Heath / Re: News of Heath's death
« on: November 10, 2023, 02:02:51 AM »
Yoshiki just posted that they plan an official announcement for tomorrow

https://twitter.com/YoshikiOfficial/status/1722611608571306171

I'd like to be optimistic but I feel like this is going to be the final disbandment, once and for all. So sad that this is the way things come to an end if that's the case, but the writing has been on the wall for some time and this feels like a difficult hurdle to get past at this point. I don't meant to sound insensitive reducing the literal death of a human being to a "hurdle," but in the context of the challenge of bringing X back, it really just does seem like an obstacle that won't be overcome on top of all the other issues.

Regardless, Heath's passing, as tragic as it is, should serve as a reminder to us all that no matter how much success we enjoy, death comes for us all and often times it's sooner than we expect. May we all strive to live each day to the fullest for those whose lives ended sooner than expected. Appreciate the small things, and make sure the people you love know it. Life is too short for trivialities.

Holy shit, that's so sad. I was just lamenting a few days ago that I'd probably never get to see them live again (saw them in 2010 at Roseland Ballroom in NY, and then when they played at Madison Square Garden) but was so happy that I got to see them in my lifetime. This solidifies it, I think. Heath was such a talented musician and a warm presence to the band. Very sad to hear this and I hope all of his family, friends, and fans cherish his memory as a blessing. We are X.

Well, that's disappointing. I check in once every six-ish months to see if there's any actual X news.

What a fizzle out for X this feels like. I know that it isn't a definite end, but come on, the writing has been on the wall for years. It's been excuse after excuse, and a long time coming.

I live in New York and checked on the cost of tickets for seeing Last Rockstars for their live performance here in a few months out of morbid curiosity and the cheapest ticket is $143 USD for standing room only. No thanks. But it's also Ticketmaster, so, no surprise there anyway.

I'm pretty confident that drummer is Tamu Murata. She's been part of some amazing full band X song covers on YouTube. Love how much fun she always seems to be having!

Cool, another vanity project for Yoshiki instead of working on the X album we were promised over a decade ago. Business as usual.

Is it possible there's some type of NDA in place? I never realized how difficult it was to deal with speaking to people about a subject until I signed one myself.

Turning into a Yoshiki forum? What the Fuck. April fools, right?

What a joke. What a stupid decision. X Japan was Yoshiki, Toshi, and hide

I feel like it's pretty obvious that yes, this is an April Fools joke, but let's face it, Yoshiki treats X fans like every day is April 1st.

Hey, friends! Been a while. :) Glad to see not much has changed since my departure...! haha

I was at the MSG show, and as a New York resident, I've been to many shows there. X-Japan certainly did not sell the place out. They definitely reduced the available seating compared to more packed shows, and even the seats that were there were NOT full. I would say maybe 30 - 25% of the available seats were empty, especially the higher back you looked. Didn't affect my enjoyment of the show, though! :)

Before registration on this forum was possible again, I've already been reading here for months and liked the fact that criticism, sarcasm or even just expressing frustration towards X was fine here (back then, I was on Xwonderland, which was just boringly and annoyingly supportive and uncritical).

Ehhh. . . I never really got into Xwonderland (only went there for jacking links for downloads, huehuehuehue), but from what I could tell, yeah, it looked like a huge circle jerk in a echo room. Redundant description, but whatever, you know what I mean. But point being, yeah, I do appreciate that we all can be honest with each other in one way or another. I'd rather have a civil debate here than on Twitter or wherever else the Nurses & hardcore Yoshiki stans reside.

Negative remarks about other board members without context or off topic, on the other hand, are bound to lead to lengthy, mostly pointless discussions, probably on online forums in general.
And although I'm sometimes bored enough to read them, like now, I could certainly do without them, and think most people could.

Honestly, not to sound like a huge jerk, but I enjoy reading the arguments that get thrown around here on occasion. It helps pass the time, lol.

(I'll miss ya if or when you go StarWarsArtist. Your insight & fairly objective way of looking at the current situation on X Japan has always been a good read.)

Likewise, my friend! It's been a trip. :)

And my sentiments exactly. There are so many avenues where blind loyalty to Yoshiki gets the better of people and anyone with an objective complaint is essentially crucified. I liked posting here because it always felt like a place where even if we don't agree, the community has always been relatively respectful of one another's opinions. Disagreement does not warrant hostility. We're ALL passionate fans here. We ALL care about this band.

I really don't like the "If you do/don't like ____, you need to leave" mentality. That promotes blind echo chamber reasoning. As soon as you stop taking outside perspective into consideration, you stop growing in general. Of course, everyone needs to make up their own minds, but being closed-minded is a sure-fire way to make less informed decisions and opinions. Not just regarding X, but life in general. It's a shame that's where things seem to be here now. I get that each side of the matter is sick of the other's opinion, but maybe that's a sign that both sides of the argument are important enough for consideration. Just saying.

I don't think I've ever agreed with a single thing I've ever seen Teemeah say since she came to the forums. I typically don't appreciate her, what appears to me, lack of empathy with the long-time fans (it's really easy to not be frustrated when you haven't been sitting through a decade of empty promises and long stretches of time with no real movement. You aren't emo if you're frustrated over a long period of time after the thing frustrating you doesn't change or improve.). It's been a literal decade and, in my personal opinion, for a rock band to not produce a promised album in that timespan...it's completely warranted to be frustrated with unrelated projects and other distractions. I think I've agreed with just about every post I've ever seen Feudal drop since I joined here 2010ish. He shares my sentiments more often than not.

That said, I think his comment about Teemeah was unnecessary, regardless of the fact that Teemeah more often than not complains about people voicing their frustration on a relevant message board for discussion. I really think we all just need to agree to disagree. The people booing are doing it because they want to cheer, after a long string of disappointments with no sign of improvement in sight. The people cheering are less focused on the disappointments and are just really enjoying discovering the band in general. We were all there at one point, which is why some of us are so disappointed now.

Just wanted to throw in my two cents. Between the lack of substantial news, and the constant tension between members, I'm constantly bummed out when I check in here. I haven't been posting as a result. I'm just happier without this stuff in my life. I'm considering leaving the forums myself. I'm not asking for anyone to beg me to stay, but just want to put that thought out there as food for thought to anyone that may be feeling the same way I am and would like to see this community the way it was just a few years back.

It's one thing to be disappointed and another thing to spoil everyone else's fun time every single time at every single post because you are disapopointed. Whatever I post, I get the sarcastic but where is the album and why is yoshiki not doing this and he should just blow up and disband why is this band even together rants. Whereer. Post a photo of yoshiki smiling? Instant boo yoshiki is msiling, he should be working on the album. Post a news of a concert? Boo, Yoshiki is a drama queen blablabla. This is just enough already. Sympathy? Have YOU GUYS every showed any sympathy towards anyone else not agreeing with your depressed sarcastic replies to everything? I think you have gotten enough sympathy, what else do you guys want? Constant patting on the head, "oh poor old time fans, so bad for you". Get over it. You all blame yoshiki for not getting over his past, hide and stuff like that, but you are doing the exact same. That's not fandom. You are playing victim, while accusing and throwing stones at Yoshiki claiming he plays victim. None of you are any better than Yoshiki. There, my 5 cents.

I didn't ask for sympathy. I asked for empathy. There's a difference. And you're continuously demonstrating that you have no desire to exercise empathy. No one is asking for pity.

Look. I don't have a problem with you. I have a problem with the toxic dynamic between many of us in general. I don't frequent those other topics, I visit the ones regarding news about the band. If people are attacking Yoshiki over posting a photo, then yes, that is excessive and unnecessary. Giving you a hard time for writing fan fiction is excessive and unnecessary. Starting shit where there is none is excessive and unnecessary.

Also, I've NEVER seen anyone claim that Yoshiki needs to "get over" hide's death, or his father's death. All I've seen in the threads I visit are people saying Yoshiki needs to follow up on his promises, because he has a reputation to promise the world and then not deliver. And lie about the progress of it. No one wants him to jeopardize his (or the rest of the band's) health, no one wants him to "get over" his past, no one is being unreasonable in terms of feeling that an album that is continuously promised over the course of ten years is, for lack of a better word, owed to us. It's his art, but when you make a promise, it's on you to deliver. You owe that promise. I absolutely, 100% understand how people feel every time he announces stuff that has nothing to do with the album, because it's more time spent away from the thing he's constantly lied about delivering. For ten years. This is the place for people to voice their frustrations. This has been our community to discuss the highs and lows, and for many of us, it's a time of lows. Just because you don't agree does not mean you aren't welcome. ALL OF US just need to be a little more respectful of one another's opinions in general.

Like I said, we all need to agree to disagree. If we all stopped and took five minutes to think about how the other person was feeling (like I just did with you), I think we'd have a much healthier community.

https://www.facebook.com/XJAPANLIVE/ has the whole concert.

Thanks, Teemah! Wow, hearing Toshi perform "Alive" has a lot of significance for me. It's been one of my favorites forever, and I don't even know when they last time they played it live. 89? 90? I've only seen recordings from the pre-Blue Blood era. This was really wonderful.

Yoshiki / Re: Why all the negativity?
« on: October 20, 2017, 08:06:57 PM »
Honestly, I don't even care anymore. We aren't even waiting for a masterpiece. The sad truth is that most songs that have been teased, played, or god forbid, released since the reunion just haven't been that good. The only one that really sticks out to me as a truly great X Japan song is Jade and MAYBE Without You and IV. Lets look at all of the songs we have heard,

Without You- Nice simple little song. Now, the piano and vocal only ballads are so boring and played out, but this is a nice one and the vocal lines are good. Too bad it was never really released properly and when it did, it was on a crappy film soundtrack as a half assed (except for Toshi's vocals) piano and vocal version. After 10 years you'd think they could incorporate the whole band and throw in a melodic guitar solo.

IV- Good, anthemic melodies and was a nice tribute to hide. Still, it felt a little empty without a bigger instrumental part.

Jade- Great song. Its catchy, has some cool guitar and orchestra work. Actually has a solo. Sounds like it could have been on Dahlia.

Born to be Free- This song I liked years ago because I was starved for new material. I still don't hate it and think the studio version sounds well made. The guitar riff is very amateurish, though, and I'd have liked it to be a little bit more full. Its a cheesy song, but whatever.

Scarlet Love Song- Completely forgettable throw away song that sounds like any other simplified X ballad, but more lame.

Beneath the Skin- Song showed promise. Not anything mind blowing, but something cool at least. There seems to be a solo (huzzah) and I like the bass in the verses.

Hero- Basically a pop song with what Yoshiki thinks sounds "commercial"

Angel- Another relatively forgettable ballad

Kiss the Sky- Another ballad but apparently it has guitars at least

La Venus- ANOTHER fucking vocal/piano ballad. I actually like the melodies in this even though its mind blowing almost all of these songs have the same format

Still, what the fuck is this? All of these songs are fucking predictable and generic ballads where you have basically only vocals and piano. The other sock songs are mainly generic commercialized rock where you have dead simple guitar work. A good song doesn't NEED a guitar solo, far from it, but one of the big reasons I became a fan was because of their guitar work. There isn't a SINGLE memorable guitar part in any of these songs save for maybe Jade. These songs aren't offensive or necessarily bad. They just are very subpar and don't make the mark.

So yeah, who cares anymore? Is this album worth all this drama and the 10 year wait? For me? No.

I'd like to see them again and take my friend who didn't get the chance to see them the first time they toured the states. That'd be cool and pretty exciting for me but other than that, it is whatever.

The fact of the matter is, Yoshiki grossly dropped the ball on the reunion. From countless canceled dates, late starts, delays in shows and music release, false promises and lies, and squandered potential, it is VERY easy to see why fans are bored, negative, or worse- indifferent now. Fans like Teemeah are new, and that is great! There is some awesome rock music to be found with X Japan and their history and personalities are very interesting. However, the "YOU AREN'T A TRUE FAN IF YOU DON'T AGREE OR LIKE EVERYTHING THEY DO" mentality is both asinine and counterintuitive. I'm a diehard GNR fan, as well, and I see this ALL THE TIME when it comes to Axl Rose as well. Teemeah said it above, the band doesn't "owe" us anything. Well, I both disagree and agree. If a band offers a product, such as a concert you buy a ticket to, they owe you a show with a respectable performance. They have delayed MANY shows throughout the past 10 years. I understand that health issues happen, and unforeseen events occur, but when it happens the amount of times it has, it isn't all just bad luck. That means there is poor planning, communication, and a failure to adapt to changing events.

Years ago, they announced this big concert in the UK and said the album would be released that day. They announced it almost a year in advance. Well, a few weeks before the show they canceled it blaming it on Pata. Pata's health comes first, of course, but to me it seemed he was used a scapegoat. He is a crucial member, but the band apparently knew about his health weeks before the cancelation announcement, and knew many fans had flights and hotels booked. They waited so late to announce it, it is likely many fans could not cancel their accommodations. Since this was such a big event, the band should have adapted and still provided fans with the album release and some sort of performance with the rest of the band. Here we are YEARS later with no released music, even with the concert performed another year after. This alone tells me that the cancellation was more because they were not prepared.

The above example is just one of MANY... an original Paris show, dates in Asia, an initial NY show in 2008, etc. That goes beyond bad luck. When you have to keep making excuses, it says the problem is with you. Even Yoshiki's recent surgery was something he knew he had to get for years. Why not get it in the years where they weren't doing anything instead of right when he wanted to do an alleged album release and "world" tour? Sure, he is entitled to get it when he wants, but that sure was convenient. Now he has a great excuse not to tour or release an album. I give credit that they didn't cancel those Japanese shows. I am sure he would have liked to, but given the band's track record with cancelations they couldn't. Instead, those shows were some of the coolest in 10 years. Deep cuts were played, the setlist changed, and Yoshiki sounded pretty great on the piano. Yeah, it was more of a Yoshiki+Toshi show with support from other X members, but that is sort of how the band (sadly) functions now anyways. That is the one example I can think of where he properly adapted to a situation. Still, there is no album and tour. What is he doing? He isn't staying at home healing, he is flying around the world promoting a two year old movie he already promoted. He is working on marketing and promoting his name. What does that tell you?

Maybe he knows the material isn't up to par, maybe he lost interest, maybe he really is the perfectionist he leads fans to believe and wants to get it right (personally, I don't buy this), but who cares at this point? He is out of touch with the diehard fans, and has thus alienated a great deal of us with his poor communication and false promises. He isn't working hard in the studio 24/7 on X Japan like he says on social media, he is starting many different projects. Mostly marketing ones such as products and fashion shows, and ignoring his creative side. More power to him, but its an issue because he lies and says he is still passionate and hard at work with musical projects like X Japan and Violet UK (whatever the fuck that is). He doesn't commit to single projects or prioritize the things he said he would, thus, nothing is accomplished and you get several half assed projects like what X Japan is now.

Personally, I don't think about the album anymore or even X Japan much aside from the few times a month I log on here. He does't really owe us in terms of new music, he can do what he likes. At the same time, we don't owe him anything either. If he keeps making false promises, why shouldn't we discuss it on the band's main message board (which is now practically inactive)? I understand it is hard for new fans like you, OP,  and Teemeah but we can only talk about the music and all that for so long. Many of us have been here for years. There were positive conversations, there was excitement. But for the majority of us, there isn't much to be excited for and "cheer on". What are we cheering on right now? A non existent album that will never see release? A second or third press tour around Europe for a documentary that is already released and mainly forgotten by the mainstream? Come on...

I am glad they reunited for personal reasons. I, and many other fans, got to see them live and we otherwise wouldn't have. For that reason alone, I view the reunion as something good. A lot of the shows have been pretty damn good and Jade is a pretty cool tune. Other than that, it has been a creative and logistical disaster full of periods (sometimes years) of complete inactivity and many plans that didn't materialize. I am not "spitting on" Yoshiki. I don't know him. He can be the greatest guy for all I know. He seems like a pretty nice person. But as a fan, I can criticize his actions and words to said fans, can I not? It has nothing to do with his personality. He seems genuine and grateful, that is for sure. I'm glad he does, the dude is a multi millionaire, so humility is a welcome and rare thing among celebrities.

There are Facebook pages about X Japan that have all the positivity you seek. They have the blind following and like everything Yoshiki does. You aren't going to necessarily find that here. X Freaks is sadly more of a graveyard because of the years of false starts and inactivity. Fans like you and Teemeah are welcome. Its good to have positivity injected, but you asked why there's negativity from the majority of us old posters?

There you go

I love you. 100% this.

General chat / Re: Anime Expo Premiere of "We Are X" + Yoshiki Q&A
« on: July 08, 2017, 11:40:02 PM »
You are ridiculous guys, seriously, get some consultation :) why are you even here? outlet to let out anger? go to a gym and hit the boxing bag or something.... Jeez.

This is a discussion board. Not a one-sided verbal circle jerk. Fans of X Japan and Yoshiki are allowed to express their frustration in an on-topic forum. If you're having trouble with people discussing opinions that differ from your own, you may want to avoid the internet in its entirety. This is not an echo chamber safe space. I understand you're new to the forum, and you're excited to discover this band. And we're happy to have you and your enthusiasm, because X is a wonderful band, and Yoshiki is a brilliant musician. Regardless, he has dropped the ball a LOT, and no one here is negative about it because they think Yoshiki or X should be doing anything outside the realm of reasonable expectations. The issue isn't that Yoshiki canceled. It's the disregard in the way he did it. It's the disregard in the way he CONSISTENTLY treats X fans, because he can. I do believe he loves his fans, but the man falls short of appreciating them as people pretty often. Again, NO ONE WANTS YOSHIKI TO DO ANYTHING THAT IS DAMAGING TO HIS HEALTH OR RECOVERY. NO ONE IS MAD AT HIM FOR BEING IN THE POSITION HE IS IN. But every person is responsible for how they handle the negative situations they are in.

The real problem many of us have stems to the notion that this isn't the first, fifth, or tenth time something like this has happened. People have booked trips, spent hundreds, if not thousands, of dollars to see X. The lack of communication and empty promises are viewed as disrespectful not because they happen, but because of how frequently they happen, AND HOW EASILY THEY CAN BE AVOIDED. Yoshiki should not be booking appearances or performances if he is not well. Plain and simple. Give people the furthest possible notice to adjust plans and save their wasted money.

Add the canceled world tours and single performances, weirdly obscure projects Yoshiki dedicates time to instead of focusing on X, and the disrespect fans feel, to the decade-long development of an album that, by the nature of its own description, should have been out years ago, you may understand why fans are so frustrated. Rightfully so. Preaching here that people shouldn't be bothered by this stuff without actually understanding the very long uphill battle it's been to be an X fan is not going to change any hearts or minds to the point you're trying to make. If you want people to see where you're coming from, try seeing where they're coming from too, before being so judgmental.

Yoshiki / Re: Impending postponement/delay
« on: June 10, 2017, 05:38:37 PM »
I'm one of the first people to call X-Japan (specifically Yoshiki) on their bullshit, but I have to say, even I'm impressed by this move. Considering the nature of the surgery he just had, I'm amazed Yoshiki feels well enough to keep the show on. I think an acoustic set is super cool, and hell, even if they wanted to make that their thing for an entire world tour (assuming he's well enough to travel), that'd be pretty neat. I genuinely hope this isn't at the expense of his health, though. As vocal as I've been about keeping promises and the importance of integrity with your fans, I don't want anything to conflict with the man's well-being. None of us do.

This is pretty rad, though. Will definitely make for a great show!

Yoshiki / Re: Impending postponement/delay
« on: May 12, 2017, 08:09:05 AM »
This may sound a bit harsh but my only wish now is for Yoshiki to just announce that the album is never going to drop and just end the band. Do one last tour or show at the Tokyo Dome or something, go out with one last bang and just put the band to rest instead of dragging this half-dead corpse around. X Japan is nothing more than a tribute/nostalgia act at this point clinging on the successes they made more than 20 years ago, instead of trying to build a brand new platform for themselves and aim for the future. I understand the band probably had huge plans around the time of their reformation but it's been clear for the past few years that Yoshiki's hubris has already steered the band into a trainwreck that has barely any hope of making it out. There's only so many times that you can say "the album is 99% done".

In regards to his upcoming surgery, I wish him the best and a speedy recovery.

I don't think it's harsh. I think it's realistic. We boo because we want to cheer, and Yoshiki has proven time, time, and time again that the album is not a priority. Every time I read a quote about it now, all I do is roll my eyes. Yoshiki is a brilliant musician, and in his younger days he was a powerful force to be reckoned with when it came to achieving goals. I think he lost that fire, and that's totally fine. He's enjoyed an insane career and he's getting older. I totally respect the notion that this dude's health is deteriorating and it's time for him to rest.

BUT STOP LYING TO US. It's been YEARS. And every time he says "we're 99% done," it makes me automatically assume "whelp, maybe next year." Because every time we hear something that isn't a concrete date for something, it means it isn't happening. Dude, just be straight with us. We love you and your work. Just stop lying to drive up hype for no reason. It makes you look bad and us feel like idiots for getting excited over nothing.

Albums/Singles / Re: X JAPAN New Album(When??)
« on: November 06, 2016, 09:17:48 PM »
@StarWarsArtist If you consider organising festivals, promoting the documentary movie all over the world and preparing for his classical tour 'being focused on the album' ...then yeah, he is focused on it. :P I really hope he does, but there's been times that he actually seemed close to a possible release... >_<

I actually do consider what he's doing with promoting "We are X" to be towards the X album. They're shown working on it in the studio. They talk about the album a little bit in the Q&A (not much, but it happens). The documentary is raising awareness of X Japan. I've seen him on my local news, something I NEVER thought I would see. I've seen him on Reddit, another thing I never thought I'd see. He definitely should have had the album out a thousand times over by now. But he's only realizing this now, is the impression I get. It's too late, so at least do the best you can to get it moving now. Again, not saying it's wise or even that it wasn't intentional. However, he does seem to be putting his effort into it now. I've been very vocal on this board for years about how frustrated and over Yoshiki's bullshitting us I am. It's not a lot, but I genuinely feel it's FINALLY a step in the right direction.

Would it have been smart to release the album simultaneously with the doc? Of course. Should we have had this album years ago? Absolutely. But the fact is, right now we've got nothing, and it looks like we'll finally be getting something. Most of us cynics gave up on the album ever being released in the first place. So worst case scenario, we're right and our expectations weren't dashed. But I'm starting to believe it won't be the case anymore.

Unless he announces a new fucking Hello Kitty doll and then I'm going to jump off the nearest building.

He's always just 'aiming for' the dates he announces anyway, at least he was honest this time. ;P

But actually I think that by March is already too late. The album should be out NOW already. If you watch the documentary and get more interested there's nothing you can buy to get into them more. Aside of some iTunes downloads. :/

Don't get me wrong, I'm still extremely critical of the circlejerk that's been going on with Yoshiki and his lack of communication. I absolutely agree things are long, long, long past due. I'm just saying, I am at least getting the impression that Yoshiki seems pretty focused on the album and less so on needlessly pointless projects like Hello Kitty type stuff.

1) Way to necro a 4+ year old thread

2) Makes me cringe reading my comment from 4 years ago and STILL nothing has changed on the album front

3) I missed the AMA unfortunately but that's a complete drag that it's March 3, and even then it's "AIMING"...Yoshiki is really frustrating.

Feudal, you and I seem to always be on the same page with Yoshiki dragging his feet and the overall lack of communication with the fandom. Especially with this damn album. But, I have to say, I've been following things very closely recently. Just got home from the Brooklyn "We are X" screening, where Yoshiki and the director did some Q&A afterwards. I also went to an interview with the two of them about a month ago. He's not talking about the album much but he does seem to be very focused on getting it out finally. I think he's finally realizing that he's wasting momentum that the film is giving him to launch off of and it's time to get it done. Just the overall impression I'm getting from him and the director (can never remember his name) that the album is finally rounding out.

Honestly, I'll take "aiming for" over the complete radio silence we've been getting up until recently. It at least seems like it's finally a priority again over all the lame ass side projects.

For me it doesn't really matter if the album is sung in english, japanese or a mix of both.
It's important that the songs have the right feel to it, so I can't say yet "I'll love the album no matter what", as I haven't listened to it yet. ;)

I also appreciate the intention of them trying to pave the way for other asian artists, but I don't think that's neccesary, as there are already artists/bands from asia that are doing well in other parts of the world.

But long story short, I don't care if it's in english or japanese. XD

You know what I'd settle for? The album actually coming out.

Free "WE ARE X" 12"x18"movie poster @ NuArt Los Angeles at opening weekend Oct. 21-23 (while supplies last)

What happened to the Brooklyn screening? Originally the dates were for this weekend and now the date is missing. I kept checking back for tickets but the link get redirecting to the main site. Now the ticket option isn't even available. Is Brooklyn's screening canceled or was it postponed?

Admin-Edit: Your post was inside the quote tag.. ;)

Thanks for sharing this! So pumped to finally see it. I'll see it when it hits the theater here in New York too, but I had to check it out.

I don't know what that song is at 43:02 but it's awesome! Hope it's on the new album.

Yoshiki / Yoshiki in NYC Tonight + Announcement
« on: September 19, 2016, 08:25:38 PM »
I just got this email:

Quote

Yoshiki is in NEW YORK tonight (9/19) for a special private screening of the ground-breaking documentary film WE ARE X -- plus a press conference where Yoshiki will make an exciting announcement!

Don't miss your chance to greet #YOSHIKI in person and show your love for #XJAPAN!

6:00pm
Crosby Street Hotel
79 Crosby St, New York, NY 10012

I mean. It's 2.5 hours notice. I'm not gonna haul ass just to go. But at least it sounds like something might finally get announced. Then again, it's Yoshiki, so it'll probably be something like new Yoshiki themed bar soap or Monopoly X-Japan Edition or some nonsense.

The problem isn't that anyone is upset with Yoshiki/X for delaying due to Pata's health. The problem is it's more of the same. Sure, the band deserves a break now and again (everyone does), and health issues have to come first, but they've been dragging their feet on this album for years, promising something that's never coming. On top of it, the album's description has changed so many times that it is, it seems, mostly material that's been complete for years. This album has been delayed so many times that now there's actually a serious legitimate reason to delay it. It had to happen eventually. Look at the amount of content they've released since reuniting. It's a joke.

I understand Yoshiki is a perfectionist. I'm an illustrator (which you can probably guess from my username), and I'm not trying to sound like I'm claiming any measure of higher success or discipline than Yoshiki has, but I do firmly believe in the mantra that you have to eventually let go of your art, because if you keep waiting for it to be perfect, it'll never get there. Give it your best, put everything you have into it, put it out into the universe, and then move on to the next thing. Being a perfectionist has pros and cons. When being a perfectionist holds you back from working because you can't get it exactly the way you want it or can't make up your mind on how it should be, then it's a con. It's getting in your own way. And let's not kid ourselves. If Yoshiki spent less time gallivanting, and working on projects like a comic book about himself, and focused on this music, it would have been out years ago. I don't have a problem that he wants to do that stuff. It's his life, and it's been a hard one. But don't dick us around.

The way it looks to me (and I understand my opinion isn't gospel), is that Yoshiki would rather ride the wave of his past rockstardom instead of actually being a rockstar and, you know, making more music. And that's fine. He's earned his status. He put in his blood, sweat, and tears into everything. But it's really simple: If you promise something, deliver. Do right by your fans. Yoshiki is a walking empty promise these days, and that's why news like this does nothing more than make me roll my eyes and forget about X Japan for a few months.

But that's just my two cents.

I'm willing to put money down that this album will not come out on March 11th, 2016, if at all.
