Title: Versailles
Post by: Matthias on October 24, 2007, 02:17:42 PM
Anyone heard of this band? The only song I know so far is "The Revenant Choir" and I think it sounds pretty cool. Okay, the Outfits (especially Hizaki) are a little bit over the top for me, but as long as I dig the music everything's fine.

The band consists of

Kamijo – vocals
Hizaki – guitar
Teru – guitar
Jasmine You – bass guitar
Yuki – drums

And their first EP "Lyrical Sympathy" will be released on October 31th.

Here their first single:

So what do you think about them?

I'll have a look once I'm out of work. I think I saw them somewhere and liked them, though.  :)

Wow. I was quite stunned, I expected some Dir En grey -copy #762, but instead that was bloody good. Sounds quite X influenced, in a very good way, and the guitarists seem quite skilled. Really, I loved it. And the frontman was great, a very charismatic and a mysterious person, too bad his singing style is exactly the same as almost every singer in Japan. I will definitely look more into this band. Thanks.

So, home from work and now I preordered "Lyrical Sympathy" at amazon. Seems, that the european Version of the album includes some kind of bonus-dvd, nice.

By the way, here's a little preview for the CD, where you can hear samples of some of the songs.

Some people say "The Revenant Choir" sounds like "Silent Jealousy", but i wouldn't say it sounds exactly like that, perhaps some small similarities. What I think sounds more like X is the double-solo between Hizaki and Teru.

Here all the members on one pictures, from left to right:

Jasmine You, Teru, Kamijo, Yuki and Hizaki

EDIT: And a TV-report about their first live performance (too bad I speak no japanese, yet *g*).

Unfinished: Unfortunately though, the market seems to be full of narrow-minded fools and fangirls these days. They are more likely to get recognised as "OMG AN AWESOME VK BAND!!! LOOK AT HOW PRETTY THEY ARE!!" than the great musicians they are. They are pretty damn awesome and I do agree, the look doesnt suit the music at all. Much like older Galneryus. Their look was a bit.. different.. and I dont think it really suited their power metal style.. and after a year or so they must have realised that and now they just dress in "normal" clothes, nothing over the top and no VK. Thats what these guys (or girls?) should do.

Post by: Matthias on October 26, 2007, 07:23:04 AM
I have to agree, their look is a little over the top for me, too. But I wouldn't say it doesn't suit the music, as far as I know, the founders of the band Kamijo and Hizaki said, that this band trys to include beautiful music and style (however the style remains a matter of taste *g*), so I understand why they dress as they do (but I wouldn't mind if the would dress more usual).
And by the way, they are all male.

From my point of view the solos are the one element that tells X and Versailles apart. HIZAKI and Teru do more shredding where as hide and Pata play more melody parts. Intro guitar riff and the drumfill sounds totally like a Silent Jealousy ripoff from as well as HIZAKI's intro melody. And what about the pattern they play when Kamijo starts to sing? Exactly, the same pattern X uses in Silent Jealousy, Dahlia plus many others. :)

So it's a SJ ripoff for me. They song sounds kinda good though. These GUYS can really play their instruments. If their material and Kamijo's voice were more original I'd be their fan. :)

Post by: Matthias on October 26, 2007, 10:11:06 AM
You're right, hide and Pata had less shred in their solos than Hizaki and Teru in this one, but I didn't only mean the type of playing but more the "Guitar Player 1 Solo" followed by "Guitar Player 2 Solo" and then "Guitar Player 1 and 2 Solo".

But it seems that I have to listen to the song more focused and after that to Silent Jealousy
Title: Versailles
Post by: Hurley on October 26, 2007, 10:50:44 AM
I don't really care if it's a rip-off (unless it's plagiarized). It sounds good and it's enough for me, and I could say that this song is one of my favourites by now. The only effect of the song being quite unoriginal is that I can't think of the songwriter as a genius or anything. The song is something that has been done before, but gives me the kicks nevertheless.

And the looks, well, the singer is quite cool, but everyone else is just awful.
Title: Versailles
Post by: alex on October 26, 2007, 11:21:30 AM
I agree the singer looks cool, and everyone else bad, but the singer is the only one doing his part somewhat poor ;P

Nice song though.

Regarding the looks, imho Yuki also looks pretty normal and even Teru(compared to Hizaki and Jasmine You   )

I'm really looking forward to next week when the album will arrive (I hope so), and after that I'll write a review.

EDIT:
So, I had the chance to hear it earlier than I thought and I have to say the album (or let's say the EP, cause imho this is not a full album) sounds pretty cool. Some tracks sounds a little bit similiar to others, but after listening to them a few times you can really hear the differences.

If it's okay I'll upload some tracks the next hours/days/weeks when I got time.

EDIT: And I know I said they don't sound like X, but after listening to them more often and to more tracks, I have to agree with Keppikeksi.

EDITEDIT: So here you can take/hear a closer look at the songs, if you like them and you've got some money on the hand buy the album. *g*

Have fun:

Well, I'm not the biggest VK fan, but I really like Versailles... All the musicians are very good, especially the guitarists... On the "Lyrical Sympathy" EP (I think it's an EP too...) there are some pretty good songs, but "The Revenant Choir" is still my favorite, even though I agree that it's a "Silent Jealousy" ripoff...

The only thing I dislike in this band is the singer's horribly annoying voice... An instrumental track by them would kick ass...

I just was in Versailles (the castle in France ;) ) on Thursday. There are renovation works there atm so it's not as cool as it might be but still... I'd love a house like that :D

And the band itself is really great also :)

I get used to Kamijos voice and by now I really like it, and he seems to be a really good frontman with a lots of charisma.
By the way, there exists a Revenant Choir Track, which has almots no vocals, I'll upload it tonight.

After Phantasmagoria ended activity i thought
"damn there isn't really any more VK bands out there i like
(aside from the occasional listen to vidoll or 12012)",
but then I saw Versailles.

The Revenant Choir is a great start for them, and I really like their style.
Definitely gonna get their album.

Live in concert: Versailles!!!

A-Kon® will host the North American debut of the sensational new Visual Kei band Versailles on Friday May 30th in Dallas at the Adams Mark.

The convention will also host question and answer panels with the band followed by autograph sessions during the weekend of the convention. Versailles is presented by Tainted Reality.

So perhaps someone lives near Dallas and can go to see/hear them, I would but it's a little bit to far for me.

So, just came back from the concert, and it was pretty cool. The only thing that sucked was, that absolutely no cameras were allowed, so I couldn't take any pictures.  :(  But on the other hand, I won a meet & greet with the band, so after the concert I had to wait (with 4 girls) for about an hour before the band came to us, shake or hand, talked a little bit (well, the little bit I can talk in japanese), sigend a poster and then we said Dscha matta. Unfortunatley, we weren't allowed to take pictures with the band, but I have a signed poster, bought a t-shirt (with is way to big, so I'll have to find a way to make it smaller *g*) and a cd. Cool evening, great concert and when the come to germany the next time I'll be there again. So, now I try to get perhaps 4 hours of sleep and then it's again time to go to work, yay.

Bye the way. Hizaki and Teru gave me hugs during the meet & greet, guess I should think about what their intentions were.

Hello, hello! Actually I'm back home since 0:45 but I really was to tired to write then (And I had to get up at 5:50, too x_x)

But I can only agree with Matthias! The concert was great!!! :)
Matenrou Opera was much better than expected, too! :3
errr, let's get back to Versailles :P

The really really really really rocked! And their new costumes are fantastic (It really was a pity that pictures weren't allowed, as I was 2nd row in front of teru and jasmine :'( Sooo pretty!)
Umm, also, sometimes you cold barely here Kamijo :/ And the few people who attended the concert sometimes were louder than the band XP
However, I don't want to comlpain LOL The concert was awesome! Kamjios Solo, aswell as Yuki's drum solo and the hizaki's grace project part (I think it was??) were really special and great, too!

and now that was a weird post, I'm sorry :P *is still half asleep*

Congratulation to you, matthias! :) I forgot to watch out for you, actually I wanted to say hello to a fellow X-freak! >_<

Ps: The merchandise was $%&/$§" expensive!!! :( And on top of that I forgot my money at home *HEADDESK* T_____T

Yes, I really liked them, too. But I think the keyboarder is really really short, not that japanese people are famous for being tall, but he looked like a 12 or 13 year old boy to me *g*But that doesn't matter, they rocked.

Quote
the hizaki's grace project part (I think it was??) were really special and great, too!

I think it was Race Wish (think I've posted it on the first site of the thread), but am not so sure about it anymore.

Quote

Right, their new costumes rock, Teru's haircut looks as if he has been in some Dragonball manga *g* Talkin about Dragonball, do you have any idea what Kamijou was talkin about at the beginning, I just understood thinkgs like Dragonball, Kakarotto and Vegeta, but I had no idea what he wanted to tell us
You were in front of Teru and Jasmine? well, I was on the other site, right in front of Hizaki in the 3rd or 4th row, there weren't many rows behind me, so you can imagine that not really many people were there, perhaps 150 max I would say, that's really a pitty, cause they were great and I really hope they will come back to Germany soon.

Quote
Congratulation to you, matthias!  I forgot to watch out for you, actually I wanted to say hello to a fellow X-freak! >_<

Well with my casual look I would have been easier to find then most of the other people there *g* But we'll meet in Paris I think, won't we?

The prices weren't funny anymore. The ticket wasn't that cheap, 35 Euo, I saw Alter Bridge (which are way more famous ihmo, for 24 Euro), but I thought "Well, japanese Acts seem to be more expensive, don't mind". But the merchandise was really expensive. T-Shirt 25 Euro, okay, that's standard, but a poster 10 Euro, some pictures 20 Euro (at least I think) and the damn "A Noble was born in chaos" CD which includes only 3 tracks: 30 fucking Euro!!!

You can pre-order Noble on www.cede.ch !!!

It says the release date is 11.07.08 !

I guess I'll pre-order it. Cede.ch usually sends the CD before so you get it on the release date !

That's also the date listed on amazon.de, but in one of my previous post it was stated that it was pushed back (or the information there was wrong, don't know *g*)
Whatever, this seems to be the Coverart of the CD (also from amazon.de):

You're right, hide and Pata had less shred in their solos than Hizaki and Teru in this one, but I didn't only mean the type of playing but more the "Guitar Player 1 Solo" followed by "Guitar Player 2 Solo" and then "Guitar Player 1 and 2 Solo".

The X guys didn't invent that you know.   I could name you dozens of bands that used the same kind of solos and are older than X.

Anyway, the track I heard (Revenant Choir) sounded pretty okay. I didn't really like the solos, but the harmonies were cool and some of the riffs sounded good too. The only things that annoy me are the singer and the outfits  (they fucking freak me out!! I mean, dressing like 80s glam bands is one thing, but completely looking like a fucking chick is just plain weird). So they should get a good singer that can hit the high notes and doesn't sound like an old crossdresser with throat cancer and lose the outfits and dress a little.... errr... manlier (SPANDEX!!!).

Yeah I know that, it was just an example where I see the similarities between X and Versailles, but at the moment I have to admit that The Revenant Choir really sounds a little little bit like Silent Jealousy.

You're right the costumes (especially Hizaki) freaked me out at the beginning, too. But after some time, seeing them live and watching their videos I really dig the outfits. But I totally understand if someone doesn't like them

Here one track that shows another side of Versailles music, written by Teru it sounds a little bit more "rough" compared to their other stuff:

Well, I really like Versailles' outfit, it wouldn't be the same if they just wore some normal clothes. It's really original, it's not only music, they really built their own little world !

I haven't even listened to the previews. Too bad I already heard 3 of the songs that I downloaded some months ago when I was just discoverin' this band.

Yep, definitely, the re-recorded version of Revenant Choir is also just awesome! 10 x better than the older version :P The only song I don't really like, is Episode. The piano work in it is good and all, but the melodies aren't really appealing to me, the vocals are a bit too tame, would've needed a bit more expression of emotions or something :P Also he sings something like "oi kakataa" which sounds like "oi kakkattaa" in finnish, and it means "oh I need to poop" :P

It's a good debut album for Versailles and there are some real gems to be heard on the CD. As always, Teru and Hizaki are fantastic in their guitar playing, Yuki's drumming is solid and powerful while also a base for Jasmine You to work fantastically with.

My only crticism, which is something which I maintain and have said from the first time I listened to this band is: PLEASE stop being so cheap and have a real orchestra play the orchestral parts - computer generated VSTi's sound rubbish and cheesy. Such elegant and beautiful instrumentals deserve the timbre and emotion which a real orchestra would provide, these coputer generated sounds not only bring the production values down, on this, an otherwise fantastic sounding album, but also sound generally rubbish.

I agree, but I guess they aren't superstars enough to afford a real orchestra :P (or a good orchestra)

Orchestras are expensive, yes, but not bank-breaking. Look at Toshi, all of his solo work with Masaya has real string sections included, and lets be honest about this, the "Healing World" label surely doesn't have a great deal of profit attatched to it :p

Even Yoshiki uses computer generated strings these days - see all of his Violet UK stuff and even I.V. for details :p

Noble isn't that similar sounding as Lyrical Symphony but of course you can hear that the songs are made by the same artist *g*, I really like all the songs, but it have to admit that I seem to prefer the ones made by Teru.

Just found these two videos on YouTube, seems that the whole hide memorial concert of Versailles is online now, enjoy it: (including  The Revenant Choir)

^Cheers, I'd seen The Revenant Choir one, but not the others. Merci beaucoup :)

Noble arrived today! I'm only a little way through, but it sounds awesome already. The intro track is VERY Rhapsody-esque.

I had intended to elaborate on this and edit it with thoughts once I'd listened to the rest of the album, but didn't ::). Meh, ah well, I think Noble is an awesome album. It has far more "depth" than Lyrical Sympathy, much greater variety, Kamijo's singing seems better, and the guitar work sounds infinitely better, it's better altogether really. Unlike almost everyone else, I don't like Teru's songs that much (not that I DISlike them, I just prefer Hizaki's and Kamijo's), my favourites are Antique in the Future, Windress and History of the Other Side.

Oh, and The Revenant Choir. I love the remake ;D

Due to legal conflicts with a US artist with the same name, Versailles are going to change their band name in order to keep on performing their activities overseas. However, the band is going to keep the base "Versailles" and just add one more word after it.
The five members and thier management will be accepting suggestions from fans via e-mail according to the procedures below.

new band name and new song
Versailles is going to be temporarily called Versailles Philharmonic Quintet during its activities in the United States. The news has been officially announced at midnight at their official site (you can read the full announcement in Japanese here (http://artist-society.syncl.jp/?p=diary&di=48225)).

In addition, a brand new track has been distributed for free at the twoman concert with chariots in Osaka. The song is titled PRINCE and has been composed by HIZAKI and KAMIJO.

You can download the full song at Versailles' official website:
http://versailles.syncl.jp

So I'm curious if that's only the name during their US stint (how it sounds to me) or if they decide to keep it.

Prince sounds okay for me, but for now I don't think it's one of their best songs. *Let Teru write more songs *g**

BTW:
Versailles announced three releases for October:
►Versailles' first photobook: featuring photos from Versailles' first European and American tour. It will cost 4,000 yen and will be released in early October. An overseas release is also planned.
►NOBLE (second press): due October 22, it will come with the bonus track "PRINCE". However, the bonus DVD and deluxe package of the first press won't be included.
►Lyrical Sympathy (second press): due October 22, it will come without postcard and but will have a different cover art.

Thanks for that ;)

From the message on that page (lol at BEARUTIFUL ROSES mispelling :D), Versailles Philharmonic Quintet doesn't sound very temporary ::) I wonder if they'll just adopt that for the rest of the world.

Edit: Just from one listen, Prince sounds really good to me. I love the guiter solo section.

Maybe. But honestly I really don't mind that much, at first I wasn't that happy about the name (and still could think about a lot of better names *g*), but at the end of the day it's only a name and Versailles is still in it, so I'm just gonna call them Versailles *g*

Versailles Shashinshu Philharmonc Quintet arrived today and there are some really cool pics in it, also from the munich concert and even two small pics of the meet & greet but you can't see me damn it ;)

On 10th december their new single Prince & Princess is gonna be released and there are different versions for each bandmember, so I guess I'm gonna order the Teru one.

From cdjapan (http://www.cdjapan.co.jp/aff/click.cgi/PytJTGW7Lok/1175/A190521/rcms%2Fjpop%2Fversailles_exclusive_poster_offer.html): The descendants of the rose, visual kei band Versailles Philharmonic Quintet finally releases their first single "Prince & Princess" on December 10, 2008!

This single includes two songs "PRINCE" and "PRINCESS" that correspond to each other. "PRINCESS" is a new song, and "PRINCE" was previously included on the album "NOBLE."

To commemorate this release, CDJapan offers an exclusive B2-size "Versailles" poster to customers who order regular edition together with at least one of the five versions of limited editions.

Although they have a new bassist, Jasmine You will always be a part of the band, as the group say that Versailles will consist of 6 members instead of the original 5 in Jasmine You’s memory.

sounds familiar, doubt they'll do any more "hide" on Jasmine You" than that though

Versaille in Berlin - what a gorgeous show, it took place in a nice and cosy venue, good filled with friendly and relaxed people, on stage beautiful men in wonderful costumes making quite good rock music, a lot from their new album, it was awesome, after that a short meet and great, nice fan service - arigatou gosaimasu guys

Just have to say Versailles is a damn amazing band. Revenant choir has that X japan style in a song that I so dearly miss from our X boys. Definately a super epic song. Versailles is right up there with X japan for me. They simply make amazing songs, and really create that atmospheric feel + they are technically amazing. Gods Palace, Princess, Aristocrats Symphony, Revenant, Faith and decision, Destiny the lovers just blow my mind to pieces @_@. Love their look too, definately easy on my eyes

Gods palace - the intro verse with the acoustic guitar part - OMG, whole song brings you through a huge range of feelings from dark to happy to magical (near the end lol)
Aristocrats symphony - the drumming on the first verse - @_@
Revenant choir - the intro
Destiny the lovers - hibiku.......

BTw i am so jealous you got to see them in Berlin...what I would give to see revenant choir and aristocrats live...

oh another thing since I dont hae many ppl to talk to versailles about. Kurenai is one of my fav songs of all time, musta listened to it atleast 1000 times over the years but revenant choir is right beside kurenai for me in terms of most epic song ever. Definately nottttttttttttttttttt a rip off as some ppl said 4 years ago  :)

Oh nooooo... What's going on? Are they serious?! Damn, I've totally forgotten to check out any news recently, 'cause I'd supposed the band is fine and is working on new material or something.... It would be really sad if they stop their activity T.T
Anyway, thanks for sharing the information.

So sad =( It sounds positive though, that they will do 'separate activities' and are waiting for support. But they've been such an unequaled band. The only one of its kind, I'd say.

I wouldn't be surprised if that'd be the end for good ... and if that's really the case I at least hope that some of the members decide to participate in future projects together.
