Title: Toshi hilarious mispronounced lines
Post by: Teemeah on May 23, 2017, 10:04:02 AM
Do you have a favourite mispronunciation by Toshi? :D I keep giggling sometimes. My favourite is from the X Singles remastered version, the live recording of Endless Rain, where he sings: "I'm a rose blooming in the [dᵻzɜːrt]".

I can't help but see images of roses sticking out of apple pies any time I listen to that. Even though I love Endless Rain to bits and pieces.

Roses blooming in the dessert. -- Thank you Toshi :D I doubt Yoshiki meant that, though :P

In the same recording he sings "all of the HEAT, all of the sadness", too :D

Around 2007-ish when he started his T-Earth project, he had a song called Earth in the Dark. He pronounced it Ass in the Dark. It was hillarious.

I came across this video. You can understand how Japanese pronounce "th" sound. Apart from that, it's really hilarious.

(I have no intention to laugh at Japanese's English pronunciation. I know that Korean's are no better than theirs)

I've seen this before :D It's really funny :D :D I know that both Japanese and Koreans struggle with English pronuciation because of a lack of sounds like [v], or in Korean because of the rule that if a consonant is followed by a vowel, that consonant is always voiced. It's also difficult to pronounce consonant clusters, because usually a vowel would be entered to ease pronunciation, like "sport" would sound like "supotu". Actually, Turkish works the same way. Nevertheless, it's just a matter of effort, I have met Koreans who speak English really well, without major mistakes. Toshi's English also improved a LOT.

We really struggle.

in Korean because of the rule that if a consonant is followed by a vowel, that consonant is always voiced. It's also difficult to pronounce consonant clusters, because usually a vowel would be entered to ease pronunciation, like "sport" would sound like "supotu".

But this is the rule of Japanese, not Korean.

For example, Japanese pronounce "king" "kingu". That's why Toshl currently call himself "Sweets Kingu".  Koreans can pronounce vowel without consonant.

But Japanese can pronounce Z sound very well while Koreans can hardly pronounce it.

I think that lack of accents and intonation in Korean make communication difficult when we speak in English. Our language is very flat compared to European languages. Chinese have some advantage because their language is tonic.

I think this is more due to the drive than the japanese accent.
