Press conference of LUNA SEA 3D in LOS ANGELES premiere in Tokyo

n the movie theater we were presented with a short clip about the movie LUNA SEA’S 3-D. But as soon as the video had started it ended abruptly and Shoji Noriko entered the stage. Shoji Noriko is essentially the mother of visual rock so who was a more perfect person to host this event

She started off by asking the members what they discovered upon doing their world tour.

Shinya: People were really waiting for this.
Sugizo: It wasn’t so much a discovery at all; rather it felt just like it always did. But you did feel like things had changed. It felt like coming home. That was the best part.
J: We’d always supported one another.
Ryuichi: It was a miracle.

The company 3ality produced LUNA SEA’S 3-D concert and gave us a bit of background information on the process before the members talked about how they felt about the concert themselves.

“We wanted to give you the feeling that you were actually there; to convey the actual feeling of a live. We’d always played arenas and stadiums but with LA, it was much more personal. 3,000 people so you’ll be able to see something you’ve never seen before.”

Sugizo: When you get into your 40’s, your body and your heart start to go downhill a little, you know? But with this time, we thought like, “Damn, we’re a pretty good band.”
Inoran: We were really close to everyone in LA, which was nice.

The members talked about how they were always playing huge venues in Japan to crowds of 55,000 people or more, so 3,000 people in LA was a very intimate experience for them.

Ryuichi: But we were told that was pretty normal (laughs)

At this point Shoji Noriko offered to ask a few questions from the fans.

Shoji Noriko: Alright first question! What kind of movie would you want to make now?

J: The 5 of us, we’re all living different lives so that might make an interesting movie.
Shinya: Pirates of the Caribbean!
Sugizo: Pirates of the Caribbean 5! I want to make that a PV…
Ryuichi: LUNA SEA 3-D II

(the crowd ooohs)

Tell us who has changed the most and why?... If I may say so, I think Inoran has changed the most!

Inoran: Huh me? Why?
Shoji Noriko: Well everyone else has seemed pretty grown up from the beginning but you always seemed more boyish.
Ryuichi: I changed the most I think! I always wore ladies pants and had extensions. Red, ones, green ones…
Sugizo: I’ve changed on the inside but the outside has pretty much remained the same.
(the other members start to tease Shinya)
Shinya: I can answer for myself! (laughs) My inside hasn’t really changed but my outside sure has.

Shoji Noriko: Lastly a message from the members to the fans.

Ryuichi: We have a live on October 22 at Saitama Super Arena!

(fans cheer and when they settle down Inoran continues)

Inoran: This is a movie theater but please have just as much fun as if you were in L.A.
Shinya: There’s never been anything like it!
J: Have fun like you’re at a live!
Sugizo: It’s a ROCK MOVIE. In 3-D. It’s neither your average movie nor just your average convert. So get crazy just like you’re at a live!

LUNA SEA 3-D is truly a movie that allows fans to see a side of LUNA SEA that they have never seen before. As the members themselves said, no other rock band has made a movie made out of their tour like this. This proves to a be a truly eye-opening experience and only serves to further prove that the world is expanding and more and more boundaries are being broken in the world of international music. If there will ever be a second movie the members have promised us a performance that even goes above and beyond the first one.

LUNA SEA 3-D in LOS ANGELES opened to the public on June 4th 2011.
It will be playing in 60 different theaters. Tickets are 2’000 yen in advance and 2’500 yen on the day of.

Ryuichi: First of filming was…really exciting. It was pretty scary and although we kept thinking, “What are we going to do if this fails?” more than anything, 100 times, 1000 times, that is to say plunging forward, even to the people coming to see this 3-D movie, that I guess we’d be getting across that fever, that breath, wouldn’t we. I’m really looking forward to it.

Sugizo: In 40 years we haven’t relaxed for one moment. To become one, to be able to become one, with no regard for national borders, genre, culture, religion; just living up to that.

J: Before this, having our live footage done in 3-D wasn’t something we ever thought about. We thought it was too great of a thing to be done, you know? I think it’s going to be footage that shows a breath of life from each one of the members and I’m looking forward to it being complete.

Shinya: After all, I like that LUNA SEA is like an unknown number, something that you don’t know. Not to say that you can’t expect anything from us but I think it’s great that we really destroy the idea of our physical ages. If you think you’re past the age of being cool because of your physical age so you do less than you feel you have to, I feel that’s bad. All you can do is push yourself.

Inoran: On this world tour there were people who had called out to us from farther than ever before and we felt like going to meet them. We were happy to do that, to be able to do that; feeling that so surely and experiencing it, we felt so blessed to be playing music.
