Offtopic / Aghhh! Need help. X Japan tattoo design
« on: September 07, 2010, 01:19:01 PM »
Hi guys,

looking at popping my tattoo virginity with an X Japan tattoo and looking for ideas/suggestions. I made a quick 30 minute one in photoshop but I dunno.. there's something missing?? I like it but I cant help but feel like it needs something else or something changing.. here's my first idea:

http://a.imageshack.us/img37/2833/xjapantat.jpg

I was thinking maybe the scroll needs a bit of colour.. but what colour? Does anyone else have ideas based around this or maybe even new ideas? Has anyone designed any nice X Japan logo's they want to share and maybe permanently have your work of art on my body? :D

« on: August 23, 2010, 05:55:44 PM »
Hi guys,

I dont know how expensive these prices are compared to buying them at the stadium (I assume thats where they were on sale) but Japan-Discoveries.com has a bunch of new X stuff. The one that intrigues me the most is the "Preserved Rose"

Most of the new stuff is listed here

Anyone got anymore pics of that rose? :D

Cheers :D

General chat / X JAPAN in New York Question
« on: July 14, 2010, 02:47:13 PM »
Hi folks :D

X have said they will be doing an american tour and I am pretty sure one of the places they're gonna play is New York. Now I have a few questions and i'm hoping someone could help me out. Obviously no official details have been announced but I was hoping some people may have a rough idea on a few things. Most of the questions will be based upon the answer from the first one.

1. What is the most likely place they will perform in NY? Obviously there are many different venues they could perform so I was hoping someone may have an idea as to which one they'd play in.
2. Can anyone recommend places to stay near the place they'll be performing?
3. Rough cost of travelling from the airport to the arena?
4. Any worthy tourist attractions in/around the area?

Obviously the first 2 questions are the important ones but if anyone is located near the likely choice of arena or has been before, I was hoping they could share some info.

As you may have guessed, i'm seeing if I can make it to a show in NY. Its gonna cost me a fair bit but I want to make a weeks holiday out of the trip and see other stuff but obviously X will be the main reason. I'm just trying to get a rough guess on how much its going to cost as I do plan on taking out a bank loan for this :D I dont need exact figures but if I can work out a rough price of how much it'll cost me then that'll be awesome :D

« on: September 01, 2009, 07:38:58 PM »
http://japan-discoveries.com/index.php?main_page=index

hey folks, was wondering if anyone had used these before? They look legit and they list contact information and store location in Japan so I assume they're fine.. my friend wants to order the HEATH FERNANDEZ BASS on there but was wondering if anyone knew how reliable they were? As I said, all looks fine but would prefer confirmation. He's planning on ordering it at the weekend.

Offtopic / Whatever happened to...
« on: July 15, 2008, 03:07:28 PM »
the days when a fan forum was run by the fans, for the fans? When did fan forums start becoming like nazi dictatorships? This is not the first forum I've seen it happen to. I've seen it happen to countless forums. Its not necessarily the owners fault.. sometimes they are backed into a corner and forced to make decisions that may not be fair or may not be easy.. but I remember the days when those admins/owners said "Fuck you!" to the pressure.

It is a shame to see such a wonderful forum hit rock bottom and I know for a fact a LOT of people will disagree with me and claim that this forum is still going strong and wonderfully.. but I also know a lot of people (mostly older members) that agree with me. It is a shame that it was only a handful of people that caused the downfall.. but those people have ruined it for most.

I'm not naming any names in this post for the simple fact it would be unfair to push blame on any one person or group of people.. and if this post is locked or doesnt exist in the next 24 hours, it only reinforces the point i'm making.

Good luck to you all. I'm not leaving.. I'll still pop back occasionally to check on any X updates i've missed and stay in touch with some people.. but I just thought I'd leave some thoughts with you. Agree or disagree with me.. it doesnt really matter to be honest.

Take it easy folks :D

---------
Edit by Lucs : just to say I haven't edited anything :P I was browsing the forum and double clicked on the link (instead of simple click) and it opened a form and edited the title (didn't know about this function ! Guess it works only on IE). Sorry.

Important / Requesting a bit of help..
« on: October 23, 2007, 03:06:03 PM »
As some may know (but most will not), I've been working on an X Japan information site which I was hoping to be the number 1 site for INFORMATION about X Japan and its members. I've been doing it myself with help from a couple of people. Anna has been helping out with translations and Mark has.. well.. he's doing nothing so far, but he said he'll help  :P

Anyway, its getting to be a bit much to gather all the information myself so I'm looking for help from you guys and girls. I want to point out a few things first though.

This is an INFORMATION site. While it is a site by fans and for fans, its not really a fansite. There wont be any picture galleries, fanart or anything like that. There wont be any downloads either. Its purely for information. I'll show you a small screenshot:

Thats the X Japan section. The tabs along the top are like seperate mini-sites for each artist and each one has unique menu's.. here's the Yoshiki one:

so yeah. The colours arent the final thing.. the design and colours are the least important so they'll be last thing that gets worked on, for now i'm trying to get all the information together. I've got most information for X but I havent started with the others yet and thats where you fine people come in :D

As hide was the most active solo member, I need people to help out with him.
I need the following information for all merchandise (cds, dvds, vhs etc):

Release Date:
Catalog Number:
Publisher:
Average Price:
Places to Buy:
Tracklist:

Places to buy isnt important as they will be links to the product on YesAsia/CDJapan/HMV and any other sites. It wont take long to get them so if you can get them, great.. but dont worry about them :)

If anyone can help with this that would be awesome. As you can see in the Yoshiki screenshot, i'm also doing all the projects the members worked on so i'll need all the information for their other bands (Zilch for hide, Dope HEADz for Pata/Heath etc)

Also, if you are getting info for cds, I need ALL info, so limited editions, reissues, remasters etc.. they all have different catalog numbers and are usually different prices with new songs or new cover art or something.

The only ones I dont need help with (for now anyway) are X Japan and Pata. Pata is my favourite so i've already got a bit of info for his part. I need help with Toshi/hide/Heath/Taiji and any older members (Kerry, Jun, Atsushi etc)

If anyone can help out, leave a reply with the bits you'll be finding so members dont find the same things (eg. "I'll get hide CD Album/Single information", "I'll get hide Photobook information")

I wouldnt recommend saying "I'll get all hide information" as its not as easy as it sounds... TRUST ME :P

I'm looking to get the site up and running as soon as possible but I dont want  to put it up now and slowly add information.. I want to put it up already completed (or nearly completed) and then start promoting it. We will probably see a new fanbase appearing with the reunion of X Japan and if they start touring US/Europe then new fans will want information about the older stuff they did so I want this to be the #1 source for information.

Everyone who helps out will be fully credited in the ThanX section in any way you want. I can put your real name, username, link to your myspace, email, whatever you want. I've been working on this since May but had to push it to the side because I started a new job. Now i'm looking to get it back on track with help from everyone else :D

If you cant help, dont worry about it.

Oh, and if the site does well, I was looking at getting competitions up so you can win stuff.. thats in the future though so i'm not worrying about that yet :P

edit: thought i'd mention, the "Ebay Sellers" bit is where i'll provide links to verified ebay sellers with excellent feedback who dont sell bootlegs and only sell genuine products. I think that particular section will be quite useful for the new fans :)

Here are some sites where the info will be, if you have anymore then add to the list :D

Aoi Yoru/Shiroi Yoru / hide no heya (Shiroi Yoru)
« on: August 28, 2007, 04:12:49 PM »
Just incase anyone wanted to know, the song at the END of the hide no heya performance which plays when hide is leaving the stage and before Toshi plays "Say Anything" is called "A Whiter Shade of Pale" by the artist Procol Harum and can be seen/heard .

Anyone know the first song that plays?

Aoi Yoru/Shiroi Yoru / Heath Solo
« on: August 21, 2007, 01:16:02 PM »
Incase anyone didnt know (as I didnt at first), the music heath plays at the beginning of his bass solo is actually from Phantom Of The Opera. I was playing it at work and the guy I worked with said "Oh thats cool, thats the music from Phantom Of The Opera!"

I just found out the song, its the "Overture / Hannibal" song on the soundtrack. Its the 2nd track on the album. After that, he plays his own song "Daydream"

Just a small bit of useless info incase anyone wanted to know :D

Aoi Yoru/Shiroi Yoru / Favourite performance on Aoi Yoru?
« on: August 06, 2007, 12:23:16 PM »
So, to the people who have watched it, what was your favourite performance on the DVD?

My favourite was "Say Anything featuring Toshi". It was such an amazing performance. My second favourite was "Rose Of Pain featuring Toshi, hide and Pata". I dont know why but those 2 acoustic performances were just spectacular. I loved them.

Aoi Yoru/Shiroi Yoru / Aoi Yoru (Blue Night) Rant
« on: August 06, 2007, 12:19:13 PM »
I'm sure some people were expecting this anyway so here goes :D

I watched Blue Night last night and I'm here to bitch about the one and only Yoshiki (again). I was thorougly enjoying the concert and then came the piano solo.. and the only word I can think of to describe how it started is "beautiful".

but its funny how something so beautiful can be ruined by something so small.

It started off so wonderfully, it had me glued to the screen.. then Yoshiki started playing very quickly on the lower end of the piano and it wasnt as bad as his "bashing" but it just didnt fit in after the first part of the piano solo I thought. That only lasted about 30 seconds and while it wasnt great, it didnt ruin the song. Then he started playing Amethyst with a woman playing along with him on Violin. Again, this was beautiful. It sounded so wonderful. She started away from him and slowly moved towards him and at the end of the song, she was sitting down next to him.. then Yoshiki had to ruin it by bashing on the piano. Is it really that hard for him to end his piano playing without bashing?

Up until that point, I thought the piano solo was one of the best i've heard from him.. but his stupid bashing completely ruined it at the end. Why cant he end it like he ends Endless Rain when he plays that live?

Rant #2:

The drum solo. Again, it started off quite beautifully. A big round silver ball thing came up from the ground with some lovely classical music playing in the background and lights shining on it.. after a couple of minutes he started playing the drums and the ball opened to show him playing. Now the drum solo as a whole I thought was good. The thing that I DIDNT like was the classical music in the background. Pick one or the other PLEASE. Combining a fast-paced drum solo with slow classical music is such an extreme and horrible contrast and it sounds AWFUL. I'm not bothered when he acts like a big drama queen and falls over his drum kit and the classical music is playing.. its just when he's playing drums while the classical music is playing. Its horrible. I hate it!

Rant over. Bitch at me if you want, I dont care. I might copy and paste this and send it to him on myspace

General chat / X Japan Downloading "Debate"
« on: July 20, 2007, 01:20:17 AM »
Its not really a debate but yeah, instead of filling up the other topic, post everything in here. I'll keep it rolling:

Nande_Ebisu, what you are failing to realise is that Yoshiki has already earned his money for these DVD releases before they are out.

This might change with the newer releases but do you know why its hard to find some older X stuff? They dont make them anymore. They (the record company) produced... lets say 2 million units and then distributed them to various shops and companies. Thats it. They dont make anymore. The record company probably doesnt have any left because they've sold them all. Therefore, the record company has made all the money they'll make on those units and so has Yoshiki. HOWEVER, the shops might lose out if no-one buy them. The shops spent X amount of money for the dvds and if they dont sell them all, they havent necessarily lost money but they've lost profits.

If they (the shops) buy 10 dvds for $5 each ($50 total) and sell them all for $10 each ($100 total), once they've sold 5 units, they've broke even. If they dont sell anymore, they havent gained or lost any of their money. If they do sell more, they gain profit.

I hope that makes sense. If you dont buy the dvds or cds, Yoshiki still gets paid. In most cases, the record company will pay the artist a certain amount whether they sell 1 dvd or 1 million dvds. Its the record companies and shops that will lose out so you dont have to worry about Yoshiki not having as much as he should.

Anyway, its EXTREMELY cheap to produce dvds. Obviously it costs a bit more to put it in a fancy box but it probably costs i'd say about $30 MAX to produce this boxset coming out, yet the recommended retail price is $165! Its us that are keeping these people in business so they shouldnt piss on us. Its not like they have to worry about paying extra for any copyrights because they own it all. Its different for films as the studios will have to pay record companies to use songs but in this case, the record company doesnt have to pay any extra fees out.

I could go on forever here but i'll switch back to downloading:

I say download it all. Download everything. Most of the older stuff isnt available anymore and if you buy it from eBay, the only person that gains money is the seller. Yoshiki doesnt gain anything from it and he doesnt lose anything if you download it. With the newer releases, while I do think you should buy it, if its a choice between paying the rent or buying an X Japan dvd, obviously you choose paying the rent.

From your posts, what you are saying (or at least what i'm reading) is that if you choose to download it because you have no money or you need the money for food/rent, you are not a fan. That is bullshit.

If you download it and have LOTS of money, watch it all the time and refuse to buy it, THAT is a bad fan in my opinion. I've downloaded EVERY X-Related thing ever (I think). That includes stuff produced by the members of X, other bands that the members were in, songs that the members contributed to albums or movie soundtracks etc. I DOWNLOADED IT ALL. Why? Its not because I'm not a fan and dont support the artists. Its because I am a fan and I had NO money. Are you saying that I shouldnt be allowed to enjoy this because they wont give me a pay-rise at my job and I cant afford to buy it?

HOWEVER, on the rare occasion I do get extra money, I dont spend it on beer and hookers, I buy one of those things i've downloaded. I have pretty much everything X-Related, yet the only originals I own are:

X Japan Complete Best II Boxset
Art of Life DVD
Art of Life CD
X Japan Best (U.S. Release)
Blue Blood (Remastered Version)
Jealousy (Remastered Version)
6x 8CM Singles
hide Perfect Single Collection Boxset
Pata's Bootleg (VHS, Official release, not actually a bootleg)
2 "Official" posters and 3 non-official ones.
2 Photobooks (Rose & Blood Tour/Final Legend)

Thats it. Not a lot compared to the 60GB of stuff i've downloaded. I'm slowly building it up though.

I've lost track of what my point was because i'm tired and i have to sleep because i'm working in 8 hours.. but really, downloading is good. Downloading AND SELLING COPIES IS BAD!! I will never approve of that. Downloading copies for yourself is fine though. Yeah, you should buy the stuff but if its no longer officially available (meaning available through stores and not ebay), dont worry about it. If it is, buy it when you can afford. NO ARTIST IS WORTH PUTTING YOURSELF IN A BAD SITUATION.

If you would rather pay yesasia.com (who already have lots and lots of money) $160 than pay your rent and eat food, you are an idiot. Remember, the record companies or shops might be losing out if lots of people download it, but they are already RICH. Its not like THEY wont be able to afford to eat if you dont buy it.

Am I the only who isnt in the "OMG ITS YOSHIKI/GACKT/SUGIZO/MIYAVI SO IT WILL BE AMAZING AND PERFECT AND THE BEST THING EVER MADE" mode??

As much as I like all of the above artists, I watched the clips on youtube and downloaded a few.. and I just thought they were average. I liked them but some people are acting like they are the most amazing band on the planet. The members solo/other stuff may be.. but in my opinion, S.K.I.N. hasnt lived up to the hype. I'd still love to see them live but really, they're not as good as I hoped.
