samples of both The Last Rockstars and a song called Psycho Love.

Both were labeled debut singles and, from memory, they mentioned on planning to have released a couple of songs before the live shows, so hopefully Psycho Love will be coming out in the next few weeks?

Latest from Twitter was that Yoshiki was busy putting together a full music video for The Last Rockstars...what do people think of music videos now a days? I have to say, even if it is an artist / song I like, I hardly ever seek out the MV to watch...

EDIT: Just pulled the below headline from melodee.com, “INTERNATIONAL SUPER GROUP THE LAST ROCKSTARS TO RELEASE FIRST SINGLE “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (PARIS MIX)” DECEMBER 23RD
- NEW MUSIC TO ROLL OUT THROUGH 2023”

I reckon they will end up releasing a couple of singles throughout 2023 and then it will either end, or they will pull something together for an album.

For a generic Yoshiki pop song it’s be ok but the We ArE tHe RoCkStArS really ruins it

Agreed. And, does anyone know what “Bigidin Bigidin Ban Ban Ban” means?

Debut single “THE LAST ROCKSTARS (Paris Mix)” is out on the 23rd. Looking forward to hearing what the full track sounds like.

How does everyone see this project going? Think we will see an album or two out of it?

Will we need to create a child board here under other projects or will this thread ultimately suffice? XD

So it’s S.K.I.N. with Hyde instead of Gackt?
Cringe name…

Feeling much the same.

I am interested in seeing what they come up with however, new music is always a good thing.

I am sure a lot of X Japan fans will be slightly frustrated by this though...an album that has been in the works for 15ish years, apparently complete, though unreleased, and here we are getting a couple of new songs from Yoshiki in the very near future, from a band that I presume hasn't been together very long at all?

I reckon we will see some sort of re-release of the older albums or perhaps another compilation album, before the new one.

And that is actually saying something, considering we haven't even had that many re-releases of anything in recent years...at this point I would go for anything at all...

(It would be nice to see a box set that included Vanishing Vision, Blue Blood, Jealousy, Art of Life and Dahlia all in one.)

We know Yoshiki is working on getting all the albums available on streaming services, so it could be timed with this?

Yoshiki / Interview 25/02/22 on STATIONHEAD with Matt Pinfield
« on: February 26, 2022, 05:19:47 AM »
On 25/2/22, Yoshiki joined Matt Pinfield on STATIONHEAD for an interview.

Though it started off with a few technical hiccups on Yoshiki's side, the interview actually went really well, with Matt spending a good portion of the airtime asking Yoshiki questions that were submitted in the chat.

Topics of conversation were wide ranging and I am afraid I can't remember all that was discussed, but here are some highlights:

  • The purpose of the interview was to promote We Are X being released on Amazon Prime, 5 years after its initial debut.
  • The release of Under The Sky was also talked about, with Yoshiki again confirming it was coming, though no solid timeframe was given.
  • On the new X Japan album, Yoshiki confirmed that the delay was due to a variety of things, including COVID, but also confirmed that he is continuing to edit it. Not that it isn't complete, it is just that he admits to being a perfectionist and is still making adjustments here and there. (He mentioned working on Kiss the Sky before this interview.)
  • As to the release of X Japan's album, he advises that it is 100% coming out, he just can't say when. Though he hopes it is soon.
  • He actually invited Matt Pinfield to his studio in LA to hear the new album.
  • His solo projects were also discussed. He confirmed, though it hasn't been announced, that he will be performing a classical show somewhere in the US this year.
  • He also mentioned work on his "rock" solo album. I am assuming this is Violet UK. Even though fans have been waiting 20+ years, he still intends to release this as well.
  • As to what we can expect to see in the next 6 months or so, he mentioned that he is somewhat confused at the moment, not too sure what direction to head, though his main goal is to please his fans.
  • Something interesting to note, he mentioned priorities and that his solo album, (Violet UK, I didn't get the impression it was Yoshiki Classical 2), was a higher priority release that X Japan? That was the impression I got, anyway.

I have to say, that was the most enlightening interview I have heard with Yoshiki in a very long time. It did give me confidence that we will see new releases at some point in the near future, when is anybodies guess.

If anyone else listened, feel free to add further to the above. Unfortunately, I don't think STATIONHEAD keeps radio shows to be streamed at a later date.

Yoshiki / Re: Evening with Yoshiki 2022 press conference?
« on: December 27, 2021, 05:23:34 AM »
I watched the announcement and Q & A from press. It was all done to announce his Breakfast / Dinner shows he will be doing in late 2022.

I was most interested in the Q & A’s but got the impression the press were advised not to ask about X Japan because not a single one did!

When answering the questions from foreign press, (sorry, there were a couple but I can’t remember what they were), there was a question around the documentary “We Are X”. Yoshiki did drop that “We Are X” had been picked up by a major network for distribution, and also randomly mentioned that he hoped to release the “new album” soon. I am assuming this is X Japan’s, but take that for whatever it is worth.

Also got an “update” around Under The Sky. There should be an announcement in a couple of months, (he changed from weeks to months XD), about a release date. This is that show which featured Yoshiki performing with various artists, including Marilyn Manson. I think it was meant to be originally released early 2021 but the announcement video has been taken down…

He did also mention a other documentary that was in the works…I am guessing this was that Youtube Originals one…but no release window was given.
