Now I have it.  I mean the physical VHS tape, 'cause I'm so oldschool that I like things like that.  And I would totally show you guys the parts missing from this great thread darkcat made, except I live in a cave in the Pleistoscene era (56k connection + old computer + yes I really still have a VCR and still know how to program it).

Anyway I just wanted to ask you guys if you wanted me to go into detail about it (some kind of review I guess?), or if you had any specific questions about it that you always wanted to know, etc. etc.  If anyone's interested interested I'd be happy to write something like that, just ask. ;)

Just some random interesting observations I thought you guys might want to know:
- The quality is quite bad... on purpose.  I'm dead serious.  There is a fair amount of "grain" or "noise" in the picture on most of the songs, but NOT on a few of them (Empty Room, for one, which is as clear and noise-free as one can expect from VHS).  It honestly looks like this was some kind of, uh, "artistic choice"... maybe they wanted the video to look old and gritty, I have no idea.
- The band members shown and named on the back cover are Taiji Sawada, Mitsuo Takeuchi, Taiji Fujimoto, and Tomoyuki Kuroda.  Yeah, this is yet another different official DTR lineup. The liner notes also include Kenji Shimizu and Toshihiko Okabe as support members.  So Toshihiko was at some point demoted from full member (during the first album) to support, I guess?  Ouch.
- Kenji is waaaay far away from the rest of the band, I have no idea why. :P  He's on the upper-right part of the stage, up two flights of stairs from the main part of the stage.
- The video is 60 minutes.
- IT FUCKING ROCKS!!

So yeah, let me know if you want MOAR.  Since I don't have any way to show you the parts you haven't seen, I figure the least I can do is tell you stuff.

You are such a sadistic asshole!   *unsilent jealousy*

:P No no, just kidding!
Awwww! I'm really happy that you could get that video! :D :D :D CONGRATS!!!
I'm not sure what to ask now. Damn...

Hey, but really interesting, that Kenji is so far away and that Toshihiko was really just support in the end. And then it's really cool that Kenji finally made it to a member of the band nowadays (ignoring that there's no activity anymore since months  ).

Holy shit! Make sure that you take care of that treasure! This is a holy relic of the history of rock! :D

Did you see that cute kiss finally? Yowie alert, heheh!
Woah, wanna see that full video! What I know from the extracts I've seen till now they really fuckin' rock! Dudes shake yar hair! WOOHOO!

Sadistic asshole + unsilent jealousy = sadistic desire?

Aww, and thanks for your congrats! :D  Yeah, I've wanted this for a long long time and now I finally have it!  Uh, I'm trying not to be an asshole about it  but I'm just so excited and wanna talk about it more, heheh.

The Kenji thing, it's really funny, for the first few songs I don't think they show him at all (either that or I didn't notice), and suddenly I thought "hey, isn't Kenji here somewhere?" and wondered if he was backstage or something... you know how some bands don't like to show that there's a keyboard... :P  But later on they show him more, and Mitsuo goes up and "visits" him a few times.  Also he seems to be the main backup singer (on choruses and stuff) if I'm not mistaken.  I have to watch a few more times and get used to whose voice is whose, but there are at least a couple times where they show him singing.  His voice isn't bad by the way.

Yes ma'am!

Heheh, yeah, saw the kiss!  Definitely cute-- Taiji looks at Mitsuo like "haha WTF?"

Haha, same here... DVD's are cool, but nothing beats the old classics!

Congratulations there, mate! It's nice to see that at least there's still a possibility of getting a hold of that VHS... Maybe someday... Someday...

About Kenji, in one of those videos Darkcat posted on Youtube I also noticed him far away on stage... But it's weird... In most early photos of D.T.R the members shown are Taiji, Taiji, Mitsuo, Toshihiko (at least I think so...)... And now you said in the back of the VHS they show the Taijis, Mitsuo and Tomo... Can't really imagine any band demoting a drummer and calling him back as a guest member...  :?:

Thanks for the congrats! :D

And they're still out there, but mostly in places that don't ship overseas-- Yahoo! Japan Auctions, the Japanese version of Amazon Marketplace, etc.  So you have to use a "shopping service" which is kind of a pain in the ass (but worth it ).  Actually the one I used was pretty good though...

Yeah, the Toshihiko thing is really weird.  I'm going to see if I can find a scan of the back cover somewhere to show you guys.  It's exactly like you said, in Dirty Trashroad (and Acoustic), he's not only named as an official member but he's also in the booklet photos...

Dirty Trashroad lineup: Taiji, Mitsuo, Taiji, Toshihiko (support: Ichiro, Shigeo Komori)

Video lineup: Taiji, Mitsuo, Taiji, Tomoyuki (support: Kenji, Toshihiko)

Daring Tribal Roar lineup: Taiji, Mitsuo, Taiji, Tomoyuki (support: Roger Takahashi, Shigeo Komori)

WTF?

Hmm, I need to sometime update this on that thread where I tried to keep track of these things.  Seriously, can you think of ANY other major-label band which changed members this many times in the course of about two years?

Nope... Not that I can't think of...  8)

You said that on "Dirty Trashroad" Tomoyuki Kuroda was not an official member yet? What about "Acoustic"? Because I have a scan here and I can't tell if it's from "Acoustic" or "Dirty Trashroad" (it's that one with the pic Camicat compared to Motörhead a while ago) and Tomo's name is there (credited as one of the "hand clap" dudes)...

That one picture is from the Acoustic CD! :D But I can't see a list of "official members" in the booklet, so I cannot judge really...

Tomo's clapping was so fucking badass that they made him a full member on the next album!

No, really, it's so funny, I looked through the whole Acoustic booklet thing just now and... the ONLY mention of Tomo, in the whole thing, is the part you saw: "hand clap" on Circle of Nations.

Other than that the lineup is the same as Dirty Trashroad.  "D.T.R are": Taiji, Mitsuo, Taiji, Toshihiko, supported by Ichiro and Shigeo Komori.  By the way, "supported by" is apparently still better than "musician", because under the "supported by" part is the violinist guy, in a smaller font, but he's just "musician".  (Who comes up with all this stuff??  There are, like, degrees to which people are or aren't in the band...)  Dirty Trashroad and Acoustic both have the same release date in fact, so if the lineups were different... that would be even more fucked up than usual, heheh.

Oh yeah, and I just checked-- no Tomo at all in Dirty Trashroad.

Whoa, this is like owning stonehedge - a piece of history!

:!:
So true! XD

As for the lineup thing: I thought about this for a while (okay, some seconds ) and I remembered the chaos all in all between Japanese muscians. You know... some form a band and then it starts: "Hell, we need a mouth organ player for this!"
Then they get more ideas for songs with that instrument - e voila: A new member.
For the later albums they figure they don't need that guy anymore, but only for the lives and so he's only support.

In fact... I just think the guys have been puzzled about this issue as well and didn't really care about the changes.
Like: "Damn, we have so many members, this looks so nerdy! A really cool rock band has like... four members... :o Guys? We roll the dice - the ones who lose are only mentioned as support in the booklet, aye?"

:D
